I had a terrible experience yesterday at Lavender Nails. I would NOT recommend this salon. I had a 1 pm appt and was ready to go in. My mask was firmly in place. The nail technician/owner told me it would be 15 minutes wait, as she was finishing up a client. I totally understood - especially since this was the first day the salon was open since the Covid quarantine. But then, while I was still waiting outside, another young woman showed up in front of the salon. She could see that I was waiting to go...along with three other women waiting for their appointments. But she insisted that she only had one broken nail and it needed to be fixed right away. She did NOT have a mask on, but spoke to the same nail technician/owner that I had an appt with (Kim) and she said that 'I would have to soak my powdered gel nails off for 10 minutes' so she would fix the one nail first.
Still waiting outside, I then spoke to the young woman about not wearing a mask and that she would have to wear one to go into the salon. She told me she 'doesn't watch the news' and 'knew nothing about that'. I said that our Governor had made it mandatory for the whole State of California and she still claimed not to know what I was talking about. I explained that I am a cancer survivor and that her not wearing the mask was not about her, but rather was showing that she doesn't care about me or anyone else in the salon. She then just ignored me.
Next thing I knew, I was sitting at a sanitized chair soaking my nails. But much to my chagrin, the young woman was then seated not more than three feet from me - still with NO mask - and spent the next 20 minutes getting her extra-long, extra-pointy, blue and glitter-coated ONE nail repaired. Honestly, I am NOT exaggerating the time I had to wait. Because I did not sit in the chair to get my nails started until 1:45 pm.
Another BAD part of the service is that the owner asked me to sit in the SAME chair as the young woman without cleaning it, NOR cleaning the plastic shield which the young woman had just spent 20 minutes laughing and loudly talking and explaining how she broke her nail. (Side bar: it had something to do with her Dad getting really drunk and then shooting at both her and her boyfriend's car the night before and then threatening them with a taser gun?!? I swear....I couldn't possibly make this s$&@ up!!!!)
I insisted that the chair and shield be cleaned prior to sitting down. I also mentioned to the owner about the previous client not wearing a mask and her reply was, 'oh, really? I didn't notice.' Really?! It's her responsibility to not only 'notice' but enforce this policy!! I should not have had to say ANYTHING.
To top it all off, my nails were done horribly!!! The owner wanted to put the dip powder back in and I told her I preferred gel. She then proceeded to lightly file and buff my nails to where they still had lumps from the leftover product still in my nails. Instead of removing all the product, she sloppily put one coat of gel and two coats of polish. No cuticles trimmed, no manicure. Honestly, the polish was so sloppily put on you'd have thought I had it applied at a teenager's sleepover! There was polish all over my cuticles, but when I pointed it out she acted as if she couldn't see it. Needless to say, I am really DISAPPOINTED IN THE SERVICE I received at this salon. It cost me $30 and I will have to make another appointment in the next couple of days. But this time I will make sure it's at a more professionally run, and more Covid-19 compliant salon that CARES ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS!! How do these salons stay in business?!? And they MUST follow COVID-19 rules!!!!! Otherwise we will ALL suffer for it. read more
