They have incredibly fresh sushi. We tried the truffle roll per recommendation here. It was such a delight with the crispy topping. I would order this again. I like that the spicy tuna rolls don't have ground tuna (like other places) but rather small pieces mixed with the spicy sauce. It lent itself to a more buttery taste in my opinion. Also tried the rainbow roll and the other rolls that came with the Spicy box set. The rolls were smaller than I was expecting so I'm glad we ordered an extra salmon roll. One note - the acoustics of the room are not great for a large Friday night crowd. It was so loud that my ears started to hurt and I could not hear the conversation with my guest. Unfortunately this had a big impact on the experience but I'm hopeful for a visit during a less busy time. Restaurant is BYOB, cash only and takeout orders are 8% off.
Tuna and Salmon Bomb were absolutely incredible and were off the menu items. All 3 of the rolls after were pretty disappointing after being amazed by the bombs. BOYB with no corking fee.
Quaint no frills neighborhood spot offering well executed fare with fresh ingredients. This spot does qualify as a hidden gem as it is tucked away on a quiet upper east side block. It is often full of UES locals and almost seems to lean into this role as a staple for return customers - it is BYOB, cash only, and even has hidden menu items. The staff are especially friendly with return customers and I even get the sense they try and pair you with the same waiter when possible. All of the standard rolls and pieces are excellent and consistently good. This is the UES answer to UWS's Sushi Yasaka. You MUST order 1 of each of the tuna bomb and salmon bomb (not listed on the menu) which are basically spicy crab with tempura crunch wrapped in a thin layer of the respective fish. The flavor and texture are unreal. Another MUST order is the mexican roll (not overkill on the truffle) and the agedashi tofu (incredibly crisp). The tuna bomb roll is amazing but relatively expensive and redundant if you order the off-the-menu appetizer. I will also warn you that the oysters on the menu are an illusion as they are never in stock! I am surprised by some of the negative reviews here but I think this place is more suited to locals who know what to expect. I have since moved out of the neighborhood but will definitely stop in next time I am nearby.

I am a regular customer (as proven by the merch I own lol) and I have ALWAYS had an amazing meal with the most kind waitstaff and service in Manhattan. Cash only, BYOB, no reservations-- and the place is filled each night, so you know it's truly a treasure in the UES. Here's a list of my and my friend's most fave rolls: *Tuna Bomb (record is for 8 in one order, off menu item that is fresh tuna wrapped around a crispy kind a rice mixture??!) *Salmon Bomb (same same but different than above) *Truffle roll (what put Poke on the map!) *Kani Kama (so fresh) *Kamikaze (so clean) *Xmas (so creative) *Jackfish (ft Truffle oil) *Toro Scallion *Rainbow (good mixture of fish) *Crispy rice ++the fact that this is all from memory is a little concerning??++
Very busy restaurant on a Friday night, lots of people waiting and they definitely packed us in. The sushi was delicious. Unique options like the truffle roll. It's a byo spot which is fun! My one complaint would be the size of the roll, they are a bit smaller than the standard roll and still the same price if not even more expensive.
HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!! CASH ONLY BYOB - liquor/wine shop within stones throw Don't waste your time getting sushi anywhere else on the UES. This place delivers and makes you feel like you're a local, because it's in between avenues. My recommendations: (everything) Seaweed salad Gyoza Shumai Rolls: truffle roll, red dragon (we got 3 others and can't remember the names but they were all great. Also, their rolls aren't overly big and can actually be eaten in a bite. So this place is first date night approved!!) Total bill was 96 bucks!!! And we left feeling perfectly full. Overall, this is a must go to on UES. Try just walking in. We did and we sat down immediately (note it was a Wednesday).
BYOB and cash only! They get super busy so please account for that. They have a wide variety of sushi and sashimi. Very catch up with your friends kinda place. Started with the spicy miso soup. It was spot on. Flavorful and spicy :) The pork gyozas were pretty standard. Unagi didn't disappoint. Came with this soy based sauce on top that was very complementing We tried their poke, dynamite, spicy spider and spicy salmon rolls. Everything was pretty good. Nothing to dissect and say really. I fell off the wagon and ordered a friend green tea tempura ice cream- brilliantly executed This is not a cheap place btw - I know byob and cash sounds like that- but it's a decently pricey place.
This Japanese restaurant is my favorite on the upper eat side. Perfect with friends or family. BYOB and the service is fast. Good value for money. I've been coming here for 6 years and have never been disappointed. My favorite dishes are the TunaBomb and the sushi toro! delicious! highly recommend!
We love this place and have been coming here for the last 5 years. The menu is exquisite and from the apps to the rolls, there is always something to please all guests. We love their yellow fin tartare, gyoza (always cooked perfectly with one cripsy side and a well balanced dipping sauce), tuna bomb (Yum!), Tuna Tataki with peppercorns and of course the rolls and sushi pieces (ikura is a must). Their fish is always fresh, buttery and has been consistently good. This place is the best around this area. The rolls are perfectly balanced between rice, fish and veggies. These are not chunky rice rolls where you get mostly rice - these rolls are all about umami, quality over quantity and the price is fair. Also BYOB, why hello! Lots of fun and the service crew are all awesome, always smiley, polite and they know their clients. A must when in Upper East Side.
TLDR: Great quality but small portion sushi, and CASH ONLY I'm really glad I stumbled upon this sushi spot in the UES. The menu has a good variety of apps, hand or simple rolls, and specialty rolls. I came super hungry and order 5 rolls (3 specialty and 2 simple) between 2 people. The food was amazing. But honestly, I could have eaten a lot more. Here's what we got: - Yellow Tail Scallion: This was fine, no strong flavor. Wouldn't order again - Toro Scallion: I'm a big fan of Toro and this was super soft and tasty - Manhattan: This was my least favorite roll. It's half salmon topped and half tuna topped, but I didn't think there was any special flavor - Spicy Spider: Super tasty with the tempura crab - Truffle: The waiter recommend we try this if we haven't before. The truffle flavor was super subtle but it was definitely tasty I really liked the food here and would be happy to come back. The only catch is the portions are super small, so while the prices per roll are reasonable, you end up having to order more than you would other places so the prices aren't as reasonable as they seem off the bat. There is seating available both inside and outside. Last thing to note that knocked this experience 1-star: my group was super disappointed that the staff did not inform us until the bill came that it was cash only. It is pretty rare for a white table cloth sit-down place in NYC doesn't take card, and in those cases, I have always been proactively warned when sitting. We had to run to the bank to pull out cash, not ideal.

Sushi is so fresh!! Wow! Great service. You can bring 1 btl of wine for 2 people, no liquor or 2 bottles for 4 people. Can't wait to come back! Also, cash only and there is no ATM in the restaurant. read more

I was expecting it to be a lot better. Sushi was decent - typical sushi spot, nothing too special. Only thing is portions of the sushi rolls were a lot smaller than I thought it'd be for the prices. We ended up ordering a second round of sushi cause it wasn't enough for everyone. Plenty of tables inside as well as outdoor seating. No wait when I went around 5:30pm. Food all came out super quick. read more

Ordered several rolls for takeout. Waited about 30 minutes for the food on a Saturday at around 7pm. Food tasted good, fresh and light. Employees were nice. My only complaint is the difference in prices on their online menu and their current eat-in menu. Management has to update the website for sure. read more
Caveat - Cash only restaurant, and it's a BYOB. There is a limit, you can only have 1 750ml bottle per 2 people. On the recommendation by the waitress, my friend and I ordered a sashimi deluxe platter and 2 rolls. it was good and filling. The sashimi were all fresh tasting - each fish came with 2 thick pieces. Honestly i forget which ones we tried, but best piece was the toro or fatty tuna. Yeahhhh. Their special rolls arent that big but they do pack a flavor punch. We got the truffle roll and the spicy spider. The truffle roll was recommended by the waiter as being the most popular one. You can taste a very very subtle hint of truffle oil when the piece first touches your tongue, but then it instantly goes away as you chew. The spicy spider wasn't that spicy but the fried crab was yummy. Overall, i liked this place for an UES local sushi restaurant. I wasn't wow'd, but I wasn't disappointed. The service was nice. My friend and I brought 2 i'd say 22oz beer bottles, and they put 1 in the fridge while we drank our 1st one, and then they quickly brought out the other when we were done with the 1st one. That's pretty nice of them. For the price i paid tho for the sashimi deluxe, i expected a bowl of rice and some soup/salad. Nope. got none of that....oh well. read more

Best Japanese restaurant! Very nice stuff. Connoisseurs of this cuisine will understand that everything is fine here ... fish and its varieties. Can you come with your alcohol. The only negative is paying in cash ... hey guys ... keep up with the times - credit cards !!!! read more

Coming from Florida, a BYOB restaurant is unheard of. When my brother told me about it, I was ecstatic about this unique feature. The menu at Poke is very simple and straightforward. There are not any pictures so you don't really get a feel for how big each roll is. I'd recommend starting off small and placing additional orders if you still have room in your stomach. Prices are typical New York prices so I wasn't expecting to see any rolls in the single digits. Our favorites were the Spicy Spider and Manhattan special rolls. Both were incredibly delicious that we had to get a second round of them! Speaking of rounds, I didn't forget about the BYOB part of this restaurant. They do have a limit of alcohol so don't walk in thinking that this is a house party. We gotta be a bit sophisticated, alright? read more

POKE is awesome! Located in the UES and BYOB! No cork fee for our 1 bottle of wine :) The sushi was on the smaller side but still very tasty and affordable (you may just have to order a couple appetizers and/or multiple specialty rolls). Golden 8 pieces) was good, it had fresh tasting salmon on the outside with a spicy mayo drizzle and the inside was a crab mix. Even better was the Volcano roll (6 pieces) with fried calamari on the inside! It was perfectly chewy and large pieces! The California hand roll was basic but still good. The shumai (like a mini version of a dumpling) was really good too, I'm not sure if it was shrimp filling or another seafood but it was very mild tasting and delicious. The red bean mochi ice cream was my fave! It was smooth and sweet and the rice that enveloped the ice cream was textured and unique. It looked cute too! read more

This place is a rip-off. Portion is tiny. I post a picture of what I ordered. $15 Ninja roll and $12.5 Kamikaze roll came in a small box. Tuna pizza is basically scallion pancake with a thin slice of tuna. Not sure how they manage to get so many good reviews. read more

Just skip this place please!! I've wanted to try it out for a while cause it's usually busy and have read decent things about it but BOY do I feel like a fool. (I really wanted to like this place, I eat a lot of sushi) The biggest issue is the portion size. It's all TEENY-TINY sized dishes. I ended up ordering a third sushi dish and a side of rice after the my first two sushi dishes, a salad and a appetizer left me still hungry. I am a pretty small person who really never eats very much and most places hardly finishes a meal so for me to leave hungry after ordering a second round of food was just ridiculous. In concept the prices seem pretty fair based on comparable places but when you factor in how many dishes you have to order to feel even remotely full this place carries a large price tag. (Way more than two obey signs!!) I ordered the seaweed salad which is $5.50 and was blown away what they served me (see photo). I considered sending it back it was such a joke but I really hate to do that at a restaurant and waste food. The fish quality is really low! The fish on my salmon sushi was very warm and tasted as if it had been sitting out for a while. The yellow tail that I got was just the same, had no flavor and was mushy. The restaurant was more than half empty when I walked in around 5:30 and was about the same when I left. But I was rushed from the moment I sat down. Three different people tried to take my order when I had already and I needed more time to a fourth. Save your sushi cravings and cash for Sashimi Ramen Express on 78th. Poke pails in comparison to that place by a long shot. read more

This popular Upper East Side trendy sushi spot is fun and unique. Different from other sushi spots that feel dated, Poke is great for a variety of unique sushi, with a lively and friendly sushi bar staff. It's also BYOB for wine! But also cash only! As a non-sushi eater there isnt THAT much to get but I order the crispy spicy chicken, which is incredibly unique and delicious. Pros: good food, good for dates, feels trendy, BYOB Cons: cash only, limited non-sushi menu, loud Fun tip: sit at the sushi bar read more
