Carne Guisada (WEDNESDAY ONLY). Grubhub delivery so disappointed. Rice cold undercooked and the portion is insulting for $14.

So disappointed! I ordered through Grubhub - Pernil with yellow rice and peas which was ok, nothing special. Also ordered carne guisada with white rice and red beans. For $14, I got 1 small container of beans and another container with was supposed to be "beef stew". Which was all sauce, potatoes, carrots and onions. and barely any white rice and it was cold and undercooked. I won't be ordering from here ever again.

    Welcome!

Ok hear me out not just saying this because it's my last name here but this place was great! The food tastes super authentic and fresh. Service was great both the server and cash rep were awesome. We dined in it's pretty small but we got lucky because Sunday seems sort of chill. There's minimal outdoor seating honestly you're better off taking it to go. From the moment you walk in there's Puertorican decor and I loved it definitely worth coming here. Prices are reasonable.

I was finally able to try El Lechon and it was a great meal for sure! Upon walking in, it was pretty busy mostly for takeout. I asked the staff about dining in and luckily there was a table available for my friends and I. They had about 3 tables when I visited but they recently moved things around to fit more. Since it was all of our first times, the staff provided suggestions and answered any questions we had. As a pescatarian, they suggested bacalaitos (cod fish fritters only available on Fridays) and camarones w/ arroz con gondules (shrimp + yellow rice and pigeon peas). On the side I had to order fried plantains and a guava and cheese empanada. The food brought me back to living with my mom . Mom's food is always #1, and El Lechon brought back those memories in the kitchen! To go, I had to order a slice of their tres leches which definitely hit the spot. Since my friends and I visited close to closing, one of the staff came out and offered us coquito. She also chatted with us for a bit. I always love a business that likes to get to know their customers! The price of food wasn't crazy expensive, I think I spent around $30-$35 for everything in total. The plates range between $11-$15 each and includes 1 entree (pork, chicken, steak or shrimp), choice of rice (yellow or white) and a side (maduros/sweet plantain, tostones/fried plantain or boiled yuca). Check them out for some Puerto Rican eats! Also, check their menu for specials!

The service was excellent! Super friendly and prompt. The food was delicious MoFongo was garlicky, chunky and savory. The Lechón was tender , very well seasoned. The arroz con gandules was really good also. the ambiance was joyful and casual, It is busy, lots of pick up and take out orders. Food is fresh!! Even took empanadas, alcapurrias, papa rellena and empanadas de guava to go!! Highly recommend it!!

The truck was at the Paramus Food Truck Festival over the weekend. Pernil y Arroz con gandules, was delicious! Will have to make a trip to the brick and mortar location because if the food was this good from a food truck, I can't wait to try it freshly made and still hot LOL. Eating from a food truck, the food gets cold fast. LOL

Passing thru after visiting some local attractions and decided to give this place a try; the atmosphere is very nice with super friendly staff. We began with appetizers; tried the relleno de papa and alcapuria de yuca, both were amazingly tasty. We continued with other dishes as shown in the images. Plenty of parking, the space inside is limited however, there is additional seating outside. The establishment is clean and very themed with a nice view of artsy.

The food is perfect! Just like my mom's only I don't have to go to Florida to eat it! There was a small misunderstanding of when I needed my catering order, but they fixed it right away and everyone at my holiday party raved about how great it was! I'd love to go to the restaurant itself and dine there soon, since it looked lovely when I went in to pick up my order. Thank you for everything

I have never had Puerto Rican food before so I can't say whether this is up to par compared to other places. However, I LOVED everything and I will absolutely be going back!!! I started off with a bbq pork empanada which was not only big so good. For my entree, I had the Bistec Encebollado and the sauce on the steak was amazing. I chose yellow rice and maduros with my meal. I had to get an extra side of maduros because I couldn't stop eating them. The person I was with had the Pernil plato with maduros and yellow rice. The pork was so good, but I wouldn't trade the steak for anything! The person I was with also had pastele which I personally didn't love but she thought it was great. The ambiance of the place is very casual and the place is rather tiny so if it's crowded you may have to sit outside or just do takeout. The service wasn't bad at all, the waitress was very nice.

Anyone familiar w/this area knows it's a nice ride to Perth Amboy from Union for some fried chicken chunks. So I decided to call a few of the local spots near home to find out if they've been hiding these little morsels of heaven from me all along but low and behold and lucky for them they didn't. ... NONE of em. Not one. They only had chicharron which is apparently pork. Although I'm a fan of pork, I was on a mission to find heaven close to home. Which leads me to my review of Sabor de la Isla. The service is friendly and courteous. And the chicharron DE POLLO wasn't as good as Perth Amboy's version but it was a very satisfying second. You get a LOT of rice, the beans are a decent portion and the chicharron is plentiful. I personally can get two sittings from the chicken and the rice is damn near enough to share with your family. You may just need an extra order of beans. But all of that for $9 is worth it imo.

**** 3 1/2 Stars ****…read more ---------------------------------------- This restaurant first came to my attention this past June. When we drove by it, our son-in-law pointed it out because our grandson, Alex, liked the name and wanted to go there :) Once we got home, I looked them up on Yelp and learned that it was a Peruvian restaurant. When we went to NJ this past week, I suggested that we all give it a try. After all, it was an easy walk from the family home. We got there around 5 p.m. on a Saturday. No one greeted us so we seated ourselves in a booth that seats 6. There was one party also dining in. Once our server finished taking their orders, she brought over 3 menus (seriously, can't they print up a few more?). We also discovered that the server barely spoke English. So...a perfect time for this half Puerto Rican to brush up on my Spanish. My husband, who also took Spanish classes back in the day, got a chance to practice. Needless to say, ordering wasn't very easy. To make things worse, the salsa music was extremely loud. We all ordered Inca Kola while pointing to each person at our table. The server wrote down one order and asked what everybody else was having---so time for some Spanish. My husband and our son-in-law chose the pollo a la brasa meal which had 1/4 chicken plus fries and a salad. One of our grandsons also chose this dish but he hates fries, so instead he got tostones with it. Alex liked the look of the ceviche dish and ordered it. I ordered chaufa rice with beef, as did our other grandson. Those who had the pollo a la brasa really liked it. My husband had white meat in his dish. He gave me a piece and it was moist and flavorful. Alex found the ceviche to be on the tart side, which gave us a chance to explain to him how ceviche was made. While he wasn't fond of it, he did eat most of it. I really liked the chaufa rice. It was moist with good flavor. The grandson who also got it, liked it. The portion size was huge! Neither of us could finish it all. I'll say this---our grandson managed to eat more of it than I did. At one point, the server came by and asked us a question in Spanish. With the very loud music, we couldn't understand her. She then said in English "You don't understand, do you?" To which we said "No". Yet she made to effort to say it in English. At the end of the meal, another woman came by to clear our table. I told her in Spanish to box up the leftover chaufa rice dishes. To those of you who want to dine in here---Check your bill very carefully. I'm glad that I did. It seemed to be very expensive and I figured out why---a 15% gratuity was added to it. Good thing I saw that or my husband would have over tipped! So...overall, the food was good and for that reason, it's worth another visit sometime. I was pleased that we weren't treated differently from those who are fluent in Spanish. Still, if you go there and know some Spanish, be prepared to use it!
