I highly recommend Lama's Driving School. The instructors make learning to drive feel simple instead of stressful. They take their time explaining things and make sure you're comfortable at every step. I appreciated how supportive the whole team was throughout the lessons. Thanks to everyone there for making it a smooth experience. read more

I would never use this place. I paid for two hours worth of lessons. Got a total of 35 minutes in lessons and then on the way to the road test the instructor played on his phone the entire time while driving doing 70+ miles per hour I would never use these people or recommend them. read more

this isn't about driving lessons. The guy that does the driving 5 hour course is horrible. It took him an hour to start. he kept pausing every 5 minutes to argue with people. He doesn't speak the best English. His WiFi was horrible as well, the videos kept freezing. this guy is rude and obnoxious read more

Lama Driving School teacher told a student driver to back out of blocked street without looking to see if pedestrians and cars were behind the car. I Honked the horn but the car kept coming so I had no choice but to back down the block or be hit. As I was waiting to safely back into the avenue, again the Lama car almost backed into me stopping a foot away from my car with my hand on the horn. When I got out of the car to speak with the instructor about the danger of backing out of the street especially without looking for pedestrians and vehicles her response was "I waved my hand out the window". This woman shouldn't be permitted to drive and certainly not permitted to teach people how to safely drive! read more

This driving school is awesome!! My driving instructors were very informative and helpful. They have really helped me through the process of finally getting my license. I highly recommend to anyone. I passed on my first try!! Thank you so much, Mr. Anas and Mr. Majid for everything!!! read more

Llama driving school was great, After not being behind the wheel of a car in 15+ years, I quickly had to get my drivers license in order to keep my position at work. Llama driving school was organized and accommodated my scheduling needs with lessons including payment plans, they even allowed me to take 2 back to back lessons the day before my road-test which really helped. The instructors were very patient and friendly, they really made me feel confident in passing the road-test (which I did on the first try!) The owners of the school are such sweet individuals along with the office receptionists that really are the backbone of the business with scheduling and organization. Go to this school, buy a package (they are very affordable compared to other driving schools) and stay focused, you will pass your road-test on the first try! The areas in Brooklyn and Staten Island where you take your road-test are perfect areas to do so. I will be taking highway driving lessons very soon! read more

I'm very scared of driving and Lama Driving school was amazing with the entire process to getting a drivers license. Their office is very organized, and super accommodating to extenuating circumstances. They were able to expedite road test and even have a package to take a class before the test. Lama and her husband are so helpful, and I couldn't recommend them more! read more

I had a wonderful experience learning and practicing my driving skills. Sara is an excellent coach! She is very professional and also personable. We tried all roads including driving on highways. I definitely feel more confident and appreciate all the feedback. To all the learners - Good luck and happy driving! read more

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews here because I had a wholly positive experience with Lama Driving school. I'm not a good driver even on the local streets, and I don't get much practice on a regular basis. However, I did want to learn how to drive on the highway with the goal of eventually being able to drive myself to work. I like how you're not required to buy a package of lessons. Each highway lesson is $45 for 45 minutes. My lesson was scheduled 1.5 weeks in advance due to lack of openings. The night before, I received a text reminder. Upon arriving, I was introduced to my teacher within minutes despite the busy state of the office. My teacher Huda was very professional, yet friendly and calming. She gave me a brief overview and tips as I was driving to the highway and was extremely attentive the whole duration of the lesson. I was petrified but reassured by the fact that she was watching closely the whole time. Each time she wanted me to do something new, she always gave me advance notice and time to prepare myself mentally. I told her about my fear of not seeing a car in my blind spot before merging and she taught me to lean forward to eliminate the blind spot. Though I tried looking back over my shoulder and the car swerved slightly at one point, she was extremely calm and merely adjusted my wheel. Throughout that first lesson, she was very reassuring and offered constructive feedback. She also had me enter the highway on two different routes, and practice exiting as well. I went back for a second lesson today, and felt a lot calmer and more comfortable. The lesson went smoothly, and I feel confident enough to try driving with a friend or family member next time. I highly recommend Huda to anyone who lacks confidence. She is calm yet helpful and a great teacher. read more

I want to thank Lama and Maged (sorry, if I spelled your name wrong) for believing in me and having the utmost patience! I have never driven before, but with their help, I was able to pass the test! Lama, who is super helpful, will make sure you pass the test by giving you extra lessons and she will work with your schedule. There was one week, I took several classes early in the a.m. before I went to work! Don't ever feel rushed to take the road test! Take enough lessons until you feel comfortable behind the wheel! read more

I've been a licensed driver for 30+years but seldom drive (don't like to). Took 1 highway lesson and one street refresher. Great patient instructors. Both said I didn't need the lessons but it built my confidence. My child (a new driver) took lessons with them and passed on the first try. Highly recommend read more

I came to Lama not knowing how to drive. I purchased the 7 lesson package that included the driving exam. They took care of everything for me and I just had to show up. After just 7 lessons, I can proudly say that I passed my road test today! Instructors are very knowledgeable and Lama the owner is very personable. She took me to the road test site herself and coached me beforehand! I highly recommend taking driving lessons with Lama's Driving School! read more

I want to start this review by thanking all the staff, from the instructors to the front desk people for their time and dedication. Hands down to the best driving school! Super happy about passing my road test. Although I did not get it in the first try (I blame myself; was super nervous), I appreciate all the patience, dedication and motivation from the instructors. I did not take lessons with only one instructor and let me tell you that each and every single one was as patient and helpful. Mind you, I had no previous experience driving prior signing up for driving lessons at this school and still made it through. I also did not take any lessons outside from the school. Yes, that's how good they are! All the instructors and front desk staff are calm, helpful and motivating. They will always be willing to help you. Great personality too! Never had a bad time during the lessons and they will make sure you are confident and remain calm on the day of the road test. I highly recommend this school to everyone! You will not regret it! read more

Extremely unprofessional people. No schedules, no responsibility. Low quality of teaching. Do not recommend

WARNING: This is a lengthy review First, let me say that everyone here is so kind and helpful!! The owner of the school herself, Lama, was very very sweet and found me a rush appointment for the road test without the added $60 fee because at the time I could not afford it. Since I was traveling I wouldn't be able to take my test until after September and because she didn't want me to lose all I'd learned just bc I couldn't afford it in the moment she was able to find that appointment for me. I passed the road test on my first try and I'm so grateful for her kindness! Moving on to the actual money I spent, I found lama while comparing the top two driving schools in my area which were Lama and Drive Rite Academy. Although both had great reviews, Lama was significantly cheaper and I was able to take the 5 class package that includes the scheduling for the road test and the car as well. There is a separate fee for the 5-hr driving class (note: this must be paid in cash. Everything else can be cash or card). Sam taught my five hour class and she was sweet, funny and informative, always trying to keep the class engaged. She corrects you on everything but does it in a way where you won't feel like she's belittling you. She really cares! I took driving classes with Mo, DiDi and Huda. Although you can pick your instructor, they tend to switch it up so you can get used to different styles of instruction. Huda was my favorite. She was super sweet and helpful! She eased my worries a lot and helped build up my confidence behind the wheel! Everyone is kind and clear in their instructions though, so no matter who you get, you'll definitely learn a lot. I started day one barely having ever been behind the wheel and finished my first lesson parallel parking! The next time I went, it was a K-turn! These ppl focus a lot on driving by the book, basically teaching you how to pass the road test. So if you've spent a lot of time driving it may be a bit difficult to smooth out your habits, but it's possible with these folks! And for first time drivers, there's no place else I'd recommend to go! Your family can't teach you like Lana can lol Thank you so much for everything! I'll definitely go back for a highway class! read more

I believe everyone here is trying their best, but with 8 lessons with them, I can confidently say they are not a driving school I'll ever recommend for many reasons. 1) Their biggest failure as a company: their language barriers. Why would you hire driving instructors that barely speak English? Abdullah was very nice, and I honestly believe everyone here is a good and nice person, but language barriers are not something that should exist when teaching someone how to drive. Secondly, they're constantly talking in a foreign language in their office. If this was a Latinx office, workers would be demonized for speaking in Spanish. 2) Their teaching methods consist of yelling at you regarding mistakes but not thoroughly explaining why or how to improve them. Abdullah should not be working here. 3) Their cars are not aligned well and are inconsistent. 4) Trying to reach them to book an appointment or ask questions is insanely difficult. Go to another school. read more

I came here to pay for Package 2 (5 lessons, car for road test, and road test). After my fifth lesson, I was suggested 1-2 more lessons and was offered to upgrade my package to 3, helping me save money. Unlike other driving schools, this was really worth the money! All lessons worked around my schedule and I had no problem with the times. There is also a range of teachers with different methods of teaching, which allowed me to drive better. One of the teachers, Moe, was excellent in keeping me calm but entertained. He had a lot of trust in my driving and was understanding when I made mistakes. He helped my improve dramatically. Lama drove me to the testing site and before the actual testing began, she helped me and two other student drivers warm up for the road test, giving us extra guidance and reminding us what to look out for. This was extremely useful because the three of us were very nervous and insecure about our skills. Like Moe, she was encouraging and joyful. She will prepare you even more and heighten your skills. Overall, the time I spent here was something that I will never regret! read more

Lama Driving School is a wonderful, friendly, welcoming place that makes room for students of all backgrounds, ages and nationalities. The place is like a mini-UN. I'm in my 70s and needed to renew a long-expired license and refresh my knowledge of driving in the US after living abroad for 20 years. I paid for the package of 5 lessons together with scheduling of the road test and use of the school's car for the test. It was well worth the price. I had lessons with four different instructors, and they were all experienced, skilled, patient -- and multilingual. The school is in a great location for practice driving, not too busy and good for lessons in parallel parking and K-turns. I will be recommending Lama to anyone who needs driving lessons. read more

Very unhappy with this driving school. Got the run-around with scheduling my lessons for so long, until I eventually moved out of Brooklyn. I asked for a refund and they refused. Hundreds of dollars...Zero driving lessons. Beware! read more

Staten Island location is horrible ! They seriously must delete their bad reviews.. first, calling to book a class, you talk to some young unprofessional girls with attitudes. Second, you have to be dropped off and picked up your student from their stores. The instructors do not pick up or drop them off like other driving school, total inconvenience for parents. Third, my son tell me his instructor gives him no feedback, barely even talks to him. read more

Cannot recommend Lama Driving School enough! I got my permit late -- 26 years old -- and had previously only practiced driving with my dad, but needed a lot of help before taking my test. I took four lessons with Lama Driving School and improved so much. I especially recommend Huda if you are looking for a skilled, clear teacher who is also encouraging and warm! I took my test through the school with Ibrahim and with his support I was able to pass on my first try. So relieved to have my license and so grateful to Lama Driving School for the help - and the reasonable rates. read more

TWO AMAZING INSTRUCTORS TO GO WITH: 1). LAMA, the owner HILARIOUS, NURTURING, CLEAR, and SUPPORTIVE. You'll LOVE her like your own mother. 2). ALYAA PATIENT and explains how to drive CLEARLY and EASILY This school is awesome! I got my permit almost 2 years ago at 33 years old but was too scared to continue after a few lessons. At 35 yrs old, I took a chance and tried again. This time I requested learning w/ females only and they obliged. I am SOOOOOO happy I did. They teach the difference between driving to pass the DMV's exam and driving in the real world. I found there is a huge difference between the nurturing a female gives while teaching and the dictator way a man can teach, which may work for some but not for me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THESE TEACHERS! and I'm somebody who never believed I would drive. And now, I have my license!!! THEY ARE AMAZING! :D On a side note, I lost my permit the day before my road exam. Lama dropped me off at the Staten Island DMV and in 10 minutes, I had a temp permit. Alyaa picked me up and brought me to the test site. This is NOT a money grabbing business, they really show pride when you come away having learned a new skill. I AM SO GRATEFUL TO THEM ! read more

First and foremost, I'm proud to announce that I passed my roadtest on my first try and I couldn't have done it without the help of Lama Driving School. Special shoutout to my primary instructor, Deana (sorry if I spelled that wrong) - from the beginning she reassured me that I would pass and I felt super confident going in. Also thanks to Ibrahim, who gave me my first lesson and took me to the roadtest, who reassured me I was ready amongst a group of nervous drivers. **Disclosure: I had experience driving a car before and had taken the roadtest in another country, which I did not pass. I found the program by doing extensive research across all driving schools in NY. I did not take my 5hr class with Lama Driving School** Overall, I was satisfied with my experience at Lama Driving School. I signed up for the 5 class package, with an extra class on the actual day of the driving test. Bay Ridge is kind of a hike to get to, but it's a very safe and easy place to learn to drive in NY. The program is very affordable compared to other driving schools, this was the best bang for your buck. To have 6 lessons, road test booking, a car for the test, and transportation to and from the test, I paid just under $300, whereas other programs were charging $400-500. There was one instructor that sucked though. I can't remember her name but she boasted her "14 years of experience" the whole time. Kept making me think I wouldn't pass the road test but here I am - so avoid at all costs if possible read more

I am so happy I decided to take classes at Lama's Driving School! For 7 classes I had few instructors, which is awesome, because all of them share different and useful tips. Even though I failed my first road test, Lama stepped out and convinced me to schedule another road test for the next day, she was sure I'll pass it, and made me feel confident. She had right and I really passed it the next day. Thanks to Lama and all her instructors (especially Joseph with whom I took the most classes (forgive me if I spelled the name wrong)) with such a great energy now I have my license and I have no fear anymore! You would definitely not regret if you choose them! read more

This driving school gives you all the tools to pass the test. They instructors are patient and understanding, especially if you're a beginner or are nervous. They take their time with you and make sure that you are comfortable behind the wheel. My experience was great and I passed my exam. I definitely recommend this driving school!!! read more

The driving classes were great! But I failed twice on the road test. 1st road test, Was my mistake for not looking before leaving the destination. 2nd road test, because a pedestrian came out of no where. One thing for sure, is always practice on the road w/ someone. Don't just stay confident with your regular driving classes. I literally paid over $400. But I can finally say I pass on my 3rd Road test! One thing the Examiner told me "Always go back on the NYS DMV Driving booklet, to know your road signs and to review anything before actually being on the road" to be honest that was actually helpful to refresh myself. read more

Lama Driving School is a great place to learn how to drive a car and to prepare for the driving test. I've taken multiple lessons with different instructors and all of them were calm, knowledgeable and patient. People who work for this business are warm and caring. I really felt that they were interested in helping me succeed. The school owner, Lama, is an energetic and determined woman. She works hard and always has a smile on her face and a joke to cheer you up. Her positive attitude is very encouraging. This reflects on her entire team - they care about the students and have a very positive attitude while teaching. The school offers great packages and their prices are reasonable. I would recommend Lama Driving School to anyone. Thanks so much for teaching me how to drive and for helping me get my license! You are the best! read more

Posted this on google review but they don't take photos Review for lama driving school. The only reason I'm giving one stars is because the people that worked here were very friendly, otherwise it would have been zero. Now on to the negatives. I signed up for the 5 lesson package which did not include the 5 hour class. You don't get the same instructor for every practice, so there is no way for them to keep track of what you need to improve on. Each instructor has a different car, the main reason for paying them to use their car for the road test is to familiarize yourself with the car you have been learning in, which would make the road test a bit easier. On the day of the road test the person behind the counter asked if I wanted to pay for an additional lesson right before my test. Why not ask me this after my fourth lesson? Seems like a way to squeeze some extra cash out of the students before they take the road test. I would not recommend them. I went to a different driving school in Bay ridge after failing my road test and explained the situation. There was a girl in front of me signing up and I was told by my new school that the girl in front of me had just also came from lama driving school and was also switching schools. This is the first time I've ever posted a review, but if it helps someone else to avoid the mistake of using this school then I may as well. It wasn't all bad some of the things I learned from this school did help. But taking the road test with them got me an 80 score on my road test. Anything over 30 is failing. I've also noticed a trend of when this place gets a negative review they like to say they have no record of you going to their school. Go on Yelp they seem to be famous for this response as if every review is a conspiracy to put them down. Do your research on this place before you waste your money like I did. I also did not name the driving school I switched to as I don't want this review to come across as an advertisement for a different place. Below is what the owner replied. Dear "chris wohlfahrt" thank you for your feedback, just to inform you the 5 lessons packages works this way, is 4 lessons to prepare for the road test , the 5th and last lesson is for the hours before the road test, we offer the option to students to take the 5th lesson a day or week before the road test, that is optional, if the student already went through 5 lessons before the road test and want to practice 45 minutes before the road test is an extra lesson. Now to explain the different instructor, you can always ask to keep the same instructor, but we encourage students to go through different instructor since the examiner for the road test would be someone different as well, we encourage students to take lesson with 2 different instructors for practice, and we also can adjust to students needs if they want a specific instructor. And the last thing I want to add to this reply is that your name does not show in our records, and it is difficult to believe this review when your account is recently created. I wish you the best. (End of there response)This is unacceptable to say you have no record of me at your school. Now with my credit card info and screenshot of texts let's see you give that same response. So since there is no record of my name in your school can I contact my credit card and say that the charge was fraudulent? read more

As a person who has experienced Driving Schools on both sides of the Atlantic (England and the USA) I feel as though I am somewhat qualified to speak of the quality of this type of business. I can categorically and completely state that Lama Driving School has the highest standards that I have experienced anywhere. From the professionalism of the front office to the courtesy of the instructors, this is a place that really is difficult to fault. My first experience was to complete the somewhat laborious yet required five hour certificate. I'll be honest, was not a Saturday I was looking forward to. Within minutes, Lama introduced herself and I immediately knew that this was not going to be as bad as I thought. Lama is overflowing with charm and personality and has created a five hour course that is both informative, entertaining and most importantly well paced. Upon completing the course, I started using Lama Driving School for driving lessons. I was assigned to Deanna. Deanna has the perfect personality to be a teacher. She is easy going, patient and calm. I cannot rule out the possibility that she has the ability to absorb the anxiety of her students..... Deanna is knowledgeable and possess a plethora of tips and tricks to ensure her students are ready for the road test. On the day of my test, Sam took me out for my final lesson and to the test area. Although I only knew her for a day, I would trust Sam to take responsibility for all areas of my life. She also holds an incredibly calm and collected approach and she has super human levels of patience. She is a driving expert and any student lucky enough to be taught by her is in good hands. In conclusion, if you are looking for a place that is highly professional, knowledgeable and committed to helping you pass then you have found your place. This wonderful school has everything with an added side of sense of humor included. read more

I have never encountered such disgusting, rude and dysfunctional customer service in my life. First of all, it is impossible to get a lesson - I had to walk in just to get an appointment that's not weeks away. I planned my day around the 7pm lesson and travelled close to 2 hours, arrived excitedly just to be told CYNICALLY that I do not have a lesson. They are terrible at communication and great at undermining and gaslighting all of your grievances. "We've operated 11 years and never had anyone complained or called us rude" - well evidently untrue from the reviews here. The owner Lama is hysterical, mean and absolutely nasty, while the older woman at the front desk is horribly rude and passive aggressive. Even when I walked in before to schedule, a younger lady wanted to assist me in getting me an earlier appointment but that woman did not want her to help me. FYI They also do not wear masks/adhere to social distancing (while yelling at you). They even refused to give me a refund when I requested, even though previously she said that she would definitely refund if I requested on Paypal but 4 days later and NOTHING. I had never been so angry in my life. Truly INSANE. WORST experience and WORST place ever, and I'm not the only one. AVOID AT ALL COST. read more

Worst company ever. Got into a crash (someone ran into the car from the back) and the instructor was not able to present a license. I had to give mine as I was the one driving but she should've had a license. They then proceed to cancel all of my appointments I had scheduled in advance. Before that, I've had to wait up to an hour for a driver to be available . While this is an affordable school you can get better service and learning. Please, find a better school. read more
