Laughing planet is out of this world! The building itself is super cute and I love the outside patio. Perfect seating for a sunny day! I tried the Bollywood bowl without rice. I can't say no to a coconut curry sauce. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the chickpea garnish is to die for. I also tried the highway to kale salad. It was tangy and delicious, but I'd add chicken next time if I wanted it to be a full meal! Also I was informed that you can add chickpeas to the kale salad!! Laughing Planet is the fast food joint when you're trying to be better than a fast food person--the "hipster" fast food, if you will. You can order your meal via app, phone, or walk-in which makes it a top choice after a busy day and no time to cook dinner. I typically pick-up my order and head home. Parking is sometimes tricky, but ever since Tahoe Street has been reconstructed with extra street parking it is noticeably easier to find a convenient parking spot. The register for carry-out orders is usually unmanned, but the employees are usually quick to check on you. The to-go orders are waiting under a heat lamp, but sometimes I wonder for how long. I will usually be in store about 10 minutes after placing my order, but sometimes the cheese on my food looks a bit hard as if it has been sitting for a few minutes. The food can be super tasty or kinda bleh. This is why I consider it the fast food of Midtown. Sometimes it's warm and fresh. Sometimes it seems a bit stale. Sometimes the side of sour cream that you pay for is right in the bag with everything else and sometimes not. The convenience, general range of consistency, and moral victory of not buying a burger and fries is just enough to keep me coming back when I'm in a weeknight dinnertime bind. read more

I went down to check that everything was ok and the waitress dismissed me and said the order was coming... no it wasn't even put in. This restaurant has "healthy food"! At first I was like I want comfort food...so I was a little disappointed at first...Let me tell you they use quality ingredients and everything is seasoned well! Entirely average. I had a bean and cheese burrito with pulled pork. The pork was very well hidden and I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a plain bean and cheese burrito and the one I had with the extra $2.75 worth of pork. The burrito was also nearly devoid of flavor, I used about 1/4 bottle of their "Ha Ha Habanero" hot sauce (admittedly good) for a bit of taste. I also did not like the very light weight metal plate I received. Very hard to control. The restaurant does have a pretty nice atmosphere, music is a bit loud though. Consistently inconsistent with a major lowlight last night ... I stopped going to the Laughing Planet by UNR a few years ago (even though it was right across from my office), because the food preparation was so inconsistent. There were also mistakes with my order at least 50% of the time. I almost always order a burrito, so it's not that complicated. I gave them another chance recently and had a few good meals. The pot roast special with spinach and brussel sprouts was amazing. I thought maybe going to the Midtown location was the key, but last night I ordered my usual burrito and it was so bad that I felt compelled to write a review. Half of the directions in my online order were ignored. I paid an extra $2.50 for guacamole, but all I saw was a tinge of green in a tortilla that was mostly just filled with more beans than anyone would want to eat (like 95-99% beans). I thought I detected a few grains of rice and maybe some cheese, but it was hard to tell. Wondered if whoever made it had never had a burrito. Pretty flavorless overall, so I will just use the beans to make other meals. I always feel like a Karen, double-checking my order when I get there - and I still give a decent tip - but it does seem to be a crapshoot of whether or not my order is taken seriously. It's never that complicated and I use the checkboxes provided for online ordering to minimize confusion. I went back and forth about posting a review, but after missing dinner and having an early appointment, I grabbed a breakfast burrito at Whole Foods and it was soooooo much better! Restored my faith in burritos. I only went back to LP because the Whole Foods burrito bar was closed a few times. I will reach out to the owner/manager at some point. Maybe better staff training and monitoring would help. I've seen a few reviews similar to mine. I also saw an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie that reminded me of the ones from Deux Gros Nez, so I bought one. It had a weird sugary spice on top of it and was also disappointing. read more

This place is garbage. I ordered at 7:51, two burritos and two beef tacos. The rice in the burrritos were raw, still crunchy and bombed in salt. The cook this evening could care less because of the quality we were given. They couldn't even bother with getting the pico mixed. They just chopped tomato, chopped onions and sprinkled the cilantro... the center of one of the burritos were just straight up chopped onions. Tried calling to get my money back cause we ended up heading to chipotle to eat! Of course you call, rings once and you can hear how they took the phone off the hook. Called twice more but straight to voicemail that is always full. I've seen the franchiser of this location... he whirls in and whirls out, doesn't ever bother to help his understaffed location and it shows. You got kids messing this place up. read more

Ive been here a few times and I usually really enjoy the service and the food! However, there's a newer older lady who works there and she's got the worst attitude problem I've seen in a service employee. We were visiting fam and it was lunchtime. We wanted to have lunch in the midtown Reno area. But some folks had food allergies, aversion to gluten, and/or were vegan. But some of us already ate and we all knew we wanted a place that we all can sit and hang out without the pressure of "eat and leave... pronto" Plus we all wanted a menu serving up fresh and healthy food at non exorbitant prices. So we decided on Laughing Planet cafe on Tahoe Street. It was a perfect place for us. I had no clue what to expect. I've never been. So when I walked in... I first noticed the decor. It was super modern cool, eclectic. Fun bright colors with wacky figurines in glass cases. But not kitschy. Lots of play dinosaurs about for the kids and adults to handle. Also they have toys and board games. You order and pay at the counter. They give you a number and you grab your food when they holler out the number. They have a self serve fountain drink with sodas made from real cane sugar. Hallelujah. No HFCS. But I passed on that and ordered a lemonade, it was delicious and of course house-made. 6 of us went for dinner... and the food was very disappointing. The portions were small and overloaded with beans, lentils, and rice- lacking in the other more desirable ingredients. Our order included the Comfort bowl, Lebanese Bowl, Korean Bowl, Grilled Chicken Burritos x3, Beef Burrito, guacamole and chips, 2 teas, 1 lemonade, 1 beer, water .... Do not go to this establishment if you want good food. We gave it a chance and we're very disappointed. The cashier was nice, but I wouldn't recommend tipping because you have to do everything else yourself including bussing. We had some of the Mexican food options like burritos, tacos, etc and honestly I would say Taco Bell is better. So food was bad, prices for what you get is ridiculous, and not to mention, we decided to sit on the patio where flies attacked us the entire time. I get the Bollywood bowl often and have tried a lot of different menu items all filled with great tasting veggies and meats! I also would recommend their vegan chili, and the mango habanero salsa. We absolutely LOVE Laughing Planet - both locations! Super healthy, creative and colorful concoctions that taste delicious. My daughter and I both tend to try the vegetarian version of the weekly or current seasonal special when we go and my husband is a creature of habit- he gets the house-made veggie chili every time. On our most recent visit, I decided to go with something off of the main menu, the Cuban burrito! There is a Cuban restaurant in Southern California that we used to go to called Versailles. I loved their vegetarian dish of black beans, rice and fried sweet plantains. When I took my first bite of the Cuban burrito at Laughing Planet, it brought me back to Versailles. It was really that good! A yummy combination of black beans, plantains, yams, rice, pico de gallo and chipotle BBQ sauce.... delicious! I have attempted to recreate some of the Laughing Planet dishes at home to no avail. Until I get them down, I will continue to be a regular here. read more

Laughing Planet for the win. I always feel like when I am looking for healthy food that taste delicious, this is a go to. I am a basic chicken, bean, rice, and cheese burrito girl when I come here but it just taste so clean and tasty. Served warm with the tortilla super soft. Previously, I have also had a quesadilla and paleo bowl which were both great. The last few times I have come in to grab food to go, I have also thrown in a ABC juice that hits the spot! They have kombucha and beer on tap too! The service is always top notch and the decor with bright walls and fun dinosaurs always brings a smile to my face. read more

Staff was very aware of celiac needs. Almost any dish can be made gluten free. Our party enjoyed the Korean bowl, comfort bowl and house salad with quinoa. All were delicious. Only negative would be small portion of rice that came in the bowls; the comfort bowl was almost all black beans. While the food is good occasionally I absolutely refuse to eat here ever again. I ordered online and let me breakdown the process of getting the food. Gets there at 630 (when food was supposed to be ready), is not acknowledged for good while. Let's them know I'm picking up food. Stares at my smooties for over 35 minutes before they're handed to me and then stares at my food for 15 minutes. The ticket that is with the food is checked several times and they even look directly at me. When they finally "hand" me the food, they threw it at me and I almost ended up dropping it. I ended up leaving there a bit after 7. Drive home and they didn't even put the sauce on the quesadilla or on the side like it's supposed to be. We also paid extra for a deluxe burrito and they didn't even make it a deluxe. This has happened twice and honestly it just irritates me. read more

Stopped in for lunch and were very excited about all the vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. In addition to the standard menu, Laughing Planet usually has "Specials" or "Seasonal" items. Since we're leading up to Thanksgiving, they were offering a delicious Holiday meal you could get as a burrito or bowl. I was able to get it with tempeh to make it vegetarian, and was not disappointed. It was an entire thanksgiving meal in a bowl! Greenbeans, mashed potatoes, celery&onions/squash, cranberry sauce and tempeh! They squash was maple curry seasoned, and I couldn't believe how good it was. They also have a fun variety of drinks/smoothies on the menu. The place had a laid back vibe, there were toy dinosaurs on all the table. We used to order takeout from here a couple times a month- the food is not great but kinda healthy and inexpensive. Tonight I ordered online, as per usual. Somehow the order didn't go through to the kitchen- although of course the payment went through. The people were very rude when we went to pick up the food and they didn't see the order, although they readily admitted the system is faulty. So - needless to say, we're done with this mediocre place- the only advantage was convenience. It's proved no longer to be convenient. read more

Don't be fooled by the pictures as the dishes aren't as photogenic as they are delicious! My husband and I had been trying to eat healthy at home, and wanted a break from our cooking once in a while but weren't sure where to go for a healthy meal. Every time we contemplated going here, we look at pictures and decided against it multiple times. But whimsically, we finally gave it a try, and we had been returning customers since our first time trying! We've tried almost all of their bowls and each one is delicious. They really know how to make vegetables taste amazing. My favorite bowl is harvest bowl (quinoa, pumpkin seeds, black beans, kale, and tofu with lime sauce) and my husband's favorite is Korean bowl (assorted vegetables, rice, and beef). But you can't go wrong with anything here. I've tried their juices too, and they are all good - my favorite is ABC (apple, beet, carrot). We stopped by to order three take-out lunches, 2 Thai Bowls with brown rice & 1 Korean BBQ Bowl with Jasmine rice. The bowls were fresh, colorful, and flavorful. I especially liked the crunchy cilantro lime slaw and quick pickles on the slightly sweet and spicy BBQ sauce. The take-out bowls were carefully prepared and gently placed in a take-out bag for a safe trip by the helpful staff member. For the record I think the workers in the front and in the kitchen work hard and do a good job.
