I have also tried the Matsuri Sushi Deluxe and Chirashi and they are also decently priced and it's really fresh. I loved how they seasoned their sushi rice, it's perfect for me! Needed a quick before catching my train. Went to Matsuri! We ordered the Spicy Maki Combo, mango shrimp roll, shrimp tempura roll, and the Matsuri Ramen. The spicy maki combo was decent! I'm no fish expert (the 3 rolls all looked the same). But they all tasted fresh and had their distinct flavor. Very delicious. The mango shrimp roll and shrimp tempura roll were both good. Mango sauce was sweet and but not overpowering. Tempura was crispy and the sauce on top was good. The Matsuri ramen was average, broth didn't have much depth. Noodles okay, meat okay. I enjoy looking into sushi lunch specials, so I decided to try that of Matsuri for takeout. I ordered two 3 roll specials ($15.50 each) that come with miso soup or salad: chose the eel avocado, spicy tuna, yellowtail scallion, yellowtail scallion, spicy mango shrimp, and Alaska roll. The rolls don't have too much rice. I would only order the eel avocado and spicy mango shrimp again next time though. I was not a fan of the other rolls. Additionally, I ordered both the chicken and pork katsu bento box ($14 each), which comes with miso soup, salad, fried shumai, California roll, and rice. Oh my goodness! Thank goodness for Matsuri! This is a review for their takeout. It's across the street from the 61 St train station that serves the 7 train and LIRR. Situation: I needed food and the train that I needed was arriving in Woodside in 12 mins that day (or I would see the train pulling out the station). I explained that my train was leaving in 12 mins considering I need 2 minutes to run back up the stairs/escalator, it became 10 minutes. Matsuri delivered in 7 minutes considering I ordered agedashi tofu and sashimi deluxe. After ordering and paying, they said I could sit while I waited for the food to be ready. - The agedashi was piping hot and delicious. - The sashimi deluxe was decent. Came here on Sunday.. we got 5 alcoholic drinks, 1 soda, and 3 food items... I was still charged for a spicy tuna roll I sent back because it tasted literally awful. I have never sent back sushi before- I am not picky person who is looking for a discount and I have had sushi all over the world, literally. It was extremely salty. It was clearly bad. I was there tonight taking my Daughter and her Mother out for my Daughter's Birthday dinner and Wow! I was really impressed with this place. The food was delicious, the service was great and the atmosphere was comfortable and classy and very clean. A great variety of sushi and sashimi dishes on the menu. The portions are also really nice! The Matsuri Salad is excellent, lots of flavor and good mixture of ingredients. The service in this place is damned near instantaneous. I really enjoyed the sushi too. Let's face it - I'm more a Brooklyn diner but sometimes we have to venture outside of our comfort zone and tackle areas we would not normally try. Woodside is one that offers food for cheap and upside, it's also good! Matsuri is one of the places we go out of the way to go to for lunch. This is by no means the BEST sushi you're going to have ...BUT for the value and the quality you can't beat it. The inside is nothing over the top but the staff is lovely and the food never disappoints. We usually get the Maki Roll Lunch Special. You have a choice of soup or salad and any 2 Roll $10.75 or any 3 Roll $13.75. Their Hamachi Kama (aka collar) is great! If you have never had it, get it. It's one of my most favorite things to get at any Japanese restaurant that offers it. Additionally their grilled squid is great. I love that they don't over kill it with sauce but have some for you in case you kissed all of those Saturday morning "Don't drown your food" kidfommercials. This place is one you should try at least once. It's right off the 7 train (61st Street - Woodside) so it's easy to get to even without a car!
