Whoever said 'location, location, location' certainly didn't have Langdon's in mind. Get past its location (in the Bi-Lo shopping center at Johnny Dodds and N. Shelmore) ... it's also near I'On. Having dined at Langdon's twice before, it was on the top of my list when my dear friend. Mike K, asked me to choose a special restaurant for the three of us (including my hub) to celebrate my milestone BDay. Entering Langdon's, we quickly felt its downtown vibe ... we were in the midst of a bustling bar scene. With its long, long, well- stocked bar and many high top tables against the partition wall, it's a perfect setting to enjoy a cocktail, beer, glass of wine and a small plate(s) for happy hour, before dinner, or a casual evening. We were seated in the attractive, formal dining room and was quickly acknowledged by our server. While the wine list was decent, I chose an oldie, but a goody - Pimm's Cup, and it was perfect. The guys enjoyed a glass of the house red wine ... we were off to s great start! A basket of warm, crusty bread was quickly brought to the table, accompanied with very creamy butter. To start, each of us ordered the curried duck and mint spring rolls with a jalapeño - coconut dipping sauce ($9). There were at least 8 others delicious options, but no one wanted to share. We loved dipping each piece of the plump, crispy rolls in the yummy sauce. A cool, tangy asian slaw was an unexpected, colorful, and tasty addition for our first course. The second course options included soup du jour and a selection of imaginative salads. We each selected the salad with baby arugula, goat cheese and caramelized Bosc pears, tossed with a smoky bacon-shallot vinaigrette ($10). The sugary pears and creamy cheese complemented the peppery greens ... and of course, everything went well with the bacon! For his entree, my husband selected the fresh tagliatelle bolognese with Pecorino Romano cheese ($19). I felt the dish was not the best choice as Italian fare is not a specialty of the house ... but, he loves pasta. Mike quickly decided on the shrimp and grits, his fave. As an 'ex-pat newbie' from Baltimore, I've only savored 'shrimp and grits' at Husk ... so, my bar for this dish has been set quite high. While I'm sure that any of the main course dishes would have been fab, I had a hunch that exec chef/owner Patrick Owens' take on Charleston's best known dish would measure up. So, I also ordered the 'shrimp with prosciutto, roasted tomatoes, scallions and smoked bacon over stone ground grits ($25).' I wanted a side of wilted spinach and Mike wanted a side of the seasonal veggie, squash. Our adorable server discouraged the additional items as our dish included both veggies (refreshing, huh?). Mike then ordered a portion of the house made duck sausage barley ... he loves duck and loves barley ($6)! Our entrees arrived ... we were delighted, to say the least. The dish was aromatic and attractively plated. There were at least 10 plump, large, local shrimp ... and the chef was not skimpy with the other ingredients. I'be learned 'not to judge a book by it's cover,' but after the first mouthful, all I could say was wow! Everything on the well balanced plate, worked together, yet, held its own. And, while Mike didn't 'need' the 'side,' we both loved the tender duck and barley and I was glad that Mike didn't pass on it. The meal was dreamy! We mopped every morsel of the delicately seasoned broth with a fresh basket of the warm. crusty bread. We were all stuffed and happy. (My husband said his dish, though not exceptional, was tasty.) Before we even considered dessert, our server surprised me with a special Birthday treat ... two large, house made, fresh and warm chocolate chip cookies, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. I couldn't wait to dig in... however, the guys encouraged me to first, make a wish and blow out the candle (that was inserted in the warm cookie). This combo was swoon worthy! There were several yummy dessert options. Mike wanted 'what I had' as the aroma of the warm cookie was intoxicating. My husband passed on dessert, choosing to enjoy a glass of red wine. Langdon's is fine dining at its best ... and now that Mount Pleasant's best kept secret is out, be sure to put it on the top of your list when looking for a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, or a memorable meal with that special someone. read more

Great dinner tonight. First time here visiting from out of town. We are foodies so our travels are usually around good food cities. Was concerned it was going to be a tourist trap but boy was I wrong!. The flavors and taste of our food were amazing. Had Beef Tartare to start and was well worth it. We had the Pork Chop and Duck for dinner from the menu. This was a great choice as the flavors, seasoning abd spices were great!. Dessert was the Hot Chocolate Cake and obviously you can't go wrong with that if you love chocolate. Overall a great atmosphere, great service and amazing food. read more

I hadn't dined at Langdon's in years. Until today. Two friends booked a lunch reservation and invited me. I arrived at 11:20 a.m.10 minutes before restaurant opened. Ruby was kind enough to hang my coat and stow my umbrella. Brandi showed me to my booth. Langdon's atmosphere and aesthetics are beyond impressive! The interior decor and ambiance remind me of "power" restaurants near the infamous "K Street" lobbyist row I frequented during my decades in Washington, D.C. where I was a network radio and TV news anchor. My gracious server Charis brought three menus. I was the sole diner perusing the menu until my friends showed up at 11:30. The next time my eyes scanned the restaurant it was packed with diners. Charis brought us water and lemon. She expertly ran through the lunch specials. As is my custom I implored Charis for her menu recommendations, and after she discovered my preferences, I ordered the recommended salmon with rice and cucumber salad. Charis is one of the finest servers I have had the pleasure of encountering. Anywhere. From DC to NYC. Professional, personable, knowledgeable. Her timing was impeccable. The food: In a word, amazing! I failed to get the talented chef's name. My salmon dish was exquisite. My friend's soup looked divine. The wedge salad was mouth-watering. However the pièce de résistance was Crème Brûlée. One of my friends has tried them all in Charleston. Pronounced Langdon's the best by far. She was spot on! When it came time to pay my bill discovered my bank card missing. I'd slid the card into a back pocket of the denim skirt i was wearing the day before. I'd put the skirt into my clothes washer and the card must have slipped out. Langdon's accommodating manager Tim allowed me to write a check! Wow! Y'all this is a terrible story.... My aunt and uncle made a reservation for their 50th wedding anniversary at their favorite restaurant, Landon's. My uncle just had major knee surgery, so in addition to being their anniversary it was also one of his first times out of the house since surgery. It was a very important night so they knew Langdon's was a safe bet for a perfect evening. When they arrived they were told that there was no reservation for them. Even though my aunt had a screen shot of the reservation confirmation on Resy (the only way to make a reservation online). The hostess said "oh yea we've been having trouble with Resy for weeks now" . Literally the least helpful thing she could have said Anyway, after a quite a bit of back and forth they were told that they can make a place at the sister restaurant Opal. So they paid for another Uber to go to yet another restaurant. The food was ok, but do you know how they chose to "make it up" to my aunt and uncle? Two glasses of sparkling wine and a scoop of ice-cream with a candle in it. As if to say "sorry for your luck... here is the bare minimum we can do to commemorate this dinner that is 50 years in the making" I typically wouldn't post about this, but poor service is a HUGE no no in my book. In addition to the negligence in knowing your reservation service wasn't working and not doing anything about it. I worked for several years at an upscale Charleston restaurant, and we would have acknowledged our mistake and made it work. If you screw up, you don't make the customer deal with it, you fix it. When people are spending their money and coming to you to celebrate important life events, huge effort needs to go into making the experience perfect. Good food is only a part of that equation. Celebrating our 20th anniversary we were searching for a really nice (tablecloth) restaurant to have a romantic dinner! We found Langdon's . Pro tip: Make a reservation! We arrived (no reservation) and was greeted by the hostess with the news of "sorry there are no tables available... would you like to sit at the bar"? No, we would like a table for this celebration. She was very accommodating and stated they will have a table in about 2 hours would you like to go on the waiting list, we agreed. Within an hour we were seated to enjoy the offerings of Langdon's. Our waiter (Israel) was great with sharing specials and made us feel welcomed. The food was seasoned well, cooked to temperature, and presented well. This is a special quaint place with really good food! Don't forget your wallet you will need it for this experience! read more

Wow! Compliments to the chef! We have been meaning to go here for years and finally last night was the night and had a spectacular meal! For a Monday night after a holiday it wasn't packed, but had a solid flow of tables while we were there. We all started with a round of cocktails which included Woodford Reserve Olde Fashion, sugar rimmed cosmo, Tito's martini and Coast beer. Appetizers were absolutely delicious, cannot wait time return for the porcini duck meatballs! Others were the goat cheese stuffed gnocchi and beef tartare-which was cubed filet Mignon- wow! Entrees were a homemade pasta Bolognese, a rack of lamb cooked to a perfectly medium rare, seared tuna with an Hawaiian flair, and seared bone-in pork chop! A wonderful Malbec to compliment the entrees! Lastly, and amazingly we had room for dessert-Creme brûlée and the warm chocolate cake with toffee crunchies and coffee ice cream. All in all we were very pleased with the whole evening! Looking forward to our next meal! If you haven't been, go- what a treat! We were told by locals that the best steak house in charleston wasn't actually in charleston. It was in a strip mall in Mt Pleasant. Ok...we'll try it I guess but...yeah right. Honestly, this is the best steak house in charleston. We were shocked. The bourbon foie butter sauce is ridiculous and the cast iron skillet seared steaks are second to none in the city. This is coming from a chef and foodie. Try this place and be shocked by the quality and level of service. Also, the absolute best creme brûlée that we've had in a decade. Very impressed! read more

Best oysters I've had- don't know why but they nailed it. I had some delicious bourbons (only three single shots ;-) I have been back three times with my wife. Made a reservation 11 days in advance for 5 people for Saturday night. The hostess confirmed it. The day of the reservation I called to say it would be for 4 people only. At that time the hostess said that I didn't have a reservation for Saturday evening. It turned out that the hostess made the reservation for Sunday night instead of Saturday. We were offered a table outside on a very humid and uncomfortable night which we would never take. No offer of any accommodation for the next time we come in, just basically too bad for us. I finally made it to Langdon's for the first time today to meet a friend for lunch. So glad I did b/c, it's great. We shared the Lunch on the Fly, and her go-to sandwich, the shaved prosciutto with arugula, cablanca goat gouda, over-easy farm egg and garlic-basil aioli on Italian Bread. The lunch on a fly was duck, kale, grits, and a marmalade. It was awesome. For $12, we really got our monies worth. I can also see why my friend goes with the prosciutto sandwich. It was grilled perfectly, and I found it to offer so many different flavorful bites. The menu doesn't list it, but our's also had their whole grain mustard on it, which was fine by me. The sides items we picked were the salad and soup of the day. The soup was awesome. My friend said their soups are always great! I will definitely be back to Langdon's soon! read more

For starters, the homemade Gnocchi was to die for. Very rich In a cream sauce with sun dried tomatoes, etc. fantastic. Arugula Salad with Carmelized pear was the best salad I have ever had in my life. Salmon dish and shrimp & grits dishes were also outstanding, though I would not recommend peppering the shrimp as it was already heavily spiced. Finally made it for dinner, and we were celebrating a milestone birthday. Our table started with the cheese tray and the Sautéed Shrimp with Crispy Scallion Polenta Cake, Andouille and Spicy Bacon Cream which I could have made a meal of in itself and then have plenty of room for their tasty desserts. Two of our guests had the pork chops, but both ordered them a bit different (one had it done in the style of the lamb on their menu and one person had them as written) The staff and chef were very accommodating. At the table we also had the rib eye and the evening special, a grouper dish. Truly a most delicious meal, everything cooked perfectly and the staff could not have been better! We've been ordering out about once a week to try and support local restaurants. Once again, I need to call attention to Langdon's. Let's face it, when ordering takeout from high end restaurants we usually can't expect the same level of quality as opposed to a dine in experience. Langdon's has managed to maintain a high level of quality with their cook fresh to order system. Food is wonderful and we plan on ordering from them again this weekend. read more

Food was great from start to finish. We went here for my mom's 70th birthday. She had a great time! We had appetizers and main course. I had the pork chop with grits - so good! In terms of the food, everything was on point. When I go to a restaurant like this one, I expect service to be on point. There were a couple of times we were waiting around and wondering where our server was so we could get something that we needed. We even had to ask someone else to let our server know we needed him because he was no where to be found! We were so eager to try Langdons, since everyone seems to love it. We were a party of six on a Sunday evening. ALL of us were deeply disappointed. We found the service to be slow and surly. I know that all restaurants are having staffing problems, but our server was milling around, and generally inattentive. We received our meals, and the food was good, but we expected to be bowled over, and we were not. One in our party flagged down the server to tell him that the lamb was not cooked as requested. The server ARGUED with him! Our meal finished, we ordered dessert. It took 30 minutes for our Crème Brûlée to arrive. We had coffee, and requested a check. Much to our chagrin, there was a 3.5 % credit card use surcharge! It is my opinion that we should have been informed of this. All in all, it was not the fine dining experience that we expected. Well it's been a long time coming but I finally got to try Langdon's here in Mt. Pleasant. Fabulous spot which was super super busy & I was glad I made a reservation on Open Table. If I had not I would not have had a table. Tucked away in the parking lot of Bilo near I'on this place is truly a gem. What I noticed, some people were really dressed up here.. but some were not.. it's an occasion for sure. Every table was full. No wonder, the food was just excellent, the service exceptional & you are not rushed. We brought our own wine (Corkage $25). I will definitely return here & bring friends who love great food. They have a bustling bar scene where you can sit until your table is ready. The staff were very knowledgeable & excited about the food, the wine & the specials on offer that night. read more

This is not fine dining, it is quite frankly mediocre. This is a place you go once a year to celebrate your teenagers birthday and make them feel special because of the prices. My boyfriend and I were very impressed with our food the first time we visited langdons! We arrived on a whim, the wait for the food was pretty long but well worth and expected since it seemed like the place you needed to put a reservation in. The shrimp and grits were amazing and the steak was fantastic. Both of our first courses really impressed us as well! We did notice that the drinks were unbearably strong but figured it was just an off night. After our first time we decided to return for our anniversary. We called to make a reservation and they said we had to pay $50 in order to do so, but they were not very busy and to just come in. So they put our names down, and after arriving we waited over 30 mins for a table. After finally being seated we wait about an hour until we're actually served food. All we had were our overtly strong drinks on empty stomachs. By the time we actually got out first we were already drunk off of boredom and starvation(theatrics). We decided since it was our anniversary we were going to ball out and eat 3 course(hence the empty stomachs) but it was just a ridiculous amount of food. If you're going to do multiple course meals do it right! First courses were fine, but the second courses were disappointing. The tomato soup was bland and tasted like canned soup. By the time we received our main course we were drunk and full from the large portions and scarfing because of how hungry we were waiting for the first course. For sure would not recommend all 3 courses. Unfortunately we decided to return once more the day after valentines day and that disappointing experience will be our last. I'll start off by saying the best part of our dinner was the caviar, which obviously was not made by the chefs. Paired with the typical green onion egg and crème fraiche. The waitress seemed ecstatic that we ordered it, definitely became more chipper with us. We decided to skip the second courses and just get a first and main course so we wouldn't be too stuffed by the end. Our first courses were fine, however our main courses were disasters. My boyfriend asked for medium rare, received rare. First bite into the "steak special" (which was just steak with crab meat on top) had a shell in it. The steak was also drenched in the same sauce as my halibut...which I guess I can understand a lemon sauce because of the grab but I just don't understand why you would put that on the steak. My halibut was rubber. Overcooked rubber. My grits just tasted like dry packaged cheese grits cooked in plain water and were terribly paired with halibut. We chose not to drink and I genuinely believe it saved our wallets because we were convinced we enjoy the place until we were eating the food sober. The most annoying part of all of this is I can understand if it was a kitchen fluke, but we complained about the steak and she only offered to remake make which we were not about to do considering how long it takes for them to bring out any dish. She never returned to ask if my food was okay, and nothing was done about anything. This is not the kind of place you want to go frequently, you'll soon start to realize most of the dishes contain the same sauces, seasonings, and components. And most of the dishes do not make sense. The chefs crudo is the same everytime they just switch the raw fish up. Their "seasonal vegetables" are the same on rotation. The market fish main course is cooked the same and served the same regardless of the fish they choose. Sloppy place, and they get by because most people only visit once in a blue moon because of the prices I'm assuming. My boyfriend and I don't mind paying for good food and have been looking a for a restaurant close by to frequently visit, Langdons will not be it. read more

Let me start by saying I love Langdon's. Langdon's is located in a small strip mall, which I typically don't like very much, but for some reason it doesn't feel like it is. The atmosphere is inviting. They have a great selection of steaks that are always cooked to perfection, but it doesn't stop there. They also have several non-steak options on the menu from seafood and fish to pork, or duck, or even a pasta dish or two. They have the freshest oysters and some tasty appetizer options, not to mention their salad selection. They typically have a special or two as well. On this particular night, a Friday evening in May, we did a walk-in and ate at the bar. They have a nice big bar and the bartenders are usually quite attentive. No exception on this visit, our bartender Shea was great. He had good suggestions both for food and drink. read more

We we to Langdons to celebrate out anniversary the entire experience was phenomenal. Our server ( do no remember her name) was equal amounts of personable, knowledgeable and attentive and she seemed truly excited about making sure we enjoyed our meal. The drinks were perfect, the oysters, we had raw and chefs special were on point. We both had steaks, my wife the NY strip and I had the Kansas dry aged strip, both were as good as any prime steakhouse we've been to. Desert which is usually an issue for me, I mentioned my issue to our server and as simple of a gesture as it was, she bought out something that I was able to have, a very personal touch. Being a transplanted NYer I still order Sambuca ( black) and a double espresso....the espresso came with a lemon peel ( as it should) and the sambuca complete with 3 coffee beans ( also as it should). We have been having dinner at Langdon's for the last 8 years but last night's dinner was our last. Our reservation was for 7:15 and our food finally came to the table at 9:25. Our server was very apologetic but after a while he was too embarrassed to even come to the table. And we were not the only ones waiting, when we looked around, everyone was waiting for their meals. It's very disappointing since it's always been one of our "go to" restaurants. The manager, who is extremely arrogant, was nowhere to be found, not surprisingly. Aside from it taking almost an hour to get our food, the food was cold, tasteless and the burger horribly undercooked.
