Las Trancas no doubt sells more authentic tacos, it's better than Veracruz by far, yet the beef and pork were not sensational. BUTTTT the beef tongue (Lengua) got me all tongue tied it was so delicious! So solely on that, I give it high marks. The tongue is chopped up and seasoned so don't worry about French kissing a cow, it's not like that. If you have never had tongue before I bet you couldn't tell the difference to thinly sliced beef. The tongue texture gives the beef some bite. Just try it, you'll be buying seconds for sure. read more

Let me start by saying---this is my friend's favorite taco joint in Austin. She LOVES their tacos and raves about them. That being said--I wasn't so impressed I ordered what should have been a trifecta of awesomeness. Cabeza, lengua y tripe. I don't know which one it was, but one came out with the meat so over cooked that the pieces were completely dried out and hard as rocks. Why someone, would see that, and go ahead and put it into a taco and actually serve it to a customer...I have no idea. The next one was half done well, with the occasional rock of dried meat thrown in. And the last one was just fine. All in all....terrible experience. Though, the green salsa is amazing. LAS TRANCAS I found love in your small trailer. Definitely devoted to you for the rest of my life. What wonderful tacos. Tacos that dreams are made of. Came here for a bite on Sunday around 11. There were two other patrons eating. I ordered a chorizo and al pastor both on flour with onion and cilantro. I tried all three salsas. The tacos came out quick and right away I knew I had made one of the better decision in my life. The chorizo taco was delicious and moist. The al pastor taco was the best taco I think I have ever consumed. Everything was hot and flavorful and for 3.25 for two tacos more than worth it. I wish I had ordered more. If you want legit street tacos in Austin, this is the place to get them at, period. They are sooo freaking good!! It took countless times of me driving by thinking "I should try this place" before I finally did and I've been at least 7 times now after going 3 times in the first week alone. I've tried every taco they have and my clear favorites are their pastor, asada, and chorizo. You can also get an asada and chorizo mix by ordering campenchano. Their lengua and crispy tripe ain't bad either. Their tortas and burritos are pretty fantastic as well. Don't sleep on their spicy salsa, known as VIP Salsa. Mario and everyone else I've encountered at this truck's window have been nice and the tacos come out blazing fast. They have covered seating so even on a rainy day there is no excuse not to come here. Did I mention how good their corn tortillas are? They never rip apart and are never too dry. I am from South Texas and down there, we get great authentic street style tacos in an order of about 5 for anything from $5 to $7.50. So when you compare Las Trancas prices, they are not that much more. Now to the best part. Wait, wait. I'm barely getting to this part? Let me add a disclaimer at the front of my review. This info is the most important part! Ok. All done. I had 3 tacos. The pastor pork, lengua (cow tongue), and tripas (fried cow intestines). They were all delicious! I was very surprised at how good they all were. Clean pastor meat with little or no fat. Nice seasonings. The lengua was super tasty and moist if only a tad salty which is quickly washed away if you use salsa and lime juice. The tripas, I must say, were my favorite! They were cleaned super well and fried to the perfect crispiness. If you have never tried fried cow intestine, this is the place to do it. I have no issues suggesting it to a first timer. I bet many a person who took one bite of it not knowing what it was, would first agree that it is very tasty. I tried the 3 tacos I thought were the hardest to get just right and all 3 of those were done exactly like that. Just right. There was almost nobody there and no line so thank god for that. I had: beef cheek, brisket, and steak tacos. My boyfriend had: tongue, beef cheek, and tripe (he likes weird shit like that). Beef cheek tacos were by far the best. We loved them so much we ordered 2 more on top of the original 3. So flavorful and delicious.
