I really like this spot... it's a hole in the wall gem on the UES for fast Vietnamese/Thai food. They have great lunch specials, $9 banh mis and $10 Thai rice/noodle dishes, some $12 drink/soup/appetizer and entree combos. I have tried their Beef Pho, which had really tender meat, warm broth that wasn't too salty, classic noodles. Their spring rolls are so good, crispy on the outside and the filling is hot and soft and veggies are crunchy. The Drunken Noodles were good but a bit salty and overpowering in flavor. Came here for a quick pitstop, not expecting much of the food. It is after all the upper east side. I also have concerns about a place that serves supposed to Vietnamese and thai in the same place. My friend and I got the banh mi and I was pleasantly surprised given that I had low expectations. The bread was pretty fluffy, the chicken was very tender and juicy. I don't think that it was super fragrant as far as these sandwiches typically go at more authentic places, but it was a good sandwich in general. Solid find on the upper Eastside for both time Vietnamese food. The exterior is rundown and the inside may feel like a "hole in the wall" but their food is absolutely delicious and well spiced. Their hours are awesome including closing at 11:30 PM on Sunday evenings. 2.5 stars for this unauthentic Vietnamese takeout. M & I have only gotten delivery from here. Over, the last 3 years, we've give this place more than a dozen tries & sadly every item we've tried (eg. Banh Mi, pho, etc) have all fallen short of the standards for acceptable Vietnamese fare. Recently, we thought we'd give it another try after a few months of not ordering from here & finally decided we can no longer tolerate the substandard food. Fried Pot Stickers (pork) were inedible w/ undercooked mushy red & fatty white bits of cartilage & knuckles. Not totally being able to identify what kind of meat & which part of the animal it was from that I was eating + the mushy & undercooked redness w/ balls of white really grossed me out. And after taking 1 bite, I spit it out & had to throw the rest of the dumplings in the trash! Vietnamese Spring Rolls: The pork filling -while cooked well- had a bit of a funky taste to them. The oil that they were fried in had seeped into the meat & tasted old. The outer wrappers were all soggy, stale & chewy. They all tasted like they had been sitting the whole day under the heat lamp or nuked one too many times. Not too fresh. Lunch Chicken Thigh on Rice: I thought I was getting a whole piece of chicken thigh on the bone because that's what the item title / description on the menu stated. I didn't really care for the bait & switch to meat chunks, which surprisingly were somewhat tasty overall. But this dish was nothing like what was described on the menu nor did it resemble its pictures on Yelp. Chicken Satay was okay but under-seasoned & too thickly cut. Lunch Pork Chop over Rice is good but again just very average-tasting & too thickly cut. They could gain to get a nice char on a more thinly cut chop. In all, every dish was a flop.
