Over the past two years or so, LEL have been adding shows in the Stoner doom genre. It was the first chance I got to see a live event here. I'm so glad that the promoters are using this venue. I don't remember any food or a food truck of any kind. That's cool. The bar staff has always been very kind even if you're just passing by. The bathrooms are at the back. Plenty of space to stand and watch the show. They do have a great sense of ambience. Not just the decor of the venue, but how it's set up. They have these garage doors that can open up. So that's cool if you wanna like hang at the patio but still listen to the band. The patio area is where the merchandise is usually located. Even the people that greeted you and asked you about the usual ID, tickets, etc... I was recently at a venue and the person asking about the tickets or taking the money wasn't exactly nice. Luckily, I knew some of the security, she was totally cool. anyway, aside from the ambience in the venue, the stage has its own. Decent size, great lighting, and they might be using a hazer. The sound has always been impeccable. They have it locked in. There are some bands that I was questioning the mix at other venues, but they seem to have it dialed in, especially with vocals. Overall, if you like going to bar shows, go check out the place. read more

Last Exit Live is one of my favorite small music venues in town. Parking is usually pretty easy and it's much simpler to get to now that the south Phoenix section of the light rail is open. They always have great local and national acts. I like that when the weather allows, they can roll up the doors so you can hear the music on the patio as well as inside. Sound is great. Drink prices are reasonable. Staff is friendly. No food, so eat before you go. And it's got one of the coolest green rooms in town. read more

Came down here the other night to catch the Michigan Rattlers show. First time here, and I left impressed! The venue is tiny, which is awesome! I love how they have the outdoor smoking area where you can grab a seat for a minute, or as long as you want. I'm not the biggest fan of true SRO places. Every now and then, you just need to sit down for a minute or so. This place has you covered! Sound was GREAT! Perfect sound whether inside, or sitting outside on the patio. I got a Coke to drink ($3.00). Plenty of parking out front and in the back (I parked in the alley...there are a couple of spots back there). I had a great time and will definitely look to come back and see another show soon. read more

Last Exit Live is a great smaller venue. Pros - Great service at the bar - Smaller venue so easier to get near the stage - Friendly staff - Clean venue - Decent bathrooms - ice water was provided - Some limited seating Con: - Parking was extremely limited even on a Tuesday night. Plan to arrive very early or park far away and potentially get a Waymo to get you to the venue. One review mentioned safety concerns. I never felt unsafe however it is downtown so stay alert as always. I would definitely return for future shows. read more

I really enjoy Last Exit live. They have a number of shows throughout the night and while some of the earlier acts are new and trying out their material, everything is a fun good time! They have drink minimums so even if you get free entrance tickets you will be walking out paying alot of money. Unfortunately with that in mind it isn't something you can catch every weekend but when you do it is enjoyable. Go catch some comedy! Just bring your cash! read more

We saw Black Joe Lewis here on a Wednesday. Definitely not bad for a small dive bar! We had a great time and the energy/vibe was great all night. Seating is limited so keep that in mind, but overall a great experience. I would definitely go back. read more

Saw a show here last month. Pretty straight forward, good service, good prices, and a great sound system.

Went to 3 shows here over 2 weekends, Surfer Girl, Vana Liya and Kbong. I can't say enough good things about the staff both at the door and the bar. Everyone was really friendly and even when slammed, still very attentive. Had to email the venue a couple times and I always got a prompt response with accurate answers. Definitely hope to go to more shows here in the future. read more

Tonight was a Motown special at Last Exit!! They played "Cupid" by Amy Winehouse, I'm in heaven. They have a small beer draft list but the conversation with the bartender was priceless. The DJ's killed the turn tables tonight!! Loved it..... The two of them spinning the records into gold!!!! The big screen with Soul Train playing was awesome.... It reminded of the movie Crooklyn (Spike Lee Joint) I had a blast and I never want this to be my Last Exit!!!!! read more

I went here for a Rob Riccardo concert, never had heard of the place before then. It was an intimate setting where you can enjoy the artist playing. I had whatever red wine they had- I think their pinot noir, which was excellent and reasonably priced. The lighting is fantastic, and their sound quality was even better. I have since started checking what artists they have playing as they have some incredible local and hidden talent. read more

I had never heard about this venue until a performer that I follow was playing there. It's a tiny spot with a small parking lot. It was easy to enter and easy to order a beverage. There aren't a lot of seats so if it's someone that you're intent on seeing, get there early or plan to dance all night. The drink prices were very manageable and the sound was very good - sort of surprising for such a small place. I will definitely go back again. I do wish they had under 21 wrist bands or some mechanism so that I could take my teenager with me to a show. He loves Reina del cid but at 15, has to listen to the CD that I bought as he couldn't get in. read more

Well air conditioned great space inside, comfortable patio outside if you want to chat, the sound system is fantastic, the bands they book never disappoint, the drinks are tasty, and there are always interesting, friendly people there. I love that they have so many week night shows, there is always something fun happening. (Weird bonus, the ladies bathroom is nice - an unusual perk for the bars I am used to). read more

I visited Last Exit Live for the first time last night to help my friend record a film session with one of the bands (The Copper States). I was excited for the opportunity to experience Last Exit Live firsthand, though, because I've been meaning to visit for months now. I'll spill the beans early and just say that I was very pleased with my time at Last Exit Live. Having been a musician myself some years back, and having a pretty discerning ear in that regard, there are certain things I look for in a local music venue. Most importantly: sound. Is it too loud? Can you hear the vocals against the rest of the music? Are the stage monitors washing into the crowd's listening experience? Are the lows muddy? Can the room itself handle the audio output of the sound system? I was fortunate because of my reasons for being there to experience not only the main show, but also the sound check beforehand. And I have to say: despite the small size of Last Exit Live, the sound was pretty spot on, and the sound engineer was LEGIT. I'd definitely go back to Last Exit Live. It was a good group there, the interior was spacious despite its small size, and the outdoor patio was a nice little surprise, too. Definitely a "hidden gem" in the downtown Phoenix music scene. The area is a bit sketchy, but I'd consider the visit well worth it. Plus, The Duce is within walking distance, which is AWESOME! Oh, and the owner was super helpful, too. Very interactive and involved, which I enjoyed seeing. Can't wait to go back for another show! Thank you, Last Exit Live crew, for taking pride in what you do and for doing the hard work of establishing yourself as a worthwhile presence in the budding Phoenix community and art scene. I sadly can't speak to the cocktails or drinks, but I CAN speak to the space/atmosphere and the INCREDIBLE staff/ownership. I came in severely dehydrated after a day in the Arizona sun without enough water, and almost fainted in the bathroom. The management immediately welcomed me into their office, gave me everything I could need, and kept checking in on my well-being (despite how embarrassed I was, and how insistent that they not worry about me). They were truly so incredible, and I'm grateful to them--even just from that, who wouldn't want to support this establishment? The atmosphere is dark and fun. Not at all sketchy...feels divey in the best way. Think of Crescent Ballroom. I recommend this place!! read more

Make that zero stars. Please, do yourself a huge favor and refrain from stopping here. Forget about the armpit, this place is the taint of Phoenix, perhaps all of Arizona. Tucson and Apache Junction all have better venues with friendlier staff. Beers are $5.00, 12 oz bottles, and the weakest selection offered. Put away your cards because they only accept cash. (Thank you for being so convenient to your paying customers, btw). Wells Fargo right next door. In the event you are forced to come here because your favorite artist is performing, prepare to be disappointed as the sound system is sorely lacking. The Karaoke machine purchased at your local Walmart is an upgrade to what they've got. Microphone's up 10 decibels, while the music is played at a low roar. Security is a joke. It took at least 20 minutes before anyone got off their ass to throw out an unruly customer. This place is located close to downtown Phoenix. If you are driving from a distance more than .5 miles away, save your fuel, this place is absolutely not worth your time, money and patience. read more

Horrible sound system. Should of been fixed when the first artist complained but this went on throughout the whole show. Never have I been ANYWHERE where the staff puts down the artists. And usually when "fans" get kinda crazy security kicks them out. Apparently it's the artists job to kick out the trash here. BARTENDER NEEDS TO BE OUT OF A JOB. Just little obnoxious details.. The guy working the door didn't know how to put on wristbands. Haha but had a good sense of humor about it The bathroom door was awkwardly heavy.. Like I waited for 2 minutes because I wasn't sure if it was locked and somebody was in there.. I know I'm like 100 pounds but exiting the bathroom the door would shut fast and push me out.. Checked out the Dry River Yacht Club and Diego's Umbrella last night and had a real good time. LEL is certainly in the dive bar category with low light and that slightly rundown feel but it works very well for a music venue. The staff is excellent and actually take the time to talk with you and the solo bartender handled the bar like a pro by himself with a lot of people. I never waited (though I tip good :) ) for a drink and I have not seen a bartender move like that since I lived in NY/NJ area. The doorman was cool and was great to talk to on the way out. The stage though small fit a good six pieces up there and the sound was very very good for such a small room. If you get a chance to see a show here you will be very happy with the sound. The crowd was cool and diverse though I suspect that was more to do with the bands than the bar. I will certainly keep my eyes open for future events here and would love to see more $10 shows like last night. I have so much more fun than the big venues that are asking for ridiculous amounts of money. read more

Been a while for me to see a good live music venue in Phoenix for non-established acts. The owner Brandon is working the bar and they only have beer and wine right now, but a $10 cover to see new acts on a Thursday makes for the kind of vibe like discovering the next Gin Blossoms before they became famous. The downside is the location. The Last Exit is just south of downtown where Central ave. and 1st ave. split. Cabbies don't know how to find it yet, so getting here is an adventure. If you are interested in the music scene of Phoenix, you can't miss checking this place out. read more

Got tickets to see Mike Masse live here a few weeks ago. Wow what a fun night! Had never been to this venue and was a little leery as I pulled up (lol) but what a great spot! Tiny. Seating is very limited. For an event like this it would've been nice to have more chairs, which is why I docked a star. However, the open air effect was great-acoustics sounded awesome. Drink prices were decent, crowd was fun. A great night out. I would definitely come back. read more

Originally Last Exit Live existed in a small Tempe shopping center and bands like Gin Blossoms, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, and The Format had played there. The venue shuttered years ago only to reopen in central Phoenix mere blocks south of Chase Field in March 2013. While the Last Exit Live named lived on through co-owner's, Brannon's, booking live music through the valley, it was finally time to reopen the Last Exit Live venue. This time it was central Phoenix and is the perfect venue for 150~ people in the old Ruby Room warehouse. Last Exit Live forwent a full liquor license to pump more money into the sound system to create the perfect mid-level music venue in Phoenix. Between a near perfect sound system and awesome light system, with a beer and wine license and food trucks on the weekends, this is the place to be. Attended my first show at this place to see Foreign Figures. The place is small but the acoustics are incredibly good. The staff was great. There is no pretense here, just excellent music where the musicians are 3 feet in front of you. If you are serious about enjoying live rock music in Phoenix, this is your first stop. Wish it was just "another chick paranoia" but even my single guy friends said she was belittling them for ordering a beer. & wearing this strange outfit of tube socks, daisy dukes, an ill-fitting cut up t-shirt, backwards trucker hat? She seems very confused. Very. I was sworn at for handing her tip at the end of the night. That's good. The only good thing LEL had going for it last night was the door man, Chris! This place has expanded the geographic scope of the high-quality small venue circuit in the Phoenix metro-area, creating a satellite point of excellence in an adventurous neighborhood. It gets all kinds of cool points for setting up camp on the 'wrong side of the tracks' and staking a claim in the revitalization of warehouse district. I guess it used to be the Ruby Room back in the day, but has been all done-up since then. Aside from that, the place is a legitimately good place to see a live show, with noticeably above-average sound quality and a robust lighting operation (which makes for fantastic live-shot publicity photos, bands!). It is has a swanky lux vibe with velvety red curtains on the stage, but is also intimate and cozy, so you feel like you're at a private party or a speakeasy. The outdoor patio is an equally pleasant place to hang when it's time for a break from the jams, closed in with a nice fence, it's all clean and fresh out there..seems like there's always a light breeze. One of my favorite things about it is the beer on draft. Last I checked, 4 out of their 6 taps were Four Peaks selections, and good ones at that. The other taps were also local brews (Sleepy Dog and SanTan, I think..?). Also, they have one of my favorite wines and also carry cider, which is awesome. They do not have hard liquor, which I'm sure is a bummer to some, but okay by me. Sake, though! Try one of their sake-tinis. They also have a steady stream of good bands, both local and mid-level national touring acts. Whoever's on the calendar usually has some pretty cool stuff going on. As a musician who's performed there, I can say that the sound is top quality on stage (I can hear my vocals better than anywhere), and I dig the side-stage ramp load in. There is a cool airstream trailer in the back that doubles as a green room sometimes which is pretty sweet. The only real drawback (other than that the ladies room is a bit tight for my claustrophobia) is trying to get people to go there as it's just a bit off the beaten path and hard to find if you've not been there before. But once people check it out they keep coming back (especially photographers because it's such a great place to capture live band shots..seriously, I always see them there). Anyway, go to Last Exit Live and check it out. You can wear your nice clothes and they won't get grungy, but there's certainly no dress code either. I like that too. It's not divey nor douchey. Just a nice mix of good stuff...clean and nice and new, but still has tons of character. read more

My friend's band played a show on a Monday night here. I had missed their last six shows so I was obligated to go even though I hate going out on weeknights. And "Last Exit Live"? What is that? Oh, the old Ruby Room. Upon arrival I took a mental note of the venue. It hit all of the right spots. A nice patio for when you need to get away from the music, friendly staff, decent beers on tap, good prices, and a really great looking stage. Let me tell you about the sound, though. I've seen my friend's band play at several venues around town and--not taking anything away from the other places--this place made them sound the best. Loud but with clarity. I feel like downtown phoenix really needed another venue like this since Modified stopped doing shows. I'll definitely be back sometime soon. read more

The bar rules, they have good prices and probably about 10 local beers on tab. No liquor though so they do a lot of sake mixed drinks. This place is one of the best local venues in downtown! As a musician sound and the interaction with the audience are two things I look for in a venue /bar. This place does both of those very well. Whether I am playing a show or just seeing a show the place does not disappoint. You can get right up close to the performers. As a musician you always wonder how it sounds to the audience. I have been told at least a couple of times "that's the best I have ever heard you guys sound". The one thing I really dig as a performer and fan is the curtain for the stage. Nothing is quite like that first note/ chord of your opening song ringing out as the curtain opens! And seeing a band like that is always fun for me too. The staff there are great too. Great Sound, maybe one of the best I've heard in the valley. There's not a lot of seating but it's rock and roll so get over it. You should go buy a ticket to see The Eagles 50 yards from the stage at a casino then. It's a small place and you get to see good shows up close and personal. My only complaints are no alcohol, Beer and wine only...but it's not that big of a deal I guess. read more
