Steak burrito

10 out of 10! This is one of those authentic permanent style food trucks with benches outside and plenty of seating. There was an understandable line to order at the window with a lot of patrons seeming to be from Mexican descent. That's how you know it's good - culture recognizes culture!! We shared a burrito and it tasted fresh and super authentic, as well as being generously portioned! Parking was a little bit difficult because they don't have a dedicated parking lot. You have to park around the area. We looked around for a little bit late at night for some street parking. We placed our food at the window and they gave us one of those buzzers for when the food is ready. We happily ate in their outside patio seating that had plenty of tables and benches and a rooftop area. Lots of people chatting and eating. It felt like a fun, comfortable social vibe to eat with friends.

Torta, it was excellent

Great Tacos, Great Torta. Another successful Austin Food Truck. Off Ceasar Chavez east if I-35 a couple blocks. Parking was easy for me, might be the time I visited. Order at the window, get a buzzer and have lunch on the provided picnic tables. And it is very likely you will have a visitor off the road coming by asking for spare change.

Really really good classic street tacos! I love the bean and cheese taco and the chicken taco is great too. They have a lot of meats to choose from. There is a lot of seating outside the truck. Parking lot is limited and then there's street parking. Food comes out pretty quick. Definitely should be a stop if you are exploring the Austin taco scene!

Tripa was hard, lacked taste Barbacoa was soft and had substance Sauce is what gave it flavor and veggies Each taco comes with two tortillas Plenty of tables outside! All roofed. Nice area with string lights on top. Parking is available by the food truck but it is reduced. Staff is nice!

Bean and cheese burrito

Delicious, reasonably priced and quick tacos. I've been looking for a tripa taco all around austin and finally found it! The tripas were so crispy and flavorful. The food came out so fast and service was great! I'd get the bean and cheese burrito again if I'm ever wanting something easy. The pastor was yum but my star and what id come back for is def the tripas.

Austin's taco truck scene is so abundant that there is practically one in every corner of the city. One of the most popular options has been Las Trancas, located along the busy Cesar Chavez in the heart of East Austin. On any given night of the week, don't be surprised to find a large crowd gathering or lines forming. it's not hard to see why: the service is quick, the outdoor seating is ultra-spacious, and the food is consistently decent. They've turned a taco stand into basically a large patio in one of the most desirable parts of the city. And to answer the rising demand, they've made it ultra convenient for anyone who comes here. There's a good amount of parking, most everyone speaks very good English, and they also accept credit cards. Tacos are in the $3-3.50 range with burritos and tortas for as much as $13. Not backbreaking prices, but certainly not as affordable as the competition. Affordability may just be Austin being Austin. (#1) The asada and pastor are solid meats, but their cabeza, chicharron, and lengua are my preferred options. The barbacoa is more of a brisket and similarly to their carnitas, was a tad dry for my liking. Campechana is definitely worth considering since it's a go-to option for many and has its own dedicated plate at $16. Chorizo, tripa, buche will be my next protein targets for future visits. Lastly, while "las trancas" is literally door bolts, I am fairly sure the name is a nod to the expression "hasta las trancas" which is to the fullest extent / excessively (#2). __________ (#1) Keep Austin weird? Keep Austin expensive. (#2) Which is also how I view my Yelping. #siempreyelpeando

Solid four stars. Great customer service and pretty good food! Food: I got two asada, one pastor and one barbacoa. The barbacoa stands out here! Excellent taco! Full of flavor. Coming in second is the pastor. It was good. The asada was okay. A little too dry for me and lack of flavor. The green sauce is top notch! That alone is 5 stars with the barbacoa. The barbacoa , customer service and green sauce made me change this to 5 star! That was enough to get the nod. The customer service is great! Got me out very quickly with a long line. I'll definitely come back and try more. Great taco stand !

Solid taco truck in East Austin! Is it even considered a truck when they operate out of what is essentially a tiny home? This place came so highly recommended that I came here twice in the same week. The lengua tacos are, hands down, the best thing here. Strike that - these are the best lengua tacos in all of Austin. It's juicy, flavorful, and all around satisfying. The pastor tacos stood out to me as well and it was packed full of meat. I thought the asada was too dry and the chicharron too spicy. Everything is fairly priced and there's plenty of shaded outdoor seating as well. Make sure to get the creamy green sauce for a kick!

I came here with a coworker because we were both craving tacos. I ended up getting 3 tacos (2 chicken, 1 vegetarian), but preferred the chicken over the veggie. All of my tacos were packed full, but super messy to eat since the tortillas are so small. Price was reasonable; it was like $3/$3.25 each I think. Can of soda was $1.50. They have a covered area in the parking lot that you can sit and eat. Lots of birds hanging out in the area, hoping for you to drop something though!

Buche, campechano, cabeza, cabeza

My first taco truck I went to when I moved to Austin and it is still one of my top taco trucks in Austin. There can be a line depending on the time you come, but it moves quickly. They have a variety of meat cuts. My favorites are their cabeza, buche, and campechano. The only cons for Las Trancas, their burritos are not very good and their Al Pastor is very mid/often dry. I miss the days when each taco was less than $2 per taco but gotta accept the changes and cost of living in Austin. If I recall correctly it may be slightly cheaper if you pay with cash than card but don't quote me on it.

By far some of the BEST tacos we've had since living in TX! We prefer the raw diced onions versus the grilled onions that seem to be the norm here, we don't have to ask them to make the switch. It's the little things that makes me want to come back, but not only that, the tacos are so flavorful even without adding the salsa, but it's always a plus to have it on our tacos. Til this day, I'm still thinking about these tacos, my husband and I got 2 of each (asada, al pastor, cabeza, lengua, and tripas). My personal favorite was the between the cabeza, lengua, and tripas! All three were absolute perfection!

Not just your average food truck - it's huge with lots of outdoor space to sit. Quick service and cheap, good tacos and spicy salsa. Simple yet delicious

Quesadilla

Las trancas used to be VERY good. But from a year ago they started getting our order wrong almost every time (including the one in the picture), sending wrong salsas and/or items. And now, they are even putting plastic containers and utils DIRECTLY on top of the food. That's pretty disrespectful and kinda disgusting, considering there's an entire plastic bag to store those.... What a shame.

Are they open at this time?

When I was down there on lockdown, they were still open for "to go" orders, they asked that you did not sit and eat there. Good luck and if you do get food from there, enjoy a asada taco for me lol! 🧡

I've driven by El Alma many times being in the Austin area, but I never went until last Thursday, and after surviving a brief monsoon, I was glad to get a few drinks and eat some good TexMex with my large party just before a wedding. The best way to describe El Alma is that it is TexMex that is Austinified. Everything feels a little more unique and special than your classic TexMex options. I started off with a Mezcal Margarita that put a little hair on my chest and got me going. My group ordered two of their Nachitos, which were these nice nachos. For my main entrée, I got 3 Al Pastor tacos on corn with a side of their rice and beans. Their pastor was served with pineapples, onions, and cilantro with limes on the side. They were great and I immediately crushed them all. I thought their rice and beans were pretty good as well and a step above the typical TexMex rice and beans. The server was pretty attentive throughout our whole visit, and I honestly have no complaints about what they had to offer. Pricing on the meal and drinks was pretty standard for Austin, and I didn't think anything really took me out of the experience. On top of that, for being in Barton Springs, there is quite a bit of parking. I would love to come back at some point in the future and hang out on their rooftop bar because that seems like a lot of fun. Shoutout to El Alma for being a TexMex oasis saving me from the MoPac traffic. RIYL: TexMex, but better than your average

So we were thinking of tacos or Mexican food and my daughter suggested this spot as she had come here with some friends and really enjoyed their sopecitos. I had never had a sopecito! What is that! So we had to try... We were lucky to arrive at the right time (9 pm!) where we got their last table!! Make reservations or something because this is another one of those places that fills up! So- we were taken care of immediately: chips and some very hot salsas were set on the table while we chose. They menu is in QR code format, but we asked and got paper menus as well. Well I got the chicken sopecitos , my daughter got the pork ones and my partner got the meat tacos. Everything was delicious, the food arrived promptly, the portion size was perfect and bountiful and everything was super enjoyable. I really enjoyed trying some New Mexican favorites.
