Sushi at a certain lower price point tends to look the same across the raw fish spectrum. Whether it's in all you can eat sushi spot or smaller, takeout places like 52nd Sushi, it all becomes a very typical and average sushi experience. The interior reminds me a bit of like a Dunkin that turned into a sushi spot. There are a few stools for countertop eating here, but it is too tight for a large group of any kind. Their delivery has been a saving grace for the neighborhood and the family that works here is very friendly. All of the folks working here speak Mandarin, Fuzhounese, and some English. The sushi is, as described earlier, quite average. Thankfully, the rolls aren't too heavy and the nigiri pieces are just right portion wise. They are an excellent option for a party tray and double as a lunch spot with very affordable deals. Folks who aren't in the sushi, tend to go with their bento boxes. Overall, this is not a destination establishment. It is, however, a neighborhood spot that has a plethora of value sushi. Nice hole in the wall place close to one of the Blink gyms I went to today. It's relatively small but the food is fresh and the aesthetic of the place has the feel of that of a Japanese restaurant tucked into a commercial street in Shinjuku. I had a simple lunch special, the sushi I got was pretty filling. I didn't think 3 rolls would be enough but it hit the spot along with the miso soup. The menu changed, the prices went up. The Woodside staple, has officially been replaced by 52nd Sushi Bro's. It's gone. The mom and pop shop was affordable and the food was good. Then they retired. Family members came in to take over. They added /changed the menu a little bit. Everything was basically the same. However, after a recent visit, the name was changed. The menus were changed. Yay! So glad this place remains. I came here years ago and never left disappointed. This is a tiny place. Maybe seating for 7-8 people. I ordered the sashimi bento box and it was awesome! I've walked past this unassuming place for years. We had other sushi restaurants to order from. Now our favorite has been closed for half a year or so, and finally I had the presence of mind to remember this place, and after looking over the reviews here I decided we had to order. We ordered the Maki B and Maki 3 combos as well as the 52nd Roll, as well as an order of gyoza. This didn't seem like a lot, but boy did it fill us up, and we couldn't have been happier. A few weeks later we ordered those combos again, but with the dragon roll and were no less pleased so this is now our go-to sushi takeout. Honestly love the sushi here (it's actually the only sushi spot that I would go on a daily basis if I could) this is my go to spot to get some sushi after a half day at school, or after a regents test (mainly because there's a lunch speacial that goes on during every mon-sat 11:30am- 3:00pm. This place is really small and it seems that most people get their food delivered or picked up since no one really stayed and ate there while I was eating there. Service was good. The waitress was attentive and while it seemed a little busy, the only waitress was there when we asked. The food was delicious. Price is decent for sushi. I ordered the 3 roll Maki special, 1 extra roll and 1 bowl of seafood udon for only $30. The sushi was good, but nothing extraordinary. Udon gave a good amount of seafood and I really enjoyed it. I had high expectations because their prices were less affordable than its neighborhood competitor, TJ's, so figured the sushi was probably better. Guess what though? It's much shittier and more pricey!! First thing you might notice about 52nd Sushi is how bummy it looks - it's a straight take-out place and it's really hot in the restaurant so hopefully they use all that electric money towards keeping the fish fresh. I made the mistake of ordering their maki combo of spicy tuna, salmon and yellowtail and they were some of the worst spicy rolls ever. I'm well aware that spicy rolls normally have the fish minced and mixed with spicy mayo. That definitely not how this joint had it. It was the raw fish with spicy mayo completely drenched on top. Absolutely the worst sushi I've ever had. White tuna sashimi was spongy texture, the cut of fish was really chunky(Not a sashimi cut). They used a end part of the Salmon for sashimi and the size of cut was 2/3 of my finger literally. It is okay to use frozen sashimi but it has to be treated properly so the fish doesnt get mushy. The plot thickens.....and I mean the plot of that story where I get take-out sushi and watch movies in bed in my underwear. Usually, TJ Asian Bistro around the corner is the winner for me. I had about an entire roll left over, I was satisfied and didn't want to keep eating...Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The dragon roll was realllllly good. Oh and the miso soup stood out to me as well, it was very flavorful. The restaurant itself was tiny with minimal seating. Full of toppings. The salmon yaki dish was good. Nothing to scream about as it's salmon with teriyaki sauce on top. It was cooked perfectly however. Service was excellent. They accept card. The food here is very good, the prices are excellent, and the portions are average to generous. If you don't mind eating in just under the 7 train (just north of the 52nd St stop) or take out (no delivery), and the limited menu -- the value is very good. It's as good or better than other sushi places in Woodside and Sunnyside, AND it's a lot cheaper. $3 for avocado and cucumber, $7 for a spicy tuna roll + 4 pieces of sushi. So far I am a fan of this place. The dining area is very small. I read on Yelp that it was small but when I got there, it is really small. Maybe 2 tables and a bar along the window. I'd opt for take out as they don't deliver. I ordered the Maki C combo which has crunchy/spicy tuna, crunchy/spicy salmon, and a sunny roll which is basically a spicy california roll. This combo was $16 for 3 rolls and comes with a miso soup. They also have a small Korean section on the menu which is pretty cool. I ordered the Bulgoki over rice from here which comes with a salad, miso soup, and edamame for $9. Overall for 2 people it was under $14 each. Not bad for sushi and korean food in one sitting. I'd definitely give this place a try, maybe during the week since it doesn't have a big dining area and they do offer some good lunch specials. read more

If you're looking for quality sushi without paying the TJ Asian bistro price then you're in luck. 52nd street sushi (actually closer to 53rd st) is a small store front with a cosy interior that makes for an intimate dinner date spot or a casual place to meet for fresh sushi and a great Kani salad. Usually Kani salad is made with mayonnaise base but not here ! Their kani salad is probably the best I've had. Light, fresh and no mayo ! Delicious. And a huge portion that could easily feed 2.
