New England Clam Chowder
Emily B.

Amazing bar/restaurant inside the famous Parker House Hotel. Of course I had to try the famous clam chowder. May have been the best clam chowder I have ever had!! I had a side of Parker house rolls too. I had two martinis- the hot and dirty martini (delish) and the Boston cream pie martini (sweet and deff an after dinner drink). Great place!!

Fun place to relax and unwind after walking and sightseeing in Boston. Good cocktails, and nice wine selection. Good pub food with good service and fun atmosphere. Get the Boston cream pie, of course. It's better than other Boston cream pie. Also, you can get a dozen or half dozen Parker house rolls warmed with butter. Also, I must have.

Amazing cocktails in a cozy intimate setting. This fabulous bar was on the ground floor of our hotel stay and we went every evening for a bevy. Don't miss this great spot if you're in Boston.

The Scarlet Vetter says... This bar is attached to the Omni Parker Hotel in Boston. As a frequent guest amenity, I was given a ticket for a free drink at this bar and so I stopped in to the bar to avail myself of that. The bar is long and lovely. Deep, rich dark wood lined walls are interspersed with dark graphite painted walls which are decorated with interesting iconic black and white framed photos. Large picture windows line the long side of the bar so if people watching is your thing, there was plenty of opportunity to do that here. The whole look is quite nice. As you can see, my free drink was a very generous pour. I was a bit peckish and was two hours out from dinner so I ordered from the bar menu.....a trio of deviled eggs! Yum! Great place to take a load off and have some small plates!

I like this place a lot! This is the bar/restaurant located inside the Omni Parker House Hotel. I came here every night of my stay because the drinks were awesome. It has an upscale bar vibe, and the staff is friendly and quick. At times, there could be a wait for a table, but even that went by quickly. I did try the food, along with the rolls and Boston cream pies that they're known for. Some food items were really good while others were average. The pie and drinks are the reason to not pass this place up. It's the best Boston cream pie I've ever had and my favorite drink, among allllllllllll the drinks I tried is by far the pistachio martini. Love, love, loved it!

Some desserts are good. Some are unforgettable. And then there's the Boston cream pie at the Last Hurrah, a dessert so iconic, it was born right here in Boston! The sponge cake is feather-light, layered with velvety vanilla custard and topped with a glossy chocolate glaze that's rich but not overly rich. Crushed almonds hug the sides, adding just the right crunch. It's a masterclass in balance, sweet, creamy, and texturally perfect. The Last Hurrah exudes old-school elegance, and when you pair that legendary pie with an espresso Martini and Irish coffee from the bar, it's pure indulgence. The cocktails echoes the dessert's flavors with creamy notes of vanilla and chocolate. The vibe is warm, refined, and steeped in history. You're not just eating dessert, you're participating in a Boston tradition. Plus our bartender was a hoot and we enjoyed his company.

Great drinks and the hot crab dip was amazing. The Omni Parker House is just full of history! Worth stopping in if walking by or staying at the Omni.

Not a bad price for the OG Boston Cream Pie.

While visiting Boston last week, I made a dessert pilgrimage to The Last Hurrah, the cozy bar located inside the historic Parker House Hotel. Why? Because legend has it, this is where the Boston Cream Pie was invented. So, when in Rome....right? The hotel? Very cool. It gave "The Shining" vibe...minus the ghosts and bleeding elevator doors of course. But, I didn't come to stay overnight. Just came for the historic dessert, which was served here! I grabbed a barstool, was greeted quickly, and ordered the one thing I came for: "Boston Cream Pie, please." It arrived quickly (maybe a little too quickly) and looked like a work of art----strawberry on the side, chocolate drizzle, whipped cream swirled to perfection. Visually, it was a 10. Taste-wise? More of a polite nod than a standing ovation. I was expecting the triangle-shaped custard-filled, creamy "pie" version you'd find at a diner. This was the OG: which is pretty much a round dense yellow cake, a sliver of cream in the middle, and a subtle sweetness that leaned more classic than indulgent. Also, it was a bit firm for my liking, likely from refrigeration. A little heads-up by the waitress or on the menu that said "Just so you know, this is the traditional version, not the Marie Callender's kind" would have been helpful. Nonetheless, I'm glad I tried it. It's not every day you eat a dessert with historical credentials. Just know it's more cake than cream, and more subtle than sweet. Solid service, great vibe, and a must-visit for dessert historians or people looking for a unique Instagram post...even if it didn't quite hit my sweet spot.

Boston cream pie

While visiting Boston, we figured trying the original Boston cream pie would be an experience worth while. After some confusion on who has the original, we settled for The Last Hurrah. I believe the Omni Parker House hotel has the original and The Last Hurrah is the bar of the hotel. At around $12 for the dessert, it's pricey, but expected. It's worth it to say you have tasted the original. The hostess and the bartender were welcoming. This was appreciated considering we only wanted dessert. The bar is well lit and has a variety of customers. It's very nice and classy. Swing by and try the original Boston cream pie! It's tasty and you won't regret it.

The original evening plans were derailed due to the weather so we decided to have dinner at the hotel. The Last Hurrah is the hotels restaurant and lounge that is beautifully decorated in that old school Omni flair. The pace was pretty busy so we had to join a waitlist to be seated but by the time we had enjoyed one drink at the bar, our table was ready! We were both in the mood for something warm and hearty given the rainy day so we ordered the sirloin tip stew and a pepperoni flatbread! Both were tasty and hit the spot! We both thought we'd not have much room for dessert so we ended up splitting a Boston cream pie which is what this restaurant is particularly known for. I don't really have a frame of reference in comparison to other Boston cream pies but this one was damn delicious! If you get a chance to check out the Omni Parker be sure to try out this restaurant!

We stopped into Omni Parker House for a nightcap at Last Hurrah. Our group of 7 sat in the lounge and enjoyed drinks and dessert while the wonderful Francesco shared some of the great history of the hotel. He was such a delight and so engaging during our dining experience. The Boston cream pie is unbelievably good and so is their cappuccino. I highly recommend stopping in for dessert and drinks.

After three tours had pointed out the Last Hurrah and the origins of the Boston Crème Pie, we had to try it. The restaurants decor was regal and fitting the history that this place has seen. By the time we were ordering, the restaurant was so packed that the only option we had was to take-out. The wait wasn't too bad, around 20 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. The pastry was light and refreshing and had a good layer of chocolate on top. I would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

Located within the Omni Parker Hotel, with the entrance next to the Tremont Street side, Last Hurrah is a dependable bar where you can enjoy a drink or two after work or for a night cap if you stay there for a night. Price-wise it's solid if you're intending to enjoy whiskey while you're there, which they have a very good selection. Depending on the time of day you're going, you may need a reservation if you would like a table. They have someone who stands at a narrow stand-alone counter by the front door to control maximum capacity inside the establishment, especially if the tables are full. You might be able to grab a drink at the bar, but if there's already a crowd, they may not permit people to go in until the space opens up. Service-wise, it was ok. The first time I went there for a drink after afternoon sessions, I think was during happy hour, so we didn't see much of our server, so we had to really flag down if we are looking for a second drink or the check. The second time was ok as we returned later in the evening on our second day for a martini. I think the server misheard me as I asked for an extra dirty gin martini, and only did a dirty. It was still satisfactory but I do like what the extra olive juice does, so that was a little disappointing. But overall, their cocktail menu and whiskey menu is very good. And they do have a kitchen if you want to order food as well. If you're staying at the hotel, it's a good spot to start or finish your evening.

Classic Boston bar in the Cheers-style. John was extremely pleasant. Decent fortified wine selection and prices are low for the area.

We arrived for our whirlwind 1 day Boston day with a few things planned. The Wig Shop was a spot I had earmarked as a maybe. On the way to Boston by train from New York, I read an article of great bars in all of America, and the Wig Shop had made their list. I showed my gal as we were in route to Boston, and we agreed that Karma was leading us there. I checked about a reservation, but ended up going over early to try and beat the walk in crowd. That worked out great, we had almost no wait. The place was full. There were alot of people enjoying the food menu, which we didn't plan on since we had dinner reservations elsewhere for later. But we got a couple of drinks. There are many types of speakeasies. The Wig Shop is one of favorite kinds, classy. The drinks were alcohol forward, with elegant presentations. It was perfect. First, let's talk AMBIANCE! The space is BEAUTIFUL! Think speakeasy vibes, intimate atmosphere, and plenty of spots to capture some gorgeous pictures. It's giving moody, stylish, and picture worthy! BUT, selfie queens and kings, let me put you on game! It is DARK in there, so if you want those food pics and selfies to come out just right, bring a portable flash. You want to capture the experience without your pictures looking like they were taken during a blackout! LOL. The ambiance is definitely part of the experience, so come ready to enjoy the vibe and get those pictures! Now, let's get into this FOOD! The five cheese mac au gratin was AMAZING! The cheesy goodness was everything I wanted it to be. Five cheeses? YES, PLEASE! This dish was a standout and absolutely worth talking about. Now, the snapper? BABYYYY! Flavorful does not even begin to describe it. That gravy was so good I was practically SLURPING IT LIKE SOUP! When the sauce is that delicious, you do not waste a drop. The snapper and that gravy were a beautiful combination, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The Djon Djon was not my personal favorite, but hubby enjoyed it, and that counts for something! We do not have to agree on every dish to appreciate a great dining experience. My taste buds had their preferences, and his had his! Overall, this was STILL a FIVE STAR MEAL AND EXPERIENCE! Between the beautiful ambiance, the delicious food, and the opportunity to experience what this chef is creating, it was a memorable visit. I genuinely cannot wait to see where this chef lands next! I love discovering talented chefs, supporting their craft, and watching their culinary journeys unfold. Black Cat Eatery, you have my attention, and I will absolutely be watching for what comes next!
