a white styrofoam container filled with tacos and rice

I attended a festival this weekend in Newark and this amazing food truck was in attendance and I now understand why the line was so long. The tacos were actually life changing and the jollof rice was some of the most authentic jollof I've have since leaving Accra.

I've been wanting to try this for quite some time. I ordered the Afro taco bowl, steak, I also ordered the blackened basa and shrimp with jollof rice and chicken quesadillas. Ok so, the taco bowl was good. I'm assuming this is their house sauce on it, I liked it. It gives me bbq sauce family taste, so if you like that then you'll enjoy this. The blackened basa and shrimp was delightful. It is a little spicy spice so if you can't hand at all, this might not be for you. But if you can take a little kick of pepper and then some you'll enjoy it. And the shrimp was nice sized thick shrimp. I appreciated that! The chicken quesadilla was good? That saucy sauce they have is mixed in the middle, so be aware of that if you're looking for the more original taste of a quesadilla. This is a black owned business that I was soo excited to support, and I will be returning to continue to support them. They are very busy, so DO ORDER YOUR FOOD Maybe about an hour out from when you actually want it.

Service: Good, they were good with suggestions and prompt with taking orders. The food was prepared fairly quickly. Food: Delicious, a little on the greasy side (hence the 4 stars). The salmon was well prepared and the salad dressing was so good (glad I got 2 of them). If you are not a sauce person just ask for the sauce on the side but it is delicious. Great for a quick bite, that will fill you up! ^_^ Please follow my instagram page for more food places and videos; @hike4foodies

Tender, tender, tender AND seasoned perfectly is what I'd say about my Oxtail quesadilla was a hit! We also were gifted a combination of shrimp+crab quesadillas based on the recommendation of the man (colored sunglasses) taking our order. The oxtails bowl we ate and didn't get to take pic. Find this truck and order your food. I traveled from far after seeing this truck on IG.

The food was good. I was a bit disappointed in the jollof rice. Other than that I would definitely visit again.

The food was good, a lil pricey. Their Jollof rice was cold and taste like Mexican rice and long wait time. But overall it was good

(Dined 07/16/23 SU @ 3:00pm): What did the "twelve" represent with this food truck?…read more My friend, the lil' black beast, and I were at Corgi Spirits when I noticed Twelve (Food) Truck. As I approached, I was ecstatic to see that it was a Filipino food truck and proudly wanted to support them and my heritage! I've tried a few back in Los Angeles, but they were very few and far between. Plus, we needed something to soak up all of the spirits we were consuming on this lovely afternoon. Would their truck represent and serve the Filipino community well!? QUICK BIO "You can get an authentic taste of the Philippines from Twelve in New Jersey! They are the first and only Filipino food truck in North east New Jersey. Their brightly colored, Jeepney looking Filipino food truck is affordable, delicious and always popular. They serve freshly fried lumpia (mini pork egg rolls), pancit (chicken with veggie stir fry noodles), BBQ skewer (chicken or pork on a stick) and other traditional Filipino recipes, plus some really innovative/fusion entrees & desserts. Folks can also get their fill with the help of their Catering Service. They'll bring the food, and some friendly staff along too. They promise that Twelve will leave everyone saying 'Salamat!'" PURCHASE 8pc Pork Lumpia ($9.00): Savory snack rolls made of thin crepe pastry skin called "lumpia wrapper" enveloping a mixture of savory fillings such as chopped vegetables and minced pork meat served with a side of sweet & sour chili sauce, these fat finger-shaped morsels were packed with stuffing and flavor and could've eaten more! The only knock was the average price of over $1.00/piece. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=1lYIn7qk0FN9sCpO0o7Okw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Ube Macapuno Pudding ($10.00): The pudding was creamy and thick while the sweet macapuno strings and crumbled goodness added more texture and flavor contrast. A yummy treat indeed, but again a tad on the pricey side. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=xLDBWnmTOwxjB-67Ti7Apw&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw SERVICE A friendly man greeted me as I approached the truck, he quickly took my order, and I patiently waited around for about 10 minutes before my order was ready. All was straightforward and greatly appreciated - thank you! PARKING (FREE) Being a food truck, they were at the beck and call wherever the event was held. In this case, the event took place at Corgi Spirits with plenty of free onsite parking and spots seemingly along the main drag of Distillery Dr. and all nearby streets. Another option was a driving service like a bus, taxi, Lyft (we did this), Uber, or train (the closest light rail station was at Garfield Ave.) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Your standard self-sufficient food truck with an exterior food menu, separate order and pick up windows, a small area for condiments, napkins, and utensils, no designated seating area except for the distillery itself, and natural lighting was prevalent during the daytime while minimal electric street and truck lighting glowed at night. There were no TVs nor any background music except what was playing inside the distillery. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=5Pj-V41BcL-hgmJah1Rc9w&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I enjoyed Twelve (Food) Truck who provided me with "a taste of the Philippines". My concerns would be their extremely limited menu https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Yj1siAc3UdV52PFP7NzCNQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw and the relatively elevated prices. They covered the basics, but I felt it would be nice if they got a bit more creative and with a fusion spin on it like lechon street tacos, sisig burritos, or simply expanding the menu if the finances allowed for it. I appreciated that Corgi Spirits created a drink https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=uqVKaX8w442My1UezurG2g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw to complement their ube macapuno pudding dish. The food and portion sizes were good, and the service was easy and straightforward. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $19.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS

It contains Swiss cheese, Roasted Turkey, Sauerkraut, and Thousand Island on Rye bread. I also added sauteed onions. Overall, it was okay, lacking some flavor and it was not as filling as I'd expected. I wanted to understand and experience the hype about American Melts, but it fell flat for me. It was just okay. Despite being underwhelmed, I am still giving 4 stars because the service was great and I am impressed with the price range. Every sandwich on their menu is under $10, and that stands out especially these days when a mediocre burger is $15+ minimum. You can even "build your own grilled cheese" sandwich. For these reasons, I am willing to give American Melts another try and perhaps a different item on the menu.

It's a breath of fresh air to find places using real ingredients with a distinct flavor & charging under $10 each. Since I was starving I picked up 3 sandwiches: 1.) Brie - While quite good this was my least favorite. The brie & apple slices didn't pop out as much I wanted, but it still was satisfying. 2.) Stone Pony - Whoah! This is praise worthy. Roast beef was tasty & the caramelized onions & aioli horseradish are great additions to the flavor. 3.) Big Tex - This was my absolute favorite. If you have a hunger that needs to be quenched this is the sandwich to do it. The mac n cheese, bacon, & roast beef were on point. It mentions there is BBQ sauce, but I don't recall tasting it. Either way it wasn't overpowering as I'm not the biggest BBQ sauce fan & the sandwich stands on it's own with or without it Their sandwiches are perfectly portioned so you're not getting too little or too much. Their Staff was very friendly, there's seating outside, it's located next to a park and a bike trail, & there's actually a lot of parking despite it being a tiny shack. It's perfectly located & optimized if you like to grab & go or sit & chill. Kudos to these guys. Definitely worth going to over & over.
