Sushi Goda is truly a hidden gem and, without a doubt, my favorite sushi restaurant. The Wagyu Roll is exceptional, and the Yuzu Mule is absolutely delicious. I crave this place all the time--you honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. If you can, stop by during happy hour and grab a seat at the bar. The happy hour menu is fantastic and makes an already incredible dining experience even better. Highly recommend! read more

We were looking for something light to eat after a fencing class on the Upper East Side. Sushi Goda is absolutely breathtaking, with a theme park-like entry with LED lights and a giant screen that depicts aquarium scenes - sharks, dolphins, divers. At first glance, it almost looks like a real tank. The menu was extensive, albeit pricey. We made the mistake of not sitting at the bar for the Happy Hour specials, but it was kind of crowded. Instead we got seated. We shared calamari and a California roll, and my husband had tuna sashimi. I had a miso soup and the Wagyu fried rice. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could for the ambiance and wow factor. But what was disappointing was the Wagyu fried rice had almost microscopic bits of beef. I guess I should have expected that for only $16. Calamari was excellent. So was the soup. California rolls were okay. In total our bill was $164 which seemed like a lot considering we didn't even leave stuffed - just comfortable. I get that we were paying for the location and scenery - if we ever go back we will sit at the bar and do the happy hour deals. In all - upscale, cozy and high quality. I'm sure it attracts a lot of locals. But I'd rather go to one of the many great sushi places in Hell's Kitchen for more food, less money. read more

Beautiful little neighborhood gem. Pretty inside and food delicious! They offer happy hour if you sit at the bar with limited food selection but delicious anyway! read more

Delicious sushi, a really beautiful space, and attentive yet unrushed service. I went for the Happy Hour at the bar (10 seats, walk in only, 5-11p) and had the tuna crispy rice $15 and the modern mini kase $49 consisting of a yellowtail scallion roll and 6 chef's selection nigiri. Every bite was fabulous and the fish tasted so fresh! The noise level was average, allowing for easy conversation, the lighting was perfect (bright enough to read the menu but still dim enough for a date night), the menu is large and there's plenty of seating options. I'd say it's pretty high quality sushi for mid level pricing, a very good value. Highly recommend. read more

Why has it taken be 2 years to come to Sushi Goda?! Absolutely unacceptable! I finally made it here for weekend brunch, which is an absolute treat and very fresh! We got the brunch omakase and the maki rolls special, both were so fresh and delicious! Also got a yakisoba noodles for kids (I was pleasantly surprised to see there was also a kids menu! For $22 a kid under 12 can get noodles, katsu dish). The service was also very pleasant! They had 2 TVs on by the bar area where we were sitting, and there were severals kids and they were all laughing and giggling because they had on a warrior obstacle course competition show. It was really cute! Restaurant was quiet, only a few tables. I hope they continue to get good business, I know I will absolutely be back very soon! Brunch is an absolutely great deal too! read more

Went there with my son, my grandson and my son-in-law... We all ordered the same exact dish otherwise it would've gotten too confusing. We all had the Omakase and we all brought our own bottles of either wine or sake, etc.. We are definitely going to do the same exact thing again. read more

Absolutely loved my HH experience here yesterday! They have happy hour at the bar till 10:30 PM and it includes beer, wine, cocktails and apps/sashimi platters. I had their lychee martini which was delish and only $13! For food, my friend and I shared the tuna crispy rice (our fav!), bang bang shrimp, and edamame. Everything was served fresh and was so delicious. The vibe of the restaurant is also super cool! This would be a great date night spot. Can't wait to go back and try more things! read more

Would give sushi goda a 3.5 if possible. Entrance is futuristic and captivating almost like an arcade. Interior is huge, lots of seating available including bar and omakase area. Decor is modern and elevated, great for a date with its dim lights or happy hour. We ordered the wagyu fried rice which was savory however barely any wagyu. The rock shrimp was nicely saucy however not crisp. And the sushi lacked the salty/umami bite. Was left a little disappointed by the taste. Great service from staff, they were prompt and attentive. read more

This is a gorgeous new restaurant that has opened on the UES and I highly recommend you go check it out. Ambiance: The whole set up is gorgeous. When you walk in, there is a brightly lit hallway, feels futuristic. Once you're inside they've created this vibe of indoor garden. They even have a nice fireplace. They have these really nice skylights above their back bar and back dining area so you can get natural light. The whole set up makes the place feel fancy and yet comfortable. Food: We got the spicy cucumber and vegetable gyozas for appetizers. They cucumber sauce was so good, we ended up keeping it for the rest of our feel. The little crunch on top of the cucumber was also such a nice mix. It tasted like a fresh and well seasoned appetizer. The gyozas were also really good. They came out really hot and didn't feel oily. The stuffing inside was a nice combination of different vegetables. As our main course we shared their vegetarian platter. It came with 9 different sushi bites and 8 pieces of the avocado cucumber roll. All the pieces were delicious and I liked how they created different flavor combinations. Service: Service was great. They were quick to seat us and take our order when we were ready. Food came out at a nice pace. Water glasses were filled quickly. Price: For NYC standards, I find this place to be very reasonably priced especially considering the portion sizes. We paid less than $50/person for our whole meal. read more

A disappointing dining experience. Green beans were tough, like they were dried then reconstituted. Not fresh. And why would anyone destroy the clean, delicate taste of cucumber by piling on hot pepper sauce? The sashimi was acceptable but nothing special and the small carafe of sake was overpriced. read more

Literally the best sushi place I've ever been to! Every roll is so unique, flavorful, and incredibly fresh. You truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Their Yuzu Mule is also absolutely delicious, and they have a great happy hour at the bar from 5-10 PM. This place is a hidden gem and easily one of my all-time favorites! read more

Great option in the UES for a family dining option with plenty of room for those with strollers. Only downside is that for those with babies is that there's no changing table in the women's restroom. Lots of great lunch specials. read more

I came here for a quick dinner and really enjoyed it. Once you make it through the hall of mirrors entryway, you arrive at a normal pleasant space with a substantial bar area and seating on one side and tables and chairs on the other. Service is good and quick with all of the usual items but some special ones, as well, like tiradito. I really enjoyed everything, including a series of rolls - toro, yellow tail and shrimp tempura. I can't wait to go back and try more. read more

We stumbled upon this place while staying in NYC for the weekend. I lived my first 50 in NY, but now live in Florida. You can easily pass by this restaurant because it has a small sign above the door and dark windows. Make sure you don't walk by. This restaurant is fantastic. My wife and younger son love sushi. The sushi where we live now is good, but not amazing. This place is the bomb! We started with the rock shrimp which was delicious. I had a few eel rolls combining salt water and fresh water rolls. All of them were incredible. My wife had salmon rolls which was incredible tasty. The sushi was soft and tender. My son had his usual shrimp rolls which he also thought were amazing. The ginger on the side was incredibly fresh and tasty. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Next time I am in NYC I will go out of my way to come back. The service was great and the meal even better. read more

They have refused to seat me because they did not like my honest review. I was there twice, both times disappointing. The second time the sushi omakase was quite good, which I mentioned. The waitress did not understand the menu and my supplemental dishes were pretty bad. The manager accused me of trying to get a free meal. Of course, untrue. If he, or new management, is now enlightened, please invite me back. I assure you I will pay and write another honest review. Robert (212) 831-3131 read more

The ambiance is so good!! I really appreciate that about this place. The service is just the same. I had a quick little snack: a cocktail and some green beans. I came earlier in the day so I only had access to a particular menu. Noticed that they prepare the sushi the way I like (with seaweed on the outside, rice on the inside!!). I was really in the mood for Sashimi, but it wasn't avail. While I was pondering if I should get a sushi roll or not, one of the guys cutting the fish for the sushi sneezed so loud (no care to cover his face and he had the sniffles really bad and breathed in and out through his mouth only (could have need allergies instead of a cold) , either way I refused to get any sushi from there because of that. I did t find that to be so sanitary. That's all. read more

I need to make sure to come back and write a full review. We stopped by late night during happy hour, and absolutely loved it! Hoping we can go back for more and feel the same! Ambiance: You cannot miss the entrance. It is bright, it is mysterious, and it is cool! Service: SO FRIENDLY! Asked to sit at the bar and had so much fun with Andrew and Michael. Both so nice and had great suggestions! Food: - Crispy Tuna Rice (3.5/5) - Rock Shrimp (5/5) - Edamame (5/5) - Happy Hour platter option (can't remember too much, but we were impressed!) (4/5) - I'm a sucker for Toro Fatty Tuna (4/5) - Cocktails were also very fun, strong, and tasty! Will defintely come back and try more!!!! read more

Ooooooh Goda Goda Goda. You're Nobu-ish and SoHo-ish, but very much your own sushi joint. A gorgeous interior -- not sure how to describe the Vegas style, LSD tripping entrance -- and impeccable menu. Price point average for the cuisine and the neighborhood with an exemplary staff. Ritzy Sushi spot with eye pleasing decor that exudes an upper end dining experience. However, the quality for price of food falls short of what you would expect (aside from the apps which are all great). Takeout review experience: Wow! I was not expecting the inside of this place to look so cool. The storefront is deceivingly small but the inside feels so spacious with the ceiling windows that let natural light flood in. I don't know how to describe the theme but it felt very mystical and full of natural elements, like their green plant wall. I decided to pick up a takeout sushi order after seeing a 30% off promo through Uber Eats. I ordered the "roll revelry" set which came with 2 basic maki rolls and one special roll + miso soup. I picked out the yellowtail maki, salmon avocado maki and the "rainbow roll". I couldn't find much on what ingredients they use in the special rolls in online menus so played it safe with this order. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how dressed up my sushi looked. It arrived in a nice wooden take out box with premium soy sauce and a cool spicy mayo/wasabi swirl dip. The sushi tasted great and was fish-heavy, which is always appreciated. The miso soup was equally delightful and had small cubes of tofu and mini shiitake mushrooms. Overall, the takeout experience was great. The employees were kind and let me sit at one of their tables while waiting for the food to come out. The sushi was delicious, so I'm hopeful to return and try dining in. read more

We sat at the bar to do a happy hour special and it did not disappoint. All of the fish was extremely fresh and tasted absolutely amazing. The happy hour deal is not bad! So I want to start off by saying our server was PHENOMENAL, Sylvia was absolutley amazing, chatting with us and helping me with a sake pairing. She did not judge our bigger group birthday celebration and even brought us complimentary mochi for the birthday girl // She is the only reason Im giving this spot 4 stars instead of 3. The reason I'm giving this place a 3 star review is because it was incredibly overpriced. The fish wasnt bad by any means but it wasnt the freshest I've had either. The classic maki rolls were a little flavorless imo, relying on spice rather then flavor. This has nothing to do with our wonderful server just the overall food preparation, The soft-shell crab baobuns were a waste of time, fried with barely any crab meat and no sauce 2/10, rock shrimp 9/10 fresh and hot and then the calamari was stale and rubbery with no flavor. I know frozen calamari from the first bite 0/10. I think they just need to step up the quality of food they're pumping out. It is a larger resturaunt space so im sure they go through alot of fish high volume so maybe thats why the quality on certain items isnt to par. I wouldnt recommend and I wouldnt pay this much for just okay okay sushi and sashimi. Ive had takeout sushi that made more of an impact on me read more

Soft opening omakase. Beautiful setting, dark and spacious. I am curious if they will try to fill up the floor further. At the moment it's comfortable but almost borderline wasteful. However, you can relax and enjoy your personal space in the meantime. The omakase counter is a showcase at the back with dramatic lighting. Service is attentive and efficient. There might be spacing issues as we filled the counter with our group, so the staff had to reach to clear dishes. BYOB with a corkage fee, much appreciated option. Foodwise, the bites skew more traditional though they are done well. There are some more adventurous compositions to start, including crab and uni. The only complaint when it comes to food is perhaps the portion size, though admittedly my fellow diners have large appetites. All in, they're aiming high enough and they're hitting their target. That said, they're joining a crowded market and price point but I'm excited to see how they will grow and flourish. read more

It was very yummy.. except for finding a fly swimming in my soy sauce... and some comments from the waitress. let's start from beginning. It's humid and hot in New York and we stopped by for some food to snack on for the kids as well as to enjoy the AC. The waitress kindly recommended the dragon roll but mentioned that is spicy. She said she can order the spice on the side. We agreed. We also ordered the Wagyu fried rice. Both came fairly quickly, and the dragon roll arrived, but did not have the Spicey mayo on the side as promised. Instead, it was already all over the top of the sushi roll. I asked my daughter to try to see if it's too spicy. She had a small bite and said it was too spicy for her. The waitress took it back with no apology and just said it will take a bit longer to remake it... Which I totally don't think it's our fault, since she said she was one who forgot to mention it to the kitchen in the back. After the kids started eating, they wanted some gyoza. Next waitress came by and we asked to order a plate of gyoza. She just looks at us, and says: again? We are all confused as we didn't order any gyoza at all yet. We said no, we didn't order any yet. And then she kind of impatiently said, OK I'll put it in. Five minutes, my daughter my sees a fly swimming in the soy sauce. Literally swimming in circles... kinda grossed out... I told the next waiter. After the check arrived, the waiter shows up with the tiniest mochi ice cream cut into tiny quarters lol (I guess a type of apology for the swimming fly) Ambience and food is great. If only all of the waitstaff was kind. read more

The entrance to the restaurant makes you feel like you're entering an arcade - cool and futuristic. The inside of the restaurant, in contrast, is clean, elegant, and modern. The staff are very friendly. We got the minikase (6 pieces + hand roll). Great presentation and quick service. Unfortunately, the sushi was quite disappointing. Lacking flavor or salt. Some of the pieces also had a significant amount of wasabi (very likely horseradish) that overpowered the dish and made my eyes water.
