Decent prices for decent drinks. The food seems cheap but portions are small and the food is incredibly bland and mediocre. But if you like flavor of any kind at all in your food go somewhere else. This is a great bar to catch up with a friend over drinks and a dessert. We didn't try the actual food, but who needs real dinner? Service was excellent, and the interior of this bar is gorgeous. Apparently Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol here, so there's definitely history. There's an extensive drink collection, so no matter what your alcohol preferences, they'll have something. I had the "Perfect Martini," which was indeed perfect. Also strong. They don't skimp on the booze here. While you're savoring your cocktails, don't forget to have a piece of Boston Cream Pie! It's delicious and well worth it, especially if you're a visitor to the town. Ever since the first time I passed the Omni Parker House, I've had it stuck in my head that this is where the Boston Cream Pie was born! And I've proceeded to tell all my family and friends, every time we passed by. Over 2 years and dozens of visits later, I finally stepped into the historic hotel for a taste! Unfortunately, the restaurant itself was closed for the afternoon. Our remaining options? 1) Giftshop or 2) Order at the bar. We checked out the gift shop, which is much brighter and modern than the beautifully dark lobby, and then decided to pick out some seats at the bar which opened up at 4. There were three of us, and due to the HIGH HIGH price of a single "pie", we split one order. It came on a beautifully decorated plate w/ whipped cream and strawberries--perfect for camera wielding tourists such as ourselves! The cake was tasty, the windows were perfect for people-watching, and if I felt like splurging, I would've ordered a nice cup of tea or a latte to enjoy with my cake! For my inaugural visit, I arrived at this bar ensconced in a corner of the historic Omni Parker House with a pair of guests interested in finding a Boston Cream Pie and a decent clam chowder. Here, we hit both. A bit pricy for what it was, but I had arrived with a 3 course meal deal for 2 in hand, so we ordered the two bowls of New England Clam Chowder ($11), a JFK Lobster Roll ($21), two Chicken-Waldorf salads ($15), and one of their famed Boston Cream Pies ($8). This was plenty for our three appetites. While the warm nuts that graced neigboring tables did not magically appear at our table (we had to ask for them - I tend not to be shy about such things), our waiter did offer to plate our 2 bowls of chowder as 3 cups ($8 for a "crock") for our convenience. This was a nice and unexpected gesture, which we appreciated. The chowder was served in pretty matching china cups and plates, piping hot, and thick and creamy with a decent portion of smaller chunks of clams and potato. A very good rendition of the chowder indeed! And with the tasty Parker House rolls and oyster crackers, we were nearly full already! But we still had our entrees to contend with. My lobster roll was a toasted roll decently filled with not overly dressed meat. I didn't get the feeling that it was all claw meat like I did at Panera Bread recently. The cole slaw was okay, but wasn't the sweet sort that I prefer, such as the one served by KFC. The salads looked good, and was much more than the apple and celery implied by the name of "waldorf." The wine poached pear was rather winey however, and not particularly tender despite its poaching bath. The Boston Cream Pie, as you may know, is not a pie. As a cake with a custard layer sandwiched within, topped with chocolate and encrusted with nuts, it was good, but not exceptional. But at least my guests could go home and say that they've experienced it. The bathroom is shared with the Parker's Restaurant - head out the bar, head right and go towards the Parker's Restaurant and head up the stairs... you'll find it. 5 stars for Gabi!! What a nice hosted. So generous and accommodating. Gabi was very kind. And this review is just for picking up the famous Parker House rolls. You can pick up frozen ones too! I called ahead and ordered two dozen from rolls to take to Thanksgiving. The rolls were packed well. But Gabi went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our order.she asked an employee what the instructions were so we would know how to heat them up. This other employee (female, in a black vest the waitstaff wears, and glasses. I don't know her name but she was very helpful too!). This establishment has never been busy when I've gone but the staff is always working hard and always pleasant and professional. They will be open on Thanksgiving and working on a holiday most of us have off so I really want to say thanks and appreciate this staff. Thanks Gabi and all the staff!! read more

This review is in regards for their whiskey selection. Simply put, it was off the chain. Although this place isn't specifically a whiskey bar, I was thoroughly impressed with their selection. I also greatly enjoyed the fact that they offer the option to order samples of whiskey, so you can try before you order a full measure. Their selection was very unique, as I don't think I would have found a lot of their whiskeys even at an actual whiskey bar. I was very pleased. read more

If I could give this place 0stars I would. it feels degrading to be there the lady was rude and id say a bit racist. I don't like to pull the race card but in this case it felt a little intentional. We went in for some drinks and something to eat, it was about 9:50pm the short gray haired waitress did not want to take our order and when she did we had our order ready it was so post to be 2 beers and chowder she said and I quote with her dam attitude"that there is no chowder& the kitchen is closing and we need to hurry up " okay that's fine I get it kitchen can't stay all night but Our drinks took about 15-20 min to get to us and mean while a couple came in sat AFTER us and still got drinks and food before we could even get a glass placed in front of us. read more

Boston cream pie cocktail was delicious I ordered the pretzel bites and turkey sandwich to go. The pretzel bites were really good, but the turkey sandwich was dry and underwhelming. I was disappointed to discover that No. 9 Park was closed on Boxing Day and in search of cocktails near our hotel, we ended up at the Last Hurrah. After deciding on a slice of Boston creme pie with our drinks our server let us know they were not serving food on this particular Saturday night. Thinking it'd be the next best thing, I opted for a Boston creme pie martini. This concoction of vanilla vodka, chocolate liqueur, and Baileys with a cocoa dusted rim was satisfyingly sweet and not unlike drinking spiked chocolate milk. As a hotel bar habitué, the Last Hurrah offered nothing in particular to surprise and delight me but it was proficient in the ways you might expect: prompt service, competent cocktails, atmosphere conducive to conversation and plenty of seating. read more

After a long 90 minutes of touring the freedom trail in the cold wind Aarein A. and I stopped off at The Last Hurrah for a hot toddy and Boston Cream Pie. There were no tables available so we took a seat at the bar. The bartender was trying his best, but I think he was overwhelmed and needed a little help. This led to him forgetting to put the order in for our pie and give us water. The hot toddys were warm but once we saw the martini list I think we were both wishing we had checked that out first. This hotel is where the Boston Cream Pie was invented, but it seems this was a newer version with a chocolate ganache on top and slivered almonds on the sides. I think I would have preferred the old school pie. I'm seriously considering just going for a cider and nuts. The "main course" was the New England clam chowder, and a better bowl I've yet to have. Have you ever walked into a bar and immediately wanted to quote Ron Burgundy? No? Maybe that's just me... but, when we walked into the Last Hurrah, I looked at my husband and gave him one of my best: "People know me. I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany", and after he rolled his eyes at me, we took a seat at the bar. We wandered into the Omni Parker House after dinner in the area looking for a piece of their legendary Boston Cream Pie and a cocktail and were greeted quickly, but rather icily, by one of their bartenders. C'est la vie, I guess I'm not old enough yet to receive the type of service I witnessed happening around me. Well, either that or he heard me follow up my first RB quote with "I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly..." Whichever, I was not really impressed with their service, and all jokes aside (I really don't think he heard me), I always try to be exceptionally polite, so this really irks me. Their cocktail list is extensive and impressive! I ordered a pumpkin martini that was delicious and a glass of whiskey to top of the night and was very happy with both. My husband went for a rum and after having a brief discussion with the bartender about types, was happy with his selection. We also eventually ordered one of their cream pies (the whole point of being there) but sadly, were kind of disappointed with it. I thought the cake was dry, the nuts around the outside only helped to exacerbate the problem and there was very little cream inside. So yeah, a couple of drinks in and we called it a night. We had initially overlooked this restaurant as just "the hotel restaurant" at the Parker House - but that was our mistake. We went in only because all of the restaurants in the neighborhood seem to close at 8:00 pm on Sunday. Last Hurrah was open until 10:00. It had to be done. After watching numerous (okay, at least two) segments on the Food Network paying homage to the original Boston Cream Pie, created at Boston's own Omni Parker House, my roommate and I made the trek to the theater district to give it a try. The actual restaurant was busy and sent us to the Last Hurrah, a hotel bar-cafe, to snag the coveted cake-pie. We stepped into a room Don Draper would be proud of: dimly lit, decently populated on a Thursday night, with cocktails served to clients in mini shakers that could stay at the table. A couple of modern-day touches exist, like the big screen tv playing post season baseball. The service was slow, but did include complimentary water. The prices are reasonable-- 10ish dollars for a cocktail-- and our dessert plates came decorated with the word "boston" written out in delectable chocolate sauce. The pie, you ask? Tasty. Almonds around the side are a nice touch. The cake is the right spongy consistency. I will return, and will most definitely lament that I can't smoke cigars in this old school hotel bar environment. read more

First time visiting Boston and happened to be staying at the Omni.. it was too cold to venture out walking so I decided to stay and eat here. Service was very good my waitress was attentive and very serviceable. I had to try the clam chowder and it was very good. It had just the right amount of potatoes, clams etc. It was just the right consistency. Next course, lamb loaf very good as well full of flavor and the mashed potatoes were great. They were moist and not custard heavy. Since the pies were small, individual pies, it was amazing to have almonds surround the entire pie, having them in almost every bite. Also, the Boston written in chocolate made my touristy heart smile! Although a little pricey at $9 per, I don't mind at all. Got the grilled cheese with tomato soup and a side of coleslaw. The tomato soup was very small and the grilled cheese was just okay. The coleslaw was good but I like coleslaw a lot in general. I felt like the coleslaw and soup should have switched dishes for serving size to be worth what the price of $15. What was the most redeeming quality of the atmosphere of the restaurant. Everything has a very strong 1920s feel to it. Dark wood, lots of brass, dim lighting, lots of detail in the furniture, and a generally older clientele as patrons. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of Boston Cream Pie, so I didn't try the "original", but I would say that Last Hurrah is a nice place to just sit and chat over some drinks, especially on a rainy or snowy day. read more

I was staying locally and decided to stop into the Last Hurrah for a light meal in the bar and a glass of wine. The bar & lounge area is very old and dated. I ordered the French Dip ($19) and a 9 ounce glass of the Oyster Bar Merlot ($13). The bartenders name was Owen and he was pleasant and friendly. My sandwich came out and the appearance of it was laughable. The sandwich maybe had 2 - 3 ounces of meat in it and it looked pitiful. For $19 I would expect that it would be well presented, of good quality, and of a decent size. It fell short in all 3 categories. The sandwich that I was served was maybe worth $8 if that. Bottom line, if your looking for an over priced tourist trap the Last Hurrah is your place. If you're looking for a good quality meal at a reasonable price keep walking. read more
