**Delivery Review** In the mood for sushi and this popular spot delivers on Uber Eats. Solid menu with all the favorites at reasonable prices. Went a la carte by getting the Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll ($6.50), Shrimp Asparagus Roll ($6.25), Agedashi Tofu ($6.50), and Spicy Edamame ($7). Was worried on how the sushi would hold up during delivery, but was pleasantly surprised by the air tight packaging. Both rolls are held together well and served alongside wasabi, horseradish, and soy sauce. Good flavors and easily dunkable. Tofu is cut up into six large squares, sprinkled on top by dried shrimp. Not much taste coming from the tofu itself, needed a lot of help from side sauces. Edamame is as advertised, large portion topped by a spicy/tangy chili paste. Try this place randomly because we happen to be in the area and Japanese food sounds good (honestly, I can never think of a time when Japanese food is not a good idea). They have a lunch set (yay!) and though I don't usually go for vegan stuffs these days, I opted for the tofu teriyaki bento box because I craved it. The bento box comes with rice, the main dish, shumai (appetizer), 6pcs california roll, and miso soup. My friend had the salmon teriyaki bento box and we also shared a sushi roll to share (unfortunately I forgot the name). Overall, this place surprises me because it doesn't look like much at first, but they're actually pretty good--taste, price, service, quantity and quality of food, varieties of menu. Viking Roll (Eel, avocado, crunchy, topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and eel sauce) - Loved how clean this roll was. You can taste every component with perfect balance while everything still works very well as a whole. Sunny Flower Roll (Tuna, salmon, crunchy, topped with spicy scallop, tobiko, and scallion) - I am a sucker for spicy scallop, yet was still very impressed with how the chef gives such an ample portion while not allowing the slight heat to overpower the tuna or salmon. And that little pop of scallion? This is one of those "close your eyes and enjoy" rolls. Twin Tower Roll (Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, topped with black pepper tuna, Cajun salmon, scallion, and black tobiko) - This bad boy was the undisputed king of my order. Even if I get to make my way through new rolls, I will always put a Twin Tower in the bag. I have no clue how these chefs manage to compose all those spicy components in a way that doesn't result in the roll offering just one flavor. You get everything in every bite. Plus? This is one sexy roll to look at. Wow. Gyoza - They were gyoza... Chasu Bun - this was a miss for me. Great sushi spot in Woodside. We had a family dinner here even though it had a rocky reputation (when it first opened). They were tenacious enough to make it this long. The young sushi chefs behind the counter delivered great sushi and sashimi combos (I got the Matsuri combo) to the table as well as a few bento boxes. Next time, I want to try the toro lover combo if they have it (S.P.). All the entrees came with either free miso soup or salad. They like their radishes here. Overall, I feel the sushi was better than the cooked foods, but not by far. The beef kalbi was well seasoned and flavorful. The sushi pieces were a great size and the fish tasted good. Chasu bun: I prefer my pork buns to be pure belly and chasu is usually a dryer, leaner cut when I've had it, but I'm glad I gave this a try because it was very fatty! Dynamite Roll: tuna, salmon, avocado, kani, mayo. My go to roll, so delicious. Sandwich roll: too soft and sweet. It needs some texture, something more firm and crunchy. Spicy lovers roll: spicy tuna with crunch and spicy salmon with crunch, with avocado and spicy mayo. A bit too much crunch for me but delicious roll. Bakkafrost salmon tartar is also great quality and a nice portion. I'm not sure why this place gets such high reviews. While our delivery was prompt and the food looked good, the sushi was very disappointing. The rice in the rolls and the nigiri sushi was both undercooked and under seasoned. Undercooked to the point that we had to pick hard bits of rice out from our teeth. And the various spicy rolls were underwhelming in their flavor. It's not a good sign when your favorite dishes from a sushi place are the side salad and your kid's teriyaki. read more

I can see why this place has great reviews. It has been bookmarked on my Yelp for awhile now and I finally got to check it out on Valentine's day. I walk-in and wasn't sure if we had to wait as vday all restaurants are pretty busy. But we walk-in and see that it is fairly busy, but there was one empty table. Yes! Score! Fairly happy about this as I was getting hungry. Anyways, we ordered an appetizer, the tako su which has octopus sashimi, wasabi paste, scallion and ponzu sauce on it. Well done! Ooh fresh fish. I got the sashimi lunch special for my father. Definitely enjoyed his meal. I was going to get him poke initially but he doesn't care for toppings, so he gets more fish and less rice this way. I also ordered a few rolls. All really good. Good portion. I had a long commute so the shrimp tempura got a bit soggy but that's our fault. The spicy tuna roll was L's fav.. Forgot to take a pic. Ate the side salad later at night with my dinner, still fresh, crispy lettuce, I added cucumbers and some grapefruit. Got stuck in Woodside well past dinner and were looking for a sushi spot. This spot looked promising, so we ordered takeout. I got the tekka Don with veggie tempura and shishito peppers to start, and my friend got the shrimp hibachi. It might have been an oversight, but my friend's hibachi didn't come with any sauce. She said it was a bit under seasoned and really could have used it. Mine- well, the veggie tempura was good. The shishito peppers were spicy mush, and unfortunately despite looking good, the tuna tasted off- didn't eat much of that one. (Sushi rice also tasted overwhelmingly of vinegar.) The portion sizes were also quite small for the price. Maybe this was just an off night for them, but I would look elsewhere if I were in the neighborhood again. read more

This review is for take out only. I have not dined in at the restaurant thus can't comment on that. Overall I have been liking this place. I have been on a search for a reasonably priced sushi restaurant in Queens. This seems to fit the bill pretty well. The lunch menu is a pretty good deal. Note that the prices are slightly higher than the ones noted in previous menu photos, but given the situation right now I am happy to try to support restaurants and their employees as much as I can at this time. For the lunch menu I have really liked the sashimi sushi bar lunch. The cost is 13.5 at this time. You get three pieces each of 4 different varieties of fish. I think the sashimi one is probably a better deal than the chirashi one. You also get an option of miso soup or salad with it. Then from the lunch menu I have also tried the maki roll lunch which also comes with miso soup or salad. 2 rolls cost 9.75 and 3 rolls cost 12.75 at this time. When I have gotten the sashimi lunch plus the maki roll lunch I have gotten pretty filled up and sometimes would have leftover for later. The katsu lunch is okay but not amazing. The rock shrimp tempura is filling and pretty tasty. It isn't really spicy but the sauce is creamy and tasty. The truffle salmon from the sushi bar appetizer section: I didnt think the truffle complemented the seared salmon too much. Both the truffle and the seared salmon have very heavy flavors and the combination seems a bit too much. The salmon tartar from the sushi bar appetizer section: I thought this was a pretty great deal for the amount of salmon sashimi for 10. In terms of the special rolls, I like the twin tower roll a bit better than the amazing roll. I will definitely be ordering more from here. I look forward to trying more special rolls. read more

Why have I been sleeping on this spot?! I'll admit, I was skeptical because I don't associate good sushi with Woodside and its location being right by 61st Street stop makes it feel so gritty. My paranoid mind envisions the heaps of pigeon poop galore underneath the LIRR tracks and subway station somehow making its way into any food within a 300 foot radius... My dining mate tonight was NOT afflicted with such levels of paranoia, thankfully. So we wandered in here since he was in a sushi mood, as opposed to Thai, which I was set to show off (because Woodside). The menu is chock-full of well-photographed, tasty-looking dishes. Usually an overly expansive gives me pause because "jack-of-all trades, master of none." But, I was hungry enough to not give a damn. And even though I was tempted to order six course thinking with my stomach and not my wallet, I settled simply on a special rolls dish and an appealing sounding appetizer--the duck rolls. The duck rolls were fab! The duck was dressed with hoisin sauce and how I would expect Chinese style, but it was sandwiched with the fixins' you would find in Beijing ducks buns, but all wrapped up in a Mexican tortilla wrap! And the wrapped was stove-toasted too, as should, and so together, this app had just the right balance of flavors to give me nostalgia but also dance around as something a bit newer together. I was a fan, and feel like this could be a snack craving in the future. As for the main course, I ordered the Twin Towers Roll, which was also fabulous. Great tasting fish and fairly spicy, along with the gobs of wasabi I ate it with. My mouth was burning pleasantly, and it was surprising! I was not expecting the rolls to be so good! My cocktail was also great too. I should hope so, because it took a solid 15 minutes before it came out. Though sadly they don't seem to offer any happy hour deals, the drinks were satisfying while still being affordable at full price. With such a good meal through course two, course three had to follow, naturally. (Particularly when you see the array of interesting looking desserts they have.) I was undecided between my good 'ol favorite of creme brulee or tart with berried fruits and the small but indulgent looking bomba. I went with the strawberry-pistachio-chocolate gelato bomba, and it was SUCH a great choice. It was exactly what I wanted, and even the $6 size last QUITE some time. Overall, I feel I got great value for the taste and the attentiveness/friendliness of the service. The restaurant is spacious, good air circulation and all. They have a big menu with great selection and there's a small bar for drinkers too. We had the octopus salad and appetizer shrimp to start with. Loved the octopus salad! I don't care for the shrimp because it's coated with flour. I tried anyway. The taste was good. Then I had a plate of Hamachi Kama for dinner, another friend got a medium sized sashimi plate and another got a big sushi plate. I wanted a cooked food that day although sashimi is my favorite of all time. I tried some of the sashimi and sushi from my friends' plates. Not bad at all. Our table shared a Chardonnay too. We didn't overeat and everything we had was light, nice! I liked! Since one of my friends lives in Woodside, she's been to this place a few times. All the people that have posted negative reviews were posted either more than 3 years ago, posted from people who expect more out their 1 dimensional orders (how are you going to expect more out of a California, it is meant to be basic roll with a flavor profile that doesn't vary much and these people have it spot on), or sadly dinned in on one of Matsuri's rare off days. The reality is that this place, though small, can bring about a abundance of excellent servers who are ready to attend once you set foot inside the restaurant. They stay alert and aware even if there is just one waitress/waiter for the whole place. They ensure the removal of rubbish and the visible cleanliness at all times. They become available and attend to your questions and needs professionally and politely. The food is second to none. Ever since my girlfriend and I decided to pull the trigger and go inside, it has never disappointed. The ingredients are always fresh and maintain a clear and romantic essence to them. Every item in the menu is served with the attention to detail, from the irresistible umami flavor inside the ramen, to the textures contrasts that satisfy one's senses when taking a bit. You really can't go wrong with any time with highlights being the Spicy Lover's Roll, Tako Su, Veggie Gyoza and the Matsuri Ramen. You are really paying for the quality that these guys bring to the table and the experience that does not fail to deliver. If you are looking for take out, don't do it UNLESS you really can't make it to their location. I don't say it because their take out is horrible, on the contrary never had a bad experience and the taste continues to stay strong all the way to your home. I say it because if you order take out, you would be missing out on the experience that comes with this place. Matsuri is one of those rare whole package deal that should be experienced the right way. Matsuri is a step up from the usual neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Their decor is very warm and chic. They have a wide variety of dishes and appetizers and they lunch specials are a great deal. The lunch bentos are $10 which includes salad with delicious ginger dressing, two pieces of shumai, California roll, a very flavorful miso soup, rice and your choice of proteins. They even offer ribs and salmon with no additional charge. All this comes in a cute bento plate and everything was delicious. Next time I would like to try some of their more unique dishes like grilled squid and salmon tartare. They even have uni and o-toro sushi. Came here on a Saturday evening. It was a cloudy, humid, hot day so not many people were outside. The restaurant was pretty empty but I assume it would get packed on a better day especially since it's located in a great spot by the train station. As soon as I entered I was seated and staff was extremely attentive throughout my visit. I ordered a couple of dishes and my friend ordered two sushi rolls. We were both very hungry and wanted to eat some japanese food for dinner. The miso soup came out first and it was pretty good! I downed it in a minute or two. The fried calamari came out next with a side of sweet chili sauce. Very tasty. My salmon avocado roll came out after that and tasted fresh. Finally, the main course, chicken katsu came out with a bowl of rice. This dish is very yummy. It actually made me really full. I think this entrée alone can fill someone up. The restaurant is conveniently located underneath the 7 line and the LIRR at the 61st Street - Woodside station. I live about a 10 minute walk away so I will definitely return in the future. I can't believe I haven't written about Matsuri yet. This place is my local favorite. This restaurant is a great place to get your Japanese/sushi fix in Woodside. They have such a large variety of different Japanese cuisines on their menu, there's always something for everyone. My family is slightly picky when it comes to food, but they always want to dine at Matsuri whenever possible. Each person has a particular preference and so our table usually has a bit of everything: from sashimi, to sushi, from bento boxes to udon dishes, to rice dishes, and etc. Our favorite appetizer to share is their Spicy Kani Salad. It's not spicy, which I like, but the dressing on it is amazing. It tastes a bit like mango and yuzu and it has a bit of tempura and tobiko for texture. We, as a family, have probably tried everything on the menu at Matsuri and I haven't had a bad experience there yet. And as always, the service is top notch.
