Cambridge Bicycle is hands down the best bike shop in the Camberville area! The staff is always super knowledgeable, polite, and willing to help with any bicycle needs. Their stock of bikes currently turns really fast as bike supplies across the country are selling faster than stock can come in from overseas, this is a problem all bike shops are having right now with manufacturing delays due to the pandemic. Luckily, Cambridge bike also does custom builds as well as rebuilds on old bikes so there is definitely a way to get you riding even if a new bike isn't currently in stock. They carry some great brands of bikes and accessories, service department is top notch, and they value positive customer experiences and relationships over just making a sale like some bike shops seem to be around here. I 100% recommend Cambridge Bicycle to anyone in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, etc! They are the epitome of a GREAT and honest neighborhood bike shop. read more

Do not trust this bike shop with your bike - especially with nice bikes. I took my bike in for cassette cleaning and to install new disc breaks. Upon picking up my bike a piece of my bike (an axle key, branded with my bike brand) was missing. Additionally, they didn't fully clean the cassette and chain and I spent another hour of my time finishing their terrible work. The shop not only had incredibly rude customer service (including hanging up on me) and did not propose a resolution. Do not take your business here. They forgot to tell me that it was going to be more costly. Their solution? None, just that they were sorry. They really didn't care about making things right after pulling that sneaky move. Not too good. I bought a bicycle tire inner tube. When I got it home and took it out it appeared to be way too big. I inflated it a little and one small part of it blew up like a ballon while the rest did not inflate. I didn't think much of it, but returned it and told them I thought it was the wrong size. The gentleman looked at the box and then my rim and said 'it's the right size. But you need to put it inside the tire before inflating it. Then inflate to just 10 lbs, then put the whole thing on the rim and inflate it the rest of the way.' I bought a new rim liner just in case. He didn't look at the actual tube. I went home, did as instructed and the thing inflated as before then blew up. I returned and they told me I had installed it wrong. They obviously sold me a defective tube. The person put my bike on a stand, tightened one thing, put a new pin in the valve, pumped that tire and said it's in great shape you don't need a tuneup. Took 15 mins and didn't charge a dime! I asked further about a car rack and bike bags and felt Zero sales push but got great info. Earned my loyalty and this 5 star review! read more

Avoid these irresponsible and untimely employees. My primary issue with the staff during this call was their severe rudeness and disdain. I would have been fine with the procedure if they had been friendlier and, to be honest, less brusque. I felt like a woman being talked down to and not taken seriously. They advised me to replace a component that wasn't necessary, but I went ahead and made the adjustment. Many damages resulted from the replacement item not fitting as promised. I attempted to seek a resolution, but they refused to do anything more than state that they have never worked with e-bikes, despite the mechanic's claim to have over 15 years of experience on Bikes. Now my bike is useless sitting and I have to take a T for my School. So cruel! read more

I went in for a standard tube replacement. One of the employees helped me get the right size based on a picture of markings on my tire. I got home and started replacing the tube. Immediately, one side is getting really big, and a quick look at the tube shows it's way too big for the tire. (See the attached picture.) Everything so far is pretty standard. It looked like a manufacturing error. Indeed, when I tried an identical tube, it blew up uniformly and fit snuggly into the tire. Where I get frustrated is I took the tube back, explained the whole thing, showed them the pictures. I wasn't accusing anyone, but I got defensive and condescending answers: "That's the way it's supposed to look." I don't work in a bike shop, which is why I had an employee interpret the tire markings related to size originally, but I've changed tires before, and I have a basic idea of how it should look. So I get home again and blow up this tube that apparently "isn't too big and looks normal." Again, one side gets big, then really big. The picture here shows it, but with more air the fat side became comically large, and the size disparity got worse. I was careful to blow it up inside the tire (not pictured). While one side ballooned, the opposite side never got much wider across than a quarter. It popped. Loudly, obviously. Again, manufacturing error. What irks me is that I took the time to take pictures and visit the store twice for professional support: Does this look right to you? I was met with misinformation and defensiveness on the second visit when they could have just replaced a clearly defective $10 tube. I went back and forth to this bike shop over half a week during which my main mode of transportation was sidelined. read more

The woman on the phone was condescending, stating that they have many pedals in stock and I should just come in. I again clarified that I am looking for a 3-hole road bike pedal, and that I would like to stop by to buy it today, and I wanted to make sure they had it in stock before I came to the store. She again said "yeah we have lots in stock". I biked in the cold rain from Boston in to the store, where they told me they do not have any in stock, and referred me to other places more suited for "entry cycling". I had heard from others that Cambridge Bicycle could be condescending, but gave it a try, and was unfortunately disappointed. I was told by someone in the shop that they could build up a bike for me that I had requested and that they would call me as soon as it was built. 4 days later, I didn't receive a call, so I call myself to inquire and they told me the bike had SOLD and no one had even called me to tell me they finished building the bike?! Rude staff and unkind staff. This was the worst I've been treated customer service-wise in a long time. Instead of discussing my problem with me, staff was accusatory, short, demeaning, and borderline cruel. I've read in other reviews that normally the staff is friendly, but this was NOT my experience at all. I have no problems with what is being sold other it is expensive compared to other bike shops I've been to. The product that I did buy was damaged when I got home, which is one reason why I tried to return it. Although there was nothing stated on the receipt or hanging in the store about this particular item being final sale, they refused to refund the item and offered me in-store credit instead. I even offered that I would take a 50% or 30% refund and they refused. My main issue is how incredibly rude and condescending the staff was during this interaction. Every experience I have had here has been great. When I stopped by a couple times for minor things (my brakes are loose, my tire is wobbly) I got help quickly and a little extra knowledge and teaching about what's wrong and what to look for. I had a tune up done and it was very thorough and done on-schedule. Needless to say, walking into a bike shop can be intimidating for a gal like me. But the young woman at Cambridge Bikes who helped me was great. She didn't push me to buy something I don't need. She offered to back off and let me browse if I wanted but was willing to answer any questions I had. No one ignored me because I didn't look the part (which has happened in other bike shops), but no one gave me a hard sell. I got a great bike at a good price. And I get a year of tune-ups with my purchase, which is pretty sweet. When I picked up my bike the next day, I also brought along my boyfriend's wheel, which was destroyed by a car door. The staffer didn't have the right part on hand, but he sent us to their sister store, Boston Bicycles. They held a wheel for him and gave him a great deal on a really nice replacement. I could have died because of their incompetence! Bought new tires for my bike so I brought it in to have them installed. I go off on a bike ride and about 15 minutes of riding later, on a busy road, the tire on my front wheel comes off. It hops off the rim and I almost crash into traffic. Go to Ace Wheelworks. I went there after this and they installed the tire correctly with no problems. Yes, Cambridge Bicycle is more friendly, but I'd rather deal with someone surly who does a good job than with someone who does a terrible job. read more

Nice people and very helpful! I brought my bike in to fix my derailleurs and expected to have to drop it off and pick it up days later. They were able to fix it on the spot and it was done in probably 15 minutes. I also thought I needed new brake pads but they let me know that I didn't. If you ride bikes, you should have a relationship with a bike shop and the only way to do this is visit a few. As soon as I arrived in Cambridge, I discovered Cambridge Bicycle and haven't been to another shop. I have a few Surly's that I wanted "winter proofing", meaning strip the bikes down to nothing, add framesaver to the frame, reassemble, and ride. Service was performed quickly and when I had shifting issues after a day on the trails, they serviced my bike in minutes and had me on my way. The shop is full of cyclists, bike packers, and all around great people. Shop rides on Sunday. Come for the bikes, stay for the community. read more

The folks there are great, they do first class work and their prices are good. I am a daily bike commuter and I do most of my own work, I've been in and around lots of shops and I know that running a shop, particularly with the amount of walk-ins that Cambridge gets is not easy. Find another bike shop. Today I went in because I had a flat tire. I asked if they could check my tire to see if I needed to replace the tire (not just the inner tube). Instead, they took my whole bike, replaced the tube without telling me and charged me a $20 service fee (which I never would have accepted if they had told me a price estimate since I can fix my tires myself). When I went to check out, they were having system outage problems, so I waited in the store for another 15 minutes. They finally called me to the front and had me pay using square, but couldn't provide a receipt. I left the store and my axle was broken and my ball bearings fell out of my wheel hub. I don't know if my axle was already broken or if they broke it while "repairing" my bike tire (although I had no problems before I went into the store). Even if they weren't the ones who broke it, I was profoundly annoyed that no one noticed it or said anything to me about it. The store managers were friendly and polite, but no politeness can make up for the incompetence of the staff working in the repair shop. Thoroughly disappointed and will never come back to Cambridge bicycle. read more

I went there to get my brakes changed and adjusted and I thought the cables needed to be changed too. They were honest, said the cables didn't have to be changed, gave me a quote right away and fixed my bike in 20 minutes. This place has had my husbands bike for about a month. Every time he calls to check on it they inform him that they've ordered yet another part and that it will arrive in a week. He just called and yet again was told they had to order a different part that is expected to arrive in a week. I think that the key to loving Cambridge Bicycle (and I do) is understanding it's very "Cambridge" style. They have everything you need, and can do anything that needs to be done, and will, with a smile at that. They are knowledgeable, and jolly and they are conveniently located in Central Sq. What might be misinterpreted as less than great customer service is a sort of easy-going style, and a little bit of chaotic lack of complete organization- but, that is what Cambridge businesses were always like before they all became subsidiaries of the Gap. That's my two cents, now, here's my most recent reason to love them: My five year old has outgrown his little two-wheeler, and his little sister is getting ready to graduate from her tricycle. So I trot over with the little guy to check out kids bikes, and they have a lovely and very well made Schwinn that we love. I tell them we want it, but we need to come back and it will need training wheels. Then I disappear for over a week. When I finally do get back it is there, ready and waiting for us. They spend ages setting it up for him, getting everything just right, and treat him like royalty, and when my daughter, another couple of weeks later, pedals over on her brother's hand-me-down, they do the same for her- no charge. They are smart, of course. These are little future bike enthusiasts they are encouraging, and my kids love everything about the biking experience, largely because of them. Cambridge Bicycles carries lots of Single Speed/Fixie stuff and they also sponsor a track racing team. Cambridge Bicycles is one of those bike stores that people hang out in. I bought my first adult bike here a few years ago and have since become a cyclist. Cambridge Bike staff are exceptionally knowledgeable about all their products and honest about consumer information. I have bought a bike and cycling shoes here and they're by far some of my favorite purchases (owning 3 bikes myself). The space is also fun to explore and you can easily get a bike tune up for around $10 or less which is a deal. The mechanics also know what they're doing (big plus.). The people at Cambridge Bicycle were very patient with my several indecisive visits and helpful with my questions about fixed-gear riding, etc (with different guys there weighing in with their various experiences and advice). What I appreciated most about Cambridge Bicycle was how they were a bunch of bike enthusiasts who gave me great advice that was in my best interest, not theirs. I came to them originally because they had Marin Bicycles. While the bike I was looking at was great, I ended up finding another while there that I liked even more. Taylor and Rob were patient with me, and encouraged me to try a handful until I found the one I liked. Both Taylor and Rob spent a bunch of time with me answering questions, but without pressure. I needed to think overnight, and called back the next day. Spencer helped me place the order over the phone, and was very helpful. The bike mechanics, including Arlo who I worked with, came out to the floor to give advice and help answer questions. They ended up having the perfect bike in stock, and giving me great advice on a few accessories I had been looking for. Lastly, I was giving my bike to a friend who needed it, but it needed some work done. They offered great advice on what to do to that bike to get it in riding shape again for my fiend. 5 stars. This is one of my favorite bike shops in town. It has personality, nerdy/ sexy bike messenger type sales dudes, and a helpful--but not too salesy-- attitude. I like that. And apparently they give bike messenger discounts too, which is cool. The prices are pretty standard, but they sell some extra nifty stuff here. In addition to a huge selection of brand new bikes (fixies, hybrids, cruisers, mountain bikes, you know, the usual, plus some sweeeet track bikes), they also sell used/ vintage bikes. Come check those out if you're on a budget, and you'll probably fall in all kinds of love... More importantly (since I'm more than set with the 4 bikes I already own), I come here for BIKE BLING. With their huge selection of super nice messenger bags (Bailey!), Aerospokes (in every freakin color imaginable), sexy chrome rims, vintage wool cycling jersies, and extensive supply of all the other little things you can get sucked into buying (bells and horns, racks, baskets, colorful handlebar tape, stylish helmets, blinky lights, blah blah blah bling bling), I've been known to stop in to browse, and leave with some random accessory that I love... they even sell ipod players that strap to your bike!! Just the other day I received an understanding message from the manager here, promising excellent service upon my next visit and a refund for the shoddy work done in the past. Though I can't take him up on it as I'm now on the other side of the county, I applaud and appreciate the savvy folks who get that the site can be used as a platform to gain feedback on improving the business and customer experience, so thanks, Cambridge Bicycle! I walked up with a flat tire and saw people milling around inside. It turned out they were closed, but I really needed help because I'd never changed a tube by myself before. I told the attendant that I had all the tools I needed since they had air out front, I just wanted advice because, again, I had never done it before. Instead of giving me even a modicum of assistance, he offered to take my bike overnight and fix it in the morning, and when I declined he shut the door without so much as wishing me luck or making sure I was going to be OK. I mean, for all he knew I could have been stranded without a phone. Predictably, I botched the repair and the next day the freshly changed tube had fallen victim to the same piece of metal that I'd missed the first time, and I didn't have a replacement tube, which he could have offered to sell me the day before. Clearly Cambridge Bicycle is more concerned with leaving on time then offering anything resembling good customer service. read more

Went looking for a bike for my wife. Let me first say that the people there seemed really friendly and would take the time to explain things to you if you don't know what you're doing. It seems like they take advantage of you if you don't though--I saw a woman in there being sold on a $120 service bill for replacing a tire, tube, chain and a few cheap parts on an old beater bike after she explained that she was "not mechanically inclined". The bike itself was probably not even worth that much! Back to my bike-buying experience: Unfortunately, Cambridge Bicycle does not have a wide selection of bikes, and while we did find one that would have been OK, it was priced higher than other bike shops. I visited in mid-May, and when I asked about discounts on their (overpriced) bikes, the worker explained that they try very hard not to put anything on sale during the "high season" because "there's people out there who are willing to pay the price we charge." Really! Good to know! I ended up going to Belmont Wheelworks and after seeing many of the same models there for much lower prices, bought a bike from them instead. Cambridge Bicycle is blocks from my apartment - so I go there fairly often. The employees there will treat you like dirt until they decide you're cool enough for them. If you ride a track bike you'll probably be OK. OK so if you can get past the snootiness... Prices are high compared to what you can get online. Probably about the same as the other local bike stores. Selection is limited at best. I needed some shoes and they didn't have anything in my size (11.5 - a very normal size). This was after I had specifically asked them the day before if they had a good selection in my size. The only thing I get there now is emergency stuff - like when I was rebulding my crankset and somehow managed to lose a screw. What can I say that is nice about them? They have some sweet track bikes. Not that they know all that much about track racing - they all seem to be more about the whole hipster/fixie scene. Support businesses that don't treat you terribly. Go to REI or Belmont Wheelworks. read more

I feel like If you are NOT 1) Hipster 2) Fixed Gear biker or if you do NOT have 1) Large 80s glasses 2) Pair of neon sneakers 3) Lumberjack Hoodie You might feel really outsider in this store. That's how I feel every time when I go here. I like some of people who works here, believe me, there are nice people in the store too, but their customer service is really not that great. It seems like people who works there are too busy talking to hipster friends not actual customers. My husband ordered a Velocity wheel through Cambridge Bike, paid for it and waited for like 3 months. After Velocity discontinued the type of wheel he wanted, he ordered another one and still did not arrive. He even contacted to Velocity and the wheel he ordered was in stock! Cambridge Bike completely forgot about his wheel for additional 2 months. Finally, we gave up and asked for the refund in cash, they are not too happy about it. He waited for a wheel for 5 months!!!!! Of course we want our money back in cash, not store credit. We did not get an item we paid for. I love riding bikes and I like fixing own bikes. I like to come here to see cool fixed gear parts, but every time I come here, I am very disappointed about their lack of service. I wish they are nicer to customer. Really. Too bad because they have interesting bike parts sometimes...... because of luck of their service and attitude, I rather go to other stores where people are more nice and happy to answer my questions. Note: General Manager of Cambridge Bicycle kindly send me a message and apologized about the incident after he read my review in here. I thought that was nice gesture of them. Note 2: I will take it back of what general manager send me a nice note. I wrote this review on this January and look at all other reviews after me! Worst bike experience ever, went in with my brand new bike last week to get it tuned and said that it was brand new from a box and I had semi assembled, the staff said that I shouldn't have bothered as it was the same price for a full build as a tune. This really helpful guy saw that there was a ding in the dérailleur and hanger and said that I should complain under warranty and to bring it in and he would build the next week, and handed me a receipt for 59 dollars and offered to cut my seat down there and then gratis, which we turned down as we worried we would have to return the bike. Cue 1 week later, I am charged an extra 20 dollars by a different guy for fitting the new derailleur and he had forgotten to cut the seat post, which I had to remind him to do. Bear in mind a full build is 60 dollars, from a box, but cost me 80 for a 95% assembled bike. The new guy basically called me a liar when I said that the derailler didn't come fitted when I got the bike, hence why this is usually not included in the "$60 build", but the last 3 bikes I built have all been separate. read more
