We got the teriyaki chicken with tempura and Japanese fried chicken with gyoza. I very much enjoyed the side salad with the refreshing ginger sesame dressing. The tempura stood out the most of the meal - very lightly fried and refreshing. Came with a piece of broccoli, sweet potato, fried onion and two pieces of tempura shrimp. Would definitely go back for the tempura. The gyoza and the chicken were OK. Both chicken dishes could have used more sauce. Lots of rice so the meal was pretty filling. We ordered delivery from here and I'm a fan! Very reasonably priced fare, and good quality too. My bf got the Chirashi Sushi (bed of sushi rice topped with assorted fresh sashimi) for a mere $14.50 (i've seen other places have it for $20+! meep!) and also the Tokyo fried chicken. He said the sashimi was fresh and happily munched away. I ordered one of their bento boxes- the Tokyo Fried Chicken and pork gyoza. Very large portion, with the chicken sitting atop the rice (maybe like 6 large pieces? NICE) and 5 gyoza, with a nice salad on the side. For $10, its a good deal. Excited to order more from them! Last night I went out to get myself a hot Japanese meal. The menu had a lot of options to cater anyone's taste,especially in the sushi section, plenty of variety and the platters look amazing! I had gotten an order of basic ramen and some amazing mochi, which I definitely recommend, the lady at the front desk packed it perfectly and it kept warm an hour later when I got home! Ordered lunch from them. I had the dinosaur egg, Ocean roll, and Wild wild east roll. They were all amazing. I really liked the mango inside of the Wild wild east rolls. It adds in a fruity, sweet and sour flavor to the roll. It complements tempura shrimp really well. Sweets with fried food is my favorite. Also, the mayo and eel sauce goes really well together. I really like seafood so the Ocean roll was prefect for me. Their bento box also looks really delicious, but I was too full to order one. There seem to be a lot of options and varieties in the bento boxes. I will definitely try it next time. Everything was prepared pretty quickly and the staff was friendly. The soup was delicious, the salad was good with the ginger dressing, the California roll was o.k. kani was sliced in half, the roll looked skimpy. The main disappointment was the chicken teriyaki. I ordered a Shrimp Pad Thai today for delivery, and was too disappointed! No taste at all! I called the restaurant and spoke to the receptionist, and while i was complaining about the food she kept interrupting me and said that is how Pad Thai is cooked. I originally was going to order for delivery via seamless, but since they had such great reviews on seamless, my boyfriend and I decided to haul ourselves over and it was such a bad decision. First of all, the girl at the counter told us to take a seat anywhere we'd like and we had to get our own menu. According to NYC law, any place that has a certain amount of seats is required to have a bathroom and it is considered a restaurant. Maybe I assumed wrong? Something possessed me to go in here on desperate hunt for sushi when I had only 45 minutes to spare. Bad choice, Christina. The interior is average but what pulled me in was that I saw that it was moderately crowded during lunch and had lots of pen air flowing through the place. Perfect for a quick solo lunch I thought. I went with two rolls and a miso soup. The soup was pretty good and not too salty but boy was I disappointed when I saw those rolls come out. I had a spicy salmon cucumber and another that was tuna avocado with spicy red pepper. Even though they each came with 8 pieces, they were the smallest pieces you'll ever see with hardly any rice and little to no cucumber.I know that a high fish to rice ratio is suppose to be a good thing but I like my rice too and these rolls had hardly any! Not very appealing to the eye and not very tasty either. Both rolls were pretty bland and just not worth the price. I ended up paying 14$ including tip, very overpriced for the quality. If you know me you know I hate wasting food so I sat there and ate my sushi forcibly and with regrets. While I've had worse sushi, this experience would probably be in there with some of the worst. 2 Stars only for really fast service and quiet location. Evaluating Sushi For Dummies... Basic fact 1: All sushi is similar sushi. I say similar and not "same" b/c only slight variations set good sushi apart from bad sushi. Unless one is ordering a specialty roll, then a California Roll is going to be a California Roll almost wherever one goes. With that said to me price makes all the difference when evaluating sushi. My tidbit for comparing option 1 to option 2 is, pick a roll at option 1, for example sticking with the Cal. Roll, and compare its price to the price of option 2. Boom! There you have it. A Cal. Roll at Hanabi is $3.25 and when you put that up against Cal. Rolls from one of the many other sushi places on the UES $3.25 doesn't look that bad. I had the Maki Combo B, 3 basic rolls for 8.75, and it was good. But the price could be better, and the rolls could be bigger. The formula for what makes a successful sushi restaurant seems so obvious, yet so many sushi joints miss the mark -- Creative rolls and creative pricing. read more

Whenever you have a Japanese place run by Chinese people, the result is usually ugly. This isn't an exception. The place itself is cute and tiny. Food is served at the counter in trays. My girlfriend's teriyaki chicken was alright, but my beef udon was soggy and flavorless. I'm always amazed at how simple dishes like this can go so wrong. One of the managers needs to try Udon West or Onya, and learn how to make udon work. On the plus side, it was cheap, and quick. read more

Hey, I've had some of the best sushi in the world, and some of the worst. When it comes to your neighborhood go to location for delivery and pick up the number one issue for me is consistency and price. They have by far the best prices, and I've eaten there maybe fifty times in my life and have never felt sick. Their bento box deals are pretty ridiculous, I almost question where the food comes from, because for 6.99 you are getting endles food. The sushi is great, always fresh, I tend to only eat post tuesday, and avoid sunday, but I do that will all sushi places. I've ordered from here on several occasions. I get the spicy tuna and/or some kind of specialty roll with spicy tuna. Although it's not authentically Japanese, it still gets by for serving your typical Japanese dishes like chicken/beef teriyaki, sushi rolls, and noodles. I decided to try their ramen. For $8.25, you get a nice big bowl of ramen with miso base soup, char siu (pork), bean sprouts, fish cake, scallion, and an egg. I honestly cannot compare it to Totto Ramen or Ippudo but for a small shop like this, it's not too bad. However, I think they overcooked the ramen a little bit so it's not as chewy as I would normally prefer. The place has a few tables for seating. Just tell them you want your salmon slices on the thicker end, bc they tend to give really paper thin ones... Everything else is mediocre. Ordered a Hanabi Special Ramen through Seamless because the delivery time was quick and the ramen wasn't too pricy. Order did arrive on time, but the soup was just okay. Bland broth, but made a bit better with some spicy sauce that came with the soup; I wanted to add more soy sauce to it. The pork is chewy and like a pork chop, whereas I was expecting something more slow-cooked/falling apart. The soft boiled egg was definitely hard boiled and older, with a black ring around the yolk. Not the tasteless chicken "strands" most sushi places pass off as teriyaki. Only downside is the smallish portions. I've been spoiled by most places that leave me with decent amount of leftovers but not this place. But you really can't find this meal for such a great price ($6.50) outside of teriyaki boy. They gave me a quick, on-time delivery, but that didn't help the fact that the food was very disgusting and bland. I ordered a Salmon Lover Platter, a Pink Lady Roll, Tako Yaki, Yaki Soba, and a thing of white rice. The pink lady roll was stiff and chewy, especially the avocado. All I could taste on the roll included with the Salmon Lover platter was the spice. The rice wasn't soft enough, and had no flavor whatsoever. I was hoping the Yaki Soba would at least be redeeming, but no. Bland like everything else. The only thing that had any taste to it was the Tako Yaki, so I'll give them praise for it.
