If I could give negative stars, I would! Ordered the lunch special shrimp with broccoli, plain fried rice, and will never order there again. The shrimp wasn't fresh, and the broccoli was cooked just past raw. Anybody who eats raw vegetables knows that it keeps you full for hours. I ate this lunch at 1PM, stomach still felt full at 9PM, and I had used the bathroom at least three times, trying to get that food out of my stomach. Combo platters. Sandwiches and salads too. I ended up with a "Health Plate" of BBQ Chicken that came with steamed broccoli, snow peas, string beans, a scoop of macaroni salad, and three scoops of rice. You get a ton of food here for $6.99! The longer: I used to be a regular at fresh wok 6-7 years ago, going at least 4-8x a month, but quality noticeably changed around 3-4 years ago and has never been right since. Orders are often wrong, drenched in sauce when asked for light or the wrong kind of rice or missing egg rolls or soup etc. this is frustrating but when the foods cheap, you hope this is the worst of the problem. A couple years ago, I started feeling super queasy whenever I ordered from here, more than usual and almost always from the sesame chicken. I finally got food poisoning and said enough was enough. Fast forward 2 years and I thought I'd give them another shot. Don't ask me why, but UES chinese takeout is awful, and a far cry from other great dives around the city. But here I go, ordering my guilty pleasure of Sesame chicken with friend rice again. I kid you not, I experienced one of the worst bouts of food poisonings imaginable. Food goes in, your soul comes out. I don't understand how this place stays open. This is my new fav spot for junky Americanized Chinese food. Obviously it's not gourmet stuff, but if you want some General Tso in sweet red sauce with fried rice or wontons filled with cream cheese, this spot hits the spot. The Hawaiian-style "lighter" options are also decent (BBQ shrimp or chicken). I'm going to guess that there's some MSG in the Chinese food since I knock out after eating, but you don't eat junky Chinese takeout for your health. Lunch specials and small Hawaiian plates are around $6 which is cheap compared to the Chinese places in the E70-80's. Portion sizes are also generous for the price. I frequent this place pretty often, so when I was greeted with a poor attitude I was pretty surprised. The same girl that helped me find my nose ring one night is overpricing me thinking I wouldn't look at the menu.. How can a boneless rib combo with a soda cost 9.50? I've never heard of that.. Whenever I feel like I've had too much to drink, Fresh Wok is always there to make it all better with its mystery meats and noodles. Granted, the boneless spare ribs, crab rangoons, crispy fried chicken and rice might not be the healthiest options at midnight, but it makes everything better instantly, until the next morning.... Their lunch specials are the best bang for your buck in the area. For $5.65 you get a mound of food, which can easily be split up into three portions, and an egg roll, soup, OR soda. You can't beat that. I moved to the neighborhood last year and have been a regular ever since. My go to dish at the moment are the boneless spare ribs, sweet and tangy. The chow fun is great, too. It's like you're eating layered dumplings. Heroe to the fried chicken, after you devour all the meat, gotta suck and gnaw on the bone to get all the flavor. Now to the crab rangoons, this little 'empanadas' are stuffed with cream cheese and some crab product shipped from science knows where, but they're so yummy. They come with a sweet and sour sauce that I drizzle on everything. I usually order for pick up since it's so close to my place, but have ordered delivery on a couple of occasions, and boy they are fast and efficient.
