Saw some good reviews of this place and wanted to check it out. It's off a main busy road so was glad it had available parking lot. Colorful outside and inside reminded me of a bus stop diner. There's some table seating but also counter seats. Small place so more of a takeout spot. I ordered the small jerk chicken meal that came with rice and peas and cabbage. I ate it when I got home. The chicken was nicely flavored. Rice was good but didn't have any peas and there wasn't much cabbage. It was okay in my opinion. read more

I was recently in Jamaica so comparing to that experience. Note that I only ate jerk chicken in my hotel, which I'm assuming is average (or even below average) compared to the good spots there. How did this compare? Well it was okay. It's not spicy at all, although still flavorful. The chicken is cooked well (its juicy), although its not cooked to order, so doesn't have that fresh grilled taste. Pricing is very reasonable though, hence the 4 stars. Parking is easy, as they have a lot. Note: prices on grubhub (via yelp) are a few dollars higher than the menu prices, so I recommend calling in your order. read more

The service was amazing upon stepping into the establishment. The owner greeted us immediately. She offered samples and suggestions. Between the six of us we got the curry chicken, curry goat, jerk chicken and oxtail. We also sampled the Bulla it was delicious Jamaican dessert. I didn't hate the food; it just wasn't very good. The cabbage was dry and overly salty. The rice and peas (or maybe the jerk sauce on top?) had a sweet taste rather than the smoky, spice that I was expecting. The chicken was pretty juicy, but the jerk sauce wasn't very flavorful or spicy, and the flavor wasn't all the way through the meat. Found this gem of a spot in Irvington, NJ. The best service I have ever experienced. They all made us feel like family. They started off with a tasting menu of oxtail, Jamaican jerk pork, and Jamaican jerk chicken which was all absolutely delicious. We all decided to go with oxtail. Went on a Sunday around 12pm. The inside was nice. Has indoor seating if you choose to eat in and the staff was very friendly. I ordered a large oxtails with two sides (rice and beans, cabbage) and a large Jerk chicken with two sides(same as above). Each platter comes with two sides and plantains. So, the oxtails and chicken were both dry. They tasted as if they were reheated from the day before as opposed to being freshly made the day of. Additionally, the rice with the jerk chicken platter did not come with sauce poured over it and as such was dry and lacked flavor. (I would recommend asking for jerk sauce poured over the rice and chicken). The plantains and cabbage were good. Overall, I was a little disappointed at the meat and rice. I will go again but probably at a different time of day when the food is likely to be fresh. read more

There are not very many Caribbean restaurants in the neighborhood and the couple that are here have to be put to the test. This place is small, so to dine would be quite cramped. I usually order my food to go and I usually order from here when I'm really tired of the same fast food places and want something different, like a really good cooked meal. I think the service is ok. I think the prices are a bit high, but everything has gone up by at least 20-30% since the pandemic. Their food is pretty decent. The jerk pork and chicken are tasty and not as spicy/hot, so it's bearable once it hits your mouth Their rice and peas could really be bit more on the shelly side and not so soft and together. I'm times past, your jerk meats were usually served right from the jerk pit, but now it seems, they go to the back of the restaurant (I presume where it's already cooked and stored) to get it. This place doesn't give an authentic Jamaican feel, Jamaican vibe or Jamaican taste. The food from this place is a HELL NO! When I went in there it was a Spanish guy who went in the back and made the food. He wasn't even of natural Jamaican descent. I cannot believe this is considered a Caribbean restaurant. They need to visit the Caribbean and do some soul-searching on Jamaican food and how it is cooked season, prepared and how it is served. I walk in and the smell hits me, immediately I'm transported back in time to memories when I was a child in my grandmothers kitchen back in Romania....crazy how it did that just by smell alone. Incredibly caring atmosphere, just by the amount of care put in the meals gives this place a perfect store. They allowed us to taste any meat that we wanted as well as even gave us a Rasta Pasta on the house. They were incredibly kind throughout the entirety of the stay. The food was also great, tasted home cooked. I got a Large Jerk Chicken & Small Ox tails, both of which the portions were large and sufficed. The sauce and seasoning for the jerk chicken was amazing. The restaurant features home style cooked meals available for dine in and for take out, with catering availability as well. They have bar stools, and booths for seating. I visited PT Just Jerk on a Saturday night, 30 minutes before closing time and was able to try almost every dish in the menu. There wasn't any concern here with closing time affecting food quality at those closing times like many other businesses including warmth, quantity, quality or service. The food and service here were superior and the dishes I tried were delicious and fresh. I was very impressed when a regular customer walked in 10 minutes before closing hours and the owner accommodated his order of fish despite that taking at least 30 minutes as it was prepared fresh, especially after he mentioned his ill mom who isn't eating the hospital food nearby. If Jamaican grandma eats here, then there is no doubt I was in the right place. Must I say the interior was simple, and doesn't reflect the quality of the food. I literally just finished eating my takeout and felt obligated to show this place some love because it was that good. I am still licking some oxtail gravy from my upper lip as I type because wasting it on a napkin would be wrong. The smell in the car was something serious. You can smell the ambers from the grill on the chicken (that's a good thing). Got home and got right to it. The chicken is fresh, juicy, well seasoned, a light smokey taste from the grill and the sauce was very good. The reason I came was because I was in the mood for oxtails. My search took me to Just Jerk and I'm so glad it did. You only need a fork or spoon to mix it all up and have a vehicle to get to your mouth.
