If you want to feel like you're in Paris in Omaha, this is your spot. They had lovely French music playing in the background, and the restaurant was dimly light with candles and interesting artwork. We had a party of 8 and went here on New Year's Eve. The service was fantastic, and they had a lovely prefixed menu with four courses. If the short ribs were not over salted, this would have been a 4 star review. read more

Very creative menu. I had the rabbit and it was delicious. Wife had the trout and loved it.

Each time I visit, I have the best time. My most recent visit last weekend was no exception. I love the wine. I love sitting at the bar and talking to the bartenders about the wine. I always meet someone also sitting at the bar who enjoys the wine. (Gotta love Omaha.) Last visit I tried the charcuterie and cheese. Oh. My. Cheese. That was my literal reaction. Infact, my reaction was noted by the manager (I'm assuming it was the manager) that he brought me two additional pieces of significant size to enjoy. That made my day! My fave wines so far: Raisins Gaulois and El Pedrosal. Interestingly a Spanish wine in a French restaurant! read more

When in the old market district you have choices! If you want Oysters maybe there is other places, but I suspect they will do no better job then Here. Properly shucked and presented. Excellent accouterments. No prosecco but decent brut and sparkies on the list. Do have the arugula salad(light on the dressing). Fresh fish comes every Wednesday!! And maybe Friday as well. read more

The oysters! The best in Omaha. That might be damning with faint praise, but Shucks has very good oysters. We have jets flying to Omaha these days so it is about the source. Beautiful presentation in a bed of ice. Two fabulous sauces. Just the right amount of saltiness. And the juice was to die for. Best chicken in Omaha that is not fried. Very tasty and not bland. There may be something to this local thing. The chef got the skin crispy in a clever way. I could have eaten two of them. The next Janet Yellen celebrated her birthday with a cassoulet reminiscent of her student days in Paris. A nice chocolate cake to top off the meal. Not sure why Sam Mercer's water colors are on the wall. Not really French. And get rid of that sculpture and add a table or two in that space. &&&&&& The following is no criticism of Le Bouillon as we experienced the exact same problem at the Wicked Rabbit and Mercury. It is a warning for those similarly situated and it is my rant against the legal formalism of the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. Yellen's new driver's license had not yet arrived by mail from Lincoln but she had proof that she was 21 and her identity. I would have sworn out an affidavit - on personal knowledge - as to her date of birth. The mere fact that her license was expired barred her from drinking. She was there to drink, not to drive. I was driving. Three figure wine sale lost. This is a crazy NLCC rule. Substance over form! What would former Nebraska and Harvard Law School Dean Roscoe Pound say? He would cite Charles Dickens and say, "The law is an ass." This NLCC rule is nutty and entirely unforeseeable; even to the likes of Yale-educated lawyers like the late Sam Mercer. But forewarned is forearmed. read more

This is a great spot to nurture my need for some good French food. I have been here a handful of times and am always so pleased with the great service and splendid food. I do remember last year they had a special on my birthday of a fois gras ravioli and it was the best dish I can remember ever eating. I am always a little sad when j return and they do not have it, but I am always pleased by the selection. I have a 10 year old son and he loves the chicken and crepes. I would recommend making this a regular stop for a nice meal and night in the town... or lunch. Side note: they had great meals and things to order in their website when we were in lockdown and i hope they keep this up as we had a beautiful lamb lunch on Easter that will always be a wonderful memory amidst our 2020 lockdown. read more

On a recent visit to Omaha, I googled farm to table restaurants in the area. This caught my eye. When I arrived at 6:30 on a Tuesday evening I was surprised to see that there was only 1 other party in the restaurant. Although later another couple was seated. My server took my order quickly and brought my salad promptly to my table. Before I could finish my salad they attempted to serve my entrée. They took the entrée back to the kitchen to keep warm. Later when they brought the entrée out it was lukewarm. I had ordered the salmon entree. I was surprised how small the portion was considering it was $25. It tasted OK maybe a bit undercooked. Nothing very special.I also ordered the crème brûlée for dessert and it was excellent. I felt the pace of the dinner was rather rushed. I was out of the restaurant in less than an hour. The restaurant is fashionably chic and has a bistro feel to it. I might give it a second try if I'm in the area again but order something else. It did have very favorable reviews - maybe it was an off night for them. read more

Love the patio seating very cool vibe great food I will defiantly be back I just love it

I never tried The French Cafe before it closed but I doubt it came close to the meal I had at Le Bouillon and the menu that took over. If you've ever eaten at the Boiler Room, you know that chef Paul Kulik's meals are incredible. The menu at Le Bouillon took French comfort to a level I didn't know possible. Three of us decided to just eat family style. I recommend this to everyone. We started with toast appetizers. One featuring rock shrimp, the other a rabbit rillette. This was followed quickly by a double helping of magnificent charcuterie of red wine salami and one of the most delicious chicken liver mousse plates I've ever tried (the extra addition of duck fat and pickled fennel brought this dish to another level). For our meal, duck cassoulet (you'll want to eat it all yourself) and skirt steak cooked beautifully. And I'm not kidding, it was absolutely delicious yet still my least favorite part of the whole dinner. To top this off, a slice of Gateau Basque. Part cake. Part pie. All amazing fillies with almond paste and dried cherries. It's a must. That and a bottle of wine for the table and for three people the entire excursion was just over $100. WINNER!! read more

I had a terrific experience her at LeBouillon. I was treated to great food and awesome company. I should have splurged and tried some of the selection of wines they have, but that's going to be next time. The men's restroom smelled so foul I cannot describe it in words. The fried rabbit tasted like and overcooked piece of fried chicken that cost $36. Service was ok. Our experience at Le Bouillon was great. If I lived in Omaha I would visit Le Bouillon regularly. We were in town to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, & we stayed at a hotel a short walk away in old market, so Le Bouillon worked perfectly for us. Everything about our night was marvelous: staff, drinks, food, dessert, atmosphere, etc. The recommendations & descriptions from the host & server about drinks & food were very useful. They steered us to some tasty options that worked great for our preferences. Their toasts are wonderful (we had a shrimp toast & tomato toast). We had A LOT of other dishes, sorry I can't remember it all. I do remember that I had a tasty sausage/duck/bean/stew whatnot in a cast iron pot. She had the bistro steak & was very happy with that. My dessert was a cake of sorts made with almond flour. I don't remember it's name, but I remember loving it. Like I said, there were a few others dishes I can't remember the names of (note to self: WRITE THEM DOWN NEXT TIME), but they were all great. The meal was worth every penny. We can't wait to go back. read more

With my ever expanding stays in Omaha for work I always am looking for new (to me) places to try. Old market has been the area that I have been spending much more of my time. There are close hotels and plenty of good restaurants. This time I tried this place. I sat outside and enjoyed what I thought would be one of the last nice days of the year. I started with a Manhattan as the work day seemed to make me feel like I needed one. Nicely made, and not too heavy on the vermouth. Then I went for the Cassoulet. Full of bacon, pork, sausage, and beans. An extremely hearty meal to keep me warm with the cool breeze. This place will be on my radar for 2016 as I will most likely be in Omaha monthly. read more

Loved the place the moment I walked in as it has a certain charm with pretty lights and beautiful artwork. I went for a glass of red and then an entree of sword fish cooked pretty damn neat. The menu is small but savory. Definitely a fancy place for Omaha standards. I enjoyed the dinner here. The service was prompt and courteous and we also had the coat check option. I also like the salad options but didn't try it. Maybe next time when I am here. read more

This is such a gorgeous gem of a restaurant. Please, Omaha, come here and support this place. This visit I sat outside and enjoyed a perfect 70 degree evening, a half block away from my hotel ( Embassy Suites). Service: Excellent. The wait staff remind me of what you get in Portland which frankly is really saying something because that is a foodie city bar non. The server was very knowledgable and steered me towards just the right wine. Wine: The list is heavy on the French wines of course, and I wish they had a few more by the glass, but overall a nice assortment. I asked if they had a Chablis, which they did not, but the Muscadet was a fine alternative and still gave the crispness and minerality I was after. Dinner: Started with a peekytoe crab salad which came with grilled bread. It was sweet pieces of crab atop a chilled potato purée to spread on the toast with a very light dressing. Delicious. Followed by roasted chicken with kale and potatoes gratin. The chicken was perfectly cooked with an awesome crispy skin and light sauce. I've been here a few times now and am always delighted with my whole experience. This time on the patio I could hear some sort of street performer singing on the patio who was a bit annoying- but as that is completely out of control of this institution I couldn't really complain to them about that. First amendment and all that. Really though. This is seriously good food inserted in a gracious but unpretentious atmosphere. It's a fav!! read more

I'm normally a decisive individual, but find myself on the fence regarding Le Bouillon. You'll want to form your own opinion about price vs. value, and you'll definitely need to form your own opinion about the art. We opted to sit at the bar, despite the availability of tables. Our bartender was friendly, a bit chatty even, and more than willing to serve a side of menu recommendations with each beverage he poured (house cocktail $9, aperol spritz $7, wine $10, coffee $5). We opted to start with the spicy salami charcuterie board ($9) which featured an artfully arranged row of thin sliced salami, pickled carrot ribbons, and a thick slice of cheese topped with a whipped egg yolk mixture reminiscent of deviled eggs but with a much fancier french name. The board was served with two slices of bread, which may not be enough for some folks, but all of the elements were quite tasty together. We moved onto a shared rabbit rilletes with currant jam and marrow ($4), aka rabbit salad on a toast with current jam and meat butter, which we thought was just okay - not because of the overlooked bit of rabbit bone in the dish, but because I'm not a huge fan of this particular fruit+meat combo. For the main event, we chose to share an order of cassoulet with duck, garlic sausage and white beans ($18). A hearty little dish, you long to be at home, on the couch, in sweatpants. The potatoes aligot ($5), aka cheesy mashed potatoes with a butter floater, was pretty standard. Service (at the bar) was good. If you sit by the meat slicer, you may rate the service even higher based on the complimentary bits of charcuterie you'll likely receive. I appreciate a) not being charged from club soda and b) not being charge per cup of coffee consumed, especially when spending a small fortune on cocktails, which were quite good. Ambience is open and airy. The artwork choice is, well, curious. Wish I could give 2.5 stars. Like I said...on the fence. read more

Absolutely adorable atmosphere- love all the old charm and woodwork in this sweet spot. Lined with beautiful artwork and right in the heart of Old Market Omaha. The wine selection is phenomenal and the brunch menu made it hard to choose. I had a few glasses of wine and the marinated shrimp - so yum! I took the basket of pastries to go and thoroughly enjoyed those the next morning. Nice date spot, and great area to walk around before or after. read more

Lovely place in a beautiful part of Omaha. The staff is knowledgeable so if you don't know: ask. They were all super friendly and great with kids! I brought my five year old and they found paper for her so she could draw a picture for our waiter. Authentic French food with a modern/American twist. Would recommend to everyone! Easily accessible but be prepared to possibly have to pay for parking. Super clean and really beautiful interior with great art that's really different from the mainstream. It is a nicer restaurant so be prepared to pay a little more. You don't have to dress up but I definitely recommend. Best part: we left full. Only downside is they don't have the greatest kids menu for super picky (I'll only eat chicken nuggets and Mack and cheese) kids. Lastly, try the wine! read more

Actually, a bit of hit and miss this past Christmas Eve brunch. We were a large party, 13 of us, so that presents a challenge in itself. Peter did well as a server, but some of the others who helped serve or clear plates were just plain sloppy, spilling the leftover oyster dregs, for example. Eggs benedict were a hit; baked butter beans a miss. And "mocktails" for the kids at five bucks a pop. C'mon. This has been a family holiday brunch tradition from the days when Le Bouillon was called the French Cafe (or something like that). Maybe we need to start a new tradition in a new venue. read more

Since I moved back to Omaha I've been curious about his place since it used to be The French Cafe. I liked all the art work and the sculpture in the back. I was surprised that it was fairly empty for a Friday night. Our server was knowledgeable on all the food, eager to make recommendations, she made an excellent wine recommendation, and was very polite. We waited quite some time for our entrees to arrive, despite the restaurant not being full. There was a private party going on in the back room, so the kitchen staff may have been preoccupied with that? I was really looking forward to the food here after looking at all the great Yelp pictures. I wanted to try the ratatouille and Parisian gnocchi, but I didn't see them on the menu. So I went with the special, the cod, and I just didn't like it. It was too salty and vinegary. My husband had the cassette, he liked it, I didn't....again too salty for my taste. Overall, I'm not too thrilled about this place. However, I would like to give it another try, maybe for brunch. read more

Lovely little French restaurant in the Old Market. Perfect for a tasty, light dinner. The atmosphere is great, as is the service, but the food was salty and underwhelming, and very expensive for what it was. The mains started at $21 for lunch. To top it off, our party of 7 had a gratuity automatically added. I didn't notice until two weeks later when doing my bills. Not really cool. I hope the server enjoyed the really big tip! The choices for lunch included frog legs (honestly, I don't see people eating them in France, much), a burger (??), and rabbit, which I was happy to see. The onion soup was super salty, I couldn't eat much. The bread and cheese plate was very good, but the focaccia was a bit stale (also unsure how an Italian bread made it on a French menu). It would have been nice, since they are serving burgers to see pommes frites and mussels and croque monsieur on the menu. (I see the latter on the Yelp menu, but neither was available to order when we were there.) But, honestly, we were there with my family and they gave us a private room, which was terrific, and the server was a lot of fun. So mostly a good experience, but if I went back, it would probably be just be for wine and to soak in the atmosphere. read more

Enjoyed picking my wine from the wine store. Menu was a bit limited but reallly good.

Would love to see more people enjoying this gem. The food was stellar. Personally enjoyed the duck frites and the basque cheesecake. The duck was very moist, medium center, with lightly smoked skin, sitting on a bed of crisp shoestring fries. My lunch dates had the crisp smoked cod, perfectly crisped potatoes, French onion soup and bread service. The cheesecake was lightly toasted and paired with poached pears and caramel drizzle. read more

The big question is WHY did I not go here sooner?? I think it might have been because it is in the location of the old French Cafe so maybe I thought it was a "special occasion" place? I've been here three times in about a month and each time was lovely. I don't know why we decided to stop here for dinner on a whim. Our server was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable about the menu and was just a pleasure to talk to. We started with the Pork Rilettes which was really the only thing we were a bit disappointed with. They were good but not the same quality we were used to. The roasted beets were AMAZING but as our server did point out, you need to like beets which we do. I had the hangar steak which was accompanied by a potato and carrot gratin. The flavor of the steak and the gratin were both mouth watering. The next week I attended a luncheon with a set menu of salad and quiche. Once again, the service was perfect and the food was perfect. you can really see their attention to detail in all of their foods. We then hit them for their EXPANDED HAPPY HOUR (TUES-SAT 3-6 PM: $3 Tartines, Afternoon Tapas, Oysters, $5 Wine & Drinks.) Our service at the bar was just as good as we had in the past. My husband had oysters which they shuck at their raw bar. We also shared some pomme frites that were served with their house aioli. Salty and delicious. I can't wait to go back and try their burgers which i hear are amazing. Atmosphere is nice as well with lots of original art with a rich Omaha history. read more

Nice. That sums up our experience - this was a dinner with good friends - we used to go out every Wednesday when I was in Omaha, so when I was back, we did it again, and tried out Le Bouillon. This restaurant sat vacant for my entire 20 month stay in Omaha, which is a shame. It is a new place now, and it looks nice. The walls are covered in artwork, the service is good, and the food - wonderful! I ordered their steak with roast potatoes, while my two friends ordered the fish soup dish and the salad. All were good. The steak came on a bed of broiled onions, and was seasoned properly. It was very tender, and went well with the glass of wine I ordered. The next time I'm in Omaha, I'll be back. This was some good food and good service. read more

Our experience started great with a nice table by the window, a friendly server, and a great bottle of wine. Then things oddly morphed into something more like a diner than a reputable French restaurant. Server vanished never to be seen again. We were told business was slow, service staff are being cut and the kitchen is closing early. This is a Saturday night!? So---do you want to order anything? Man-what a disappointment. So much for relaxing like the French and lingering. Got soup & left never to return again. Have you ever been to LeMadelien? read more

Went here recently for our anniversary. Overall pretty good, but i think i prefer either La Voltaire or Dario's for similar food. Would give is 3.5 We loved the space and the ambiance. We went on a Thursday night and were a little surprised at how empty the place was. Service was outstanding, we really liked our waiter and he was very helpful with our ordering and knew the menu very well. He did not know the french wines very well, but had someone come over who was more familiar with the french wine list. I actually appreciated that rather than trying to get us to buy something he was not familiar with. For appetizer we had the "Les Toasts" with Duck Confit and they were outstanding, best part of the meal for sure. We also tried the grilled Sardines, I don't think we would get them again, but had never tried them and wanted to give it a shot, they were very well prepared, but a lot of work to eat. For entree we had Cassoulet and Arroz a la Plancha, both were decent but not outstanding. My wife really did not like the Arroz. Bottom line, would probably go back and sit at the bar and have appetizer and a cocktail or wine, but not sure if i would sit down and have diiner again. read more

This was a good restaurant. I am happy I ate there one time, but most likely wouldn't go back. I was with 2 of my coworkers and we all agreed we liked it, it was a solid B-. The pros: -the atmosphere is awesome! It's in Old Market which is beautiful and the restaurant itself is good. -they have a nice wine selection. I'd be down to do HH with wine and the toasts The cons: -it's pretty expensive for what you get. It's very French and delicacy. -The entrees were all on the smaller side. They come with minimal sides that can't be substituted. -the service is slow. It took probably 45 minutes for us to be served our entrees and our waitress came to check on us maybe 3 times over a 2 hour meal? Came for a mid-week dinner. Pretty much had the whole dining room, which was nice in some ways, but eerie in other ways. Such is COVID. All the staff donned their masks. Their take on roasted romaine salad was really unique, and the anchovies were a great touch! As for the mains, I had the duck, which was cooked perfectly. But the real surprise was the bed of fries underneath. These were some of the best fries I've had. Ordinarily I'm not a fan of shoestring fries because they end up greasy or soggy. These fries were crispy and didn't taste too greasy. If it were socially appropriate to order more fries, I would have done so. I think I just lucked out that night. But provided it's still open post-COVID, I'll have the unfortunate task of sampling fries over several sittings to determine whether my fries were a fluke. read more
