I found the Valley Bar from an Instagram ad and was intrigued by a $12.90 (including tax and…read moreprocessing fees) show on a Sunday night, purchased thru the TicketWeb site. I parked curbside nearby using the ParkMobile app, which was under $2 for the whole show. Initially, I had great difficulty finding the bar, but upon searching pictures from Google Maps and asking a bouncer at a nearby bar, I discovered it is tucked away in an alley. A bouncer will check your ID, scan your body with a detector, and check your bag before entering. Immediately, you head downstairs for the general bar area or scan your ticket to enter the performance area. I got there about 50 minutes late, and most/all of the seats were taken up, so I grabbed myself a drink at the bar and stood the whole 2 hour performance. I didn't appreciate how limited the menu was, especially without price transparency. I blindly ordered an amaretto sour for $12 per the bartender's recommendation. It was alright. Overall, I'm impressed with the vibe and frequency of performances here! I will probably not order another drink, but I will continue to support the *literally* underground scene hosted here by Valley Bar!!!

It's a great, small intimate space to see an artist you know well or discover something new. Last time we were there was to see one of our favorites, Black Pistol Fire, this past spring. We love that band and have seen them perform many times, we were happy they played at crescent. They have such great energy during shows and the lead singer always gets into the crowd, last time he went over to the back bar and played guitar on it. Was pretty awesome! This recent time we went to see rapper Intuition from LA. He was opening for Wax & Dj Hoppa. They were new to me, but it was a great hip hop show. Generally the sound is good in the venue and they have a bar up front with some seating. Behind the curtain where the stage is, there's a bar back too. There are also bleachers but I usually don't sit on them, but they are there if needed. Cocktails are like regular bar prices, and good thing, they are quality drinks. I had the whiskey sour and old fashioned. Both were very good with quality spirits. At $16, they should be good and not some afterthought cocktail. They also have beers on tap for like $8. I'll definitely be back for another show at some point. Until then, cheers!

They had a DJ when we were there, which gave the place a fun and lively vibe but it wasn't so loud that you couldn't actually talk to the people at your table. There's tons of seating and lots of different food options, so everyone can find something they like. Staff there seemed friendly as well. He was spinning all kinds of trip-hop, indie, electronic, and remix-style tracks that had everybody partyin'. It wasn't your typical dance music, but every song seemed to connect with somebody in the room. The crowd was incredibly diverse, and it was so much fun watching people of every age and style dancing and nobody cared. The second DJ, a younger woman, shifted the vibe a bit and leaned more toward a younger crowd. It wasn't quite my style, so I took that opportunity to grab a seat at the bar and do what I apparently do best... chat with complete strangers. I'm a talker, and thankfully they seemed just as happy to strike up a conversation. This isn't some fancy cocktail lounge, and that's exactly the point. It's authentic. There were people dancing at the bar, grooving in their booths, bouncing in their seats, and filling the dance floor with great energy. I came by myself, and within minutes a cool group of strangers invited me to squeeze into their booth like we'd all come together. That's the kind of place this is. At one point they even offered me a glass of beer from their pitcher. I politely declined (look at me making responsible life choices... sometimes), but then I realized almost everyone had pitchers! So I sauntered over to the bar. I did have to wait a bit; apparently chivalry doesn't extend to letting a woman cut the line, but once I reached the bartender, the service was fast and friendly. Every trip back to the bar was the same. No complaints there. As the night went on, the energy just kept building. Before I knew it, I was on the dance floor sweating, smiling, and dancing with complete strangers. After a while, I had to retreat to the patio just to catch my breath before heading back in for more. My ankles are still sore... and the glutes? Fuhgetabouttit! The best part of the night wasn't the music or even the drinks. It was the people. Every generation was represented. Every fashion style imaginable. Every personality. And somehow it all worked. Sound acoustics are excellent. One of the best venues in Phoenix area for sound quality. Parking can be challenging and frustrating. Frankly I have given up on parking in downtown Phoenix and prefer to ride the light rail from Gateway CC for free. Your game or event ticket is your light rail pass as well. We go early, enjoy a nice meal and comfortable arrive at the venue on time. The security check was quick and efficient. The security personnel were friendly and courteous. The theater staff were also friendly and helpful in directing us to our seats. Food and drinks are expensive. We brought one sealed water bottle a piece with us per the venue's rules. The John Doe Folk Trio started the show, from Austin played for about 30 minutes, were engaging and entertaining. They had a Johnny Cash sound and vibe. They were followed by Lucinda Williams, played for about 45 minutes. Very nice show considering a recent stroke, an inspiring performance. Bob Dylan played for about 90 minutes. Very stoic with a dark back lit, shadowy setting. He performed a few classic but mainly performed new material. No video or photos allowed, strictly enforced. I was glad we were in the pit to get a good look at the legendary musician and song writer.
