This restaurant is located on Ditmars Blvd with lots of street parking during the weekdays. If you can't find a spot on the street, there is a municipal parking lot nearby. My colleague and I were seated immediately. About half of the tables were occupied. The place is beautifully styled with a decorative pool at the rear of the restaurant. Our server was kind and attentive. I had the very reasonably priced lunch special of two sushi rolls that came with a choice or miso soup or salad. I preferred the miso soup. A generous serving was provided. My rolls of choice were the Spicy Salmon and the Yellowtail Scallion. Both were fresh and delcious. We also ordered the Seaweed Salad, another bountiful serving. Definitely recommend this place when in Astoria, Queens.

Watawa Sushi is a cute aesthetic sushi spot in Astoria, New York that I was really looking forward to trying! I love the interior, there's beautiful lights and decor, there's also a pond inside the restaurant! As for the food, the fish quality was really fresh and delicious! I ordered sushi, sashimi and rolls and was pleasantly pleased with the freshness of the sushi and sashimi. The rolls were well flavored and beautifully presented. Service was great, the staff would check up on my table often to make sure we were good. I definitely would recommend checking out Watawa Sushi especially for their lunch specials which is offered daily even on weekends!
Never knew this place existed in Astoria , beautiful ambiance for a date night !! This is the SUSHI spot , if you need a high end one in Queens !! Now on to the food , everything was delicious. Definitely try the colorful sushi just ask , I forgot the name . But I remembered the glazed Steak was so good. Parking - Street Reservation- Recommended Service - 10/10
Sat at the bar for a quick sushi stop and had a great experience. I ordered Watawa's Wasabi Roll and the Irine Roll. Both were fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The waiter was friendly and helpful, especially with sushi recommendations, which made ordering easy. Perfect spot for a quick, satisfying sushi fix. Would definitely come back.
**this is based on a delivery** I have heard rave reviews and was eager to try this, I ordered the garlic Chilean sea bass. It was paired with noodles and it was quite tasty. The sea bass was cooked perfectly, however it was a bit too salty for me. I also ordered the miso soup and edamame, both simple and delicious. As for service, it was properly sealed and delivered promptly.
Watawa is really a great local sushi spot that everyone clearly knows about. It keeps busy throughout the night with a continuous flow of people dining in and picking-up takeout orders. The portion sizes are much larger than other places and very easy to share. We ordered sushi and sashimi for 2 and it was plenty for the three of us. They have a full bar plus speciality drinks. We all opted for the saketini. The servers work in conjunction with one another so there is always someone around if you need anything. It features multiple seating areas to choose from. It's great for large parties as well as an intimate date night if you are able to score a table around the water pond. Reservations are not required unless you are a party of 5 or more.
Watawa has been consistently putting out great sushi since the early 2000s. Been coming here ever since with family and the fact that they still serve some of the same rolls they offered back then is so so cool. Star rolls are the dynamite roll, fantasy roll and ocean tiger. Def stop in if you're in the area-they're a solid restaurant with great service and fun airy decor.
Haven't been here in a long time. Usually I come in the evening so I was able to come across the lunch menu and to my luck the rock shrimp lunchbox was amazing. Service was great. Ambience was amazing. I got to sit outside with my friend and Enjoy the neighborhood.
After almost a year of planning, our meetup finally came to fruition. Without hesitation a swift choice was made to gather at Watawa Sushi in Astoria. Watawa's double wide, modern restaurant is nicely décored in colors of beige and white, with bright pops of red. A large dining area greets you upon entry, with the secondary area housing long bar seating, additional dining tables, plus a beautifully maintained pond sprinkled with rose petals for the holiday season. To start with drinks, I piggybacked off of Sunshine's order of a Lychee Martini. The Lychees were fruity, juicy and sweet and the liquor quite strong. It was a martini after all. Our apps and rolls pictured were very good. Though next time my roll ordering will need to be more cognizant of food tolerances within our group, so each item can be enjoyed. :) All in all a pleasurable afternoon at Watawa, hanging with chill Yelp peeps I haven't seen in multiple years. Fun times, in a great environment with great service, fulfilling conversations plus laughter rounding out this long awaited Dec 2024 holiday meetup perfectly.
I ordered the lunch special for takeout, it get fresh and without even the slightest hint of fishiness. The lunch special comes with your choice of 3 rolls (6pc each). I got the Spicy Salmom (great, minced finely), Yellowtail with Jalapeño (I'd recommend the Yellowtail Scallion instead), and tuna with avocado (fantastic, great cut of tuna). The miso soup came with the special and it was great as well and a large portion. All in all, would definitely recommend, and I'll dine-in next time as it seems nice and proper inside.
I had been here when it first opened (before I was on Yelp), so I'm glad I got to come bacl with family tonight to revisit & review. I got the vegetable gyoza to start, the agedashi tofu, avocado/cucumber roll, and sweet potato roll. The gyoza were perfectly crisp on the edges with chewy center and delicious filling. I asked for the tofu to be extra crispy but it came out regular (I'm just not a fan of soft tofu consistency), but it was still tasty (esespecially with the sauce that came with it). The rolls were tightly packed and had a decent amount of filling for the plain vegetarian options. Family got the edamame, calamari, rock shrimp, chicken katsu, a few different teriyaki combos, and several rolls and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere was chill, the drinks were STRONG, and the service was spectacular (servers, bartender, and bussers).
I've heard of this spot and read the reviews, so it has been bookmarked on my end. I saw a line out the door, so it led me to anticipate the sushi restaurant. However, it was for the seafood spot next door. That place was packed with people outside and inside. Once you walked inside, the decor of the place was nice and trendy. There's a pool and tables surrounding it all, and behind the red curtain are the bathrooms. Anyways, regarding the service at watawa, it was good. Now food wise, I got the Watawa Wasabi Roll. In it was the spicy tuna, topped with four kinds of caviar. I didn't really taste the tuna too much, maybe because the caviar overpowered it all? I had some of the chicken teriyaki, which was a large portion, so that filled me up. The fried green tea ice cream was great. Overall, it was nice, but I wish the entrees were tastier.

Place is beautiful and spacious. Came in as a walk in and we were greeted and sat immediately. Staff were pleasant and welcoming. The food selection is vast you will take a few minutes deciding on what you would like because everything looks good. Fish is fresh you can taste it. Portions are great and appreciated the sushi counter so you can watch them prepare the rolls. Only complaint would be that appetizer came out maybe a 2-3mins before the main course. read more

Stopped in late one night as a group of 5, was blown away with this place! Lots of tables but they are spaced out so you don't feel like you are sitting right on top of each other. Beautiful space and incredible food. Portions were a good size, so many choices for sake, and everything we tried was delicious. Staff was great, very attentive and friendly. read more

The ambience is there, but the music is a tied but too loud. They don't take reservations however the space is big so walk-ins are no issue. Ordered two apps, two portions of salmon sashimi, and two rolls. The portions for the fried calamari and miso Seabass were really big for an appetizer. Would not recommend the two rolls that we ordered (pauline & fantasy); unfortunately, trying to pick something unique bit us in the butt. We didn't like the fantasy role because it was deep fried, which was something we did not expect. Overall, this establishment is fine. read more
My friends and I wanted to find a lunch special in the area on a weekday. Since the menu on the website doesn't share the prices, I called in to check the price of the lunch specials. I was told they are $17, but it turns out it was $19+. Not a huge deal, but wanted to call that out. Still, $19 for 3 rolls is a good enough deal ($15 for 2 rolls or $19 for a lunch box set, about $22-26 for other lunch specials). My friends and I got the rolls lunch specials. I ordered the eel avocado, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon rolls. (Spicy rolls are usually never spicy enough for me so gotta default at spicy). Service was good; when we asked if they had a spicy dipping sauce, they brought this spicy mayo type dip. I enjoyed the spicy salmon rolls; it comes with a small piece of salmon that is visible in the roll with some crunchy ingredient too. The piece of eel was quite small in the eel roll, but at least the avocado chunk was big. All the rolls had minimal rice though which I also appreciated; it didn't overwhelm the taste of the fish. My friends ordered different rolls as well, and I really enjoyed the spicy crab roll they ordered. The yellowtail had a good texture but lacked flavor aside from fresh fish. This restaurant is pretty room and there's multiple different dining spaces. The front area is a more casual vibe that also has the sushi counter (and counter seating), while the second room is a bit more elevated and there's even a back area that has a pond next to the tables with what I think was a skylight! I enjoyed this meal and would come back, especially for the lunch specials! read more

Found this gem randomly while craving sushi. Definitely a spot we'd like to visit again. The atmosphere felt really welcoming, you could tell some guests were regulars there and it became evident why once we tried the crispy rice. The first bite was truly an orgasmic burst of flavor! I had dinner here after wanting to try it for a while. Ambiance is lively, good for groups and parties. Drinks are excellent- had a mai tai and a pomegranate martini, both were strong and well crafted. Food is good. Standard sushi fare with fresh ingredients. Would go here again. read more

Locatio: Astoria Queens NY Ambiance: very clean and nice set-up inside and 2 or 3 tables i believe outside extension. Service: always good can't complain. Food: I tried their ramen before but I think It was the udon with veggies it was a little bland for me but this time I ordered the lunch box (bento) with the shrimp and miso soup and all the stuff. So so so good. Highly recommend. 19 for takeout but since i changed dine in it was 20 and change haha. read more

Dined in for an early NYE dinner and it did not disappoint. My first time eating in (usually take it to go) and the service was fantastic. Loads of staff effortlessly maintaining an exemplary dining experience. The sushi melted in my mouth as I ate. We were lucky enough to sit by the sushi chefs a s were able to watch them work! Wonderful service here, very attentive and accommodating servers and hosts! I visited this place with a friend of mine and had a great lunch. We both had the Salmon Teriyaki lunch box special and it was delectable. I ordered a green tea with my meal and the little pot it came in was adorable. It was a Saturday so they were very busy and even though their service never wained. They have since renovated and the space is larger. I now want to bring my husband here for date night! read more

Amazing service & fresh sushi/rolls right on your fingertips! The dragon roll was so delicious, probably the best dragon roll I ever had. The eel & the sauce was dancing on my tongue like a "i don't want this to ever-end" feeling. The service was superb & accommodating. They have inside and outside seating so you can choose! I appreciate the interior design of that place; classy & relaxing. I peeped the menu & saw h their lunch special; I am definitely coming back to try that. On a side note, a little expensive to your average sushi price, but it's worth it, trust me. read more

Watawa gets an automatic five star rating due to how terrible that joke Tokyo Ya was. Also, their sushi prep was fast which is how it should be. Not to mention, this place is far more spacious with nicer employees. I'll prop up this business and drag down another that deserves it. I do not care. read more

I used to eat here once a month or so, introduced to it by an old friend. Fast forward a decade and a major renovation later and, well... It's still great. It's airy but warm, having swapped bright blues for deep apricot tones in a relaxing but upbeat space. The waitstaff is an ever attentive army, but go about anticipating guest needs in an easy, unhurried way. I took The Wife and John the Greek to an introductory dinner of the place I was excited to reacquaint myself with over chicken katsu, sushi platter, grilled eggplant and unagi don, all of which were fresh, perfectly made and tasted as good, if not better than the first time I was brought here. Reasonably priced, relaxing and delicious, put yourself in the capable hands of the chefs and staff of Watawa - enjoy one of the best restaurants in not simply Astoria, but the City as a whole. read more

Their quality of sushi is pretty good and always consistent in my experience. Lunchtime specials are reasonable. The vibe is also very relaxing, which makes it enjoyable to dine there. Their cocktails and desserts are decent, but it would be great to have a few more options for those two menus. read more
One of the best sushi restaurants in this area of Astoria. The presentation is always nice and service really attentive. The spicy tuna , spicy salmon, Boston roll and Philadelphia roll are all basic but good . I do suggest trying out the Dynamite roll for a different twist , spicy tuna topped with crunchy spicy crabmeat - yummy ! You can't go wrong with Gyoza for an appetizer. The restaurant is fairly large, and can accommodate large groups easily. read more
