Salmon teriyaki bento box; eel cucumber roll
    Gwendolyn C.

[Takeout Review] Food: 4/5 | Service: N/A | Experience: N/A Great takeout/delivery spot for affordable sushi rolls and bento boxes! I have ordered from here a few times and enjoy their consistency as well as the great price. I would not expect super high quality compared to some of the other takeout sushi spots, but for the value this place is great. What I ordered: * eel cucumber roll * salmon bento box with california roll Things to know: * great for take out; have not eaten at the restaurant before * fairly mediocre, but great value

I really enjoyed the lunch bento boxes here! The teriyaki chicken was not bad, though I would have preferred the chicken to be in slices instead of chunks. The chicken katsu was really good! It's tender and fried well, and served on top of a bed of rice. The side salad was not bad, with a giant slice of fresh tomato on top. I loved the california rolls here, as well as the miso soup!

It was alright. I usually order from Isohama, so I have a high standard. I ordered the Tokyo Chicken bento set. Fire Island roll and the Dragon Egg. The Dragon Egg is lobster meat with shrimp mixed in, all wrapped in avocado. It's decadent, and is much better mixed with rice. By itself it's kind of a disaster. It didn't taste like much either, I would skip it. The Tokyo Fried Chicken set was soggy. And smaller than the usual bento sets from sushi places. The chicken was seasoned well. Shumai is delightful but very hard to screw up hahha. Bento didn't come with miso. The Fire Island roll was very hard to eat -- overwhelming smoky taste that ruined the flavour of the roll. Not my cup of tea. Service was quick and friendly, I will try again maybe it's just what I ordered. But meh overall

Food and delivery service were outstanding. The delivery (ordered Thru seamless) arrived in much less time than estimated, which was a pleasant surprise, and the delivery person was upbeat and positive, giving a big thank you as he dropped off my food. Food: Everything was delicious. - Dinosaur egg. A perfect little treasure. Every once in a while you get a special food that I think of as a little food treasure, looking like a beautifully packaged gift, with every bite being a delicious, flavor bursting treat. This was one of those treasures I will absolutely order again. Spicy shrimp wrapped with avocado and topped with pretty red roe. - Sushi deluxe platter. This came with a well presented, assorted mix of salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp and eel sushi, plus a roll. All of the sushi was excellent. - Lobster roll. Very good. - Gyoza (dumplings). My son's favorite, and he liked them. Definitely recommend for fantastic sushi and prompt, friendly delivery service.

Hanabi is my go to for take out and delivery sushi in the upper east side! My favorite items include the gyoza, cucumber roll and some of the many different combos they have. I really enjoy the sushi platter. Their delivery always comes quickly and very neatly packed.

I stopped by because I was craving sushi and did not want bar food my friends were eating during football Sunday next door. Hanabi looked clean, so I walked in and ordered two salmon avocado rolls. The lady behind the counter processed my order and I took a seat. The sushi chef went right to work and made my rolls super quick. I was eating in less than 10 minutes. The salmon avocado rolls were fresh and the fish to rice ratio was proportional. I was surprised by how fresh the fish was! Compared to other quick sushi spots in the city, this place definitely is ranked up there. Everyone was friendly and service was great!

Such a great lowkey normal sushi spot in NYC. All of the rolls were fresh and priced reasonably. I ordered the salmon avocado, white tuna avocado, spicy crunchy crab, and eel avocado rolls with a side of spicy mayo. I also got seaweed salad but it was kind of cold and tasted kind of frozen even. However the rolls were spot on.

This is a go to place for unpretentious, no frills sushi. The thing with sushi in NYC is that the cheaper ones tend to use old/low quality fish and the "high end" ones tend to be overpriced and not really appropriate if you're just having those "sushi craving" moments. For $18.50 you can get a deluxe sushi platter and for $12.95 you can get a chicken teriyaki Bento, cheaper than most of the sushi places in UES while the fish is still relatively fresh. They pack their orders nicely for transportation/delivery.

I so love eating a tasty box! I mean, how can a man resist when a tasty box is thrown his way for only $9? Granted, this ain't no fancy box at all. Kind of a bare bones Japanese joint. Very fast foodie looking, with only a few tables and chairs, and no real decor to speak of. When I was here chowing down on my box today they had country music playing. No, really. That being said, it seems everything is cheap here. Food came out fast. It was edible. Good portion that was just right for lunch. Came with soup or soda. As I wrapped my lips around this box I also realized it was on a paper plate and not in the traditional bento box. No biggie but I do prefer a real box. Overall, it's ok here if you're not expecting anything amazing. Sometimes a man has a hard time passing up a cheap box!

I ordered delivery through Seamless and my food came not too quick to where you're worried it wasn't fresh but it came at just the right amount of time. Very fairly priced. The salmon bento lunch special was around $12 not bad at all. It was so delicious I ate it so fast and forgot to take a first pic hahah. Can't wait to try their sushi! This salmon was bomb. California roll tasted very fresh. I wi be ordering again soon!

The slices aren't thin, delicate, and melt-in-your-mouth as one usually gets in a sit down; they are extra thick, and I had to really bite down on some of the pieces. The rice was nicely seasoned and was cooked well + portions are also big to match those thiccccc salmon slices. To be honest, I was getting a little nauseated after 5 pieces, haha~ They were definitely delicious but I'd probably just eat 3 or 4 pieces and share with a friend! It was easy to text the number on the website and coordinate a pickup time, and the staff was friendly when I arrived. The restaurant is a little hard to find as the windows are blinded and the sign is a piece of paper on the door.

We walked into a stylish, energetic space with a menu designed around sharing, making it a good option for a casual dinner or group meal. The interior has a contemporary, lively feel with an open kitchen that adds energy to the room, and the seating is arranged to accommodate both small groups and larger parties comfortably. Instead of sticking strictly to traditional Japanese dishes, the menu mixes familiar flavors with more modern presentations, creating a dining experience that feels both approachable and exploratory. The standout item is the katsu, which is where the restaurant really shines. We ordered the pork loin and tenderloin versions and found the breading crisp while the meat stayed tender and juicy, the crust holding up well without becoming greasy. The mazemen is another highlight, with chewy noodles and a rich sauce that brought a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy, the sauce coating each strand evenly and the toppings adding layers of texture and depth. Beyond those, dishes like the butter scallops, corn ribs, and seafood options added variety and made it worth ordering multiple plates to share. The scallops were well seared with a buttery finish, and the corn ribs offered a smoky, slightly charred flavor that paired well with the richer dishes. The desserts are also a memorable part of the meal. The corn ice cream is one of the more unique items, with a sweet and savory flavor that sounds unusual but works surprisingly well, the sweetness of the corn balanced by a subtle savory note that kept it from feeling cloying. It fits the restaurant's overall approach of taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a more unexpected way, and the creativity of the dessert menu feels consistent with the rest of the meal. Service and atmosphere add to the experience, with attentive staff and a lively dining room that feels suited for groups. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes come together. Reservations can be difficult to get, especially during busy times, and the small plate format means the best experience comes from ordering several dishes rather than focusing on one entree. The variety across the menu encourages sharing, and the pacing of the meal works well for a longer, more social dinner. konban delivers a well-executed modern Japanese dining experience. While some of the more hyped dishes may not completely live up to expectations, the katsu, noodles, and seafood dishes make it a worthwhile visit. The combination of creativity, quality ingredients, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for exploring different flavors and dishes together rather than just ordering one signature item, offering a meal that feels both engaging and satisfying.

The interior is minimalistic with a japanese feel through the zen garden. For drinks my friend and I had the sayonara which I enjoyed, but she thought was too strong. The ube tiramisu was free since we wrote a google review for the restaurant. Everything was delicious and the zucchini was surprisingly good as well. The pork was so tender. the ebi tempura were huge, and the mazemen was thankfully not spicy. However, the scallops could've been more tender and we we were all unimpressed with the ube tiramisu. Overall, I would come back and would definitely recommend konban! Get the corn ribs, zucchini, pork katsu, and corn ice cream! My friend did notice that some menu items changed from her previous visit (instead of the zucchini they had the eggplant in the past)

I've taken a lot of friends here over the course of 10 years, and without fail, every one of them has walked out mindblown--and why wouldn't they?! The wait times have gotten better over the years (probably because people are waiting for the restaurant next door), but the food and drinks here are still top-notch. Staff is always great, and they all work so efficiently. I am generally a fan of izakayas, but there are very few that offer plates that are designed to be shareable, and this is one of the reasons the food here is so enjoyable in a small group setting. I am obviously biased and think they can do no wrong, but some of my staples that have stood the test of time: Kimchi cream udon, avocado tofu salad, salmon sashimi tacos, and the kani cream croquettes.
