Found this amazing gem on GrubHub, after having a craving for the Dominican dish "tres golpes", and I am so happy I tried them! For $9, this is the best breakfast/brunch in town! Latin Soul is a neighborhood staple that opened pre-Pandemic so it's been around a while now. When you walk in, a giant mural on one wall greets you. To the left is a long counter/steam table behind glass. To the right is seating. Beyond the cashier is where desserts and drinks are stored. There is a rest room in the back. This is a relatively nice set up but it is also no frills. This space has clearly had several other identities over the years. My go to dish is rice with peas and pernil. I will also add in a side order of maduros. The rice is always delicious and perfectly cooked. The pernail is cut fresh to order as it sits in a steam table tray of its own juices. The crispy skin sits on top and they cut pieces for you with your order. Be sure to ask them to scoop some gravy onto your meat and rice! The pernil is perfectly seasoned. Not too salty, not under-seasoned and it has a great texture. It is never dry or chewy (in my experience anyway). The maduros vary visit to visit. Sometimes they are perfectly cooked and sweet, other times they are a bit too soggy. Just eyeball them before you order. While pernil is my "go to" dish, I have also had their turkey in the past. Turkey is hard to keep moist, even if it's sitting in a steam table tray of broth. I will say this, if you get it fairly fresh the turkey is tender and has great flavor. Again, eyeball it before ordering. There is staff turnover at Latin Soul, so my experience with the person serving me has ranged over the years. Years ago there was one person who was super nice and friendly. Then for a while a different person took over who seemed often eager for me to leave. More recently however the staff has been very nice and friendly. Your mileage will vary. Latin Soul is great. It's one of my favorite places to go on this stretch of Elmora. First time visiting this place.. The yellow rice was very flavorful but the turkey wing was very hard and needed to cook more... The staff was nice so because of that o will go again and try something different.. The prices was reasonable.. I did order Trese cake so so delicious.. I called in to place my order and I was told I needed to come in because they don't take orders over the phone. Which it makes no sense when they take online orders. I took my business some where else where they took my order on the phone so by the time I get there it'll be ready for me to pick up. I like to speak to people over the phone when ordering Spanish food, I don't like to order online because I can tell them exactly how I want my food on the phone. read more

Just ordered thru Grubhub about an hour ago and i gotta say, i was hesitant to try them out but am i glad i did. It was actually delicious! Pernil in this area is a hit or miss i noticed, but theirs is def a hit! I kept it simple and got the pernil with mofongo which was delicious! Will def be ordering from them again! read more

Maybe I came at the wrong time (they were closing soon) but there weren't a lot of options and the food was okay. I had stewed beef/ rice.

I just had the Carne guisada con arroz blanco y habichuelas rosadas to drink Fresa batida lunch special ( The beef stew with rice and beans and a strawberry milkshake. The beef stew was absolutely delicious almost like mom use to make the beef was very tender and tasty and the milkshakes is very good it could use a little more strawberry. The delivery was scheduled for 6:45pm - 7:15pm it arrived before 7pm and still warm. I will definitely will order from here again. read more

Very quick lunch. Entrees are already prepared. Just have to ask the lady what you want and she will scoop it for you. I stopped in because it was in the mood for rice and beans. I had that with the beef stew. Overall it was ok. It only cost 6 bucks so I can't complain. The cube of meat was tough and dry. Latin Soul is a small yet nice hole-in-the-wall located a block away from my workplace in Elizabeth, NJ that serves Dominican Food. I've always found this fare to be very tasty and thus highly ranked among my list of favorite cuisines. My first time coming I was greeted and conversed pleasantly and perhaps a little flirtatiously by an attractive Dominican girl who rang me up after I had a very tasty meal consisting of yellow rice, stewed beef and maduro, which is fried/sauteed sweet plantain for those not up on their knowledge of latino fare. After that I knew right away that I would become a regular as the food was extremely good and filling and the staff was friendly and welcoming. This apparently was a good decision as by lunch time I am starving and drained of energy and their food leaves your taste buds satisfied and fills you up for most of the day. Although $9-11 might be a bit much to pay almost daily for lunch, having good tasty food that fills you up and served by staff that recognize you and treat you like a favorite customer well makes up for it. read more

This younger girl that serves everyone is always upset at all times, honey if you don't like dealing with people don't work somewhere that REQUIRES you to deal with customers! Best Dominican cuisine and food I have ever had I would give 10 stars if I had to but it's great food and good customer service.

I live really close by this restaurant. It is affordable and they give you a good amount of food. However, the customer service is TERRIBLE! I used to go at least once a week, but every time I went the employees (two females, both relatively young) always has something mean and weird to say to me. Last week, I asked for a separate container for the beans (I ordered the special) and the employee was telling me that the way they sold the special was mixed, that she did not have containers, although right behind her there were several hundred! As I asked exactly what the issue was, she said it was ok, that she would give me a separate small container for the beans. I never knew if she was referring to the price of an extra small container or just the "extra work" of serving it? By the way, I am not taking about the plastic containers, I am talking about the foam ones. Moreover, one day they charged me $0.50 cents more for a side that I ordered, twice! After, I realized that the value for this was $2.50, not $3.00, but by that time I disposed of the receipts. I have looked for the owner to inform her about this, never seem locate her though. Sometimes, you just want the service of a restaurant to be cordial. I am going to your business as a customer, the least I deserve is to be treated as a human being, and with the two girls that work there, I feel like an animal.Maybe one day these two employees will understand the importance of cordiality and respect. Latin soul is a fresh take on quick Dominican food cafeteria style. The location is pretty prestigious as it is the old "Goodman's Deli", which was famous for their jersey style sloppy joes. They have lunch specials for like $5.99 and the food is very tasty. I usually eat here on Thursday when they serve oxtail. It is rich and delicious. read more

This is probably my favorite Spanish American cuisine and the city of Elizabeth. Especially the Dominican style of cooking, top notch! And so inexpensive. Clean establishment, excellent food, and quick fast friendly service. The stew chicken is to die for! I can absolutely eat it every day. It is not the biggest of restaurants, and if you are not paying close attention you may even miss it, but it is worth the visit 100%. I rate Latin Soul 5 stars. read more

Latin Soul has excellent service and staff. My first time in latin soul i had the oxtails. I come in daily for the fish sandwiches which are very tasty. I have tried the beef stew and it was never dry or tuff. Its very juicy and this wasn't during lunch hours. I will continue to come all the way from Hackensack to get some of the best DOminican food in town. Latin Soul keep up the good work.
