Boston cream pie
Perry F.

While visiting Boston, we figured trying the original Boston cream pie would be an experience worth while. After some confusion on who has the original, we settled for The Last Hurrah. I believe the Omni Parker House hotel has the original and The Last Hurrah is the bar of the hotel. At around $12 for the dessert, it's pricey, but expected. It's worth it to say you have tasted the original. The hostess and the bartender were welcoming. This was appreciated considering we only wanted dessert. The bar is well lit and has a variety of customers. It's very nice and classy. Swing by and try the original Boston cream pie! It's tasty and you won't regret it.

Not a bad price for the OG Boston Cream Pie.

While visiting Boston last week, I made a dessert pilgrimage to The Last Hurrah, the cozy bar located inside the historic Parker House Hotel. Why? Because legend has it, this is where the Boston Cream Pie was invented. So, when in Rome....right? The hotel? Very cool. It gave "The Shining" vibe...minus the ghosts and bleeding elevator doors of course. But, I didn't come to stay overnight. Just came for the historic dessert, which was served here! I grabbed a barstool, was greeted quickly, and ordered the one thing I came for: "Boston Cream Pie, please." It arrived quickly (maybe a little too quickly) and looked like a work of art----strawberry on the side, chocolate drizzle, whipped cream swirled to perfection. Visually, it was a 10. Taste-wise? More of a polite nod than a standing ovation. I was expecting the triangle-shaped custard-filled, creamy "pie" version you'd find at a diner. This was the OG: which is pretty much a round dense yellow cake, a sliver of cream in the middle, and a subtle sweetness that leaned more classic than indulgent. Also, it was a bit firm for my liking, likely from refrigeration. A little heads-up by the waitress or on the menu that said "Just so you know, this is the traditional version, not the Marie Callender's kind" would have been helpful. Nonetheless, I'm glad I tried it. It's not every day you eat a dessert with historical credentials. Just know it's more cake than cream, and more subtle than sweet. Solid service, great vibe, and a must-visit for dessert historians or people looking for a unique Instagram post...even if it didn't quite hit my sweet spot.

The original evening plans were derailed due to the weather so we decided to have dinner at the hotel. The Last Hurrah is the hotels restaurant and lounge that is beautifully decorated in that old school Omni flair. The pace was pretty busy so we had to join a waitlist to be seated but by the time we had enjoyed one drink at the bar, our table was ready! We were both in the mood for something warm and hearty given the rainy day so we ordered the sirloin tip stew and a pepperoni flatbread! Both were tasty and hit the spot! We both thought we'd not have much room for dessert so we ended up splitting a Boston cream pie which is what this restaurant is particularly known for. I don't really have a frame of reference in comparison to other Boston cream pies but this one was damn delicious! If you get a chance to check out the Omni Parker be sure to try out this restaurant!

We stopped into Omni Parker House for a nightcap at Last Hurrah. Our group of 7 sat in the lounge and enjoyed drinks and dessert while the wonderful Francesco shared some of the great history of the hotel. He was such a delight and so engaging during our dining experience. The Boston cream pie is unbelievably good and so is their cappuccino. I highly recommend stopping in for dessert and drinks.

After three tours had pointed out the Last Hurrah and the origins of the Boston Crème Pie, we had to try it. The restaurants decor was regal and fitting the history that this place has seen. By the time we were ordering, the restaurant was so packed that the only option we had was to take-out. The wait wasn't too bad, around 20 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. The pastry was light and refreshing and had a good layer of chocolate on top. I would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

Great lobster roll! It's $38 but it's well worth it because of the large portion. The ambiance was also great, it's in the hotel lobby. My server was also so sweet and accommodating even though my big group only came in for a roll and a Boston cream pie.

Located within the Omni Parker Hotel, with the entrance next to the Tremont Street side, Last Hurrah is a dependable bar where you can enjoy a drink or two after work or for a night cap if you stay there for a night. Price-wise it's solid if you're intending to enjoy whiskey while you're there, which they have a very good selection. Depending on the time of day you're going, you may need a reservation if you would like a table. They have someone who stands at a narrow stand-alone counter by the front door to control maximum capacity inside the establishment, especially if the tables are full. You might be able to grab a drink at the bar, but if there's already a crowd, they may not permit people to go in until the space opens up. Service-wise, it was ok. The first time I went there for a drink after afternoon sessions, I think was during happy hour, so we didn't see much of our server, so we had to really flag down if we are looking for a second drink or the check. The second time was ok as we returned later in the evening on our second day for a martini. I think the server misheard me as I asked for an extra dirty gin martini, and only did a dirty. It was still satisfactory but I do like what the extra olive juice does, so that was a little disappointing. But overall, their cocktail menu and whiskey menu is very good. And they do have a kitchen if you want to order food as well. If you're staying at the hotel, it's a good spot to start or finish your evening.

Wanted to experience the famous Parker hotel . Dickens stayed here and brought a Christmas carol to America . The Boston cream pie was invented here . Enjoy . Ambiance is incredible as there is a museum on the lower level .

Fantastic atmosphere in Historical Parker house Hotel. Loved the atmosphere. Book ahead if possible or a 30 minute wait in the evening is probably. Have a great "take out" bar to grab something while you wait. Sat at the bar which is 1st come first serve. Bartender was very happy and super service oriented. Great service. Ordered appetizers and drinks and both were well executed. Food was kind of pricey for what it was but would still recommend for the experience.

While in Boston, you have to try the Boston Creme Pie. This place has the original Boston crème pie. It was made in the kitchen of this restaurant attached to the Omni. There is a hostess outside who walked us to our seats. Quickly our waitress came and we put in our order for a Boston crème pie. The pie has strawberry on the side and an amazing whip cream. The pie wasn't my favorite. It wasn't very sweet as I thought it would be. I really liked the design on top of the pie.

I went here for the Christmas decor and it was so cute! There were plenty of open seats which was great since it is walk in only. I got a blue cocktail and it was pretty good. Overall vibes were great

This is a fantastic bar located within the Omni Parker Hotel. There is cozy seating in leather chairs around the bar, as well as normal, high top and bar seating. We sat in the leather chairs facing the street to people watch while enjoying some creative craft cocktails and a lovely Boston Cream Pie. There was one server for the whole bar during a busy Sunday afternoon, but she kept up with everyone quite well. It's pricey, but definitely a great bar if you're visiting Boston.

Came here for dinner on a Sunday at 9 pm. We were greeted then seated promptly. I ordered the lobster roll and the wife ordered the beef stew. The lobster roll had a generous amount of lobster. It was amazing and met expectations! The lobster was fresh and flavorful. I was stuffed after eating the entire thing. The price was $36 which was less than most places. My wife also liked her stew. The Parker bread rolls were out of this world so dont forget those. For dessert we got the Boston Cream Pie. Not what I expected. It was more a cake than pie. It was good. Service was good too.

We also spent an hour at the King Tut exhibit across the street! This restaurant/bar always seems packed. And, with reservations for 645pm (highly recommend) the bar was quite busy. The buzz from this high-end cocktail bar is exactly what you want on a Friday evening; From girlfriends sipping their wine to couples laughing and swirling their cocktails, Moon Bar is for the classy and sexy. Abby our server is excellent! A mixologist who knows all the cocktails and can recommend based on your preference. I tried one of their new cocktails with bourbon and did not care for it. Abby made me my mezcal drink that I have ordered before...its the 305 cowboy, an extremely popular drink. A must try for sure! Note: Some bartenders make you feel guilty for saying something about a drink you ordered and did not like. But, here at Moon Bar, Abby was so gracious to make me something that I will enjoy. Hats off to her:) Food: Since it was restaurant week we just shared everything. For starters we ordered the Tuna Tartare that was excellent. Then, we had Piri-Piri Chicken Thighs that were also good but quite spicy. For dessert, we shared the Caribbean Tiramisu, which was great. It was a tough choice between this and the Guava Cheesecake. We were so full that we ended up bringing home leftovers. Oh, I also forgot to mention we always order their Curry Fries - a must try when coming here Trust Me. My husband doesn't love curry but he loves these fries and you will too. #friesaretodiefor Moon Bar, thanks for being amazing in every way. In advance, I stopped into the hotel to confirm that a gluten-free guest could be accommodated and was assured this would be handled. In reality, the accommodation was inadequate and, at times, unacceptable. While the rest of us were served scones, my stepdaughter was given cut fruit in their place, and told that was all they had to accommodate. The dessert course consisted of what appeared to be basic gluten-free cookies, misrepresented as something more gourmet - egg nog cookies??? This lack of preparation was both disappointing, upsetting and avoidable. The broader experience was equally concerning. We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me. However, the total cost exceeded $500, and the experience did not come close to justifying that price point! Do not recommend.
