Nice size portions etc, however, it was the start of the event and the truck had no sour cream. That's literally the one thing we eat these with, so they offered us a similar version of sour cream with some kind of crema mixed in, but it was too spicy for my kid, so she wasn't a fan and therefore, couldn't finish her food. I was finally able to try El Lechon and it was a great meal for sure! Upon walking in, it was pretty busy mostly for takeout. I asked the staff about dining in and luckily there was a table available for my friends and I. They had about 3 tables when I visited but they recently moved things around to fit more. Since it was all of our first times, the staff provided suggestions and answered any questions we had. As a pescatarian, they suggested bacalaitos (cod fish fritters only available on Fridays) and camarones w/ arroz con gondules (shrimp + yellow rice and pigeon peas). On the side I had to order fried plantains and a guava and cheese empanada. The food brought me back to living with my mom . Mom's food is always #1, and El Lechon brought back those memories in the kitchen! To go, I had to order a slice of their tres leches which definitely hit the spot. Since my friends and I visited close to closing, one of the staff came out and offered us coquito. She also chatted with us for a bit. It's very frustrating because they are a little pricey and to still want more rice after I eat is upsetting, I can never finish my Pernil with my rice and when it was told to them they said you can order more rice which is an additional 9$ on top of the 18$ I already spent. I started off with a bbq pork empanada which was not only big so good. For my entree, I had the Bistec Encebollado and the sauce on the steak was amazing. I chose yellow rice and maduros with my meal. I had to get an extra side of maduros because I couldn't stop eating them. The person I was with had the Pernil plato with maduros and yellow rice. The pork was so good, but I wouldn't trade the steak for anything! The person I was with also had pastele which I personally didn't love but she thought it was great. The ambiance of the place is very casual and the place is rather tiny so if it's crowded you may have to sit outside or just do takeout. I stopped by their food truck at the Food Truck Festival at the Paramus Park Mall today and was very happy with the Lechon Burger. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had. The patty was flavorful, not greasy, tasted unique, and was cooked perfectly. The addition of the ground chorizo definitely gives this patty a unique flair that regular burgers just don't have. The bun was high quality, white American cheese perfectly melted, and the onions fresh. I had them hold off on the mayo-ketchup spread, but did try their mayo-ketchup-garlic spread and their hot sauce on the side. Both condiments are really good. I dislike anything with ketchup, but found that their mayo-ketchup-garlic spread was really good and mixed very nicely. Their hot sauce had just the right amount of heat and flavor and was nicely salty. The fries were very good too and tasted high quality and were perfect for dipping in one of their sauces. Lastly, the service was friendly and the prices very reasonable. I would definitely eat there again. It has the home cooking, family vibes, and is a unique option for lunch or dinner. My brother has been here before and we drove almost an hour to get here and so worth. The lechón is prepared to perfection, cooked with flavor down to every piece of meat. When I arrived there was a parking lot for the plaza the restaurant was in. When I walked in my food was ready and the server was so welcoming and pleasant. They had the music blasting and it felt so tropical in there. I was also greeted by another server as I waited to pay. I ordered chicken breast with a stew sauce and my sister ordered the shrimp platter. The price wasn't too bad and they took credit card. When we got to my place we dug right in. My sister loved the shrimp but thought the rice needed some more seasoning. I really liked my chicken and stew sauce. It was flavored so well. Service was quick and beyond friendly. Regulars were greeted with hugs and kisses as the staff inquired about the kids and grandma. The menu is reasonably priced and portions are generous. Their signature dish is Pernil. It's tender slow roasted pork shoulder. This was easily my favorite of the three dishes we shared. The Pollo Guisado was overcooked, rubbery and didn't have much flavor. I didn't care for the empanadas, Flancocho or the Tres Leches either. I've had better Puerto Rican food, but the service made up for the shortcomings. I'll definitely revisit the next time I'm in the neighborhood. We were visiting from New York and found this restaurant on Yelp and Google, which both sites, gave great reviews. It was 20 minutes from our hotel. Pulling in, parking was good. The restaurant is in a small strip mall. Opening the door, me and my husband were immediately greeted with a smile. We were asked if we wanted to eat-in or take it to go, and we wanted to take it to go. The signs made it so easy to order. I ordered in my broken Spanish which brought a smile to my Hispanic husband's and the staffs' face. We were told the wait would be like 25 minutes but it felt way less than that. The welcoming atmosphere alone gives this place 5 stars. We sat comfortably as we waited for our food, and never once felt out of place. We ate the food back at the hotel and my husband first sentence was "mmm this is good!" It was good and so was the flan, although I like mine a pinch sweeter. I honestly don't need the extra sugar!!! We also ordered the steak and onions and the rice and beans with sweet plantains. Definitely recommend this place and we wish you much success!! My mother-in-law would approve . The sofrito sauce taste like nothing but water-oil-sprinkling of sofrito. Please stick to traditional means this suace is absolutely uncessary. How can a oil based sauce be added to already greasy meat. Include either a rich a hearty red-stew like sauce, OR, a garlic based sauce. nothing else. PLEASE! 2. The sofrito chicken is pale chicken breasts, overcooked, hard, with a drizzle of cilantro. Something your college kid might make at 3pm. Not deserving to be on the menu. Perhaps change it to skin-on chicken breasts, with some sear, and marinated in garlic and your cilantro sauce. would be amazing. read more

Delicioso! We are new to the area and this place kept popping up on all the delivery apps. It's just right. The portions are great, you can definitely spread it across 2 meals. The rice and beans are on point and authentic in flavor, rice is seasoned but not too salty. I get the chicken breast which is smothered in what tastes like recaito and is delicious. My hubby gets the pepper steak which is cut into strips and has great seasoning and sauce. The tostones are nice and thick!! Even the salad is fresh and the dressing flavorful. Also tried the beef empanadas. I thought the empanadas werent that flavorful. It was literally just ground beef and stewed potatoes (?). The crust was yummy and like usual but there was no excitement to it. Just curved my hunger as I drove home to eat the rest lol. The arroz con gandules is bomb.com. Melts in your mouth. The pollo guisado not my best version, miss my place in DC Dos Amigos! It was really good but just not as awesome as my DC place. Again missing something a little more pizaazz i dont know. The chicken was tender but too many carrots and potatoes for me. The pernil was nice and tender. Wish it came with some sauce/juice. Used some of the broth from the pollo guisado to liven it up. I've driven passed the strip mall where the restaurant is located many times. I was always scared to stop in there because there only 1 way in and out of the mall. Also because I'm trying to fill this review with words and blah blah blah blah. Anyways, I came here with 3 other colleagues. There was a lunch planned at a Chinese restaurant at Avenel,NJ. It got cancelled and I was not the first few people to be invited. I declined my colleague's colleague invite and always had to place to try for such occasions. I'm not a fan of mofongo but the food is really good. Most of the entrees are already cooked and they will scoop it up and bring it to your table. I got the bbq pork and chorizo empanadas, and my entree was pernil with the yellow rice peas with sweet plantains. We came on a busy Friday afternoon for lunch. All the tables got filled and a line was formed formed for take away. Uber eats drivers came for their delivery.
