The bike was ready the next day! less than a week later my innertube pinched, I brought my bike in 20 minutes before closing; it was fixed right away! I was told a low price over the phone for the inner tube that did not include the cost of labor, when it was time to pay for the innertube and labor I did not have enough, the young person that fixed my tire lowered the price to an amount I could cover!!! Had to review this place after buying a new bike there recently. I had low expectations going in, since I was looking for an affordable road bike in the midst of a national bike shortage. When I first visited Landry's, they didn't have any options for me to try, but the salesperson I talked to was able to order two bikes from two other locations that I could try. He said they usually require a 500$ deposit to hold bikes, but given the circumstances he gave me a discount on the deposit which I appreciated. The bikes were there much earlier than I expected--within a week! And I went back to try them out. Again, the staff was so helpful and patient, answered all of my questions and offered helpful insight. I found a bike that was under my max budget that I love, and they were so diligent about making sure the bike was in perfect condition and that all my questions were answered. What an airy and spacious showroom this is filled with bicycles and all the necessary (and some unnecessary) riding gear. Given the cold temps and snow we've had lately, we're a bit blue missing out on bike riding. Even though we don't need anything as we have bicycles and equipment galore at home, we stopped in here for a look. Bicycles like everything else have gotten very high tech these days and for the very serious rider or racer this place will likely have a lot of eye candy for you to peruse. There are a variety of price points including a super amazing bike coming in at just under $6,000. But there is truly something for most here at various price points including adorable tiny bikes for tots who are ready for their first two-wheelers. They had a bicycle tire pump that was very well designed and like nothing I've seen before. And there is plenty of bike-wear from which to choose if you feel the need to go all "Tour de France"' I love the smell of the rubber tires, the gleam of new frames and the general ambiance of a full-fledged bike shop. They do repairs right on site which is handy but I am a believer in learning how to do some basic repairs on your own. A flat tire can happen at any time and it's best to be prepared to do your own patching so you're not stranded. I appreciated that other than one male staff person, the other 3 we saw were women. I do love a woman who knows her way around bikes and bike repair. Although we didn't buy anything we were grateful for the attentive service we received and knowledgeable answers to our questions. While I love the winter, I long for some cleaner and clearer roads and ever so slightly warmer temperatures so that recreational bicycling is a possibility without as much discomfort. It was nice to visit this lovely well-appointed store and dream about flying down the road under pedal-power. read more

I went in just to get my pedals taken off (they were super super tight) and have flats put on and they started telling me I needed like 150$ worth of work done because my headset was a bit jiggly. I said no and they tried to pressure me but I said I'd do it later. They said that it needed a bunch of fancy thousand dollar equipment to fix it. And I just fixed it myself with a single Allen wrench and a gcn video. Literally took 2 seconds and is so smooth and has literally no issues. Literally why I don't trust bike shops. I had my bike tuned and refreshed at Landry's last week and am delighted not only by the professionalism and the quality of the work but also by polite and welcoming the staff there. After three years of bike shops being overwhelmed, supply chain shortages and covid protocols, I had become accustomed to being treated as though I were a nuisance when visiting bike shops, a pest asking for precious time and resources from an overwhelmed staff without much to offer. Perhaps we are simply back to normal, but I think there is something special about Landry's and wanted to write a review. On the telephone I spoke with Cameron, who then received my bike in a timely fashion and actually listened to my concerns. Wow. When I purchased my new bicycle here, I wish they'd told me I need to keep the tires at 75 PSI because I'm a big 6'0" guy. This caused the rear tire to develop sidewall problems due to not enough inflation. Here's where the story takes an odd twist. I was closer to Bikeway Source so I took the bike to them for the tire repair. They recommended a new tire and tube, as well as keeping the tire at 75 PSI. A month later, after about 100 miles, the tire showed a big bulge on the tread, then went flat. This time I took the bike to Landry for the repair. The mechanic thought the problem due to the fact that Bikeway didn't align the wheel before installing the tire and tube. Landry recommended replacing the tube and tire; they would align the wheel for free. I asked to be given the old tire and tube that Bikeway had installed so I could bring them back to Bikeway to decide if they thought there had been a manufacturing defect. When I picked up the bike at Landry, the receipt said I was being charged for an alignment and a new tire. I was given the old tire, but not the old tube. They said there was a misunderstanding about the old parts. The old tire looked fine and I asked them if I could use it in the future. The Landry mechanic said yes. I wish I'd asked why the receipt made no mention of the bike tube. It rained the next two days and the Landry's tire went flat, even though the bike had been sitting unused in my living room. I took the bike back to Landry's. Again I asked Landry for the old tube so I could take it back to Bikeway source (if it really was a Bikeway tube). They agreed and said they'd text me when the repair was complete. I never received a text, so I drove back to Landry's to arrive 5 minutes before closing. My bike was still on a rack, but the repair was completed. Only later I realized they never sent a text. The bike would have sat in the shop if I hadn't been pro-active to pick it up. When I picked up the bike, there was no charge for the repair. I asked for the old tube. Here's the conversation. "Where's the old tube?" I said. "Oh you won't need it. There was a small hole, maybe a manufacturing defect." "Yes but I wanted to show the tube to Bikeway." (Again assuming the tube came from Bikeway. Likely Bikeway and Landry were likely selling different tubes.) "I didn't want to create a problem for the other bike shop," the Landry mechanic said. It's hard to admit it to yourself when someone is lieing to your face. Or maybe it's possible that Bikeway installed a defective tube, and then Landry replaced it with another defective tube, neither aware or caring about the effect on their reputations. They just ordinarily use defective tubes and only today in July 2021 is the first coming to light. "It isn't for you to decide," I said, thinking that the other bikeshop could look at the tire and make their own decision. I think they would be interested to know if they are installing defective parts. "Look your bike is repaired." I took the bike. No point in getting into an argument with someone who isn't motivated to understand the issue. Looks to me like Landry has cut labor costs by hiring high school students. Now I wonder if the mechanics at Landry are not paid by the hour, but rather get a fixed fraction of the labor costs. This would explain why the first Landry receipt did not show the purchase of any parts at all, but rather had line items: "Install tire" and "True tube". It's odd though because Landry's did install a new tire and gave me the old tire. My wife wonders if Landry patched and re-used the old tube that Bikeway installed- maybe even on both repairs. She recommends in the future that I mark both the tire and the nozzle of the tube with an Magic Marker before giving the bike for tire or tube repairs. For all I know I'm still using the old tube. Many bicyclists know that it is kind of a luxury to take a bike to a shop just to repair a tire. I thought the convenience was worth it to me. At this stage, after spending $70 at Bikeway and $69 at Landry, plus all the travel time driving the bicycle around, I see their services are worse than nothing, as each time I am left worse off then when I started. I am now planning to buy a bike stand so I can repair the bike at home. It's ridiculous to pay someone who is supposed to know what they are doing when they really don't. read more

My reviews are usually far more detailed, but Ill save us both some time and say that unless you are getting some really expensive custom made bike here, your customer service experience will not be stellar. I stopped by Landry's due to a recommendation from my gym, that the selection and price points for their indoor cycling shoes had greater range than other shops in the Boston area. I've been spinning a few times a week for 6 months now, and after determining that I was sticking with the schedule, I decided to reward myself by buying shoes that no one else's feet sweat in. However, these are limited-use items, so I was not looking to pay $120+ for something I'm only going to wear a few times a week in a dark basement. So it's also fine that the pair I found are hideous (a soon-to-be-discontinued model by Specialist that combines the look of a pair of discount sneakers with basically none of the functionality). But I'm getting ahead of myself. I spoke with Pete, and was upfront with him about my price range and how flexible I could be with it so that he could invest his time accordingly. Pete was great. He was courteous, patient, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic, and honest about the likelihood of finding something within my price point without being rude or condescending, as can sometimes happen in retail. He also went into detail about the different types of shoes I might need, and asked questions about things like who would manage my clip install to make sure that I would be taken care of (and not attempt to do something unsafe like install them myself) when I left the store. I also asked him about some bikes, and he gave me tons of great information there, too. In the end, Pete ran a quick search on the Specialist website and discovered these hideous things on clearance. So he price-matched them, and I got $100 shoes for $38. To be clear: Landry's has tons of shoes that look great and are perfectly lovely. These were just the ones Specialist had on final clearance, and for that price, I wasn't quarreling. Thank you to Pete at Landry's, whose expertise and professionalism transformed a regular sales transaction into an awesome experience. I will be returning to Landry's and asking for Pete for pretty much everything. Someday, depending on how this cycling thing goes, I may even reward myself with nicer shoes at full price, and on that day, I will ask for none but Pete. read more

I brought my Specialized eBike for a tuneup to Landry's Braintree store two weeks ago for a tune-up. I received a call by Landry's on 3/14/22 that my bike tuneup was complete and ready for pick-up. I paid $351 for the tuneup. Since I then I have ridden the three times. The ebike is in worse shape now then before I brought it to landry's. The disk brakes squeal constantly, the bike was a mess after the tune-up, the drive train  was a mess, the chain was not cleaned as was the frame. The updating on the bikes computer was not done properly. There was a red line on the assist control that came went. I brought the bike back to Braintree yesterday and spoke with Brandon. Brandon promised me all problems would fix by Geoff, head machanic. I am not happy with the service I have received by Landry's staff. read more

Later got email saying item was not in local store and would take week to get. Called and cancelled order. Was told no problem. Charge would be credited. Charge not credited. Came back to get readjusted and they left me waiting for an hour just for a saddle change. Waited in line to ask about the progress. They attended to the customer after me despite the fact I had been waiting long before. Never got the print out of my bike specs after I spent $200 to get fitted on my bike. I was torn on how many stars to give, given I visited a few other bike shops in the area and wasn't happy with any of them, however Landry's came out on top. I was in the market for an entry level road bike. I have some experience with road bikes, but was open to see what was on the market now and newer brands. Landry's coincidentally suggested the bike I had in mind. I wasn't really fitted to the bike, and the two bikes they had in the store were scratched, so they ordered me a new one. This turn around process was quick but I was hoping for more of a customized fit. The pros: - very good prices (compared to online stores and other local stores) - decent selection - quick turn around time for building the bike - Pat is very kind and knows his stuff - They were exceptional in helping us get a bike rack for our car The cons: - I'd expect more courtesy when making a purchase of over $1000, the items they sell are not cheap and customer service should support that. - If you aren't interested in answering customer questions, then don't be in customer service. Some of the folks here didn't seem to be interested in talking to me since I wasn't training for the Tour de France - We ordered some accessories to be shipped to the store since they were out of stock. We were never made aware of when they came in. We decided to cancel the order- it is quicker to order directly from the vendor and not have to go back to the shop. All in all, good prices and selection but a bit of an attitude in this store. However, compared to other stores, Landry's is better because of prices and selection. If you choose to buy here, do some research beforehand and work with someone there you trust and like. Advice to management could be to get some more people on the floor to better accommodate waiting customers and pending orders. read more

Landry's is a fine bike shop that does good work if you're in a pinch. I got a brake replacement there and they made a small mistake in the installation, but overall the experience was alright. However, Community Bike Supply on Tremont does better work for literally half the price. If you have the time and ability, I strongly recommend going there instead. read more

This place was recommended to me for cycling shoes by one of the spin instructors at SASY, so I headed here last week when i was ready to make the investment. I came in on a Wednesday around 5 pm, was greeted promptly by one of the sales associates who then proceeded to pick out a pair of cycling shoes for me. They fit great so he went ahead and put in the cleats for me and i was good to go. the whole process took about 10 mins from me walking in the door. They are very nice and very accommodating with a good knowledge base. That being said bring your bike for repair someplace else. They know what they are doing but the charges are always over the top. No matter what you need they will explain with authority how you really need a lot more and that's what they charge. If you don't care what you pay you will get good work just at top dollar. read more

Knowledgeable. Helpful. Thorough. Efficient. As a new(ish) gravel bike owner, I can't say enough about this shop and it's staff. I brought my bike in that was in need of a repair. The shop is beautiful and clean and the staff was super friendly. Cameron immediately diagnosed the situation and let me know what I'd need. Not only did he talk me through the repair and parts list but he notified me that they (or their suppliers) did not have one piece needed. Instead of stopping here, he pulled up two third-party suppliers and immediately e-mailed me the part, so that I could order it and have it shipped directly to him. I really appreciated this level service and thoughtfulness. Despite having one part on back order and needing the part I had shipped (noted above), they completed the repair quickly and efficiently and communicated this across to me immediately. I've been to bike shops in the past and have not had near this level of responsiveness and helpfulness. This is a wonderful bike store. I stumbled upon it when I was out on an adventure after I first moved to Brookline. They have a wonderful selection of bikes and will order whatever you need. My boyfriend is 6'9 and needed a special bike. The bike came in quickly and they offered to get it all set up for him that day. Tons of helmets (with knowledgeable staff to help you pick one), TONS of great biking gear (I HIGHLY recommend the Castelli Bib shorts), a whole assortment of other accessories too. While my bill was $235, I was offered to be charged $280 for incidentals found during the tune-up process. I declined to pay extra. A few days later, I got a call asking if I would agree to an additional charge of $90 to replace a front wheel. I was in the middle of something at work and wanted my bike back right away, so I relented; but something felt off. I recognize this as a typical "up sale" technique. The day I picked up my bike, I asked for the wheel that was replaced back but it "couldn't be located". ************************************************************ UPDATE: Changing my review based on my follow-up conversation and resolution of concerns with Mark: In following up with me about my review above, Mark showed great patience, restraint and professionalism. He allowed me to say my peace, responded to my point of view and the issues I raised. He also was honest in admitting where there was an opportunity for improvement and was committed to making amends on behalf of Landry's. I think we reached a fair agreement where both parties walked away feeling like we were both treated fairly. I would give 5-stars based on my conversation with Mark, but the fact remains that the replacement wheel was not present.
