This is their sushi deluxe for $39: 9 pieces of nigiri, a tuna roll, and miso soup. And honestly, there's nothing special about it whatsoever. Is it bad? No. But the presentation is weak, the salmon and tuna look mediocre, and the fish doesn't exactly scream peak freshness. The roll was stuffed but not even sealed properly, and the nigiri almost tasted like plain white rice -- no real seasoning. Just... flat. Nothing outstanding, nothing memorable. In a city with so many options, Sushi Ren doesn't give you a reason to come back. C-. For more NYC sushi reviews, follow The Raw Report on TikTok.

Great happy hour specials BOGO beers with ice cold frozen mugs. Service is a bit slow but if you're not in a rush it's a great place to sit outside

The food here is amazing, the lunch special is where it's at. You get buy 1 get 1 beers, the sushi portion is huge as they focus on more fish and less rice. I also got the pork gyoza for an extra $5. Honestly... it's a great meal and I would recommend more people stop by and give this place a try! The service was great and fast the food came out quickly. In addition, it's a chill place, quiet but good!

truly never had more filling sushi in my life. each roll was STUFFED, and the ratio of filling to rice was absolutely beautiful. after 2 rolls, I can say this was definitely worth $20. if I were to go back, I'd opt for the spicy crab roll. it was superior to the tuna and shrimp. restaurant was pretty full with others from 6:30 to when we left. seems like a very lowkey place that does not lack in quality. played very minimal music and had large tvs. waiters are so so happy and kind -- and made sure to refill water so often!

We ordered the Kobe Pockets and they were sooo tasty! I would come back just to have them again. The salad that came with the udon order was also very delicious; the carrot ginger dressing was so light and refreshing! No pictures because we were so hungry

This is my go to sushi place in the upper east side. I can not get enough of the 1) spicy tuna and 2) spicy salmon. literally the best spicy tuna i've had! please try! the service is also amazing. the most place i've visited in nyc

If you're looking for good Japanese food along 2nd Ave. in the 80's this restaurant is worth going to. The prices are reasonable, the portions are good & the staff is friendly. The restaurant is tastefully decorated & quiet & great for couples or groups, lunch & early or late dinner. The food comes out reasonably quick & is delicious. The restaurant has a full bar as well & has take out. In the back there's also a separate sushi bar. You'll definitely enjoy eating here & may end up taking home a doggy bag!

Sushi Ren is a Japanese restaurant which as the name implies specializes in Sushi. Me and my girlfriend shared a lot of delicious rolls Mango Shrimp Roll Spicy Scallop Roll Spider Roll - Crab, Cucumber, Spicy Mayo Twin Salmon - Avocado The Sushi tasted delicious and fresh! I enjoyed especially the Spider Roll which I don't have too often.

Let me just start by saying, this place is AMAZING! My parents moved to the area this past summer, and every time I've come to visit them, I've walked past this place but had never gotten to try it. Tonight, I had a friend come in from Jersey and I finally got to try it. When we first walked in, it was so peaceful. It's quiet and everyone keeps to themselves. The waitress was exceptionally friendly and attentive. And last but not least, the FOOD! My salad and sushi were both amazing, the green tea was smooth and refreshing, and the fried rice was easily some of the best I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and go to this restaurant. Tell your family and friends about it. Will definitely be coming back!

Must try: Lunch Sushi & Sashimi Specials! Why: Fresh and delicious sushi rolls and sashimi. Rolls were big and filling with lots of fish and avocado or cucumber. Sashimi variety was really good too. Lunch specials also came with Miso Soup and Salad. Good pricing for lunch specials. Notes: Restaurant is big and spacious with outdoor seating options. I ordered takeout and as I waited they gave me water. They did accidentally give me the wrong takeout order; however, they were super nice and apologized. They even offered me another drink when I came back to get the correct order. I look forward to trying more from their menu next time!

Was walking in the area with my mom and passed by on the way to a bakery, but good thing we turned back. One of the staff members opened the door for us. It's wheelchair accessible. Attentive and helpful staff. Great first impression of the place - garden decor, chandeliers/ambient lighting. Got the Creme Anglaise souffle pancakes - with fresh fruits, very light and fluffy, not too sweet. Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.
