    Pork kidney soup

So we stopped into this Vietnamese/Chinese food palace in the heart of Chinatown. My expectations were low but the photo of the pork kidney soup drew us in. I was drawn to the crispy noodles dish with chicken. We had Gai lan-Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. My friend had the pork kidney soup and absolutely loved it. She said she would eat this everyday. So, it's not really a Chinese dish, more Vietnamese and not something you'd find everywhere. So be adventurous and give it a try, or stick with the crispy noodles with chicken, beef or chicken. I only rate the food. I don't really care about the atmosphere, just the taste of the food, so I give this five stars.

Stopped here for lunch with the fam and we were not disappointed from their soup to Broccoli & Beef and their Chow Mein was delicious!!!! Customer service was great!!!! Not too crazy loud considering lunch rush hour.

Food - ordered bun bo hue - portions are huge! lots of meat, noodles were chewy and overall flavor was good. I was afraid it'd be too spicy, so they made it mild and it was yummy! also ordered thai ice tea. if you're a fan of creamy thai tea, you will love it. my friend wish there was more tea taste, but i loved the creaminess 100% recommend thai tea Service - seated as soon as we walked in. Ordered and food came pretty quickly. I wanna say less than 10 mins. My friend's bun bo hue actually had a piece of hair in it, so we told them and they gladly and quickly cooked a new one for her. Ambiance - pretty laid back. Not the comfiest chairs but lots of seating and overall nice place to grab an afternoon lunch or dinner.

Came for lunch and a few things I like about the no frills San Sun: - Large portions from the Hainan chicken to the rice noodle soup - Free hot tea with the meal - Quick & fast service Their must gets are their noodle soups, pho with plenty of items to choose from. I ordered their Hainan chicken noodle soup. Noodles and the chicken were both bland unfortunately. Luckily, the chicken had a little ginger tip on the side for spice! I understand Hainan are usually done broiled with not much flavor so you can use various spices and dips with it. But the noodle soup too? The broth needs to have more flavor! The menu is gigantic! I got lost counting..I was up to page 13. There's a variety of Chinese dishes here and whatever you're craving, they will have it here. Wayyyy too many items and can be overwhelming.

It was very busy on a Sunday afternoon because of an event in Chinatown. We were seated promptly as someone just left but we waited for our food for over 30 mins for just 3 items. There was a large group of teens who finished lion dance for the event that they wanted to feed first because and I quote, "they were very hungry". Not the best way to apologize for our long wait time. We ordered the hainan chicken rice, shrimp and pork kidney noodle soup, and bun bo hue. I was pleasantly surprised by the BBH. Flavors were good and it wasn't overly spicy. Good amount of meats as well. My dad thought the hainan chicken rice was mid. The sauce it came with was sweet and not the usual green onion ginger dipping sauce. The prices are pretty decent here too. We really liked how the dipping sauces are on a ledge on the side of the table so it clears up space. Everything we got was $16 and was a good portion.

When they were still at the other location, where the Bart is, I would go there every weekend with my family. From what I remember, the food was delicious! Leek Dumpling: It's not as good as I remember it. It's too soft. If you try to get it with chopsticks it will crumble. Chiu Chow Combination Noodle: I usually get this at other restaurants, but first time trying it here. I got the ho fun rice noodle and thin egg noodles. The soup was very bland, no flavor at all. Lots of meat and right amount of noodles though. I should've stuck with my regular order, chicken ho fun. That one is flavorful with wok "air", with a lot of meat and veggies! I'll come back to try other dishes though.

Delicious food, perfect for eating and then walking around. Great flavor and good customer service

Great food and great service. They have a wide variety of noodles you can choose for your dishes. While I was eating someone came in to buy jars of their satay sauce. One of the staff told me it's really popular and I should try some that's available at the table. It was good but a little too spicy for me. The pho ga was very flavorful. And a generous portion for the price. I was very full when I was done. Thai iced tea was also delicious.

Really great food and customer service. The waitress speaks Cantonese, mandarin, Malaysian and English. The chief has a Cantonese Vietnamese fusion style to the menu so there's a lot of options. Recommend getting the wonton soup and kidney ginger and onion.

Came here at 10am on my lunch break right when they opened, very spacious inside with plenty of tables and seating. Was greeted and seated and then I placed my order of Hainanese chicken w/ noodle soup. My order came out in 3-4 minutes which is fast considering that they just opened, it came with a generous bowl of rice noodles with a heap of green onions topped with fried onions and a plate of Hananese whole chicken leg that had a sauce soy sugar and ginger from what I can tell as a dip. The noodles were fresh and the chicken was very tender, for $16 the portion very filling and the food was good quality. Also the staff was very friendly and always had a smile.

** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** Chinatown isn't feeling much like Chinatown these days, but that hasn't stopped me from venturing there to support the local businesses. After all, there ain't wrong with a hankering for Hainan chicken. I'm surprised Brandon Jew hasn't attempted a Cal-fresh version yet, as I'd be the first in line for that. The best one in Chinatown is not even called Hainan chicken. It's the steamed chicken with ginger and scallions at Hunan Home's because they cook it to the right tenderness that I don't even need the rice. The $13.25 Hainan Chicken Half was pretty good and prepared with the right fixings including the seasoned soy sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/2FUNKQq). I skipped the rice because I couldn't afford the carbs that evening. Instead, I went for the $11 Steamed Broccoli in Oyster Sauce, and that was quite a hefty serving. No complaints from me as I love the crunch of the greenery and the sweetness of the sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/2FUNKQq). This was a classic Chinatown takeout meal in a neighborhood that's sadly turned into a bit of a ghost town. They definitely need our patronage. FOOD - 4 stars...standard issue Hainan chicken but well executed, the Chinese broccoli sent it over though AMBIANCE - n/a...looks like a nice, brightly lit spot SERVICE - 4 stars...quite friendly TOTAL - 4 stars...Chinatown, my Chinatown RELATED - Exploring Chinatown? Once they started calling tables, it moved really fast. When we were seated, we ended up sharing a table with two other groups of two. I actually didn't mind it at all because there was still enough space between everyone to have privacy. It also made the experience feel more social -- I ended up chatting with the people to my right and left about the food. Everything we ordered was really good. Their popular dry fried chicken absolutely lived up to the hype and was probably my favorite thing on the menu... besides the cherry pork. I feel like nobody talks about the cherry pork enough! It was SO good -- kind of like a sweet-and-sour pork without the sour. I dipped it in soy sauce because I loved the sweet and salty combo together. The dumplings were also really good. The wrapper was thin and delicious, but my boyfriend said he wished they had a little more protein filling and less leek. The green beans are always a hit. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again was the black bean sauce noodles. Maybe I just expected a different flavor, but to me they honestly tasted like regular lo mein. I'm also not a huge noodle person in general, so I'd probably skip them next time and order something else instead. Forgot to mention their prices are on point! Definitely recommend to any of the tourists. I think the weight is definitely worth it and I love being able to take home my leftovers and eating them for lunch and dinner the next day.

The place was packed at lunch, which is usually the best sign, but turnover was quick and I was seated faster than expected. The lunch special is a solid value with soup, rice, and an entree included. Started with the hot and sour soup which had good balance and depth without being overly thick or aggressive on the vinegar. The dry fried beef was tasty. Great texture, nicely cooked, layered flavor, and the kind of dish that keeps you reaching back in even after you're full. Service was efficient, food came out quickly, and the whole place has that old school neighborhood energy that makes you understand why it stays busy. Not trying to reinvent anything, just executing the classics well.

"Everything!" That's all one needs to say. At the entrance, clearly marked are signs reading, "Reservations" and "Walk-ins". Since we had reservations, we waited only a few minutes to get seated at the bar. The bar makes it easy to converse with your partner and to peer over as the fire from the range springs up from the kitchen. Our server brought us some "Free Bites" of roasted peanuts and smashed cucumbers. She was such a pleasant lady with quite the wit that made me laugh between courses. We ordered a full bottle of Negori sake. Note: if you do not finish the sake bottle, they cannot pack it to go for you, so drink up! Obviously, we couldn't order everything on the menu. For our first visit, we definitely wanted their special dish, Fried Squab. It was delicious! The meat was moist and the dipping salt with Sichuan peppercorn paired perfectly! Just don't focus too much on the visual... the head and claws. Hot Mustard Jellyfish Salad ~ I loved the "crunch" of the jellyfish and the hot mustard marinade was just spicy enough to start a slow burn up the nose. Beef Chow Fun Noodles ~ Delicious and so very savory. I was amazed at how flavorful this dish was without being salty. Clay Pot Rice w/Chinese Sausage & Bacon ~ Loved how the entire pot was seasoned nicely. The sauce did not only sit at the top, but penetrated deep down into the rice. XO Escargot w/Milkbread ~ I've only had French Escargot and these are just as good, if not better! Fish Fragrant Eggplant ~ Another savory and very umami dish. Red Bean Shaved Ice ~ Always a refreshing dessert. Dig in for the surprise in the center. We had such a nice, cozy dinner here. Even while at the bar, we never felt for lack of space. They paced the dishes out perfectly, so there was always room to eat and enjoy. Looking forward to returning and trying more items on the menu.
