    crab rangoon, eel avocado roll

I go back and forth on this restaurant - every time is a little different in quality. In general the quality of the fish is just average so I prefer to get cooked things like eel here rather than a bunch of raw sashimi. The rice also is usually a bit overcooked and they add too much to their nigiri. However, I do feel that the prices are great and reflective of the quality. The ambiance also is pretty striking with large floating fish throughout. They also have tablets as menus at every table - kind of nice, but confusing because you can't order at the table, and also probably not a great use of resources in general. They do keep the restaurant very clean, however. They have a tablet at the door where you can order so you don't even have to talk to anyone. If you do talk to someone, they're very kind and quick. In general I appreciate the existence of an affordable sushi restaurant in the area and would probably come back here again. I would give this restaurant a 3.5 most for the price and ambiance and not really the quality of food.

Saw this new spot opened on my walk home from work. Finally got a chance to try it, and was not disappointed! We were able to walk in without a reservation, and were seated at a very comfortable table. We tried a little of everything on the menu, from agedashi tofu, to the seaweed salad, to the salmon hibachi, and the chicken tempura sushi. We even ended the night with green tea and chocolate ice cream. Everything was absolutely delicious, and felt like they had been prepared with a lot of care. Prices were reasonable too and we left stuffed for $70 with tax and tip. Saw several other couples here for date night as well. Feeling so lucky to live 10 mins from this spot!

Simple decor and cozy vibe. I've had dinner here couple times before last night. The first time was when they first open, 2nd time was last week. Both time wasn't too busy and service was pretty fast. I can see their business is definitely picking up because last night was packed which is a good thing. However, they probably need more sushi chef/kitchen staffs. Service was soooo slow and all tables had to wait quite a long time for the food regardless of sushi or cooked entrees! On top of that, I saw they also have quite a bit of take out/uber eats etc orders as well. I am happy their business is good and when they get this management/hiring issues sort out, it's definitely a nice neighborhood joint with decent sushi.

Just moved to this area and had a great welcome from the neighborhood's food scene. The place has just been opened so they still don't have the alcohol license (the only small downside), but everything else was great! The fish was very fresh: my husband and I shared a very delicious noodles and the smallest sushi boat 1 and the quantity was very generous. Overall very fair price too for the meal we had. Staff was friendly and service was fast.

Was walking in the area with my mom and passed by on the way to a bakery, but good thing we turned back. One of the staff members opened the door for us. It's wheelchair accessible. Attentive and helpful staff. Great first impression of the place - garden decor, chandeliers/ambient lighting. Got the Creme Anglaise souffle pancakes - with fresh fruits, very light and fluffy, not too sweet. Ice cream sounded simple on the menu - though just a small scoop, it came with red bean paste, fresh fruits so not bad @$6. Rose latte is rosy of course with crushed petals. Liked the food presentation, cute spoons. Will surely return. Restroom available.

The soufflé pancake was unfortunately quite mushy, without much of a bite to it. The salmon was fresh but the cuts were on the thinner side, so it was decent but nothing extraordinary. The aesthetics look nice and welcoming, but the service was more cold and distanced; would definitely improve the mood if the servers were more social and friendly! Our server forgot one of our drinks, and didn't ask if we wanted our lattes sweetened or not, so we asked for simple syrup to sweeten our drinks ourselves. To our surprise, we were charged for simple syrup as shown on the receipt as a custom item...never have I been to any restaurant or cafes where you had to pay to sweeten your own drink. Unfortunately, this cheapened the experience and made it feel like you're being nickeled and dimed by a pretty restaurant. Not sure if this is the restaurant's/owner's rules or just the server being incompetent/not efficiently trained. We dined at 2pm on September 9th, 2026, as to not get other servers in trouble! Overall, Vert Frais definitely has a lot of potential of being an amazing Japanese brunch spot, so I hope this review can help them reach their truest potential! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

The yakitori here is very tasty. We loved the veggie skewers (okra and shishito peppers. The salmon belly is actually just salmon pieces and not the belly party. The enoki beef was little too salty. The squid, beef and scallops were very tasty. The veggies tempura were freshly fried and delicious. Could have been drained a little better. Salmon crispy rice was a hit but the star of the show was the sushi and sashimi deluxe and the blue Toro roll. Amazingly fresh. The passion toro was a little too sweet and fishy for us and had no passion fruit taste. Service here is amazing. Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.

They had all of their original dashis out to taste, then they had a section where you could make your own. It was great getting to taste them and see what you liked so you could build around that. My boyfriend was the one making the dashi, so I perused the fun goods while he built his base. The dashi does take some time to make, so you can select your blend, then leave for a while and come back later.

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 7 Value: 6 Overall: 6 I have to preface that, if I had reviewed Hibino in the past, they likely would have received 4 stars. Unfortunately, my latest experience was such a letdown that I have to average that into this review. My usual order here over 10+ years has always been their Kaisen Don, which had some of the better quality sushi rice available in Queens. If you don't think sushi rice is important, then skip my review. If you do, then know that my preference is slight warm rice that does not clump together, with a nice touch of vinegar. Hibino seems to get this part right regularly, but not this past Sunday. It was cold, clumpy, and super light on seasoning. Furthermore, as soon as the bowl arrived, I was a bit skeptical since it's not the usual square box filled with premium goodies. Instead, it was a smaller round bowl with relatively common pieces of sashimi. In the past, there were toro, ikura, uni and scallop, but none were present on Sunday. The only premium pieces I received was the spotted prawn. The rest were salmon, yellowtail, bluefin tuna, sea bass, and arctic char. More importantly, some of the sashimi pieces were somewhat mushy and slightly fishy, not the best quality. On the other hand, we also ordered their Chirashi, which had seared toro, yellowfin tuna, salmon belly, yellowtail belly, shrimp, and flying fish roe. Between the proteins and rice is a layer of shredder egg. Sadly, rice was still cold and lacked flavor, but the egg did help a bit. Though I prefer the thin slices of sashimi in the Kaisen Don over the chunky pieces of fish in the Chirashi, I did prefer the latter on that day. Bottom line, I will give them another chance, but the downgrade on the quality of rice and premium seafood in the Kaisen Don was a major disappointment. Praying my next visit restores my faith in the restaurant.
