Run don't walk to this delicious Jamaican spot!!…read more I'm rarely in North Jersey nowadays after moving to Somerset County about 5 years ago. Jamaican food just doesn't hit the same in Central Jersey, so I had to try this spot. I asked for recommendations at the counter and she said the oxtail cheesesteak, oxtail patty sandwich, and the empanadas are really popular. I ordered the oxtail cheesesteak and 2 empanadas (jerk chicken and oxtail). OOOOOHHHHHH THEY WERE ALL DELICIOUS!!! Such juicy, tender, and flavorful meat in the empanadas and cheese steak accompanied by their "grove sauce". It was so good that I had to buy a bottle of the sauce to take home! Everything was served piping hot and fresh. The staff was also super nice and the dining space was really clean. Highly recommend!!

The Grove Grill Part II 143 Grove Street…read more Bloomfield, NJ 07003 Sorrel Smoothie Oxtail Cheesesteak Jerk Chicken Loaded Fries I previously posted about this locally owned Jamaican spot located near the intersection of Grove Street and Bloomfield Avenue only footsteps away from the Bloomfield Plaza strip mall. My last visit was "Jamaican" me so happy that I returned to explore some more menu items, especially a beverage from the new juice bar Owner Susan recently introduced. Sorrel Smoothie: This chilled, refreshing smoothie is blended with banana, coconut, ginger and sorrel, which contributes to its reddish appearance. The ginger added a mild kick. If you wish to add a nutritional supplement, feel free to add 1 or 2 tablespoons of Sea Moss Gel into the beverage. This healthy algae is not included with the drink, but it can be purchased separately. Oxtail Cheesesteak: This Grove original is topped with sautéed onions, blended american cheese, with mounds of deboned oxtail on a soft, doughy 8 inch sub roll. It doesn't have the most cinematic appearance, but the taste is out of this world. There is no question that I cleared this down to the last bite. Jerk Chicken Loaded Fries: This side was so fully "loaded" with toppings that it practically eats like a meal. It included hearty chunks of jerk chicken, blended American cheese with a stack of fries hidden beneath. These fries are "loaded" with ultimate flavor and comfort. Anything and everything can be supplemented with Susan's sweet, spicy, and savory secret Grove Sauce. If you enjoyed it as much as I did, full size bottles are available for purchase. The sauce is perishable and must be stored in the fridge. In addition to Susan making her original homemade sauce, she also published her first book. Built Under Pressure is a business guidebook containing informative tips and advice for anyone starting their own business. Copies are available for sale in the restaurant or on Amazon. Indoor seating is limited to four chairs, but there are a few outdoor picnic tables. Show your appreciation by posting a review on Google Review, Yelp, or both; the choice is yours. Overall, I had another priceless experience. Thank you Owner Susan and staff for making me feel right at home. #TheGroveGrill #BuiltUnderPressure #grovesauce #oxtailcheesesteak #JerkChickenLoadedFries #sorrelsmoothie

We were seated in the back area as there was about 8 to 10 of us. The well drinks (tito, margarita, etc) were priced at $10 and appetizers priced at the same. I ordered a lemon drop martini to drink, grilled oysters and steak crostini to eat. My grilled oysters were okay, except for one that has some "crunch"...lol to it. My steak was medium and cooked as ordered. But the show stopper was definitely the lemon drop martini, it was a good strong. So I ordered a second. The other girls really enjoyed their Caesar salad and mango margaritas. Our service was a bit slow, but good overall. Good happy hour spot, with a parking lot.

Also there is a parking lot, and they were offering valet when we went. I enjoyed the food I had as an entree (steak frites). What I didn't like was our waiter was constantly trying to up charge us. He kept asking if we wanted to add specific things to all our orders and even if we said no, he still insisted on it. This even occurred with shots of alcohol. I explicitly said I was driving and didn't want it and still shots were brought out with out us even asking. We thought maybe he was being very nice. Or maybe something was included we didn't know about ( what was added were things like a Caesar salad, Brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries so it easy to see how we didn't see it was things out of the ordinary included as sides for meals) or we were for some reason getting something comped, but that was not the case. Our bill was ASTRONOMICAL. If we didn't have these items we didn't want added on, it would have been fine but this type of way of doing business makes me never want to go back. We considered fighting the bill, but we did eat the food because at the time we thought it was either included or comped. Please be aware of this if you visit this restaurant, and if you are insisted upon adding things to your order learn from our mistake and ask more questions if it's included or make sure you explicitly say NO.

As we entered the restaurant, the floors were "crunchy", sticky and tacky. I assume they mopped the dining room with the same mop they use to clean the greasy floors in the kitchen. They don't have high chairs, So we spent most of the time with our toddler in our lap. The sweet tea tasted off, sour almost. Had to give it back to the server because I couldn't stomach it. Had my husband taste it, and he immediately agreed that something was wrong with it. The plastic utensils were such a turn off. We're dining in, is it too much of a hassle to give your customers actual silverware?? Got fish and grits. Potatoes, toast and eggs. Honestly, the only flavorful item on my plate was the potatoes and eggs. Was upcharged to add cheese to my grits, but the cheese never melted. Pre shredded bagged cheese is what they have on hand it seems. My husband ordered shrimp and grits and asked for a side of eggs, but that arrived 15 minutes after we all received our food. Not sure why it took so long so cook up 2 eggs for him. He was also disappointed in his brunch. It was obvious they used frozen bagged shrimp. Probably the 26-30/lb because the shrimp were really small and had the nerve to be overcooked. Workers just seemed disheveled. Not sure what happened to Vondas but it fell off for sure. I have seen reviews on YouTube thru…read morethe yrs and just heard of the location by name since it's been around so long but this weekend was craving a slice and wanted to start knocking off some of the places I had on my list to visit. The location itself is a combination of everything I like...somewhat dim lighting, long tables, long bar, booths, and hometown/locals feel. So...haha...a tavern...Parking is ample immediately adjacent to the bldg and there is also an overflow lot if you can't find a spot in the main parking lot. Menu has their specialty pies/standard food offerings and they have a chalkboard inside with their specials and drink specials. Pizza is a thin bar style pie. Very thin crispy crust which I prefer because it allows you to eat a few more slices without feeling full or dead tired from dough/carbs. We got a white pie and a buffalo chicken pizza...concluded things with their desert pizza which has apples, butter, walnuts, cinnamon, and sugar. All three were spectacular! Everything I had seen on YouTube from folks like JL Jupiter praising the location were spot on! Ingredients were all fresh. Pizza was crisp. Service was fast. The staff was welcoming and pleasant. Stefania was our waitress and she was great. Attentive, checking in regularly, clearing the table promptly and brought the check out without us having to wait long. I have nothing negative to say about the pizza or the experience. Drove about 40 mins to get there and it was well worth the drive. If you like thin crust pizza and that true tavern vibe/experience this has to be on your list of pizza restaurants to try. Has to be.

The wings were crispy and had a lot of sauce. We all enjoyed the pizzas even though bar style isn't our favorite. The only thing to note is my friend ordered a Blue Moon beer and never got it even though she even reminded them again. By the time the meal ended she was too full for a beer anyways. Honestly we don't even know if we got charged for it because we didn't examine the receipt before we paid by cash. Besides that everything went well and we would recommend this place.
