The Cuban sandwich was a rip off and disrespectful to anyone who's had a real Cubano. Kind of a shame being in Florida so close to home and not being able to make your own food the right way(assuming that you are Cuban based off of the name and If you're not that's a shame and y should change your name). Come here often. Last two times the service was terrible. Our waitress blamed it on short staff, everyone else was helped many times except our table of two, we were ignored and handled with attitude. Happens to be the same waitress the last two times. Ha. We have already been to Copacabana so thought we try this place. Service was "polite" (like the previous Yelper said) albeit the confusion about the "two for one" margarita deal. We were never told that you can only have "two for one" for only one flavor of margarita; and, they also bring both out at once. We ended up with two drinks per person. Why would we want to double fist margaritas at noon?! The ice will melt in it by the time we finish one. The waiter sounded all exasperated as if it's very common the all their patrons want both their drinks out at the same time. Eh. We ordered several items. The Cuban was dry and lacking meat. The steak skirt with one of the entrees was delish and well marinated. The paella was lacking seafood; it had good flavors. We ended the meal with the cheese and guava empanadas which were tasty. First time in Mt. Dora and we wanted to get some Cuban food. The place had good reviews so we gave it a try. Jon was extremely helpful in answering our questions and recommending our food. My husband got a garlic Cuban sandwich and margaritas and I got an appetizer as my main dish (tostones rellions- fried plantain cups filled with meet). I chose the mix of pork and garlic shrimp. AMAZING. It was bursting with flavor.. it came with four cups but it filled me up. 4 stars due to the price and my husband said the drinks were mediocre- but the location and flavor makes up for it. Great cuban food, been many times, never disappointing.

Food was acceptable though they lacked the options of the well-loved Copacabana. The only vegetarian options I had were salad and a la carte sides. The service was friendly and pretty fast. The drink menu was vast and cheap, cheaper than Copa as Las Palmas is 2 for 1 all day long. I probably wouldn't go here again when Copa is a street over and has much more to offer. read more

I am going to just state the facts and allow you to decide. We arrived at the restaurant last night (5/19/2018) around 8pm. As we approached the door an employee, I'm guessing he was management, was arguing with the hostess in a raised aggressive voice. After about a minute or two of heated words, the hostess finally acknowledged us. We were seated right away. As we followed the hostess to the table, we noticed the floor was extremely slippery with a grease film. We had to carefully walk to avoid slipping and falling. Our server was wonderful at first and helpful. We were seated next to another table with a party of at least 20. There was a live singer in the corner of the restaurant, she was pleasant, lively and fun. Between the singer and the guests, the volume in the restaurant was the loudest volume I have ever experienced in a sit down restaurant. The server was unable to hear our orders and it took a lot of effort to communicate with our server over the noise. Of course our table conversation was impossible and we were unable to hear each other. The large party next to us constantly bumped our chairs and table. The individuals were constantly waking around their table and bumping us, because of the crowded table spacing. This tables party also broke several glasses, vases, and table condiment glassware. Which caused even more chaos. We noticed a couple of ladies were unable to walk around the table in their high heels, due to the slippery floor. So they both decided to remove their shoes and walk around barefoot. Our food was served in an average amount of time. We watched as the hostess wiped down and was prepping the table next to us. We quickly noticed a cockroach run across that table and the hostess just wiped it up with her rag. We all stopped eating and tried to communicate about what we just observed. Shortly after, another cockroach ran under another table next to us. That was our limit. We tried to get our servers attention, but we were unable to. Then another cockroach ran under my daughters chair. She was panicked and scared. I then stood up, to gain attention of the waiter. I informed him of the cockroach and he literally shrugged his shoulders at me and walked away. We were completely grossed where we couldn't eat. We were ignored for 15 minutes until I requested our check. I did get to-go-boxes for all the food. I wanted to keep the food for proof in case we ended up with food poisoning. As we waited for the check we took a closer look at the condition of the restaurant. The mid and lower walls are covered in dried dripping white stains. The edge and corners were thick with dirt, food, and bugs. We saw a total of 6 cockroaches last night. There was literally whole pieces of bread laying on the floor, there was also other pieces of food littered throughout the restaurants floor. This was our experience in its entirety. I am researching this restaurants last food service inspection. And also researching how to report these major concerns and violations. read more

I walked in with no prior expectations. So I saw that they had a Cuban burger or, frita as it is better known, and decided to give it a try. I was not let down. Also, ordered the marequitas which are fried green plantain chips served with a garlic mojo. Delicious. The burger, however, is the true highlight here. The depth of flavor brought me back to the very first frita I tried in Miami, many years ago. So for that reason alone, I will return for this sandwich. Our food was four stars but the service was two stars so I averaged it out to three. First of all I've been to the original Las Palmas in Sebastian , Florida and it was incredible. I mentioned that I lived in Deland and our server brought up their sister restaurant located in Mt. Dora. My wife and I tried it last week and had very mixed thoughts on the experience. Pros... The food is great and Mt. Dora is a quaint little town that's neat to visit. Cons... Service was fair to poor. Our server disappeared numerous times not to be seen for long intervals. I don't appreciate having to look for soda refills and take out containers for leftover food. The restaurant only had four other tables so it wasn't like they were packed with people. The worst issue though was the piano player/singer. He was ungodly loud and literally went from table to table singing at the top of his lungs. Now I have nothing against singers in restaurants. Las Palmas in Sebastian had one when we were there but he wasn't intrusive and did a good job of lending to the Cuban style atmosphere of the restaurant. This guy was just LOUD. I literally couldn't hear my wife across the table talking to me. It looks like the Mt. Dora restaurant is trying to sell itself as upscale and trendy as opposed to just having great service and food. Will I go back? Probably. The food is great ( Get the fried plantains and the flan) and I love Cuban food. I can pretty much guarantee though that I'll go on a weekday without a singer to avoid permanent hearing damage. It's too bad too. The singer is talented but insanely loud. My recommendation for this restaurant though is to return to your roots. Take notes from your original restaurant in Sebastian and focus on giving great food and service and work less on being trendy. read more

Nice to have a legit cuban restaurant in Mt. Dora. I am a fan for sure. Went their recently had almost zero wait and the wait staff is so nice and friendly. Every day their is 2 for 1 specials btw. One my last visit, My husband and I split the carnes de empanada (beef empanadas) and the PIcodillo and had two beers. side of yellow rice and black beans and also some maduros. the black beans should be mentioned because the seasonings they use are amazing, with the bay leaves. Rice cooked perfectly and maduros were on point. I love Picodillo with the spanish olives. One entree is enough for 2 people, especially if you split an appetizer and they were nice enough to get us another plate. I hate leaving a resturant with a styofoam container of leftovers so just order accordingly depending on your hunger level. Location can't be beat and located in my beautiful hometown of Mt. I'll advice the owner to put cameras at the location so they can be aware of the quality of service that is being rendered to customers. I tried to eat there Sat night 5/29/21. Went up to the lady at the podium outside and she told me to hold on a min and she took a long time before she got back to me. I asked if I could be seated outside, so I sat at the closest table to that podium. She said 'oh I'm sorry the table is dirty' so she went inside to get cleaning supplies. I sat there on my phone waiting since she didn't give me a menu. Another waitress came out and I assumed she was going to clean the table, but nope. She set her drink down on my table (it said 'Lacey" on it) and sat down at my table w her back toward me! Lol she must have thought I was loitering and not a customer. I waited prob 5 min and nobody came out. I was starving and had already had two negative experiences so I went thru the Wendys drive thru and was satisfied lol! Not sure if that night was a fluke or what. Hope so. I wish them well as I'm sure they have taken a hit this year. But more training could be helpful. read more

My friend and I were looking for a place to eat while visiting Mount Dora so we found this small Cuban style restaurant. We decided to go in and give it a try. We were met by a friendly hostess who sat us and our server came over and introduced herself and took out order. We sat down at 3:00 pm. We first ordered soup and salad and we told our server to bring the soup and salad first before the main course. Forty-five minutes later the soup and salad had not arrived. It wasn't very busy. There were only four tables being used including ours. We waited five minutes more and then I got up and went to the kitchen and told our server that we are leaving and that we were disgusted with everything. That minute I said that the manager(Blanca) came over and apologized and two other more experienced servers came over to help out. Their names were Chris and Calley. After the confusion, we finally got our food and it was very good. The service improved with the help of Chris and Calley. When we went to pay the bill it took another 15 minutes because our original server lost it. Actually, she gave it to other customers to make matters worst. It was unbelievable. What we thought would take a hour took three hours. We plan to return and we ask for either Chris or Calley. As for the other server who I can't remember her name I hope I never see her again. I give three stars for the food and service. Maybe things will change and I will update my review and make a five-star review. read more

Nope! We made reservations for a party of five. Granted it was thanksgiving weekend and all the restaurants are very busy--most don't offer reservations that weekend. However, this place confirmed them but when we arrived at 7pm they claimed no reservations allowed that weekend and suggested I was confused and did not make them. I did make them so that means someone from the restaurant did not know what they were doing. As a result of this poor service my party was forced to wait over one hour. Absolutely the worst service experience at any place I have ever had. I will keep this short...ish. We have dined here many times and have always had a great meal/experience. The problem we had was our water, Johnny, as I'm sure all of his other tables would agree. Didn't see him til after we recieved our food. Walked inside 3 times to get him(he was sitting at a table chatting up). Found him once out front where he sat at a bench for about 25 min with a couple of his friends. Asked for our check then had to remind him we still needed our check. Great restaurant food, like amazing, just if you get Johnny then you need to ask for a new server. We were in lovely Mt.Dora on Feb2nd and decided to try Las Palmas - Very disappointing lunch. Right from the start the waiter just tried to act too cool - he needs to turn it down some. My husband and I both ordered a Cuban sandwich and black beans and rice, then we waited and waited, we finally got our meal after 40 mins we got our food. Amazing food no doubt and the drinks and specials are amazing. The staff on the other hand sucks. I feel like there is no manager watching them. They are very uncoordinated even when slow. One time we came the hostess took the time to text someone back before offering to even sit us while we stood in the hot sun waiting. Every time I go I have to ask someone for our waiter to come back or for a waiter to even come to our table. We came yesterday and there were less than 8 tables sat and 3 waitresses walking around before our waiter even brought us silverware. Like I said, this is an every time thing not a hit or miss. This is the most consistent Cuban restaurant in our area. I love the Ropa Vieja. Their bread is fresh and delicious. The entertainment is LOUD (only drawback for me... I have two smaller kids) and the seating area is very crowded. Great service from all of the staff we have had. read more

This place was just okay. Fun little spot in Mt Dora, but the food was average at best. I got a 1/2 Cuban sandwich with Cuban chicken soup and I unfortunately didn't like either of them. They lacked flavor. I tried some of my the red bean soup someone else with me got and it was delicious! I definitely wish i would've ordered that. They bring you bread with 3 yummy dipping sauces before which is nice. My main reason for 3 stars is that my food wasn't very good. However, my waiter Juan was super kind and gave us some recommendations. He made it a better experience! Would come back to get the red bean soup and try something else! read more
