Finally was able to swing by after seeing so much online about this grocery store! I got the chirashi bowl and the salmon bowl, both of which were delicious. They were continuously putting fresh sushi out, even though I came at an off peak hour, which I really appreciated. Great assortment of other items as well outside of just the sushi, and they even had testers available! I'd definitely come back again - so glad there's something like this in the area.

I tried MOGMOG a month ago and now I want it all the time. The shop is curated and organized very well- not too overwhelming. The chirashi/sashimi bowls are such high quality at such a reasonable/cheap price compared to everything else that's out there. They don't skimp on the fish in their bowls either. Their bento boxes come with such a variety of different fish cakes/veggies (pickled and not). Again, they really fill it with flavorful, nutritious food, rather than having it 50% rice like most other places. I'm really hoping MOGMOG sticks around for years to come and I can't wait for my next meal here.

I've been meaning to come try Mogmog after seeing all the food influencers rave about this spot. Unfortunately, I feel deceived. Plus, it's a trek for me to come out to LIC. The shop is tiny with some Japanese groceries along with ready-made sushi, bento boxes, onigiri, etc. They also have the famous $110 melon from Japan, wild. My friend and I got three things to share: Small Chirashi Bowl ($24), Small Kaisen Sushi Bowl ($38), and Mackerel Sushi ($8). Plus, we got a water and tea to drink as well. For the price, it was way more than I expected to spend at a convenience/grocery store for take-out food. I do blame it on the uni for probably making it pricier than it needed to be though, which I could live without. Plus, portions are pretty tiny. The sashimi is sliced very thinly and there's more rice than anything, especially the mackerel sushi. While I did like the chirashi bowl, it's nothing I'd come out of my way for. Quite frankly, I'd rather go to Ten ichi Market instead. It's the same product at a more affordable price. Plus, you get 50% off after 8pm there --can't get a better deal!

Dam you social media! Ever since some instagrammer put these guys on his gram, my visits have certainly been more crowded and agitating! LOL I used to shop for my sushi bowls in relative peace but now I'm rubbing elbows with those trying to get the freshest fish. Of course I'm well aware of the irony, here I am doing the same thing. Haha. This neighborhood favorite of Long Island City certainly deserves all the accolades and fame. I'm hopeful that the quality stays top notch and most importantly when I drop in for my sushi bowl that they don't run out because of the crowds! Haha The shop does provide a few more Japanese favorites for the pantry, it's no where near a Costco in terms of inventory but they may have a few Japanese favorites for your shelf.

One of the many things I love about living in NYC is many Japanese mini market type places - a mom and pop like this one along with the chain stores like Teso and Daiso. We have options to get our hands on imported treats. Although I don't live nearby, we saw an IG post about the quality of their sashimi and sushi and made us curious to make the trip. The store isn't that large, but has a good layout - rectangle shaped with an island refrigerated case of sashimi, sushi. The chirashi and bowls are beautifully presented. None come with wasabi or gari, but you can purchase them. We most likely purchased the most expensive bowl in the case - Premium Kaisen Sushi Bowl. We also got the Salmon Ikura bowl. I must say they were quality ingredients, but considering the price and that these are premade sitting in a refrigerated case in the future I would be more inclined to go to nearby Hibino to get a freshly made chirashi bowl. Going forward I would get the less expensive rolls or sashimi - I found the rice too cold for the premium i was paying. I have no complaints and in fact recommend the onigiri after trying the spicy roe one. Same goes for the Jumbo spicy chicken sandwich on a nicely made pineapple bun - a generous slab of chicken with lettuce tomato shredded cucumber, american cheese! and special sauce that reminded me of the one on a big mac. I thought this might be even better as a filet o' fish sandwich. There are little tables out on the sidewalk so you can eat your purchase there, but we opted to take it to my AC'ed home. If you are looking to get your Japanese market fix you will most likely be satisfied here.

Probably one of the best salmon & ikura bowls I've ever had. This Japanese grocery store offers an amazing range of grab-and-go options including chirashi bowls, sashimi, onigiri, and seasonal Japanese snacks you won't find elsewhere. The staff are friendly and efficient, and everything is packaged beautifully. Prices are fair for the quality. The East River is also pretty close -- you can grab your meal and take a short walk to Hunter's Point South Park or Gantry Plaza State Park for skyline views of Manhattan. It's a perfect lunch spot on a nice day.

Had to update my review because the kakigori is amazing! I've stopped by a few times this summer to order it and it's always so good. The strawberry is excellent and the peach is incredible. Still need to try the mango! Just note it takes about 15 mins for them to make it (very worth it).

This little Japanese grocery store is delightful and contains so many treasures. I came here one morning and got a soy sauce and a chirashi bowl. Both were really good. The store itself is pretty small so it can get crowded but everyone there was nice and helpful. Definitely a great place to get good quality fish and Japanese grocery items.

Cool little Japanese store that also sells takeout food in the middle of the store mainly focused with rice balls and raw fish We got the salmon Salmon & Ikura Sushi Bowl, the mentaiko rice ball and they had a soup of the day we got as well i think it was like beef stew type shiii Great value for the food, it was fresh, nothing to complain besides maybe a lil rice heavy in the bowl. The rice ball tho actually was really good and had ample filling unlike mitsuwa and other onigiri places. Definitely a solid takeout sushi spot

Located in LIC, this shop sells an assortment of Japanese goods, ingredients, and to-go dishes. After recently going viral on TikTok, this spot has become pretty busy. I highly recommend to come here before lunch or on a weekday if you want to try one of their to-go bowls. There's also only seating outside. After passing by this shop so many times, I decided to swing by after a run and got myself their takoyaki. The takoyaki was flavorful, generous with the ingredients and garnishes, and crispy despite being in a container. Overall, pretty solid for to-go and I would love to come back to try their chirashi bowls or buy some Japanese ingredients!

The bowls are premade and sitting in a fridge, it's grab and go. There are 2 sizes for the salmon & ikura bowl, $15 or $24. The one pictured is the $15. I think it's great quality, flavor, and value for the price. I would definitely get again :)

It is a 2.5 star for me. Staffs were friendly and things were very neatly placed. Very unique store for the area and very clean. I brought a $15 salmon bowl and it was very small. Felt like kid size. The salmon was very thinly sliced and they had less than an inch height of rice. Wasabi was an extra dollar. The salmon was fresh and the rice was slightly seasoned and cooked to perfection but the portion size is tiny. The ikura and shiso leaf was a nice touch but the size is just too small for what it is.

    Michelle O.

The salmon and ikura bowl was pretty and tasty. The fish glistened under the light. The matcha kakigori was large and adorned with small rice puff cakes. I liked how fluffy the ice was and how it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. It took about 20 minutes to receive after ordering since there were a few orders before us. There're benches near a tree and a few tables that are available to eat at. It's a small shop filled with usual and unique items. There are dry, refrigerated and frozen foods. I found a cute pair of wooden children's chopsticks. It has a neighborhood-like charm, which is especially apparent when the middle school age boys came by to pick up some candy.

Astoria Seafood is definitely the favorite! The staff are so welcoming and warm it's like being served by friends and family. The seafood options here seem bigger than other places, though they didnt have my favorite octopus on this day. There's also a huge variety of sides to pick from. The only con I can possibly name is that we both smelled so strongly like fried calamari after dining here that I could only smell calamari on our clothes at our new year's party several hours later! Maybe poor ventilation or just a very busy day. Cannot wait to come back to Astoria Seafood. Very casual dining experience - a must for seafood lovers no frills and great value.

You can order hot, readymade foods and/or grab a plastic bag and pick your seafood at the raw bar (an array of whole fish, fish fillets, squid, octopus, crab legs, squid, shrimp, lobster tails etc.). I picked out 4 squids and 6 scallops that ran me $21. They allow you to choose how the seafood will be cooked-- I fried my calamari and grilled my scallops. The fried calamari was the best calamari I've had. It was meaty inside and tender, with not too much breading, paired with yummy tartar sauce. Weirdly, when the scallops were served to me, there was 1-2 missing. Um ok? It was bathed in olive oil and was scrumptious. Overall, the seafood was super fresh and tasted amazing. I have to come back to try grilled octopus and whole fish! Also, the server lady was nice knowing it was my first time there, but as I was leaving the joint, she solicited me for tip, telling me that "tip was not included in the price paid". Weirded out, I gave her a $5 bill, and looked up the reviews of this place to find that sometimes the servers will approach you for tip and have even been known to chase you down the block if you leave without tipping. Super weird, but whatever, they work hard I guess. I'd come back... for now.

We also had the fried soft shell crab sandwich with the side of Caesar salad. The sandwich was well balanced with the crunchy crab and herby aioli. The Caesar was light and refreshing. The fish and chips came with two fried filets of white fish and a basket of classic fries. The fish was lightly battered and flakey. The house made tartar sauce was a good complement to it. The wait was around 30 minutes for 4 on at 1:30p on a Sunday. By the time our meal ended, there were several empty tables. Ordering wasn't as smooth as we hoped but all in all corrected (order was wrong but was corrected when we were asked to re-confirm the order). By the time we sat, the food was out within 20 min and then the pancakes came out another 20 min after the first dish. Food (5/5): The food was outstanding! Seriously like everything from the pancakes, ramen, to the lemonade. Lunch special of Tan Tan ramen (special May 2026) and Pork Cha-Shu Bowl. Tan Tan was spectacular and was def better than the bowl. The broth had so much flavor with richness, spice, spicy level, half seasoned egg. The noodles were also a lovely bouncy chew. The pork was pretty standard with about 5 thin slices spread over a soy sauce based sauce. Omurice was very silky. The egg was nice and runny. I liked that the sauce wasn't too ketchup-flavor forward. I enjoyed the rice which had bits of meat which gave it more flavor too. Crème Anglaise Souffle Pancake - my only wish was that there was more of it because it was so good. The cream that was on top was not too heavy and the zest flavors blended surprisingly well.
