Golden Lotus is a no‑fuss, unpretentious Vietnamese hole in the wall in the heart of the TL, with owners that are super friendly, speaking both Vietnamese and Cantonese, and have that rare knack for remembering you even after just a couple of visits. If it's your first time, start with the #3 (banh cuon thit nuong) to share. It's a dish that's surprisingly hard to find in San Francisco despite being a super common and beloved street food in Vietnam, and Golden Lotus does a really nice version that is fresh, flavorful, and packed with all the herbs and textures that make it so delicious. I do wish the rice paper wrappers were a bit thinner and chewier, and that they cut the rolls into 12 smaller pieces instead of 6, since they're just a touch too big to eat as is, but it's still absolutely worth trying. The bun (vermicelli) is solid and exactly what you want from a good bowl of noodles, even if it doesn't dramatically stand apart from other strong versions around the city. The #43 (banh uot) is one of the more interesting items on the menu and definitely worth a try. Instead of traditional noodles, you get flat rice sheets that offer a great surface area to soak up all the sauce, with a really nice balance of flavors that took me back to one of the best dishes I had in Da Lat, banh uot long ga, or dry, flat rice noodles tossed with herbs, chicken, and offal. Golden Lotus was the first place I ever tried it - I don't see it at other Vietnamese restaurants much - and I've been back since to get it again. The rice rolls are smooth and silky, and the combination of ingredients inside (grilled lemongrass pork, mint, shallot, and then dipped in sauce) look simple but work so well together. We've also tried their Pho Ga (chicken pho), which was just okay in my opinion. Free hot tea! They also won't rush you out, so this could be a good spot to catch up with friends. For how chaotic the streets can be, Golden Lotus provides a clean and pleasant escape with outstanding service. The owner was very attentive, seating my colleague and me quickly and serving us hot tea on the spot. The service remained excellent throughout our meal--our cups were always full, and orders were taken efficiently without any rush. As for the food, this Vietnamese spot checks all the right boxes. The pho broth had a solid, standard flavor, and all ingredients tasted fresh and clean. You can tell the dishes are made to order rather than reheated like at some other places. Prices are fair for the area, and they execute the basics well. What stood out to me was the fried shrimp cake that came with the rice dish and the imperial rolls. The imperial rolls were light, crispy, and had the right amount of filling. They also offer chili oil upon request. Their nuoc cham is spot on, with the perfect balance of chili, garlic, fish sauce, and lime juice. My only critique is that the egg cake in the rice dish could have been denser with a better ground pork-to-vermicelli ratio, as it leaned more on the vermicelli side. Parking can be a bit sketchy because of some of the locals in the area, so keep that in mind. Next time, I'll definitely be trying their vermicelli (bún) dishes and Bún Bò Huế, which came highly recommended by others. My favorite Vietnamese spot this year. I usually go towards pho 2000 for Vietnamese food and one day as I was reading the menu outside golden lotus, the owner said hi to us and warmly invited us in. We tried his specialty banh cuon rolls along with the vermicelli bowl and from that day on we were hooked. Like wooow...the flavors of my childhood came rushing back to when I was growing up with my family and I felt a nostalgic connection to the food as I enjoyed the food. The pork was flavored with a balanced BBQ char and lettuce, wrapped in a rice paper roll, making for a neatly tucked blanket for the food. The owner spoke Vietnamese with me and made me feel like I was a nephew or part of his family and I loved that about his demeanor, his warm personality made for easy conversations. Their fish sauce was perfectly diluted so that wasn't overwhelming and had a savory sweet flavor that paired well with all the food. Shoot...even our mayor Daniel Lurie digs this spot and gave them a shoutout. My current favorite is the banh xeo, which IYKYK when I say it was bomb af. Crispy, delicious, and paired with fresh vegetables like mint and lettuce. The Ambiance is a simple layout with a TV showing traditional Vietnamese cooking and country side life, so you'll get a sense of how people live over there, and it's quite spacious so you'll be able get to bring large party sizes for outings. I haven't eaten viet food in the TL since Turtle Tower closed, but my friend and I decided to come in while we were in the area and we were not disappointed. It's a no frills establishment in not the best neighborhood, but it was clean inside and the owner was friendly and welcoming. We each had a small bowl of pho dac biet (comes with all the meat options) and ordered the banh cuon to share. For a $15 bowl, it was a good portion that came with a lot of meat, especially compared to some other pho restaurants, and the broth was clean and didn't leave me guzzling water at the end of the meal. I was impressed by how tender the flank was and how flavorful the brisket was. While it wasn't the most complex broth, I definitely prefer it over those that are super oily and heavy. My one complaint is that the broth could've been hotter, but it was still good nonetheless. The banh cuon was also delicious - the texture of the roll was perfect, and I'm an absolute sucker for lemongrass pork. However, if you're a fellow cilantro hater, the menu doesn't say it but it does have cilantro. I was originally trying to pull it out and ended up just unrolling it to remove the cilantro, and the owner saw me struggling and asked if I wanted it remade which was so nice T_T thankfully there was no lingering flavor once removed so I declined, but I really appreciated that he offered. Considering the price point, portion, and quality of food, I would definitely come back to satisfy my pho cravings. If you are lucky to find parking you're greeted with a strong pungent unpleasant aroma created by humans and their by product. But once you make your way inside the restaurant, the environment gets lot better. The workers here are friendly and attentive with great food at great price that's unheard of in this era. This place had more than the traditional Pho with lot of good ol' Vietnamese comfort food. Didn't try all but the ones we tried are spot on. Their chicken wings are tasty but I prefer wingettes. Forever craving pho when hungover so walked to this place near my new apartment. The area is a little spicy but manageable during the day on a Sunday with lots of people walking around. The pho was okay. The broth was good but I felt that the cut of meat was wrong and it was already fully cooked in the soup. Typically with pho tai you get raw slices of steak that cook in the soup so they're not over cooked. This meat had a bit of fat and muscle in it so didn't like that it was a different cut. Also, the noodles were the thick kind of pho noodles. I know these are used in different parts of Vietnam and are a regional thing but I like the thin noodles better. I need to learn the names for the different type of noodle so I can ask before ordering when going to a new pho place! The imperial rolls were amazing though. Super crispy and yummy and love when they give you fresh herb and lettuce to wrap in! The family that owns this restaurant was sooo nice with amazing service. I'm often told by locals that there aren't any good Pho spots in the City. Key word Pho, so that's what we are focusing on. My go to spot, Pho 2000 right up the street was closed on Tuesday and I just needed a big bowl of Pho to get through the cold and commute. Conveniently I'm in Little Saigon for this. I dropped by here instead, looking for a large chicken pho. I'm simple, nothing too crazy. Just a nice large bowl of Pho. At first, they serve you a big glass of tea. Not a cup of tea, a big glass. That was a green flag already. The waiter was super chill, friendly, and fast with taking your order. I received my pho in less than 7 minutes. Place is spacious, has plenty of seating. Broth was what I needed for the night. Broth had a ton of flavor and I didn't need to add anything else to enhance the broth, but when I had the noodles; they were way more fresh than the spot I go to up the street. This surprised me because I would always pass by Golden Lotus. They used big pieces of chicken in the pho, and had a nice consistency to every piece. They did not skimp on the chicken, all pieces in the broth was consistently good! Definitely was blown away from the quality of Pho I got. Now I'm not Vietnamese to tell you if this was authentic or not, so I'll let you be the judge of that. I preferred this bowl over Pho 2000. It had a good ratio of everything. It's soo good I could eat just this. I get the beef ball pho and my boyfriend gets the pork & imperial roll vermicelli bowl. The pho noodles are thicker than normal ones, but it's still really good. The broth is really light, sometimes a little too light but it's still worth coming back to. Service is always attentive and helpful. Depending on how I feel, I always get bun bo hue or pho dac biet but you really can't go wrong with either. Everything else was delicious. Bun bo hue broth is amazing and rich in flavor. Perfect for a chilly day and just enough meat and toppings for every single bite. Cha gio( imperial rolls) were perfectly fried and filling was delicious. Served with mint, lettuce, cilantro, vermicelli and fish sauce. Banh Uot was super refreshing. First time trying it and it comes with sliced cucumbers as well. read more

Just north of the Tenderloin, this is a cleaner place in the area. The raw beef pho I had was very nice; both the raw beef part & pho part. The father is Cantonese, mother is Vietnamese and the son only speaks Vietnamese and English. read more

I love Golden Lotus! The pho comes in two styles- thin or thick noodles and the broth is always rich. My favorite part of the restaurant though is the man who runs it. He always remembers me and has warm greetings even though I don't go that often (maybe once a month.) He chases after patrons who left an umbrella or a jacket in the restaurant to return their belongings even if it's raining and generally has a warm, kind demeanor.
