My new favorite for Vietnamese food in the TL. Their pho is delicious, the restaurant is clean and spacious. Their pho tai, sach (rare beef slices with tripe) is one of my go-to pho noodle soups as of late. So delicious! Their Chả giò (fried spring rolls) is so crispy and tasty also. A must order. Their rice plates are also delicious. I feel like I'm repeating myself, but I haven't had anything from them that I didn't like. The iced Vietnamese coffee hit the spot tho it is strong! Elderly customers happily chattering away with the staff, warm greeting and service throughout... Felt like I was eating at someone's house and their parents would say "eat more" That's how their portions felt like when I ordered their pho dac biet with rare steak on the side. When I took my first bite, it felt like I was enveloped in a warm hug. The noodle to ratio wasn't 1:1 but that isn't to say they didn't give enough. I think they gave a solid amount, but the noodle was probably double of what I expected. Tender beef, bouncy + springy beef balls, al dente noodles... solid all around. My goodness what a glorious way to spend a rainy afternoon in "Little Vietnam" in San Francisco. The ambiance is much like you'd find in Vietnam with large tables, well spaced and very clean. I always enjoy the heavy hardwood chairs as I always remember in Asia. Food is fresh and plentiful with a vibrant clean taste. Standouts are a large Bahn XEO crepe with pork, shrimp and bean sprouts crispy fried with lettuce, mint and basil, imperial rolls generously filled with shrimp, pork and rolled tightly. Pho is a star here with the clearest of broth, not overly scented with herbs, arriving steaming hot and garnished with cilantro, scallion with jalapeño and lemon. What a pleasant surprise Larkin Restaurant was for me. I had heard the pho was good but everything about it was top notch. Broth was tasty, the meat while not a lot was good quality, the noodles were great texture and plentiful, and the price was exceptionally budget friendly. $13.50 for a large bowl. Decided to come here on a whim since my go to spot in the TL was closed today and I'm so glad I chose this place. The interior is nice, I like the renovations they did it adds a lot of lightening to the dining area. I got the sate hu tieu bo which is their sate beef noodle soup and it came with some basil. Located in the tenderloin, I'm on a journey to find the best chicken pho. This spot's broth got me nodding my head. The vibe was specious and the service was quick. Hoping more people would try this place out. This place was a yummy hole in the wall, I ordered the chicken pho for only $13.50. Chopped it up with the owner and got to hear more about their spot. They opened up a little before the pandemic and it's been tough for them, but they're still here! If they could keep one item on their menu, it would be the Combo Pho (Dac Biet). I was craving a bowl of Pho Ga and wanted a place to dine in, so Larkin Restaurant was perfect. There's ample seating, and plenty of people were dining in on a weekday around lunch. The waiter was incredibly kind, and my food was out within 10 minutes. It was some of the best chicken broth I've had! The restaurant is also very clean and perfect for solo dining. I have came here often and is my stable in the TL for Pho. I always get the Pho Tai Bo Vien with the smaller pho noodles. Quality is the same every time, the broth is really good they got me coming back when I crave Pho in the area. It's a tough choice to choose Pho 2000 whom been around longer, but the distinction in the broth and the amount of MSG in Pho 2000 became a lacklusker for me. Vietnamese is being slowly displaced in favor of middle eastern as the dominant cuisine in the tenderloin but this place upholds Vietnamese food pridefully. I got there for my lunch during work hour and even though they had an available table which was for 4 ppl, they wouldn't accommodate me because I was one individual and so I waited for them to make a decision or change something to accommodate me which wanted 20 min of my lunch time and then the guy came to me and told me he cannot accommodate me ! Flavor good, but not sure if it is me but they put somuch noodles than meat, service good also I ask for vietnamese coffee w condense milk and they bring me a ice coffe, nice a quiet place, to have a conversation whit the person you are with. The Banh Khot appetizer was crispy and pairing them with veggies then dipping them into the fish sauce made this dish overall pretty tasty. Although, it was a bit too oily. If this appetizer was less oily, then it would have been a solid dish. Both bowls of pho had great, soft noodle texture and had a good amount of meat. I highly recommend stopping by Larking for some incredible Vietnamese food in San Francisco the food here is incredible! I ordered the Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong. The pork in the dish was not only perfectly seasoned but also incredibly crispy. The two imperial rolls served with this dish were also incredible. They had an incredible crunch and the stuffing was great! Also be sure to try some of the sate sauce the because it is great and super unique! The Tenderloin is one of the best places to get delicious Vietnamese food in sf. I have my childhood favorites in the area, but recently tried Larkin Restaurant. It's a spacious restaurant, near Lee's Sandwich. It was so good that we went there twice within a week and we were served by the same guy which I want to assume is the owner. He was super chill and accommodating with what we wanted. We ordered the pho tai which is pho with rare beef, super big and filling. Their broth was really delicious and they have the thicker rice noodle like turtle tower, but you can definitely ask them to sub for the thinner rice noodles. I can't wait to go again! read more

This is a hidden gem in the Tenderloin! First, the service is great. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We tried the vermicelli in soup with pork. The meat was delicious. Good quantity of meat, well flavored. We also tried the chicken and rice plate. Why is chicken and rice such a delicious simple combo. They do it right here. There is never a wait to be seated. The chairs here are comfortable and they don't rush you. On the negative side, watch out when walking in the neighborhood. This street is rough. It's been a revolving door at this particular Little Saigon address as it was once Bodega Bistro, a Franco-Vietnamese spot with Hanoi Street food, and then a more standard and rather mediocre Vietnamese place called Rose Kitchen. It was dark for several months but new owners have just put this place back on track as a combination Vietnamese-Chinese eatery. Usually that means the worst of both worlds, but luckily the quality was quite good. I ordered the $6.50 Goi Cuon, my usual starter, and it was prepared with skill with all the expected ingredients for a fresh spring roll. My only minor quibble was the peanut sauce which would have benefited from a thicker consistency (photo: http://bit.ly/2TYfqqr). For my main, I continued my predictability and went with the small $9 Pho Ga, which I thought was prepared very well with a good broth, thick rice noodles, and a hearty portion of chicken with the skin left on, the way I like it (photo: http://bit.ly/2U0tTlM). Except for one party of eight, it was sadly empty in here. It was probably more indicative of the current health crisis affecting all family-run restaurants. I chatted with one of the owners, Tommy, who wanted feedback on his food and menu. I shared what I wrote here and suggested a pho with chicken innards would be a nice addition as it is at Turtle Tower and Golden Lotus. I told him I'd love to see steamed chicken on the menu, and even though he can't add it to the menu, he told me his mom has a great recipe and that he'll have his brother, who happens to be the chef, make it next time I come in. I'll take him up on that.
