There are street parking outside and a couple of garages near by if you are driving. The staff were very attentive in adding water or switching out our plates. Food came out pretty efficiently, no complaints there. Loved the sushi! The fish tasted so fresh it was amazing and the size of the sushi pieces were on the larger side so felt quite satisfying. The soy paper sushi was better than I expected. And you have to try the salmon nigiri, tasted like some omakase places for a lesser price. Kobe Sushi is the UES's best value for sushi. It's fast, delicious, and affordable--AKA the takeout trifecta. Even outside the lunchtime specials and bento boxes, the prices are a steal. At dinner time, classic rolls from a Spicy Tuna to Eel Cucumber will run you all of $6-$7.45. And don't be suspicious of the price; the quality is great. The sushi tastes noticeably fresh and delicious and the same goes for the scrumptious housemade pork wasabi dumplings. You will not be stuck waiting for your meal either. My orders are typically ready within 10 minutes of calling. That is Mamba like speed (sorry, not sorry for the obligatory Kobe Bryant reference). This place is awful. the atmosphere is bland and gives you a feeling of uncleanliness. The rice in the sushi rolls is hard and the sushi rolls are extremely fishy! In spite of the poor food. They are scammers and take full advantage of children. The restaurant is located near several middle schools and high schools. Student can go there during out lunch and get a sushi "deal." They succeeded in ripping my son off by charging him on his credit card the full bill and then taking cash from his friend for his portion. When we kindly approached them to discuss the mishap, they berated us and verbally abused my son. They embarrassed him in front of other patrons and in front of his peer by yelling negative slurs and fat shaming him. This man who works behind the sushi bar is cruel and insensitive and downright mean. Although the food is certainly not a draw, I would hope you wouldn't patronize this establishment, due to their poor treatment of customers and their intent to take advantage of children. read more

When we're ordering, I asked for no pork dumplings for religious reasons. When they served my food, they came with a platter full of dumplings. I find this unacceptable and after some arguing I had it sent back to the kitchen. When it came time to pay, they asked for a tip. I only had 1 dollar, so I tipped 50 cents. Kobe is the sort of place that is local and you want to root for. I went with a friend from the neighborhood. I pointed out that there were better rated sushi places in town but they wanted to stick with what they knew. First off we walked into the cheery confines of Kobe and were greeted liked we were walking into the Cheers bar. The manager and waiter knew our group and said hi and had a cheery bow. We chose to sit at the sushi bar at my behest. It was a brightly lit spot, with a colorful interior. The owner spoke with us a bit. Mostly noting how slow it had been and business was bad. The sashimi and sushi came out and was extravagant. 2 of the 3 rolls we got were house rolls that were on the special board. Over all not too great. They were very large, making it tough to manage in a bite. They also were loose enough that while attacking the rolls we had trouble getting at them without falling apart. Around noon today I visited Kobe for the first time. I decided to splurge and try several different appetizers. The food overall was good. I ordered a hot sake (good but not great); nori soup (strange broth with mushrooms - didn't really like it); white tuna tataki (thin sliced tuna in vinegar served with seaweed & carrots) - tasty; softshell crab (large serving & tasty); and sashimi appetizer (about 10 thin sliced standard pieces which seemed to be fresh). This restaurant is a small hole in the wall which looks as though it has been there for a long time. There are about 10 tables and 4 seats at the sushi bar which didn't look too comfortable. There is basically no atmosphere, but a pleasant place for a quick lunch. There was only the sushi chef and a waitress working, which was adequate for the size of the place. The waitress was friendly and very efficient. The service was very fast - in fact too fast. Everything arrived at the same time. I would have liked a little more spacing. When a dish is supposed to be hot, at this restaurant it is boiling hot. Can't complain about cold food here. I would consider returning to try some of their rolls. The list sounds interesting. I don't, however, get to the UES too often, and there are other sushi restaurants in the area I want to try; but I don't regret checking it out. I was pretty stuffed by the time I ate all that food because the servings were definitely generous and the prices for NYC were reasonable. read more

The food and atmosphere was great, however the service was horrendous and we waited 3 hours to get our food. We had a 6pm reservation with 4 people and didn't get the majority of the meal until 10pm. They also failed to tell us that a bunch of the rolls we ordered had run out until the end of the meal. To make up for it, they only gave us a 10% discount. I will definitely not be coming back unless I'm looking to waste my time. they prioritize the take out which is why everything else takes so long. Left a horrible taste in my mouth. read more

I've ad this at many different Japanese places and I can tell you sometimes the California roll isn't fresh, I can tel right away. At this place everything is actually fresh. This is definitely the best sushi I have had in the neighborhood, and personally so far since moving here. In fact, it was the first meal me and the wife had when we moved in! Anyway, you can always count on Kobe to be fresh, tasty, and a good value (think the $10-15 range for a special roll). The service is always attentive and the ambiance actually allows for a conversation at a normal speaking volume - a surprisingly rare feature these days. I have had several of their special rolls, but the one I always order when coming here is the house Kobe roll. No matter what other rolls you order, you can count that the plate they bring you will not be some standard, 8-piece cut of a handroll. The chefs here really take pride in their work and they will dress that plate up to the nines. We've had sculptures of vegetables and swirls of sauces all coming together to create a fantastic plating I almost (*almost*) feel bad about destroying with my rabid chopsticks. You can really taste the freshness in their fish, which is obviously a great feature when most of what you'll be eating is raw. Anyway, if you're in the neighborhood, definitely check out Kobe. The wait staff was attentive - too attentive I felt rushed to order. I asked for raw fish with no fried stuff, so they recommend Green Fuji, Heart & mixed fish roll. I would've given 4 stars due to roll not tasting too bad & I like the relaxed vibe. I deduct one star from the fact that they ask me "soup or salad" without informing me that they'd charge $2.50 in addition to what I'd ordered. I detest sneaky way of taking advantage of customer and they did just that. Another star off was due to the mushy soft texture of the raw fish, which I expected to be firm with natural taste & flavor. It wasn't stale but the softness was kinda gross. Seaweed salad is standard. Broiled miso eggplant is good, but seems pretty oily so might be high calorie. The green salad is pretty large for being $4.50, and it has a few pieces of steamed broccoli in it, which is a nice bonus. Obviously the ginger dressing that comes with the salad is amazing.
