No one was at the register to take my order. The owners and employees were scrambly behind the counter and kitchen. Hardly no food was on display. I ordered: Relleno Maduro Side of Arroz con gandules Pernil Kebabs with Guava BBQ sauce Trifongo Results: -Relleno Maduro (maduro wasn't fully ripped but the meat was tasty) -Arroz con Gandules (not flavorful) -Pernil Kebabs 3 out of 4 (tender) -Trifongo 2 out of 4 (not dry but no flavor) If I tasted it blindfold, I would have never guessed that it was a Trifongo). The SERVICE (thumbs down) The FOOD (thumbs down) The AMBIANCE (thumbs up)

The chicken was tender and delicious, and the pernil was flavorful, juicy, and tasted fresh. You really can't go wrong with pernil at a good Puerto Rican restaurant--it's one of those dishes that never disappoints when it's done right. Unfortunately, the second visit was a completely different experience. The food was much too greasy, and it tasted as though it had been cooked in old oil. By the third visit, the food just didn't have the same flavor or quality as it did the first time. Because of those inconsistent experiences, when my fiancé asked if I wanted to go back, I decided to pass. It's disappointing because our first visit was so good, but I need consistency to want to keep coming back.

10/10 - Truly the best Colombian food around!…read more Sabor de Mi Tierra is absolutely top notch. We've been coming here since the pandemic -- they opened just a week before lockdown, and we supported them with takeout back then. Once we were able to dine in, we've been coming back nonstop ever since. The food is incredible, hands down the best Colombian food in the area (and honestly much better than Noches -- less salty, more flavorful, and always consistent). Everything is on point whether you come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. My go-to is the carne asada con arepa y queso, and my wife always gets the huevos rancheros. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is just as amazing as the food. Every single server is kind, welcoming, and so sweet. Our favorites are Liliana and Jennifer -- total sweethearts. The owner, Carlos, is wonderful too. Every time we walk in, we feel like family. If you're in the area, you have to stop by Sabor de Mi Tierra. Incredible food, incredible people -- highly recommend!

The atmosphere was welcoming and lively. I was greeted promptly by a friendly young lady at the front and she suggested that I try the beef empanadas. They only cost a few dollars so I went ahead and bought two. So as I walked to the car, which was conveniently parked in the lot behind the restaurant, I immediately unwrapped my empanada. At first, I thought it was going to be like other empanadas that I've tried which have a crispy shell however these empanadas are similar in a way, but are very different in texture. These empanadas are a bit softer on the outside and have a denser inside filling which include potatoes and beef and it was quite delicious. I thought I could eat both of them, but after one I was full. I will definitely be back to the restaurant since I'm always in that area and it's literally five minutes from where I live. I can't wait to try other items on their menu.

Which I thought was really kind for them to do. Overall, I would come back here whenever I am around the area and try the other foods they have.

All delicious, albeit a little salty to my taste. La Cocina is a popular catering spot for Rutgers events, so I have been fortunate to try a wide variety of offerings such as pastelon, pernil, and chicken stew -- and you can't really go wrong with any of them. The empanadas are also a must (make sure to ask for hot sauce), and while difficult, try to save room for dessert! Flan and tres leches are soooo good. Lunch time gets really busy, so you can avoid the rush by coming a little later. However, the staff is good about moving everyone along, so you won't be waiting forever. Definitely give La Cocina a try!

Now, the food is a different story. There were 4 of us in the party and two out of the four entrees were disappointing. I had the carne llanera and this was by far the weakest dish out of the 4. The other plate that was ok, but not great was the churrasco montañero. The meat was not a good cut and had way too many fatty pieces. The entraña à la parrilla was by far the best of the 4. This one was well cooked and flavorful and a great cut of meat. The second one was the pechuga encebollada, this one was very good and the caramelized onions were perfectly cooked. We also had the empanada appetizer which was very good as well. The service wasn't bad, but they did get one of the orders wrong and we were half way through our dinner before the correct dish arrived. Rancho Mateo is a beautiful restaurant in a great location, but the inconsistency in the quality and flavor of the food makes it a one-and-done experience for me. There are much better options for Colombian food in the area.
