I was excited to try out Lapeer since they opened in Bham late last year. The vibe is definitely one of the highlights--cute, modern, and perfect for a special occasion. It felt like a good birthday spot aesthetically! The host was friendly as well as our waitress. She gave great drink suggestions! We started with the BACON + BLUE WEDGE SALAD & it was my fav dish of the night! It was plenty for 2 to share & was the perfect salad (and I'm not the biggest blue cheese fan). For our entrees, we got PRIME HANGER STEAK, WHIPPED POTATOES on the side & LOBSTER PASTA. Everything was prepared well, the steak was the correct temp, food was good but I wasn't blown away. Drinks were enjoyable, and I'd probably come back for cocktails and the atmosphere!! I've heard good things about happy hour!

Ughhh Lapeer has done it again! My friend and I went for a friend date and we had such a great time. The service was top tier from the host to the bartender to our server. Our table was ready on time, our drinks were amazing. I've gone back after almost a year and I must say Lapeer is consistent. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and had much flavor. All of the sides were very tasty, the onion rings were crispy and salty. The bread & butter paired so well together. The shrimp toast is 100/100 I've never had anything like it, out of this world. The potatoes were smooth, but that cake?? Omg it had a hint of a coffee flavor. It was so good. I will always recommend this place it is truly a gem.

I met a friend here for happy hour on a Thursday. At first, I was concerned about parking and was happy to find that they had valet, which made it so easy. When we got there, there wasn't a large crowd because we arrived right when they opened. The happy hour prices seemed to be restricted to the bar area, which was fine with us as we had decided to sit at the bar anyway. Michael, our bartender, was amazing and gave us some great recommendations. My friend had the oysters to start. For my drink, I had the Lady in Orange. It was easily my favorite drink. I stuck with it most of the night. The bread and butter were amazing and a good start to a great meal. It started getting really busy, but our service was still great! My steak was absolutely divine. It was perfect, and I added rosemary butter. I got my steak medium, and it was so tender and perfectly seasoned. For sides, we had whipped potatoes. asparagus, and I also tasted some of my friend's onion rings, which were excellent and the star of the sides for me. I ended up getting an espresso martini, and I absolutely loved it. I loved everything about my visit to Lapeer and will definitely be returning.

Food was awesome, had the hangar steak with buttered crab and steak Frites, along with an Expresso Crème Brûlée to wrap the meal. Amanda was excellent, great personality, kept a smile on her face, provided awesome suggestions, Cheers Amanda. And everyone the hostesses to those who brought out the food to those who cleared the table were great. Vibes were great, liked the low lighting, and semi dark atmosphere as you entered, but as you turned the corner past the hostess stand, it lit up a bit.

Yelp! Finally made it to the much coveted Lapeer! I must say I was most impressed with the ambiance and service from valet to table. Thanks Kierra for making us feel right at home. Let's get down to business, because we came for the food. The menu is limited for me. Great if you are a steak lover, I am not. Or, if you love seafood, I cannot eat. So, what's left, burgers, chicken and veggies. Well, veggies are limited, the greats are not on menu tonight, no broccolini, snaps, or fingerling potatoes, all recommended. Gosh darn. But, you do have Onion rings! So good, with the French fry sauces. It's all girls here tonight. Apps were complimentary bread, shrimp toast, calamari, oyster sliders and the onion rings. 3 of us chose the burger. Delish with a tub of fries and they are good. Fee got a 1/2 of chicken, cooked too hard. And, the other was still working on her oyster sliders. I wanted the big spoon black walnut ice cream with the chocolate cake, but you were all sold out. Cake stood alone. Kierra did us right tho, caramel for everyone. Y'all already know, pretty good, so I'll be back.

I was soooo excited to finally make it to Lapeer Steak & Seafood. It's right downtown with valet available and a solid-sized parking lot. The ambience is romantic, industrial, and moody in the best way. Perfect for a date night! As a professional over-orderer, I went a little wild so I could try a bit of everything. Here's the breakdown: Shrimp toast - Do NOT come here without ordering this. SO good. Award-winning for a reason. 9.2/10 Calamari - Tasty, but could've used a dipping sauce. 8/10 Lobster pasta - Missed the mark for me. Tons of lobster, but overall pretty basic and bland. Very disappointing. 4/10 Steak au poivre - WOW. I didn't know skirt steak could be this tender?? Great sauce. 9/10 Sticky toffee pudding - Insane. The cake at the bottom is to die for. 9/10 Drinks (not pictured): Cider Solstice - 8.6/10 Sour Cherry Lemonade - 5/10 Dirty martini with blue cheese olives - 10/10 according to my fiancé... 0/10 for me haha! Overall, a great spot with solid food, excellent service (shout out to Shep!), and a super cool vibe. We'll definitely be back.

My husband and I visited for a celebration dinner one Friday night and loved this place. He said that this was arguably the best steak that he's ever paid for. (We cook a good bit at home and it's pretty fantastic ) I will agree, the steak was delicious as was anything else. We started with the carpaccio and bread. I was shocked at how good the house dinner rolls were! Normally I'm indifferent towards bread, but I would go back for the rolls and steak alone! I ordered the lobster pasta for my entree and he had the Delmonico ribeye. To share we had the whipped potatoes and broccolini. The broccolini was amazing! Lastly we had to have some of the chocolate cake. It was divine The waitstaff were attentive and friendly. Our waitress even took some time to take our picture in the lobby before we departed dinner. Overall we loved it and are looking forward to go back and try more of the menu.

One of the best meals we've ever eaten!!!! We went for Valentine's Day, and because you have to have reservations, it wasn't crowded at all and there wasn't a long wait. We were seated promptly. Our server, Kevin, was very attentive and professional without being snooty. We received top notch service. Everything tasted amazing, even the bread rolls! I got an old fashioned and before I even tasted it the smell alone was amazing. We got the wedge salad, which definitely think you could share!!! My husband got the Delmonico ribeye and they cooked it to perfection. We added the horseradish sauce and pepper butter. We got potato gratin and shells and cheese as sides. In hindsight we probably could've easily just shared that as well!! The main event is the chocolate cake!!!! Normally I am not even a fan of chocolate cake but I saw pictures online, and with the ice cream..... it was perfect!!!! This is definitely a date night/special occasion type place but worth it for the experience!

I've heard so much about Lapeer and was finally able to try it for myself! Our server Kevin was great. Very engaging and explained the menu in detail. For appetizers we had the salt and pepper calamari and crab cakes. The crab cakes were truly the star of the show! Calamari was good, but I've had better. They also had a bread service with freshly baked rolls. Yum! For my entree I ordered the branzino, which came with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. Everything was good, I just wish the branzino was a bit more seasoned. I also didn't expect it to be fried but I may have missed that on the menu. I had 2 cocktails during my meal. The agave affair and a gimlet. Both were great! I'd like to come by and try more of the seasonal offerings!

Went to Lapeer with some girl friends this week for an upscale Friendsmas dinner. We had reservations at 5:15 and 3 of the 4 of us were over 15 minutes late due to horrible traffic. Thankfully the manager gave us grace. The atmosphere was nice and mellow. Our server was helpful and have is insight on some of the popular dishes. I had the Lady in Orange drink, the calamari, the crispy broccolini, and the skirt steak au poivre. The drink was good but they didn't even give me a garnish. The calamari was cooked well but lacked much flavor, imo, it needs a sauce to accompany. I wasn't a fan of the broccolini, I think it's the crispy not the flavor. The steak wasn't cooked too my liking but it had a good taste. Not the best steak I've had. Most of the group had issues with items being extremely oily or extremely vinegar-y. There were no wow factors here. But I hope it's because they are so new. I'm hopeful that Lapeer Bham will find their groove.

Wowza! So... I am not normally a big fan of the traditional steakhouse dinner. But, Lapeer is such a welcome addition to Birmingham. The dining room was much larger than I expected, there's lots of people that already knew about this spot, I think I heard their reservations are pretty full for the next month. We were seated by their lovely hosts at a table in the far back corner. They have a nice wine menu with cocktails and beer, too. A glass of wine runs about $14-20, which seems pretty standard to me. Our drinks and appetizer did take a little while to come out, but they made up for it in spades by bringing us out a couple extra sides and with a visit from the chef and owner, who were very friendly. We started off with the calamari, which was quite spicy and zesty. It was delicious, although I do wish it had a dipping sauce on the side. They followed up with the house rolls for the table, which are made by their in-house pastry chef. These were fluffy, buttery perfection. I ordered the skirt steak, which was in-cre-di-ble. The char on the outside was outstanding, and the gravy/mushroom sauce on top was so delicious. Part of me is a bit overwhelmed by the concept of ordering your steak and side/s separately, but I managed. Definitely order your sides with the intention of sharing with the table, they're generous portions. Out of the sides, the crispy broccoli situation was delicious, and the creamed corn was certainly a standout. The potatoes au gratin and mac and cheese were delicious as well. The fries hit the mark, but I'd recommend trying something else. Everything was all around 5 stars, and sadly we were stuffed very quickly. Hold on, though. Never so stuffed that I'm not gonna order that chocolate cake. It was a thick, brownie-like cake. Definitely large enough to split with up to 6 people, I'd say. My one chief complaint would be that the table wasn't big enough for all the food we ordered, haha! I believe they're working out some of the service details with their wait staff, but Lapeer is 100% earning a spot on my favorite restaurants in Birmingham list. It's spendy, bring people here to impress them. I'll be back for some more of that skirt steak, and hope to eventually see a rotating/seasonal side menu.

Lapeer was an amazing experience. While waiting for my friend, I sat at the bar. I had the Agava Affair. In the beginning I thought the drink was tart, but after I finished it, I liked it. The ambiance in the room is nice. They have a business casual dress code. Once my friend and I were seated, we shared the crabcakes and salt and pepper calamari. The crabcakes were delicious! The calamari did taste like salt and pepper but it needed something else with it. Bread service was provided and it was delicious. I ordered the branzino fish with potato fingerlings and asparagus. I didn't finish all my food due to the other meals. But I enjoyed everything! I also got a drink that was an espresso martini. Our server was Kevin and he was amazing!

I recently had my first dining experience at Lapeer for a private dinner, and overall it was a great experience. Complimentary valet is always a plus and made arriving super easy. The menu for the evening was thoughtfully curated. For Course 1, we had wagyu beef carpaccio with toasted sourdough, salt & pepper calamari, and jumbo shrimp cocktail--such a strong start, everything was fresh and flavorful. Course 2 was an oyster platter. It was my first time having raw oysters! They weren't bad but I don't have to have them again. Course 3 included benne seed dinner rolls and a spring mix salad, and the rolls were definitely a standout--so good! For the entrée, I chose the 7 oz filet mignon, which was cooked well and very satisfying. Sides included whipped potatoes, crispy broccolini, and cheesy shells, and the cheesy shells were easily one of my favorite parts of the night. I also had the "Lady in Orange" cocktail, which was very tasty and paired well with the meal. Dessert was the Lapeer blackout cake with house-made sea salt caramels, and I also tried the nightcap--it was like a frozen pudding version of an espresso martini and SO good. My only complaint would be the service. For a Thursday night, it was surprisingly slow, and the timing felt off--the presentation I was attending at the restaurant actually ended before the appetizers had even fully come out, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, the food and drinks were amazing and definitely the highlight. I'd come back again, just hoping for a smoother and more timely service experience next time.

The interior was refreshingly classic but current, making good use of an elongated and narrow space. The partially open kitchen increases interest, but I was sitting with my back to it, which spared my lunch companion from competing for my attention. Our server Krynn was perfectly kind, prompt, and pleasing, genuinely welcoming to us and knowledgeable of the dishes. She was so very sweet and one of the best servers I have encountered in Alabama. The food was very thoughtfully prepared. We ordered Tuesday's lunch special, the fried green tomato BLT. We were impressed that the bacon is cured on site and cut the same day it is fried and served. The sandwich was so large that we easily split it. The tomatoes were good. I prefer lettuce in leaves, not shreds, but it didn't detract much from the experience and it didn't fall out everywhere. The sandwich came with chips which seemed homemade and were very good, not soggy. I added salt which was brought in a little wooden pinch bowl. For a side we split a plate of marinated summer peas and beans. This was baby lima beans and black eyed peas, with a very small amount of finely diced red onion and red bell pepper. There was a copious amount of cilantro that was not finely chopped and dominated certain mouthfuls. I would adjust this recipe by using a few more pinches of red onions and bell peppers, and finely chopping the cilantro and using less of it. It was very flavorful! I thought my SIL might still be hungry so we got a cheesecake slice at the end. It presented beautifully and was covered in a blueberry syrup. The texture was a bit ragged but it isn't any worse than one I'd make at home. I also felt the lemon flavor was a bit overly strong, and the crust appeared to be cornmeal based and wasn't my favorite, but that's just my preference. I feel that smokers or people with few taste buds would still be able to taste the food at Helen! I also ordered a cup of black regular coffee and it was truly delightful, no adjustments to that flavor needed in my opinion! We were attended by a couple other servers and everyone was polite and sweet. I felt very relaxed and as if I were valued as a customer. I hope Krynn has many sweet customers who appreciate how nice she is! I hope to be back someday and would definitely recommend Helen restaurant.

Phenomenal dining experience!!…read more Service was top notch from the hostess and host, our waiter and all of the runners. Attentive without being obnoxious, in depth explanations of items on the menu with great recommendations! We started with a half dozen raw oysters and the pork belly. Oysters were very fresh and the seasoned crackers were a nice touch. The pork belly was quite possibly the best we've ever had and we're slight snobs about it. The fennel and orange mixture was a unique blend that really complemented the smokiness of the pork belly, Our steaks were melt in your mouth good. Cooked perfectly! I wished I could've just taken a massive bowl of the macaroni and cheese home. The char on the broccolini balanced the richness of the macaroni. They were sadly out of the crème brûlée, so instead I had the vanilla and peach gelato, while my husband had the chocolate l'orange cake. The vanilla gelato had the perfect rich vanilla taste. The peach didn't taste much like peach, but the flavor was still good. The cake was light and fluffy with a great balance of chocolate and orange. The candied orange peel on top was a nice touch! The atmosphere is pretty busy so it was louder than I was expecting. It's spectacular every time. The rotating menu keeps things fresh and interesting, and every dish we've had has been thoughtfully prepared and consistently excellent. The kitchen is clearly doing something special and it's a big reason we keep coming back. This visit, however, the service was unusually slow. Our dinner lasted about two hours (7:30-9:30) on a night that didn't seem particularly busy. There was a noticeable lull in the dining room with quite a few open tables, yet it still took nearly 40 minutes between finishing our appetizers and receiving our main courses. The pacing just felt off compared to past visits. Valet (which I understand isn't directly run by the restaurant) was also a bit slow -- about a 15 minute wait to get our car at the end of the night. All that said, Armour House is still a really special spot with incredible food and we'll absolutely be back. Sharing this feedback because we've had such great experiences here before and hope this was just an off night.

I genuinely could have ordered almost anything off the menu; everything sounded delicious. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget or the ability to consume every dish off the menu, so my boyfriend and I settled on splitting 2 small plates and 1 entree. What we ordered: -Smoked Fish Fritters: a Cuban delicacy. Still thinking about how good these were. Plenty to share! -Snapper Ceviche: personally not my thing, but my boyfriend loved this. I honestly wanted to like this, but the raw fish started to weird me out. -Jerk Chicken: served atop a tomato/bbq risotto that was devine. The inside here is so cozy and slightly tropical. I ordered the Espresso Martini ($14); it was lacking something in the flavor, but that could possibly be from me going against the grain when ordering. I had the jerk chicken, it was not a true jerk chicken ($29) it was basically grilled chicken with sauce so when expecting something more authentic it was disappointing to say the least. The tamarind caesar ($15) was also different than I expected; although I would make a trip for it, I would order it again when visiting. The best thing I tried was actually the typhoon brusssel sprouts ($12), I was very happy with them and honestly would have been okay if that was the only thing I ordered. The wait staff was great, very personable and being willing to dicuss the menu and give suggestions. Espresso Martini(Vodka-Carajillo) 7/10 flavor is not what accustomed to might have been better with the Rum normally fixed with. Tamarind Caesar- at first glance definitely not my regular Caesar. Definitely not an average Caesar the lettuce is grilled giving it a smoky flavor, caught off guard but I would order again. 8/10 Jerk Chicken- overall was a good dish first time trying farro wasn't sure what to expect made me think of oatmeal, the mango salsa and sauce on the chicken was good the chicken itself was a bit dry but still good. Overall I would give the dish a 7.5 I rarely order chicken out and I think this was a reminder why. Typhoon Brussel Sprouts- had great taste 9/10 I could come back and get a drink with the Brussels. Would consider the Star of the night The price was consistent with the area, nothing seemed overly priced. Portions were also large enough to be split so if with a group and wanting to try multiple items you would be able to do it and have enough.

Cost a meal is in direct portion to how much you enjoyed it. I enjoyed my meal very much. Eat well, Drink well and stay healthy.

The ambiance was great with lights on the tables, low lighting overall and plenty of room between the tables. We definitely felt like we were in our own little corner, could hear each other talk, and we did not have to listen to others conversations. I really enjoyed the mocktail I ordered. It was called the Sinaloa Sunrise and was much more than a few juices poured together. It was full of flavor, and I actually said "Wow" out loud as I drank it. It included pineapple juice, lime juice, habanero brown sugar syrup, sage syrup, and grenadine sink. Before I ordered it, i I wondered about the sage syrup, but it really added to the taste. For an appetizer, we shared the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio. Our friend suggested it and he was right on the money. It consisted of fresh horseradish, truffle aioli, fingerling potatoes, pickled mustard seeds, arugula, and caciotta al tartufo. It was melt in your mouth goodness. For my entree, I went with the 8 oz Filet. It was cooked perfectly, and we shared a side order of the Brussels Sprouts Calaprese. They were absolutely delicious and plenty for the three of us. This wonderful evening ended with dessert. I went with the Bananas Foster Cheesecake. It was good, but it needed more caramel. It included brown butter caramel, pistachio banana crumble, spiced ice cream, white chocolate crèmeux and white chocolate pearls. Was this an expensive dinner? Yes, but it was well worth it. You definitely are paying for a whole experience including unique flavors in every bite and wonderful service. Our server, Matt, made the night perfect.

Manager offered a free app. When I told him that seemed light, he kicked me out. Not kidding.... Go somewhere else. It's a nice place, but with management like this it's destined to fail.

The started of with bread from the Birmingham Bread works with a goat cheese and butter spread, then came a amuse-bouche that was BLT, a cherry tomato with a basil cream, topped with a piece of ham and balsamic dressing. Follow by a sorbet mango and passion fruit with rum. I ordered the smoked grilled ribeye stake topped with a black garlic compound butter and veal sauce, with rosemary infused scallop potatoes, Brussels sprouts and to top it all off a passionfruit crème brûlée. The ambiance was warm and inviting great for datings, wedding anniversary dinners and much more. The food was to die for, I loved everything about it can't wait to go back!

Infinite amount of stars for the food but negative one star for how slow they are. So very hard to…read morerate this place. So here is the downfall. It might have been the slowest dinner I ever had in my life. I had a 7:00 PM reservation and I arrived early and sat down at 6:50. After being greeted and ordering wine I placed an order of the pork belly appetizer at 7:05. The pork belly appetizer came out at 8:00, 55 minutes after ordering. I placed the entree order at 7:30 and it came out at 8:30. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant. Two three tops and a two top so not even large tables. Why on earth is it taking an hour to get out an order. I have my credit card at 8:50 and got it back at 9:15. 25 minutes to charge a card? I mean I guess you can get busy but the 4 tables here had 3 people helping with them. At no point when the server came by my table did I ever say I needed another minute. So, a 2.5+ hour dinner as a single diner was ridiculous, especially considering they were not busy. The food here was truly incredible, some of the best I've had anywhere I've traveled. I absolutely loved it. You can tell they source fresh, local ingredients daily, and that commitment clearly shines through in the quality of every dish. I started with the pork belly appetizer, which was outstanding. The cut had the perfect balance of meat and fat, expertly cooked with the fat beautifully rendered. The flavors were exceptional as well, finished with a maple glaze and paired with a sweet potato cornbread that was completely unique and memorable. For my main course, I ordered the smoked ribeye, and it was flawless. The quality was top-tier, with gorgeous marbling that truly reflected a prime cut. The smoke flavor was perfectly balanced--present but never overpowering. It had a beautiful crust, was expertly seasoned, and cooked to an ideal temperature. It honestly could not have been better. They also offered a few amuse-bouches that were equally impressive. A single bite of cherry tomato with lamb bacon was one of the best bites I've ever had. To finish, I was served a watermelon and muscadine sorbet with a St-Germain finish, an incredibly thoughtful and skillful dessert. There is an immense amount of talent in this kitchen. You will never be disappointed by the food here. My experience seemed to be overshadowed by the slow service and near the end I was so ready to just leave. However I might consider returning just for the food.

In fact, I'm getting warm feelings right now just thinking about my time here. Their vegan option is a nopal taco (tender, marinated cactus). It's excellent, but what makes it next level is that SALSA BAR with the best salsas I've ever had. It reminds me of taquerias in California. I drowned my taco in all of the sauces. In fact, I could probably be happy eating tortillas and salsa here. Because, yes, the tortillas are that delicious. As is that guac. Again, some of the best I've ever had, gimmicky tableside guac included (never felt that was such a great thing anyway). Here, you get a generous portion of the creamiest quality guac you can imagine. I can't report on the margaritas other than to say they look gorgeous. The wine pours are also generous and the prosecco is damn good.

Also the guacamole, the cheese dip and the tacos. They do have a full bar and can do frozen drinks. I loved that you can add your own toppings to your tacos. The tacos come with just meat. You can add onions, limes, cilantro and pickled onions and pickled jalapeños as well as sauce. They had a Verde sauce as well as regular salsa, and a Salsa Borachja sauce with onion, garlic and Mexican beer. It was spicy and delicious. They have plenty of counter seating, a few tables inside and several tables outside. This is a tapas bar more than a testaurant.
