Quiet but high quality sushi restaurant with great prices. They even offer a $60 omakase, which is such a steal, you should call your lawyer before partaking. For the non-sushi inclined, Sake Kawa has good ramen and chicken karaage that are worth your while. Overall, it's excellent food and exceptional value. And I, for one, appreciate that it's below the radar enough (at least for now) that you can walk-in and get a table without needing to call ahead for a reservation.

Sake Kawa is outstanding! The best omakase I've had in recent memory by farrrr. Flown out all the way from Japan, you can taste the level of quality they provide. I also love their peppered tuna very much, they are very kind people. Please give them a try!!

Very fresh fish and delicious oysters for appetizers! Staff very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was nice, originally we reserved the sushi bar but when we arrived they said 7 ppl couldn't fit so sat at the table. Was a bit bummed as I always enjoy to sit at the bar, next time.

Was running errands around Astoria and stumbled across this spot while looking for lunch. From the outside, it looks like a regular neighborhood Japanese restaurant, but once you walk in, you'll find a cozy space with plenty of tables and small sushi counters. We initially planned to do the $60 omakase, but ended up upgrading to the $210 option for two people--and wow, it was absolutely worth it. Chef Alex took his time crafting each piece with care. The selection included familiar choices like fluke, amberjack, and madai, but the freshness was exceptional--truly some of the best I've had in the area. Service was also fantastic--warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. It's honestly a hidden gem. Surprised it wasn't busier, because the quality here really stands out. I'll definitely be back and hope more people discover this place--it deserves the love!

Reading the reviews makes me wonder if maybe we just chose the wrong items Food (3/5): - friend ordered sushi, I ordered miso ramen - miso ramen was just ok. I did quite like the beef but I thought the broth and the noodles didn't quite hit the spot for me Service (5/5): - we came on a day that wasn't very busy so service was quite good Ambiance (5/5): - good for large groups or something casual Originally wasn't planning to come back, but might give it another chance for their omakase which seems to be what most people come for

Seared salmon special roll on top, fancy Q in the middle and a spicy salmon on the bottom

My go to sushi delivery spot!! I love the Fancy Q roll as a tuna lover. Spicy tuna avocado inside with pepper tuna and avocado on top, drizzled with spicy mayo and eel sauce and topped with tobiko and crunch. There's also a seared salmon roll in the store menu that was delicious too. I've had their omakase in the store too and dined in once too. Sad that they're not more popular as a dine in option because the fish is actually quite fresh and there's great options for a no-frills omakase in Astoria. Does not feel pretentious and just delicious simple sushi!

My wife, daughter, and I were in the mood for sushi, so we decided to stop by Sake Kawa. My wife ordered the shrimp tempura roll and rock shrimp tempura (which I, unfortunately, forgot to snap a picture of), while our daughter went for five pieces of unagi. I opted for the omakase. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. At one point, when our daughter had just one piece left but didn't want to finish it, they kindly encouraged her to take the last bite--which we really appreciated. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and we'll definitely be coming back!

Opted for the 210$ omakase for two package this time and the difference between this package and the regular omakase is quite significant and well worth it. Initially my friend and I were going to do the omakase deluxe, but after doing some quick math, we realized it was a mere $15 difference for a few more tasty pieces and appetizers. This entire package came with 16 pieces, 2 appetizers (jalapeño scallop caviar + and peppery tuna tataki), a piece of uni sushi for each person, miso soup AND an ice cream of your choice. We were extremely satiated and stuffed after this meal. Each nigiri piece was delicious with a generous serving of fish to rice ratio. My favorite piece has to be the botan ebi piece. They serve it with a fried fish head; it's essentially a two for one deal! All the pieces were buttery, rich and melted in your mouth. Not a single piece seemed fishy at all. They played with certain condiments like ginger scallion and sambal/chili paste in a few pieces. I love how they kept it simple with specific pieces, but also enhanced the flavors of the other nigiri pieces. You don't have to opt for omakase here as they serve regular sushi here, but the omakase experience is very worth it and probably one of the best in queens. -not byob anymore. They have a good selection of sake, beer and soft drinks tho-

Run don't walk to Sake Kawa!! Seriously stumbled upon such a great hidden gem in Astoria, especially if you are looking for some higher quality items. We got the $60 standard omakase and added the Big Mac hand roll and the three amigo oysters at the end. Chef Alex was amazing and super attentive. He consistently checked in with us and also took into account some of our feedback. Some of our favorite pieces were the medai, the toro with uni, the scallop, and salmon. Everything was fresh, well put together and an amazing price for what you get. Highly recommend & we will be back

Our latest visit, we got the mini chirashi set with spicy miso ramen and the sweethearts roll. The roll itself was fine, but the set was really bad. The rice in the chirashi was barely seasoned and not that fresh it seemed, and the ramen was the worst ramen I've had in NYC. I had it before so I'm not sure what happened, but it was so watery without flavor that we ended up not finishing it (and I HATE wasting food). Lesson learned is to stick with the sushi here.

Came here for lunch with a friend and had their omakase for two. It was super fresh and so delicious. There was also a lot of variety of seafood, and each dish was well thought out and greatly paired. The ambiance is nice and clean. The chef was really nice and friendly! I would totally recommend coming here to get good sushi~

Ate here for lunch and dinner after work as a temporary substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 112 Q. I had brought two different orders which was the salmon bento box and fried vanilla ice cream that it tasted great and delicious. The service there was also attentive but could've been a bit better that my server was kind of rude to me of what to choose and eat. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time.

    Seaweed Salad (~$7)
    Aya E.

Ordered: Seaweed Salad (~$7) Rock Shrimp (~$12): with spicy mayo on the side Any 3 Classic Rolls (~$19): Yellowtail Scallion Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll (comes with Miso Soup) Aya's take: All my years living in Astoria and I had no idea Sake Kawa existed! They offer omakase here but we just came for their regular menu. We started off with the Rock Shrimp which here, was basically popcorn shrimp with a side of spicy mayo. Usually it's tossed together, so I wasn't a big fan of their take on this. The Seaweed Salad is my go-to; it was fresh, cold, and went well my sushi. I also enjoyed the Miso Soup - the broth was nice and warm and I liked the small bits of tofu in every sip. All 3 Rolls were clearly well-made. The fish was fresh and the rolls weren't overly packed with rice. 18 rolls for ~$19 comes out to about $1/piece. There are definitely better prices in Astoria, but the quality somewhat justifies it. Good try overall!

Although close to other tables, when I dined there was no one nearby. There is also bar seating in the front. Service (5/5): I came on a weekend night at 7:30p and there was no wait. Tonkotsu ramen (5/5): Pro move: ask for the thicker noodles (pic is original dish of thin noodles) This was a superb bowl of ramen! The broth is very umami with tons of depth, flavors, and creaminess. Noodles are the straight kind which has a little less bounce than I usually like but still plenty portioned to enjoy. The bowl comes with a lovely half soft boiled egg. The two large pieces of pork char sui were great--tender and flavorful. Reasonably priced bowl at $18 with some additional toppings like wood ear mushrooms, bamboo, green onions, and narutomaki. Definitely coming back here again to try their other bowls!! Pork belly buns (5/5): If you are already getting the pork belly in the ramen, this can be skipped since it's the same meat. However, the sauce was good and the meat is tender. Crab croquette (4/5): It tasted fresh and consistency of a normal croquette-- crunchy on the outside with a softness from potato on the inside. The light panko seasoning was a nice touch. It also comes with a small side of salad. Wagyu (5/5) - thin pieces of wagyu were very fresh and flavorful. The broth feels very soothing and lighter as it was but not as rich as the tonkotsu. I loved the pickled cucumber and cabbage. The thick noodles are perfectly bouncy and chewy. Shoyu Duck (4/5) - Light broth as I did not taste the undertones of duck in the broth.

OK. This won't take long. Fabulous…read more Fabulous meal and fabulous service tonight (Sunday). Three of us came at 6:30 pm and were promptly welcomed. I ordered the Dinner sushi combination D - tuna, salmon and white tuna. It came with a not-so-small small garden salad in a decent dressing. One of my table mates got the Bento box with teriyaki salmon and the other got two rolls (Spicy Girl and Cucumber, Avocado, Jalapeño and Scallion). We also ordered a shrimp shumai appetizer (six small, tasty shumai in the serving). Everything was delicious. And the service was outstanding. To be honest, initially we thought we were being rushed because the server came by repeatedly to remove empty plates and the wrappers from our chopsticks - but we quickly realized that this was really extremely attentive and great service. Throughout the meal, our water glasses were refilled numerous times and we were not rushed at all. After our leisurely meal, we ordered a Green Tea Mille Crepe and an order of fresh fruit. The crepe was very good, although the topping of green tea was a bit thick for us and we scraped it off and ate the rest. The fruit was fresh and delicious. We truly felt very welcomed and valued as customers here. We didn't drink anything other than water, so our bill was only about $100 (before tip) for the 2 hours we were there, but even as we left we felt valued by the serving staff and sushi chefs. An excellent meal and experience.

Firstly, we had wanted to dine in the honey comb booth, so called ahead to reserve one. We didn't know whether a reservation was needed or if we could walk in, but the person on the phone took our name and confirmed our reservation at a specific time on a specific day for a specified number of diners. When we rocked up, we were told that there was no honey comb booth for us. A longer version is that apparently only the two bottom booths are big enough for 4 people but they were both taken. Never mind that as we were leaving, I saw two people in one of those booths. The food? The ramen was mediocre. The omurice was fun to try and the curry sauce was as suitable as their demi glace for it. I wasn't enthused about the bland fried rice for the omurice, though. The popcorn chicken was nice and juicy and stayed that way for the entire meal, which was pleasantly surprising. The pork and chicken yakitori were nice and juicy whereas the beef skirt was overcooked. The braised pork don was on the sweet side but was fine for what it was. The matcha pudding's consistency was closer to a custard than a pudding, but the cream complemented it and the tiny bit of red bean juice actually enhanced the pudding, which would not have been as enjoyable on its own. I doubt I will return, but I wish them well and hope they continue to improve.

I love to bring my children when not crazy crowded so they can also enjoy one of the best ramen restaurants in the world. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I haven't found better yet. Summer soupless ramen with perfectly chewy noodles and slightly spicy sauce is a great addition. The vegan ban ban kinoko as well as its chicken version are great also during summer. The maguro is delicious but I don't find it as satisfying as the noodles. Mind spiciness level for the younglings. In the winter, the spicy tantan or Tokyo ramen always hit the spot. Fish bun has been improved slightly over the years but thank ramen-sama, it is always as messy to eat as the first time I tried it 7 years ago. Desserts are surprisingly delicious.
