We've dined at Armour House several times and always enjoy it, but this visit finally prompted me to leave a review with a bit of feedback. First, the food: truly no notes. It's spectacular every time. The rotating menu keeps things fresh and interesting, and every dish we've had has been thoughtfully prepared and consistently excellent. The kitchen is clearly doing something special and it's a big reason we keep coming back. This visit, however, the service was unusually slow. Our dinner lasted about two hours (7:30-9:30) on a night that didn't seem particularly busy. There was a noticeable lull in the dining room with quite a few open tables, yet it still took nearly 40 minutes between finishing our appetizers and receiving our main courses. The pacing just felt off compared to past visits. Valet (which I understand isn't directly run by the restaurant) was also a bit slow -- about a 15 minute wait to get our car at the end of the night. All that said, Armour House is still a really special spot with incredible food and we'll absolutely be back. Sharing this feedback because we've had such great experiences here before and hope this was just an off night. read more

I have been to Armour House many times since it has opened. I agree with many of the reviews below. It is a smaller space so noise could be an issue on crowded nights. The food is good but a little over-priced. I've only had only had one awkward experience and that was recently when I went with a few friends for dinner. It was a large party (8 is the limit for online reservations). We called one day to book and told to call the next day when the maître d was available to help us secure the reservation. So the next day, we called and asked for the maître d and whoever picked up the phone was FLOORED that we asked and said that we could've just booked through her. She let us book but kept saying over and over how it was going to be "very tight." (Very weird interaction and if it was my choice, I would've chosen another restaurant.) Night of the dinner, there were no issues. I'm not sure why she insisted there would not be enough space as there was plentyyy! Brooke was our server and she was AMAZING. She's been working there for some time so she made the best suggestions and we tried them all. I wouldn't say it's the best fine dining experience in the city but it's worth a try! Enjoy! read more

Overall, this was an average experience, surprising given how much this place is talked up. The design and space itself is beautiful, but the atmosphere fell short. It felt very busy and chaotic. The noise level was overwhelming. The table was large for two people, making conversation across it awkward, and we seemed to be placed in a high traffic area. Between constant foot traffic, silverware clanging, and people coming and going, it was difficult to relax. For a restaurant positioned as one of the pricier steakhouse options in Birmingham, I expected a more polished environment. Drinks were excellent and one of the highlights of the night. Dessert was also fantastic. We ordered the pastry special, and it ended up being the best thing we ate. Bread service was fine but unremarkable. The steaks were fine. Not memorable for the price point. We shared potatoes and a caesar salad, both enjoyable. Unfortunately, all of the food arrived lukewarm, which took away from the overall experience. Service was pleasant but not exceptional. Valet were the most welcoming staff and very friendly. In the end, nothing was bad, but nothing felt truly special either. Given the cost, there are other Birmingham restaurants that deliver a more premium, thoughtful experience from start to finish. read more

Came here for the Cinco De Mayo rooftop event. I had no idea this place had a rooftop. It would be a great place for a party! I hope they decide to do more events here. The event started at 5 and the staff wasn't quite ready and was still putting food out. For $25 you got a drink and 3 tacos. They had a margarita station set up where you could add flavors to your margarita and sample different Casamigos. The nacho bar was a hit. I hope they do plan to do more events this summer. read more

Celebrated a friend's 40th bday here on a Saturday evening! The space was really nice & perfect to celebrate a birthday with friends. We started with cocktails & I had just the house gin & tonic and was pleased that it was only $8. We shared the pork belly for an appetizer & it was tasty. I had the Waygu Beef Bolognese & it was filling & was really good! The items I tasted from my friends were all good also! The Bone in Pork Schnitzel was my fav though! Our server was knowledgeable of the menu & really nice. I was disappointed there was no chicken option on the menu since I try to limit my red meat & I didn't want seafood. Also, if you don't want to valet, carve out time to look for a park. It took me 10 min to locate a park 2 blocks from the restaurant. Overall it was a good experience. Armour House offers a cozy, upscale dining experience that feels special from start to finish. We kicked off the night with the caviar and wagyu tartare--both great, but the tartare was a standout. The bolognese was a highlight among generous entrée portions. Tried out Armour House recently and honestly, it's one of the best new spots I've been to in Birmingham. The space is gorgeous -- exposed brick, cozy lighting, and a cool mix of modern and classic vibes. Great place for a date night or a nicer dinner with friends. We started with the frites -- super fresh and full of flavor. Light but still satisfying, and beautifully plated. For the main dish, we tried seared Gulf fish, seafood risotto, bone-in Duroc pork chop, farm cabbage, and it was next-level good. Our server was great -- really friendly and on top of everything without hovering. Also helped us pick a wine that paired perfectly with dinner. Prices are on the higher side, but totally worth it for the quality and overall experience. Wanted to be blown away by Amour house but I was sadly let down. While everything we ate was good, it did not justify the prices. We made a reservation and the $25 per person fee for the res is soooo pretentious like yall need to relax. First thing I noticed when I came in was how loud it was, it calmed down as it got later in the night but I could barely hear the waiter speak. Our waiter was nice but she seemed to forget about us halfway through the meal which prolonged our stay there and we didn't leave until 9:00 pm. The food didn't take too long to come out but our steak wasn't very hot which was disappointing because it was $90! Now on to the positives... the bread service, drinks and dessert where all perfection! BUT I went for the entries and they were all fine. This was a $500 meal and it was not justified:( but I would come back for that bread!! And apps, drinks and desserts. (Armour and Lapeer seem very similar, menu wise, if you are trying to choose between the two, I would definitely pick Armour House.) read more

Came here for a business dinner. I had a gluten free Caesar Salad and a Prime tenderloin. Everything was perfect. For the table there was several charcuterie boards that were great. The skinny margarita was very good and the wine was awesome. I really like the space and we were able to have great conversations without it getting too loud. It was our 45th wedding anniversary. We heard so much about Armour House. We started with a drink in the speakeasy; it was a really cool. Expensive and cool. Armor House was ok. Allow me to explain. The noise level was hard to hear the person you are with. It was way too loud. Was decorated lovely. The service was outstanding in every way. From the moment we went into the reservation to the moment we left. The appetizer was lovely. It was tuna and very nicely done. The bread service was $12.00 and just OK. I love Hinkel bread, this was not the best I have had. The butter was outstanding. We split with a Wagu Australian 16 once rib eye. Cook perfectly at Medium Rare Plus. Yet it was Lukewarm. That was very disappointing. The potatoes were interesting but not great. We will be back for happy hour at the speak easy but not going to go back to the restaurant. It this worth a try, YES. I have had some of the greatest steaks in our country, so I might have had higher expectations then other do. Eat well, drink well and stay healthy. read more

Thanks to our most wonderful server, Kiomi a woman with Many talents. Whipped Goat Cheese: Capriole cheese, Local Honey, pistachio, espelette pepper, herbs served with crispy toasted Lavash. I can't imagine a finer last meal starter. Whipped Goodness. 1/2 Dozen Gulf Oysters: Fresh Briney server with a 2 sauces one was a blend of acid, herbs with a touch of sweet. Very good. I always like horseradish with my oysters so I asked for some. I have never been served fresh grated horseradish. I was wowed by the combination. I am officially spoiled. Also worth mentioning while trying to keep this shorter Is: Seared Gulf Red Snapper on a crab bisque with a fresh veg succotash :) Beef Tenderloin with some of the best wood fired mushrooms. Ribeye with the Tallow Frites which you need now. All these dishes cooked to perfection, seasoned well but not overly done. Hay your youngest only turns 29 once. This was our first time trying this place after numerous attempts of getting a reservation. I can see why there is such a desire to come here. The ambiance and decor set the tone for a true dining experience. The complimentary valet is so awesome also. Once we were in, the attendant at the front desk greeted us immediately and took us right to our seat. Our server came right over and greeted us and started making suggestions for our dinner. We had the pork schnitzel and seared gulf fish. Both entree's were excellent!! The food was prepared to perfection. One thing we loved was that they had a person to bring out our entree's separately! The last time that happened was when we were at Emeril's out of town on a trip. The desserts were nothing short of our dinner. The bread pudding and peaches and cream were definitely made when we ordered them. They were so fresh tasty. After a delicious meal, we decided to go downstairs to Pogo which is the speak easy connected to the restaurant. There was a three string band playing that was excellent. My my! Is how I must start to say how amazing my experience was. Walking in it was a very nice atmosphere and welcoming! It made me excited for what was to come. We started off with bread and salads which were enough for us to share. The Caesar was wonderful! The other salad was ok but not for me. Started off with the pork belly and steak tartar, both were excellent, particularly the steak tartar, some of the best i have ever had. They had a special on a dry aged ribeye that was absolutely fantastic, so much flavor, and for sides we did the fries and brussel sprouts, huge portions and really good. The wine selection is huge, so its really just finding what you like, we had an excellent Italian red for about 140.00. Cocktails were really good too. What really stood out was the service, i hate when places try to rush you, this place was great, no rush, take your time, staff always there when we needed them. I will say it was a little loud in the dining area, maybe they could put in some sound dampeners up on the ceiling. The place is extremely pricy but it is well worth it. read more

I rarely write reviews, but my recent experience at Armour House in Birmingham was frustrating enough to warrant one. Let me start by saying the food was exceptional. The tuna was fresh and flavorful, the crab claws were perfectly chilled, the spinach salad was crisp and well-balanced, and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Truly, the kitchen deserves five stars. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the service -- specifically the bartender, who soured an otherwise great evening. After just three drinks over the course of a relaxed night out with a friend, I was abruptly cut off. I wasn't drunk, unruly, or even remotely inappropriate -- I was simply enjoying myself. Yet I was told I needed to drink multiple glasses of water before they would even consider serving me again. It felt condescending and humiliating, especially considering I was sitting quietly and respectfully the entire time. I've never felt so insulted in a dining setting. There's a way to look out for patrons' well-being without crossing into presumptuous or patronizing behavior. This wasn't it. Sadly, despite the excellent food, I don't plan to return. A great meal doesn't make up for being treated like a problem when you're just trying to enjoy your night. read more

Went to Armour House last night, was so impressed by the space. The greeting at the door was flawless. Bar is just beautiful A perfect place for drinks and to wait for your party. The tables were spaced out well and ours was really nice. The air blowing on me was a little uncomfortable but it's been so hot that it wasn't too bad. Our server was so well versed in everything about the restaurant. The story, the food and made some really good recommendations for us. My steak tartare was just what I wanted. My Rib eye was like crunchy butter. Absolutely what a ribeye should be. The tomato and cucumber side was an absolute hit with me. And the mushrooms were delicious. Dessert was good but a lot. Tough to finish and would recommend sharing one for 2 people. The absolute only drawback was the noise. But it was easily my best experience in Birmingham since moving here in October. read more

An all-around, amazing experience! You walk into the beautiful historic building, and every detail was thought through in decor and ambiance. I started with the seasonal gin and tonic, recommended by the waitress, and I would highly recommend it. We then tried the chargrilled oysters, and they were the star of the meal! They do all the little things right and make sure everyone is happy and served well. The drinks we had were delicious and our server was willing to add his recommendations as well. Interestingly, it was the second place we've been that used to be an Armour butchering facility. The food was excellent, although a bit on the pricey side. We opted to share an entrée--the ribeye steak--which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. They sliced it up for easy sharing, though we would have preferred it served whole. After dinner, we headed downstairs to the speakeasy, a charming spot that is definitely worth a visit. Naturally, we were quite early so the crowd hadn't really gotten going. Went tonight for a friend's birthday. Truly one of the best, if not THE best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Great ambiance, perfect lighting, beautiful decor. We got 3 appetizers to share (raw oysters, bread service, and armour frites) - all delicious. The armour frites (fries) came with a ramp aioli sauce to dip, that was to die for! I got the seared gulf fish (picture below) and my friend got the mushroom risotto. Both were excellent. We got brussel sprouts as a side - the best I've tasted! So crispy with a great flavor. The gelato was perfect. There wasn't a single thing we didn't care for. Our server and all workers we came across were friendly and helpful. Valet service was great as well. Amazing night out . Started with the complimentary valet staff , walked us in to introduce us to the hostesses. Hostesses checked us in said would be small wait and showed us the main bar and walked us down to the POGO speak easy and ordered us an adult beverage . Food service was quick and efficient. Quality of food is top notch and quantity is surprisingly generous for a high end restaurant. This is a very nice setting but not pompous . The people watching is also very entertaining. I know this is a hot take, but one of if not the best steaks in B'ham! We started with the corn bisque and pork belly both which are incredibly delicious and fresh. We then split the 16 oz wagyu ribeye and wow - the marbling was incredible and cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the succotash with the lovely addition of the aioli and the rapini which was lightly charred. We finished with the affogato and the bon bon service which were both good. Great selection of drinks (although only a few draught beers) and service was great. We are already planning our return! read more

Amour House offers delicious cuts of aged beef, great service and ideal, "date night" ambiance.The food and service are definitely above average...however, Amour House was not the transcendent dining experience expected for this price point. Enjoy the vibe and a steak, but skip the overpriced appetizers, sides and desserts. Armour House is a beautiful concept that the city of Birmingham was missing. It is pleasantly designed and the open kitchen is really fun. The food was delicious overall. The pork chop did lack a flavor but the seared gulf fish was bursting with flavors but was a little salty. The staff were professional and knowledgeable about the menu which is always a plus. We celebrated a birthday at the Armour House and it is a cozy(yet large) dining room, nicely appointed bar and large windows to view the city streets, amazing! We started out with bread(fabulous) and a charcuterie board amazing choices! The staff was so attentive and helpful with our menu and drink selections. Water glasses and drinks were never left unattended, soiled plates removed promptly and always a smile on their faces. I had the filet, perfectly cooked medium, juicy and charred. One of our dinners had the Gulf Fish on rice and gumbo base and yet another had the Mushroom Risotto. All presented very well, our only complaint, everything tasted too salty.
