I had a terrible experience with my takeout order. All the dishes I got: Salmon don (slices of salmon sashimi over a bed of rice), Marinated Tako (slices of octopus), Salmon Teriyaki bento. I ate the bento, and few pieces of the salmon and they were alright. For the salmon don, it was weird balance of salmon to rice ratio. I didn't enjoy the dish because I felt like there was too much rice. The salmon teriyaki was just alright- on the drier side. The real bad: I also decided to treat myself to an ikura and avocado handroll. I should've smelled my food before tasting it. I took a big bite, and within seconds the smell and taste hit me, and I had to throw up. It was spoiled ikura and i took another whiff and definitely confirmed the putrid smell. I was so scarred, I could not eat anymore. Later that night, I felt really sick. Moral of the story: smell your food before you eat something. read more

This is a nice small takeout sushi place in the neighborhood. Nothing super fancy here. Even before Covid there were only about 4-5 tables. The staff there are usually nice, if not a bit reserved. My wife who is not Asian wished them a happy (Lunar) new year and the workers (a husband and wife team, so likely the owners) perked up. We've always gotten good quality from what we've ordered. I'm a fan of their box combos which used to include a California roll and tempura. Unfortunately, it looks like you can only choose one of three options as the main side: Cali roll, tempura, or shumai. I imagine this pandemic has affected their business. It still includes salad and miso soup. Both are fine. As for the sushi dishes, we've never had an issue of the food not being fresh or of making us sick. The menu is so extensive today I picked two sushi (1) firecracker roll which included tuna, crunch, eel sauce, spicy mayo, shrimp tempura, crabmeat, cucumber, avocado; (2) HEART ATTACK: spicy salmon, spicy mayo sauce with soft shell crab and spicy tuna and avocado. Both choices were delicious, great presentation! The service was excellent ! Due to COVID19 there is no indoor dining but you can order ahead and pick up or order while you are outside the restaurant and then go around the neighborhood while you wait for your order. When the munchies grabbed ahold of us late one night, we desperately scoured Yelp, looking for a place to grab a bite. It seemed like this place was the only one in the area that was open but when my fiancé saw the lone dollar sign next to the accompanied 'sushi bar' label, he was wary. "Um...cheap sushi usually means bad sushi," he warned, already looking for other alternatives. Unfortunately, everything else was closed and fatal hunger eventually overtook suspicion. We're so glad it did. Two blocks off of the busy Queens Boulevard, Sushi 33 sits tucked away on a quieter street. Its diminutive size (there are about six tables in the small space, tops) and bare decor make it all the more unassuming, but they rock those low prices like no other sushi joint I've ever seen. We ordered solely from their roll menu, none of which were more than $3.75, but our eyes widened as we perused the other pages, especially the tempura platters and sushi combos, which were also decently priced. Special rolls like spider rolls and others with fun names like Heart Attack (soft shell crab, spicy tuna, and avocado on the inside; spicy salmon, spicy mayo, and eel sauce on the outside) are understandably a little more expensive, but still very reasonable. Sushi and sashimi a la carte items are sold by the piece, and each are only a dollar. We ordered a mango salmon roll, sweet potato rolls, and something called the A.A.C roll, which had asparagus, avocado, and cucumber. We liked all three and particularly loved the sweet potato roll, which says that it's precooked on the menu but seemed surprisingly warm when we chowed down. Some of the pieces seemed more tempera than sweet potato, but for $3.25, I was happy. The service was prompt, friendly, and it was nice to be able to see the chef freshly preparing our rolls right at the sushi bar. Best of all, we were able to enjoy a decent sushi meal for two for around $13, which I consider an amazing deal. The restaurant seemed clean and the ingredients fresh. I'm terribly glad we have a place like this in the neighborhood, and because it's open until 11 at night, we'll be sure to come by again when the late night tummy rumbles strike again. When my boyfriend and I don't feel like splurging a little more on diining but still want sushi/sashimi, this is our go to spot because it's right in our neighborhood. A sushi boat - quantity sashimi order only runs you around $20 (sometimes less) and it comes with soup and salad as well. Since the restaurant is pretty small, the staff are attentive and your order also comes fast. While I can't say that it's the freshest or best sushi I've ever had, it is definitely decent for it's price. Dined in and I would say the most this place can sit is 12-16 people(Not comfortably) The restaurant is tiny, but I suppose most of their business is from take out. So for cheap sushi around the Rego Mall area, I'd say this would be a pretty good choice for a quick fix, but the small sized restaurant and the lack of seats are a turn off. ____________________ Edit: My friend orders take out from here all the time. The restaurant itself looks like your average NYC Chinese restaurant but it's cozy inside with Japanese emblems and artifacts. The sushi is made right at the front counter and the place is clean. My boyfriend ordered the salmon skin roll and tuna roll and they were able to substitute the tuna for a spicy tuna roll. For $5.15 it comes with miso soup and salad. Not bad. The rolls were good, nothing spectacular although we felt that there wasn't much rice on the sushi roll like some other places. Me of course as a lover of fried chicken ordered the lunch special chicken kara-age with shumai.
