Fun omakase experience in a U-shaped table. The service was very attentive. The drinks were very good and paired well with the meal. The food was very entertaining and beautifully plated. It was a nice experience where the food took center stage. Sorry I can't remember all the intricate names of all the plates ... but they look lovely and they were delicious!

Wherever you live in NY, U Omakase is worth the trip to Greenpoint. The menu is not so much traditional Omakase, but rather a tasting menu that leans heavily on sushi. Our meal included a delicious mussel soup to start, several fish dishes including soft shell crab, Otoro, and my favorite, Mackerel, and Wagyu beef cooked to perfection. The staff remembered we were celebrating my wife's birthday and even put a birthday candle in her ice cream at the end of the dinner! The only growth area for the restaurant is its ambiance which feels a bit bipolar, with wallpaper running up to industrial-looking exposed concrete and lighting that has a mix of lovely chandeliers and naked lightbulbs. The restaurant also suffers a bit from its rectangular footprint, which requires staff to load the food onto trays for a short walk to the serving area. Overall, exquisite cuisine and a great value. Such a hard combination to find in New York, making U worth a visit!

U Omakase offers a unique Chef's Tasting experience in Greenpoint, blending traditional Japanese flavors with a modern twist. We the $89 13-course Chef's Tasting. The clam consommé was my personal favorite , it was rich, buttery, and packed with umami. The torched scallop had the perfect balance of smoky sweetness, and the A5 Wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Other highlights included the smokey king salmon, and the refreshing kampachi with basil jelly. Each course was inventive and beautifully presented, making for an unforgettable dining experience. If you're looking for a creative, not-so-traditional Japanese omakase, U Omakase is a must-try!

We came to U for a birthday after first booking a couple different omakase spots. U not only had great reviews but we liked that it was an untraditional menu, bringing together a variety of different dishes, not just nigiri. We were blown away by the experience. While I won't go into every course, I can genuinely say there was nothing that wasn't liked. It was difficult to choose a favorite because each item was unique in flavor profile, presentation, and focus. Not to mention the portions are very generous for 11 of them, leaving us extremely satisfied at the end. The staff was attentive and explained each dish. We even spoke to the owner a bit who was kind and a lot of fun, telling us about the origination of U and its ever changing menu. All in all we would absolutely come back - this is one of the best value omakase spots in the city and some of the best food we've had.

This was just a great experience! Came here with a few friends. It's much more casual vibe than most omakases but don't let that fool you: the quality and flavors of the food was excellent. I won't spoil too much but I am still dreaming of that snow crab. The dinner lasts about 2 hours. It's BYOB but they also serve you house sake! Considering the food, ambiance, and sake, I'd say this is one of the best omakase deals in the city. Looking forward to returning!

Great omakase spot. BYOB but they do serve sake throughout the seating. I loved that they told you how to eat each dish (chopsticks, spoon, right away, etc). Everyone there was so friendly and nice and we had a phenomenal experience. The food was also so yummy. I heard they used to do a little more of a show and this felt pretty simple. Also would love a tiny bit longer of a service - more time between dishes and more time before clearing dishes. All in all would absolutely come back for another special occasion, this is a fantastic establishment!

I came here on a whim since I'm looking for a local Brooklyn spot with high quality fish and good flavors. This place has a chill vibe and they have unlimited sale with your meal which is definitely a plus. I got there a bit late due to parking mishaps. So I got everything but the oyster and nothing was given to replace that one dish. The owners are super nice and are on top of the game and customer service . The highlights of the meal were the toro, wagyu, scallop and blue fin scoop. Some of the pieces had too much wasabi for me and one dish had too much finishing salt. But I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The dessert at the end really hit the spot and was a nice touch. I think I found the fresh sushi spot and I will return again to see Chef Yasu. One thing to note this is not your standard omakase with a sushi bar in front of a chef and mostly pieces, but this is a great chefs choice nonetheless.

My friend invited us to try this omakase spot after she and her husband dined here in January and were blown away by the menu--and now I see why! From the moment we were seated, I appreciated the thoughtful layout--it made it easy for the staff to serve each course and added to the overall flow of the experience. The ambiance is calm and welcoming, with a clean and relaxed vibe that instantly puts you at ease. The food was incredible. Each dish was not only beautifully presented--like individual works of art--but also thoughtfully crafted in both flavor and design. The mussel cappuccino soup was a standout right from the start. Every bite that followed was equally impressive: the fish was exceptionally fresh, the sauces were well-balanced and never masked the natural flavors, and the wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Even the plating felt intentional and elegant--each dish served on carefully selected ceramics that added to the visual experience. Every course was a delightful surprise, making the entire meal feel special from start to finish. Considering the overall quality, creativity, and presentation, I'd say the cost is more than fair for what you get--it's a great value for the level of culinary detail and care involved. Given that the chef is Japanese, I'll absolutely be coming back--and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable and high-quality omakase experience.

1st Course- Oyster with hibiscus granita. Tasty start

I was at this Japanese restaurant a couple nights ago with one of my groups. We took up 8 of the seats which is a pretty big portion of this reservation only omakase. The price is currently $90 + tax and tip which includes free sake and eventually Toki whiskey which is very reasonable for the number of courses and the quality overall. The staff here is friendly whether it is the Paraguayan guy explaining everything or the other staff. In terms of the sashimi, I would say that they are a bit heavy-handed with the sauce and the rice wasn't packed enough for one course but overall it was tasty with good quality fish. I remember most of the dishes but I'm a bit foggy with one or two of the later ones. Side note: A lot of the courses below depend on what comes in so you might get a pretty different menu from me but some of the courses apparently repeated (according to one of the other people) The first course was Oyster with hibiscus granita. The brininess of the large oyster mixed well with the sourness of the hibiscus The 2nd course was a Lobster Bouillabaisse. There wasn't much to the presentation but the soup had a very strong delicious shellfish flavor and aroma and a big portion of this with a bit of meat could have been the only appetizer in a non omakase place. The third course was one of their signatures. It was King Salmon/Sake/#鮭 with garlic chili, plum sauce, fried shallot, and hickory smoke. The salmon was buttery and tasty and the smoke flavor was light. The shallot at a good crunch and there was a little hint of spice. Tasty dish and probably my third favorite overall. The fourth course was Soft Shell Crab with pickled cucumber and cauliflower puree. The crab was fried and it was a nice light fry showcasing the sweetness and the puree was rich while the cucumber was refreshing. Also very tasty. The final appetizer was Kanpachi/間八/Great Amberjack with tomato and cucumber sorbet. The fish was rich and buttery with the cucumber sorbet adding some freshness while the tomatoes were sweet. This dish had a mix of textures and was probably my second favorite dish overall outside of their signature. For the remaining dishes, I will list them quickly without as much description unless necessary 6th: Asachi- Not sure and that name doesn't show up on any website. It was a red fish but I really remember much about the texture or flavor 7th. Suzuki/鱸/Sea Bass 8th Shima-aji/縞鯵/Striped Jack 9th: Isaki/伊佐木/Chicken grunt also known as Threeline Grunt- One of the rarer fish we were served and I've never had it before. Unique texture and very tasty 10th: Madai/真鯛/Red Sea Bream 11th: Harasu / King Salmon Belly- One of the only repeats 12th: Sawara /鰆/Spanish Mackerel with Black Truffle- Delicious 13th: Baby Marilyn- Hokkaido Scallop/Hotate/帆立貝, tobiko caviar, and eel sauce. Signature dish which is grilled at the table. I usually don't think that scallop needs much to add any flavor but this was outstanding and probably the best dish of the night. 14th: Chutoro/中トロ/Medium Fatty Tuna Belly 15th: Miyazaki A5 Wagyu/和牛- Similarly grilled at the table The staff asked afterwards if anyone was celebrating a birthday and one person was so after singing Happy Birthday, they gave us a slice of cake for dessert. It was from a local Polish bakery nearby and was essentially a chocolate cake with a berry filling kind of like a black forest but I think it was raspberry instead of cherry. Tasty. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. You don't go here for a traditional omakase but for a fun one. The quality of the fish was nice and it was a good mix of more common and rare cuts. The appetizers were a highlight along with the scallop but just about everything was delicious. Will go back.

One of the best dining experiences I've had so far. The vibes were super fun, and service was excellent. Each dish was served in a smooth and synchronized manner, like choreography. Usually at omakase places I could pinpoint a favorite dish. But here, each plate was better than the last. The oyster was such a great start to it, and the small plates that came after were inventive and outstanding. The rice they used for the nigiri had the perfect temperature and texture as well. There were three birthday celebrants during our seating so we had some cake! It was the perfect way to end the meal. They're also BYOB! Dunno for how much longer though. Will definitely be back.

    Navya J.

Wow!! This was one of the best omakase experiences I've had. Everything from the oysters to the nigiri and the dessert tasted spectacular. The vibe was super cool since it felt like an intimate speakeasy and you could tell that the chefs were highly talented and passionate about their craft. The smoked salmon was my fav part of the meal, along with the toro uni. I would definitely go back. - @nyconthetable

Really enjoyed my experience at U Omakase. We went for date night Friday night and managed to grab a 6pm seating. The staff was friendly and kept the sake pouring. We had brought a bottle of wine which they kept cold and made sure we were always topped off. The food was amazing and presented so beautifully. It felt like each piece was a work of art. The chef's tasting menu was just the perfect amount of food. We can't wait to come back.

Wonderful experience here for my birthday dinner. I have to preface this by saying that the day before I went here I also had omakase over on the West coast so was worried I would be sushi-ed out, but given the uniqueness of the flavors here, that was not the case at all (I shouldn't have been too worried though, because one can never have enough sushi). This is not your traditional omakase, so if you have had such an experience before, come open-minded. Every dish here, however, was delicious and unique. We went on a Sunday and it seems like that is the day where they are more experimental with some of their dishes. There were eight of us total and it's not a typical counter where they prepare each item in front of you. Everyone around the counter is served at the same time, more of a shared experience with the group, but I was into it! The owner explained each dish and was super friendly which only added to the experience. I quite enjoyed that the vibe was more casual, as sometimes omakase can be uptight. All the ingredients were very fresh and there were South American as well as French influences throughout. Highlights were the wagyu, clam soup, torched scallop, and toro (i think it was toro) topped with caviar. I believe it was around $90 per person and there is unlimited sake so especially for the price point, it's a steal. Given the price point I anticipate being back more soon than I'd like to admit.

I appreciated the rice:fish ratio on all the rolls, the rice was a thin layer letting the flavor of the other ingredients really come through. The plain spicy tuna roll on the other hand was filled with spicy tuna mixed with something crunchy - maybe puffed rice? It seemed to be an unnecessary filler, I would have preferred just fish. After our recent trip to Japan my husband and I were craving quality sushi and had read great…read morethings about Oita. Happy to say they were true and we will definitely be back! Above all, the fish quality and freshness is excellent and the nigiri felt especially authentic (not too much rice, sizable cuts of fish done in the traditional style). The akami and hamachi belly were particularly great. The toro scallion and king salmon crunch hand rolls were also favorites. Our opinions were more split on the spicy tuna crispy rice (I loved, husband was more lukewarm) and dumplings (obviously very freshly prepared but quite fried). The overall ambience is airy, quiet and calm and service was warm and fast. We would have loved to try the cocktails as they sound really interesting -- next time!

Beautiful space with fun sushi rolls in Park Slope!…read more The inside of the restaurant is very sleek and minimalist with nice wooden accents- very calming. The space is pretty large, with a good amount of tables in addition to bar seating. I split the tuna crispy rice and the signature roll set and it was plenty of food for two. The signature roll set had an assortment of interesting and unique rolls ranging from truffle to mango- my fave was the New York crunch w potato crisps on top. The tuna crispy rice was also a bit different- served as a tartare w crispy rice chips for dipping. Very crispy and tasty though! Service was super attentive and very welcoming. Definitely will be coming back if I'm in the area.
