This place was SUPER cute , is a family owned restaurant run by 3 sisters sharing their late mom's recipes , & is FLAVOR BOMB.COM . We got the catfish (SO tender & unique & flavorful), the eggplant & shrimp , khao poon (coconut curry noodle soup), & this amazing Laotian dumpling dish called Sakoo Sai Moo. EVERYTHING was SO GOOD...Our favorite was the catfish (which I don't even usually like) as it was steamed in banana leaf and had this very earth, herbal flavor which we found so delicious. The eggplant and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The dumplings were so unique and is a must try at least once (there are a lot of dumplings). The Khao Poon coconut curry soup had juuuus the right amount of kick. Atmosphere is 5 stars...it's just really cute. Service is 5 stars. I just LOVE how it's run by 3 sisters and Mina on the weekend (one of the sisters) was an excellent host. Thanks go Chef Kat who came by our table to check on us as well. 3.5 STARS I'm boring so where did I get my spice? SE AZN food! It's hard to find a Laotian resto that isn't clumped in with Thai and/or Khmer cuisine so Lao Garden piqued my interest. Walk-in only. But if you have a party of 5+, rezzies are accepted. Back patio is dog-friendly. F O O D * Nam Khao: Crispy Rice w/ fermented pork sausage, peanuts, lettuce, herbs ($25): https://tinyurl.com/yn97yper Many rave reviews on socials saying this is the best nam khao and worth the price. The crunchy, chewy texture was on-point and they were generous with the naem, fermented pork sausage....but it was oddly bland, like they forgot to dress it with the spicy, punchy acidic dressing. * Thu Lith's Famous Saikoo: Steamed tapioca balls w/ ground pork, sweet radishes, shallots ($25): https://tinyurl.com/5n8xnhsz Saikoo is hard to find so this was a must order on our visit. The saikoo had a nice bouncy QQ chew and is filled with a ground pork mixture. Flavor leaned sweet. If you like Viet bánh bột lọc, this will be your jam. * Mok Pa: Steamed catfish w/ lemongrass, green onions, dill, steamed vegetables, jeow mak len ($22): https://tinyurl.com/yxrvnxjb The catfish was flaky and moist but the flavor was one note: earthy. I wished they used more fish sauce and aromatics (i.e. lemongrass and galangal) for citrusy umami. Served with nam jim jaew that felt diluted as it was missing the bold spicy, tangy, salty, and slightly sweet flavors. * Sticky Rice ($8) Aside from the incredibly steep price for a single serving, they brought this with the apps so by the time our entrees arrived, the sticky rice had cooled and hardened. S E R V I C E Friendly and earnest. We had to flag them down for things but understandable since we were the only ones in the patio. We arrived for an early dinner and were the only customers at the time so it was surprising food service was slow with entrees taking 45+ minutes. A M B I A N C E Spacious and vibrant with faux greenery and flower walls. The back patio is partially covered. P A R K I N G They have a private parking lot in back but can easily be missed; take a right after April Rose Provisions. Overall, I had high hopes for Lao Garden but the flavors were far too mild for my personal taste. When I have Laotian food, I want to be punched in the face with funk, citrus/acid, and heat. My friend (who's half Lao) was visiting from Atlanta, and since there's an abundance of Lao cuisine here in the Bay Area, we had to try one out! We narrowed it down to three and chose Lao Garden because of the positive reviews and authentic menu items. Lao Garden did NOT disappoint!! We visited during Memorial Day for lunch. PARKING There's a sign outside, but I missed it. Parking is available at the back of the restaurant as well as street parking. SERVICE Since it was a week day for lunch and it was a holiday, the restaurant wasn't at capacity. There was one server who was attentive and wonderful! We met the owner and head chef, Kanlaya, who was very friendly. I could see her passion for Lao cuisine and her desire for guests to enjoy it. FOOD We were pretty excited so ordered quite a few items to try -- we definitely had leftovers. Everything was DELISH. * Pandan Green Tea -- delicious! * SAI QUA (Lao sausage) -- made fresh. Meaty and herbaceous. It was grilled and charred. Yum! * THU LITH'S FAMOUS SAIKOO --My friend was waiting to try this, which was the main reason we chose Lao Garden. It was excellent. Under "Wraps," these are steamed tapioca balls filled with pork. The tapioca balls were fresh, soft, and chewy, while the pork filling was well-seasoned and balanced. It was served with lettuce, mint, and parsley. * MOK PA -- Steamed catfish with lemongrass, dill, onions, and wrapped in banana leaves. A favorite of mine! Light and aromatic. It was served with steamed veggie medley and jeow mak len (tomato dipping sauce with various spices). * EGGPLANT PRAWNS -- Seasoned and tasty. Eggplant and prawns cooked to perfection. Since it was lunch, there was a special for this entree. * FRIED CHICKEN WINGS w/ PAPAYA SALAD -- This was also a lunch special served with sticky rice. We were chatting with the owner, and she was kind enough to change it to Lao style, which is more pungent with the umami from fermented fish sauce. The wings were crispy, and the papaya salad was well-balanced and tasty. Discovering Lao Garden was a fantastic experience, and we truly enjoyed their delicious dishes. I can't wait to return and share this hidden gem with friends and family so they can enjoy it too.

My friend introduced me to this cute spot. The food was great and the staff were friendly. I am fairly new to Lao cuisine. We tried the Vientiane Crispy Rolls, Thu Lith's Famous Saikoo, Thum Lao Lao, Kua Khao, and Mango Sticky Rice. Everything was so flavorful! We had ordered the Thum Lao Lao as medium spicy and that built up fast! I'd be interested in returning to try other dishes. Great neighborhood spot!

I'm a new fan of Lao Garden! One of my friends and I came here on our lunch break. We chose this spot for convenience, and we both couldn't stop saying it'll be on our work lunch rotation! We came on a weekday, and it was super quiet. There weren't many diners, so service was excellent! We were constantly checked on, and everything came out quickly. We both loved the vibes! Super colorful with bright and cute decor. Plus a spacious dining area with ample tables for various party sizes. It's also nicely lit inside. My friend and I shared the Nam Khao and Thu Lith's Famous Saikoo. Oh my gosh, these dishes were phenomenal! I'd never tried either, and I couldn't get over all the flavors. The Nam Khao was tangy and savory, and it was perfect with the lettuce. The Saikoo was so chewy, well-seasoned, and filling! We had leftovers for both, but appreciated how outstanding and fresh everything was. I look forward to coming back to Lao Garden with my friends and family. It's the perfect place for family-style dining in Berkeley. I recommend anyone in the area try it, whether you're familiar with or new to Laotian cuisine. Find them off San Pablo Ave. with metered parking in front and a parking lot in the back.

The first thing you notice when you enter the restaurant is that you really get the feeling that you're in a garden. And the colorful lighting and the things that they have set around the room to represent Leo is really a wonderful first impression. We were quickly seated at a table that we wanted to be at and menus arrived with water almost immediately. I have to say everyone who worked there that we felt very special coming in there, and everyone greeted us. From the kitchen staff to the table servers it was very pleasant. Lao food is similar, but very different from Thai food so when you go there, but don't be expecting it to be a Thai experience. Enjoy the wonderful flavors of all the herbs and spices that go into making the sauces in the broth. And where Thai focuses on peppers and seasonings that are too hot for some people. The Lao food has very soft and vibrant flavors. We shared our plates. So we ordered the Nam Khao, Thu Lith Saikoo, Laab Gal, sticky rice, blue lemonade, and coconut mango with sweet rice. If I tried to pick a fav ... I couldn't because every bite was lovely. We will return and explore new items. The adventure continues. Ty Lao Garden. Until we return.

Love the flavor profile on the drunken noodle, Those that love their noodles extra thick and wide, look no further. On the other hand, can't go wrong with the classic red coconut curry with noodles and chicken! Creamy but not overly heavy. Both were great individual or sharing portions!

Absolutely delicious food, you can tell there is love and pride in every dish. Perfectly seasoned and flavorful. I had the joy of coming here back in January and couldn't stop talking about the restaurant. The owner personally came and checked in on the table and introduced herself. We happened to come here for our girlfriend's birthday celebration and it turned out to be a vegetarian day for most of us so this review is based on vegetarian entrees we ordered. One of our girlfriend did order a meat larb which we didn't try and I forgot to take a picture of. Upon entering, the place is decorated with cute fake flowers backdrop. We were the first ones there and got to choose where we wanted to sit indoor which was very nice. They had outdoors seating as well. We ordered as many vegetarian dishes as possible and I made a note on my phone but somehow some of the entrees in my notepad showed up bold and enlarged and some didn't and our waitress only wrote down what was bold and enlarged so we tried less than we wanted to. By the time we wondered where the rest of our food was and found out the reason, we didn't order the rest because it would take longer than the two hours we already put in for meter parking. A few of us ordered Lao tea and some lycee tea. The Lao tea I heard was super sweet so ask for more ice if it's too sweet to your liking. My lycee tea was sweet as well but not overwhelming sweet. We especially enjoyed the vegetarian larb and the vegeterian papaya salad with vermicelli. The pineapple fried rice and jackfruit salad was a little wet to our liking. We ordered two mango sticky rice and one the pandan sticky rice was better and the sticky rice fell apart more. Overall, this place is nice for meeting up with a large group and cute for a girls day out. There's street parking and meter parking and you may need to drive a few rounds around if you're not so lucky. The food was okay but food did take awhile once you order so give yourself time here if you go in a bigger group since it seems like there's one chef and one person running the place herself. But she's a sweetheart doing her best holding down the cute looking restaurant.

Came here on a Saturday for lunch around 1pm. No wait for party of 2. The decor inside is super cute and girly. Service was quick. We ordered spring rolls, Vientiane crispy rolls, mok pa, Lao steak and Lao iced tea pandan. The spring roll was very light and fresh, it came with a sweet oyster dipping sauce. You could tell the veggies were fresh and good quality. The Vientiane crispy rolls were also delicious and flavorful. It has a nice balance and very refreshing to eat with the lettuce. The Lao Steak had a good grilled flavor however it didn't have much lemongrass flavor and was very small. The size looked like an appetizer but was $32. The mok pa had great lemongrass and dill flavor. It was wrapped with vegetables outside and the banana leaf. However it came out kind of cold where I had to ask the waitress if the dish was to be served cold. They sent it back and had it steamed longer since it was supposed to come out hot. Once it came out hot it was tasty with the tomato sauce and rice. The iced tea with pandan was great, had good pandan flavor and wasn't overly sweet. Overall would come back, it's a little pricey though.

Offerings (Laotian): wraps, noodles, stew/curry, platter specials, desserts, small plates, chef's specials, fried rice, grills, roasts, soup, salads(yum, Thum, laab) Bites: seen savanh (12) -dehydrated pork pieces, flash fried. No hint of oil.. Very chewy. Frying can be skipped. Probably goes good with beer. (Too early for me.) -flavorful. Takes getting used to. Gang Phet Gai (chicken) 18 -stew like dish a mix of red curry, chicken pieces, green beans. Bamboo shoots, lemongrass & basil. -best eaten with rice but I passed. -nice alternative to classic curry. Slightly spicy, not overly sweet like American curry version. The herbs adds nuanced flavas.. I like.. Thu Lith Saikoo (22) should be shared. -similar principle as Nam Kao. House made steamed tapioca balls with ground pork, roasted peanuts, sweet radishes, shallots within. -place a ball within partial lettuce leaf. add drizzle of chili oil & other leafy herbs. Eat slowly, repeat. Prefer nam kao. Portion too big for me. Carbs an issue. 4.5 stars Worthy! Quality: Ultra. Quantity: reasonable for top quality-YMMV

This is the location of the former Italian restaurant - Paisan - which I'm a little sad of their closing because they had a great budget friendly, delicious ribeye steak. But Lao Garden did a nice job of transforming the space - colorful, vibrant and cozy - which seems to be the trend among Thai/Lao restaurants these days. Not that I'm complaining. This space has a huge back area which they aren't fully utilizing. Perhaps if/when they become more popular, they can have a real "Lao garden" with a fountain and all. Staff is attentive and friendly, deserving of 5 stars. Their dishes were solid and on theme with the interior decor. I had ordered the Thum Lao Lao, which is basically Lao style papaya salad. For those that aren't familiar, basically they use a thicker/cloudier and more pungent fish sauce which they refer to as "funky". For those that are less into funk, they do have the Thai style papaya salad - Thum Tum Ma-Da, which tends to be milder since they use the clear, less "fishy" fish sauce. But to be honest, theirs isn't the funkiest in town, in case you felt adventurous but needed that stepping stone. I also ordered the Khao Poon Gai, which was good. The chicken was tender and moist, and loved the contrast of the fresh veggies and herbs to compliment the hot soup and noodles. But I had to inject some of the funk from the Thum Lao^2 to elevate it to what my taste buds have been calibrated to from eating my Laotian friends' authentic home cooking. Over all, expect a good dining experience keeping in mind that the flavors have been toned down a notch to accommodate Western palates.

The ambience is wonderful and the restaurant has several well thought out decorations, making it the perfect little aesthetic lunch spot. Very clean restaurant which is always very important for me. The service was great! The restaurant is family run and the family is very considerate to explain to their guests not only what certain ingredients are but also a bit of history into the food. I order the Thum Loa Loa with a side of sticky rice since I like to pair together carbs and a refreshing savory salad. You get to choose the level of spice for your salad: 1 chili, 2 (medium)chili, or 3 (very spicy). I had ordered the medium which was indeed spicy, I think next time I will go for the one because it was very spicy but still delicious. A group of my friends decided to try this restaurant since we had never had Laotian food before. Wow! It was delicious! We thought the food was very flavorful and there was a wide variety of dishes to choose from. We ordered Laab Gai, Nam Khao, Drunken Noodle, Eggplant Prawns, Lao Steak, Mango Sticky Rice and Fried banana with ice cream. Everything was fresh, and we felt we were taken well care of. The place had great decor - my friend and I were excited to check it out. She ordered wings and drunken noodles, and I ordered the steamed fish. She got her orders first, and was surprised that the wings came with no sauce in the top but rather on the side. She also mentioned some of the vegetables in her drunken noodles tasted off. My steam fish took a while, and it was ok. I was bummed because several friends wanted to check out the place and I wanted to like it. I work nearby and ordered lunch on a whim because I've been curious about Lao Garden for a while. I had a fantastic experience, both with food and service. I ordered the Nam Khao and it was delicious: refreshing and full of flavor with perfectly crispy rice. It was a little pricey for lunch for one person, but there were definitely plenty of leftovers. The woman at the front of the house who was handling my order went above and beyond with customer service. We're always on the lookout for new Laotian restaurants near us and randomly stumbled across this one. We had never tried Saikoo before and so we ordered it--a great decision, the textural and flavor components definitely worked together. Sai Oua (Lao sausage) was a must-get for us and this one satisfied that craving. The Laab Moo was light, refreshing, and tasty. The only drawback food-wise was the Khao Poon Gai, which we found too rich. The interior was richly adorned and very vibrant. Worth trying for sure! read more

Authentic Laotian food! Look no further. Found this gem on a whim. Was craving Lao style cuisine early on a warm Saturday. Upon entering your eye has many places to look. The ambiance was open and inviting. There were ample, and different types of seating areas inside, as well as a large back patio, and full bar. Service was rather on point and very friendly. We had the pleasure of meeting Kanlaya (owner/chef). She took time to both introduce herself and background on the restaurant, asking us about our experience and their food (which btw was packed with amazing flavor while presented in a beautiful and inviting fashion.) It was an immensely pleasing meal, that was enhanced by the numerous touches and small details which present as well considered. The menu does not indicate if an item is GF. However, you may need to inquire for specific food allergens. We will happily return and continue working our way through the menu. read more

The restaurant is well decorated with fake colorful, flowers and real plants. We were seated in immediately however only one server was working and at least eight parties were inside and many more outside. Needless to say service was not good, but the food made up for it. Disappointing experience. The food really missed the mark. The drunken noodles were a mess -- clumpy noodles, overly sweet sauce, undercooked green beans, and overcooked pork. As for the crab fried rice, it was full of shell bits and had an odd sweetness. The nam khao was the worst i've ever had. The limey taste full of huge pieces of burnt rice ... honestly felt like the food-was cooked by someone with little experience. It took a while to get the dishes & came out one at a time. 5 Stars - A Hidden Gem You've Gotta Try! My family and I discovered Lao Garden while out for lunch before dropping off our granddaughter--and WOW, what a five-star experience from start to finish! This place is an absolute gem, and it's already secured a spot on our favorites list. As soon as we walked in, we felt at ease. The vibe is clean, cozy, and welcoming, with a warm, relaxed atmosphere that just feels right. We let our server, Gia, know right away that we planned to enjoy everything family-style--her smile lit up as she said, "Perfect! That's how we do it here!" It was such a great sign that we were in the right place. We kicked things off with the Crispy Rice Balls (Nam Khao), and let me tell you... game changer! Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, topped with slices of som moo (Laotian fermented pork) and drizzled with a tangy sauce. Every bite was bursting with flavor and texture--seriously addictive! Next up, we shared the Drunken Noodles and Fried Crab Rice--both knocked it out of the park! The noodles had a bold, spicy kick with vibrant, fresh veggies, and the crab rice was packed with sweet, tender crab meat and rich seasoning. Each dish was generous, beautifully plated, and made for sharing--just like Gia said! To top it all off, we couldn't resist the Fried Bananas with Vanilla Ice Cream --a warm, crispy, sweet finish paired with cool, creamy ice cream. Simple and perfect. My first experience at Lao Garden was extraordinary enough to mend what I thought was a forever-hole in my heart stemming from the loss of the space's former occupant, my beloved and oft visited Paisan (RIP, sweet friend!) Ate here with my mom and brother, and I'd pregamed my choices via a good photo stalk - I'm so glad I did. From the starters menu, Laotian sausage (Lao Sai Oua) and the omelet were both 'new to me' dishes, and they started us off with a bang. These were the stars of the night for us. From there, we did the Red curry based Khao Poon - also basing this decision on a photo - and a Beef Laarb, plus some extra sticky rice (one of the dishes came with rice and the extra order was a good call for our selections.) The Khao poon was SWOON worthy, definitely would get that again as well. The Laarb, while delicious - and, at medium spicy, appropriate to our expected heat level - didn't particularly stand out, but this could be because we were so wowed by the other dishes that it faded into a sidekick role. For the three of us, the 2 apps, one saucy option, and one dry-fried option plus the 2 total sticky rices were a perfect amount, and we'd all come in pretty ravenous after an active day. Our servers were great - warm, attentive without hovering, and shared the family origins of the place. We're planning to return soon - the crispy rice lettuce wrap section of the menu still haunts me. 10/10 (note: we're a hard family to please. We grew up with gardens bursting with produce, all cook a fair amount, and might be accused of being ingredient quality snobs as well as being technique obsessed in our own kitchens. Would give ten stars if I could. Stopped in here for dinner with a friend. From the moment I walked in I was continually impressed. The ambiance, service, and food are all amazing. Genuinely one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Food took well over an hour and it took the staff 15-20 minutes to gives us water and another 15-20 minutes to take our order. Not to mention the food was mediocre. We wanted to order dessert after our food and by the time the staff finally payed attention to us (even thought they walked past multiple times) it had been 25-30 minutes later and they then informed us the kitchen was closed, with no prior notice. Inedible. Just disgusting. I ordered their kaosoy to go and all it came with was a soup and cabbage and a large, hard clump of rice noodles. I had to cut my own green onions and add it in myself. I also got their beef larb and the beef was incredibly hard to chew. Honestly the nastiest meal I've ever had. Will not be coming back here. read more

Wonderful food, attentive service and very nice ambiance. I live in the neighborhood. My partner and I arrived a little after 6 pm on a Saturday evening. We were warmly greeted. The restaurant's interior is modern, spacious, light, bright and cheerful. There was plenty of seating available when we arrived, but by the time we left an hour later, every table was taken. Clearly this is a popular place. Two tables had young children, so yes this place is family friendly. The noise level is mild, so it is easy to hear your table partner. We ordered the Nam Kao, which was delicious and different from anything I've had before. We ordered other things, too, which were very tasty, I just remember the Nam Kao in particular. I went on a Monday right at lunchtime when they were opening, but their door was locked. I got back in my car to call and sure enough they said they were open. I also saw some other people try and get in and they then opened the door. The place was really lovely. The waitress I had was nice. We had lunch at Lao Garden in Berkeley this afternoon. It was quiet, but the atmosphere was pretty cool since it was a bit industrial with and has an open kitchen. Service was unusually slow and we had to flag down our waitress a few times throughout our meal to refill our water container. When the dishes came out, the food was warm and not hot. On my way out, I just had to order a takeout bag for my husband to try when i got home by ordering the chicken pineapple fried rice and spring rolls for him. Came here on a Saturday afternoon with my sister after two intense workouts, and we were starving. We ordered the Lao papaya salad, deep-fried fish, and kaosoy. The Lao papaya salad was absolutely delicious--I'll definitely order it again! The deep-fried fish was exactly what you'd expect: the fish was fresh, crispy, and perfectly cooked. No complaints there. However, I was highly disappointed with the kaosoy. They ran out of hofun noodles, so we opted for pho noodles instead. Regardless of the noodle type, the dish itself was incredibly bland--it tasted like water and noodles, which was not worth the $18. The broth was clear and lacked the rich, fermented bean paste flavor that kaosoy should have. They were also very skimpy with the ground pork. I regretted ordering it. For a more authentic kaosoy noodle soup, I recommend Vientiane Cafe in Oakland. Overall, this place has some hits and misses, but I'd return for the papaya salad and to try some new dishes. read more

Lao garden replaces Paisan, retaining Paisan's upscale look and feel. The food feels modern and fresh while still serving traditional Lao dishes (i.e. larb) at good price points. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. This review was during LG's soft opening, so things like the beer taps were non-functional, although they still had Lao beer and wine. Likewise some menu items were unavailable. Unlike Paisan, this restaurant is indoor only and the back patio is not open for dining. They are targeting early February for their official opening. You may do things like park your bike on the back patio. read more

At most restaurants, there's always at least one thing that someone doesn't like, and often multiple things that multiple people don't like. Not the case here. The appetizer was the spicy basil wings. Very good to start. But little did I know what was coming my way. The drinks were Thai tea and lychee limeade. The Thai tea was normal. As in good, I liked it. The lychee limeade was amazing, had to order another one. I would like to try the mango next time (there will definitely be a next time). Very sour, which I love. I hate lemonade that's not sour enough. Oh and that too, I usually hate limeade, don't really care for lemonade, and don't drink soda. I usually only drink water, juice, or tea (no coffee, alcohol rarely). So that's saying something. The Laos fried spring roll entree was really good. I always liked fried rolls but something about this tasted better. They were Laotian rolls, so maybe that was part of the difference from the ones you get from Pho restaurants. The duck over rice was amazing. I'm not usually one to pick duck, I don't mind it but I usually don't order it, but this was my mom's choice and it was really good. I like the sauce too. The Panang duck curry was so good. My mom doesn't even like curry and she liked it. And the Chiang Mai soup dish, I've never had anything like it. It was still hot after, I don't know, 20 minutes maybe? At the bottom especially. We all ate this together at the end, while the other dishes were in the order I listed them for myself (mostly, kinda switched around a bit eating family style), and generally the same for everyone else. I tasted a tiny bit of the soup in the beginning and thought it was nothing special, like when my spoon was clean it was the first thing I scooped. Only the soup though, none of the stuff inside. Honestly I didn't read what was in it, some crispy noodle or something. I was not sure if I would like it but my sister said she had it in Thailand and liked it so if I didn't like it she could eat it. That ended up not being a problem. Okay so anyway, we started on the soup at the end. To start, it was pretty good. Somehow, every bite we took tasted better and better, for at least like 5-10 bites maybe. At that point, I was thinking it's the best thing I've ever tasted. (But of course that's probably not actually true, and I'm just falling for the recency bias, kind of like how my favorite song changes all the time.) Never had anything like it. I've been missing out. But wow, I have to come back. And I highly recommend this place. Life changing experience honestly. Like if you asked me right now if I wanted to get Japanese or Korean (my other favorites) food or this, I would go here. I honestly wanted more of every single dish, especially the fried spring rolls, duck over rice, duck curry, and soup. Wait a second... that's all the entrees we ordered! Also the limeade. I need to get that again. But I also want to try other stuff next time so I'm torn. I literally need all 4 of these dishes again so I don't know what to do. I hope these dishes aren't seasonal or otherwise temporary. I noticed the menu had a month and year listed (I think it said April 2026 and it's May 3 2026 today) so I believe they update it frequently. If I lived closer I would come 20 times in a row and try every single thing, but unfortunately I live in San Ramon so it's not like I'm trying to go to Oakland every day. Soon though. My sister lives there, if I were her I would go here every day until I was sick of it, if that could ever be possible. I don't know if I could ever enjoy other food this much again. I was also completely sober so it wasn't like I had munchies or anything (felt I should specify being a young adult who grew up in California). Hmm, that gives me an idea for the future though. Even the pricing is fair (no dishes over $30), and the place is nice. Great service too. The only drawbacks are small tables for parties over 4 people, and it's REALLY loud in the restaurant, but well worth it. If you are sensitive to noise I'd recommend earplugs, earmuffs, earbuds, headphones, or something. The place is also relatively small. I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night. It got busy, very busy. Well our reservation was at 6 and it wasn't crowded yet, a couple tables open, but by the time our food came out the place was absolutely packed and I think people without reservations had to wait to sit. I'm not sure though, I was too focused on the amazing food to care. Anyway, once again, highly recommend and I will be back.

Recommend adding this to any meal balance out the other fried items. Kao Piak - I find that most places over cook their chickens, but the meats here were cooked perfectly. Broth was a bit salty for me, and I usually like the broth thicker, but still good overall. Mango Sticky Rice - I liked the crispy fried rice bits that added a nice crunch. Mango wasn't quite in season right now, but it was still sweet and soft enough. Overall service was great, and there is a lot of parking in the area. Def recommend checking it out.

(I guess the bakers got too enthusiastic with the water bath.) The crumb was tight but came off more as dry than chewy. And the malt syrup was poured with a liberal hand -- there is no subtlety to the flavor. To their credit, the cream cheese is well paired. It brings its own flavor with a noticeable tang, and it is dense. You need a bagel that will hold up under the pressure of a knife while spreading the thick schmear. I love that Saul's is making bagels in house now, but I think I will look elsewhere on their menu for the real comfort foods.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at the newly opened Lao Garden in Berkeley, California, and I must say, it is truly a hidden gem. The moment we entered, we were captivated by the exquisite decor and inviting ambiance that set the stage for a delightful culinary experience. For lunch, we opted for their Mok Seabass, an exceptional dish featuring Chilean seabass steamed with lemongrass and complemented by a medley of green onions and dill, all wrapped elegantly in a banana leaf. It was a harmonious blend of flavors that truly transported me to the heart of Laos. We also indulged in the Thum Lao Lao, a spicy papaya salad that was both refreshing and vibrant. The Soop Nor Mai, consisting of shredded bamboo shoots with a smoky chili kick, perfectly balanced by soft herbs and toasted sesame seeds, was another highlight of the meal.
