Stopped by Jerkies for the 1st time recently during lunch hour. I didn't want to order a huge meal so I settled for trying the egg rolls. I ordered the griot and jerk shrimp ( they were out of the griot) as takeout. I waited longer than I would have liked for the order to be ready. The eggroll was fine but I wasn't impressed. It wasn't as crispy as a traditional eggroll and it was mostly plantains as the filling and not enough shrimp.

We ordered: Jerk Chicken: The chicken was hot and well seasoned. Not your typical Jamaican jerk meal. They didn't use traditional Jamaican rice & peas like I'm use to maybe this is where the Haitian fusion comes into the cuisine. Rasta Pasta: Creamy, hot and has a spice. Overall pretty good. However when I ate it there was a small piece of metal wire in the dish the length of a nail luckily I didnt chew on it to harm the inside of my mouth. Plantain: Very sweet! Would recommend

I heard good things about this restaurant and gave it a try. When I arrived I found parking on the street nearby. I walked into a cute restaurant. I met the two chefs, Sara and Jeff. I ordered the jerk shrimp, black rice, cabbage/collards, and the mac au gratis. It came out in about 15 minutes. It looked great and tasted pretty good. The shrimp was a little salty, but all in all, the food was good. I really liked the mac!

Ale: I ordered the jerk chicken lunch special. The chicken itself didn't have much flavor to go for it and the rice was average. The beans were dried out with didn't help. The service was nice though. Alo: I ordered the jerk chicken gyro lunch special. It was really good. The plantains helped with the chickens flavor and was really juicy. I enjoyed it a lot. It would help if it was bigger. The fries were okay. They were dry.

Service is great! Good food, tastes authentic and fresh. Will be back to try some more items on the menu.

So I discovered Jerkies on IG and thought I'd give it a try. I ordered some jerk chicken and Rasta pasta ( I LOVE Rasta pasta so I was eager to try theirs). Ok so boom, the jerk chicken was ok. The seasoning on the meat under the sauce was good. The sauce tasted like some type of bbq sauce. It was ok. I'm not crazy about "saucy" jerk chicken but this one wasn't bad. Now the Rasta pasta was good. They use small penne pasta which I don't mind, just different than what I was expecting but still ok. The sauce in the Rasta pasta was nice. Not too spicy but not flat either. Somewhere isn't the middle I'll say. It was decently seasoned as well. I appreciate the FRESH cut peppers throughout the dish! Fresh veggies really make a meal taste soo good. Overall this dish was good. The sautéed cabbage, this was ok. I LOVE cabbage! It came in a brown paper bowl like container and it was sautéed with onions. I thought the girl said it was cabbage and collard greens but I could've misheard. It was good though. It was also FREAH! I could definitely taste the freshness. Lastly I got a cup of lemonade. Now this lemonade was different. Idk why i feel like it had coconut water in it. It really definitely gave me a coconutty lemonade taste, BUT, I liked it though! The ambiance in this place is amazeballs. It's smedium size, but it's very cozy and welcoming. LOTS of green. I actually didn't mind sitting down and eating my food here it was soo cozy. Clean countertops, clean floors, everything CLEAN. The service here is IMPECCABLE! The cashier was extremely pleasant, kind and helpful! She helped me and the other customers with grace and a smile all through out. I appreciate that! The gentleman from the back (I think maybe the owner, not sure) let my try an oxtail while I was trying to figure out what I wanted. He was JUST as kind and pleasant. I forgot to take a picture of the menu here but I'm hoping they add beef Pattie's and other Pattie's soon! Give them a try though, I definitely enjoyed the food and atmosphere and customer service.

#AfterWeLawyerWeEat. #FirstTimerAlert. Jerkies, Elizabeth, NJ. Jamaican Cuisine. Pictured: Pineapple Soda, Jerk Chicken, Rice & Beans, Plantains, Collard Greens, and Jerk Shrimp. Located almost across the Street from Union County Court. It's a small little shop. Sat at the Window. Decor and interior were clean and unimpressive. Jerk Chicken was flavorful but didn't pack as much punch as I had hoped. Rice and Beans & the Plantains, the Stalwarts. The Collard Greens/Cabbage were the best of the dish. Refreshing and packed with flavor. The Shrimp didn't take on the Jerk flavor as well as the Chicken. Hearty meal, did the job. Price point a little higher than expected, but glad I gave it a try. #MajorLeagueGrubbin #NomNomNom

Caribbean fusion (Haitian/Jamaican) restaurant in Elizabeth. I first had this restaurant when it opened in the spring of 2023 and that was a great experience. Since then the food has fallen off in my opinion and I've gone multiple times before writing this review. -The Haitian dishes are better than the Jamaican items. It seems that they are rushing in the food preparation. -There are certain dishes that are consistent such as the gyro dishes, fish, black rice, and macaroni au gratin. -The jerk chicken has consistently been dry (over cooked) and not spicy, jerk wings have a rubbery texture versus falling off the bone, the rice and peas do not taste authentically Jamaican, the oxtail can be hit or miss and the veggie melody (cabbage/collard greens) does not have much flavor. The coconut curry corn which initially was my favorite dish has really fallen off, the curry has been overpowering the corn and is not well balanced. -My biggest pet peeve with this restaurant is the wait time and consideration. For example, last week I placed my order via phone for pick up and was told it would take 20 mins. I arrived 20 minutes later and was told it would be another 15 minutes. I did not receive my order until an hour after I initially placed it. This was not the first time this occurred. I find this to be unacceptable! -My recommendation is that the kitchen needs to do better food preparation to do reduce wait times while not compromising the flavor. -There is room for improvement as I would like to see them thrive but all of these things need to be worked on immediately.

It was easy to find parking nearby on the street, we walked in and were immediately sat down. Service was great throughout the meal. The server did speak primarily to us in Creole. I can see how that may not work for someone who is not Haitian. Maybe having someone who did speak a mix. However, he was very nice and the food came out fast and was delish. Shared a griot fritay to start and it was definitely tasty and portion was good. For entree I had the legume with Beef with black rice. Tasty, spicy, and very authentic tasting. I can say they stay true to the flavors and don't water them down. The drink was ehh. I did not taste much liquor in the creole punch. Not worth it in my opinion. In terms of ambiance, I wish better music was playing. The set up was cool. Nothing amazing. If I was in the area again, I would come back.

I will mention one thing I stated to the bartender....The bar chairs are INCREDIBLY uncomfortable. These seats were not made to fit full size adult derrière. Good vibe.
