I am writing my first Yelp review ever in order to give Lama Driving School a well deserved 5-star rating! I learned about Lama Driving School through Yelp, and I was stunned by the amount of 5-star reviews this driving school received. I decided to give it a try, and it was the best decision I could have ever made!! I did the seven lesson package and passed my road test on the very first try!!! My permit expired the day before my driving exam, so I HAD to pass my test. The staff at Lama Driving School made that possible for me. Taking lessons and learning how to drive in Brooklyn is so nice because people aren't as reckless drivers as in Manhattan, and the streets are pretty calm. The driving exam is in Staten Island (a blessing because there are hardly any pedestrians or cars!), and you have your last lesson on the day of your exam to ensure that you pass. The staff is super welcoming and kind. They are also very accommodating to your needs. They encourage you and root for your success all along your journey to getting your license. All of my instructors were incredible and taught me the things I needed to know for the exam. Lama, the owner of the school, became like a mother/auntie to me by the end of this experience. Sam was super kind and often reminded me of the rules of the exam. Aliyah became my absolute favorite instructor because she was so patient and made me feel so at ease while driving (much love and blessings to you Aliyah!). I have a soft spot in my heart now for this driving school, and I will definitely be coming back again for a highway lesson next now that I officially have my license. I had almost 14 lessons before my road test. It wasn't because of the instructors/school but because I took gaps in between the lessons. I had lessons with several instructors and Lama herself. They are all good instructors, but the one I felt comfortable and being able to learn was with Mageed. He is very gentle and thorough in his lessons. Roula took me to run errands for her during the lessons (?). The day of the road test, I was told to be in the school at 8am. We got to Staten Island by 9am and had my last lesson. I paid $43 for the last lesson because of the toll. Lama made sure I was comfortable and confident making turns, parallel parking and doing K turns before my test in the area where it took place. Ok so I should probably mention that I've stalled to get my license for about 8 years because of a traumatic accident when I was a child. I was terrified ALL MY LIFE to get behind the wheel of a car. I'm sooo happy that I found this school. My instructor was Ibrahim; he was strict but patient which is exactly what I needed. Lama herself is awesome, she's really dedicated to all of her students having a good experience and passing their road test on their first try. I just took my road test yesterday 12/1/17 and PASSED on my very first try! None of this would've been possible without the help of the wonderful staff at Lama Driving School. I had the pleasure taking lessons with Aliya and 2 other instructors who were also very informative. Lama the owner is truly my second mom. She was so warm and comforting and made me feel at ease yesterday before my road test. I had a fantastic experience with Lama Driving School! Great staff!!! Great prices! Accommodating scheduling! Got my license in just 2 weeks! I initially chose Lama Driving School because it was the best pricing and they offered the Staten Island road test but lessons in Brooklyn. Even though I live on the other side of Brooklyn and had to travel out of my way for lessons, I am so glad I chose this school. Only 2 weeks ago I registered for 7 lessons with the school without ever having any driving experience! Since I work a 9-5 job, Lama agreed to schedule me for a 6pm appointment (very accommodating btw!). I had never driven on the streets before in my life! As I began to back out of the drive way and onto the streets, I realized it was rush hour! Traffic filled the streets as I cautiously drove the surrounding blocks. Little did I know how critical this was to becoming acclimated as a new driver. I broke through my fear of driving and flourished ever since. Additionally Lama had confidence in me that I did not even know was there until the end of that first lesson. Since that time, I took the remaining 6 lessons and practiced as much as I could with friends. When it came time to sit for the road test I passed on my first try!!! You can probably go to any driving school and get your license in a reasonable time but if you choose Lama Driving School, you will look forward to your lessons and make friends along the way! It's bittersweet to have my license now because I will no longer be seeing Lama multiple times a week! She is truly a wonderful person and someone I look up to! read more

Hands down the best driving school! Everyone there are all friendly and helpful. They're all patient with you so it's okay if you're a beginner or even just slow with the mechanics. They're there to help you pass! I want to point out two instructors, Sam and Lama. When I failed my road test, they reassured me that I will pass the next one. And bam, I did. Lama apparently woke up early to drive to the road test just to help me practice. With her help, I was able to pass which I'm so thankful for. Lama driving school has no idea what they are talking about. They gave me incorrect information about The certification of the five hour class. When I picked up the certificate before the road test, it wasn't signed and I had to drive back to Brooklyn to get a signature and reschedule the road test. They Are not fully aware of the requirements my daughter needed. Lastly, When I called up for clarification, the woman who answered the phone was nasty. She wanted to know if my daughter had read the whole driving book to understand the requirements for her license. They would not take responsibility or admit to giving the incorrect information. They are not worth the money, which they took, from my daughter and two friends. read more

Very unprofessional, I am the type of person that's loves to give great reviews but after The bad experience with them and I just have to speak on it. Their schedule is tight, no enough cars for the students and some of them are old cars. No customer service at all. If you want to reschedule your class they don't help you with that. Also, I didn't feel welcome every one in the office speaks to each other in their language no respect for the customers. They're very serious they speak to you like one of their employees no respect at all. I'm glad that I finished with them and passed the road text. Finally, It has been such a negative experience with this school, I wouldn't recommend it to no one! read more

I LOVE this driving school! As a new driver in NYC, I had a lot of anxiety about being behind a steering wheel and manning a 3,000 lb hunk of metal. But the people here are so warm and kind, and they all really care about helping you improve your driving skills and succeed. I bought the 7 lesson package, taking 2 classes a week. 3 weeks later, I was able to pass the road test on my first try! Though during that time, I also practiced driving a lot with my parents, so I'd definitely recommend you practice as much as you can outside of your classes. The lessons are fantastic in helping you learn the do's and don'ts of the road, but constant practice is really the best way to become a great driver. Special shoutout to Keefa at the front desk - who greets everyone with a big smile and adds so much positivity to the office - and to my driving instructors, Huda and Mo! Huda especially is just the most wonderful teacher and friend. She completely eased my anxieties the very first time I drove a car, and she was there rooting for me every step of the way. Thanks to her, I always finished my classes feeling satisfied and a little bit more confident in my driving skills. Love you, Huda! After failing my road test miserably two times at a different school. I knew it was time to switch and I never regret making my decision in coming here. All of the instructors are supportive, caring, and they really try their hardest to make you pass! Best of all, I am no longer nervous/afraid of driving! So, I'm 41, a born and bred New Yorker who had managed to go my entire adult life without needing to drive. That is, until now. I'm getting married in the Fall and that wait-until-you-need-to mentality had caught up with me. I needed my license because sometimes, you can't rely on catching a cab. So, my fiance and I went to Lama, in part because the prices are great and primarily because they're in beautiful Bay Ridge and who doesn't want to drive in Bay Ridge? Everything at Lama was great. The cars are relatively new sedans with standard features. Their instructors are all very nice, understanding and knowledgeable. The 5-hour class was actually not as horrible as most people make it out to be. AND, most importantly, the school is completely focused on getting you licensed. The moment you sign-up with them, they're scheduling your road test for you. They're teaching you everything that's going to happen on the road test and they're giving you a great foundation to becoming a good and safe driver. We took lessons with Mimi and Lama. I thought both were great. They seem so at home in the passenger seat, putting you at ease, giving you tips on what to look for, how to respond to driving scenarios. Of course, they're invested in the outcome of your road test. The better you do, they better they look but it's more for Lama instructors. These instructors want you to be great on the road and they care about you. You're not going to be a great driver overnight. In fact, you'll probably have your license for months, if not years before that happens but if you want to be a great driver, this is a perfect place to put you on that path. We both passed the first time we took the test. Since then, we've driven all around New York City, upstate New York and in Texas without any incidents, without upsetting other cars on the road and perfectly blending in. We're not great yet but we're safe and for first-year drivers, I think that's a great accomplishment that we owe completely to Lama. read more

Even if i failed, I would still recommend this school and give 5 stars. I have never seen a business ran by a bunch of kind, patient and super honest people in my life. Lama and everyone else a the office is super friendly and welcoming. I had Majed and Abraham teach me and they are the most patient men in the world. I mess up my turns so many times and they stayed so calm and just had me try keep trying until I got it right. I HIGHLY recommend this place because unlike other driving school I have visited, they kept me on me feet with scheduling, reminding me about appointments and not only made sure I was ready for my road test, but they made sure I know how to drive safely. I had 5 sessions with LDS and had 3 different instructors. They all were great, so don't worry for whom you are scheduled with! They also provided me with the car and arranged me the road test appointment. They took me along with other students to the test site and everything was exactly based on the plan and on time. Lama was with us and briefed us about what we had to know for the test again which was very helpful. Highly recommend this school for 1st time drivers. Everyone here from the instructors to the admin people (Laila and Anna) are so nice and make you feel like family. The instructors, Majed and Abraham were both very good. They were patient and honest. If there was something I did wrong, we would go over it until it was right. The prices are very fair and they have numerous package deals. They offer the mandatory 5 hour safety class onsite too which is a plus. The only negative I experienced was a couple of lessons my instructor was a 10-15 min late, but we're human, it happens. I ended up passing my road test and couldn't of done it without them. Sam was the best driving instructor I have ever had! She was patient with me. Anytime I felt a bit unsure of myself, Sam gave me a boost of confidence. During each driving lesson, Sam made sure that we had enough time to practice turns, parking, 3-point turns, and stopping at stop signs. Anytime I had a class, Sam made sure I was comfortable and confident. She is an amazing driving instructor. But so are all the other instructors at the school. Sam speaks so highly of her colleagues. You can feel the amazing energy in the office. Lama is an absolute sweetheart too! The instructors all remember you and make you feel at home. This driving school is absolutely amazing. If you're in Brooklyn and looking for a school, look no further. From the very beginning, they treat you like family. I got the 7 lesson package and it was so worth it. I passed on my first try thanks to them. I started my lessons only a month ago. I had lessons with Abraham, Majeed, and Mimi. They were all amazing but Abraham was my favorite. He showed me a method that helps me pull out of parking and that really helped me. Scheduling lessons were super easy and they always call you the day before your lesson to confirm. I also took the 5 hour class here and it wasn't so bad. I was pretty nervous for the road test but having that last lesson before really helps. They drive you to Staten Island and you have the last lesson there, so you get to get a feel of what it's like to drive there (if you've never had experience, like me). Sam, my instructor that I personally chose, prepared me for everything that was to be thrown my way on the day of the test. I had a super short timeline to get my license ASAP before my certificate expires and they all worked seamlessly to help me prepare for the day of my test. Everyone from Lama driving school are amazing instructors. They always give you tips on how to do broken u turns, parallel parking, and just making right/left turns. They also tell you what you are going to expect from the examiners and the environment in Staten Island. I had a fear of driving in a car because of my past, but Roula/Mimi calmed me down saying it all depends on the driver on how safe driving can be. Afterwards, I was comfortable and confident in driving a car. It is true that all the employees speak in their own language, but they do that to make the paperwork go a bit faster. Since there are a lot of students whom go to Lama Driving School to learn and pass the driving test. First, for context, I am an older (40-ish) person who has never learned to drive. I decided 2020 would be my year to get this skill and looked at several Brooklyn driving schools. Lama really stood out with its high ranking, and these reviews have proven to be accurate! I took about 6 or 7 lessons with several of their instructors and all of them were kind, patient and encouraging. Their rates were reasonable and when one of my lessons had to be canceled due to inclement weather, they were very accommodating. Best of all, I passed my driving test on the first try! I was so nervous to get my driver's license after using a different driving school and failing my driver's test 4 years ago. I needed to get my driver's license in a week and Lama made it happen. My first lesson with Roula was difficult for I realized how much I needed to learn and I lost self-esteem (also turns out she's a writer, definitely check out her writing!). My next four lessons were with Lama, who immediately put me to ease. Lama is a combination of your funny best friend, mother and teacher. She is rambunctious and funny but she will not baby you. Her lessons didn't feel like lessons out of a curriculum but real life lessons to help you pass the test. I am deeply grateful for Lama and her team for helping a nervous driver pass her test! Every one of the instructors are great, really kind and patient and they all explain the more "complicated" aspects of driving in really helpful, easy to remember ways. Lama Driving School is great! Welcoming and kind staff, good prices, good availability of lessons, and good instruction. After searching for a good driving school for a while, I stumbled on Lama driving school because of this very Yelp page. Impressed by and a bit skeptical of all of the school's good reviews, I decided to go visit the place for myself. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Lama, the owner, who was working at the front desk, and the other driving staff. Everyone was very friendly, and informative. Lama, in particular, knew exactly what kind of package I should purchase in order to get my license in the three and a half weeks I had before I started school. Of the other driving schools in Brooklyn, this one offered the most reasonable prices (Seven total 45min lessons plus road test appointment, and a car for the road test for about $350, $ 35 per extra lesson, and $50 for the required 5hr class for new drivers). Scheduling lessons is very easy, as they offer lessons early in the morning (8 am), and after work as well (4 or 5pm). They usually have availability for lessons the same week you walk in. All of my instructors were very experienced driving teachers. In my opinion you can be an experienced driver, and have no instructional capabilities. However, each of my instructors were experienced drivers AND were very good teachers. Unless you request, you will often be given different instructors for each of your lessons. But don't worry, they are all very good! My first instructor was Sam. Sam is like an encyclopedia! She has an extensive knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and of common errors many novice drivers make behind the wheel. I loved having her because she could always spot why I was having trouble turning, or slowing down based on how I held my hands , or how close I sat to the steering wheel, for instance. Then I had Deana for a series of my lessons. Deana is great! Her teaching was always very clear and concise. She taught me how to make a k-turn, and how to parallel park within two lessons! I loved having her as my instructor, and always felt very comfortable whenever I was driving with her, even if I made many many mistakes. My instructors were phenomenal, and if these two women are like the other instructors, I know you will be in good hands with anyone you are paired with. Though I felt very prepared for the road test because of the instruction I received, what made all the difference in my driving ability was the hours of practice outside of class. To be clear, I learned the bulk of my skills with Lama. My seven lessons covered everything I needed to know about driving, and the five hour class (though very long) was informative about everything including the structure of the road test. But, I got better at driving by testing my skills at home with my mother. I would recommend that if you do Lama driving school, practice at home after each lesson, so that you do not forget what you were taught. For instance, when I learned how to park during a Tuesday lesson, I went out to practice later that day, Wednesday morning, and Thursday morning, prior to my Thursday lessons. If you have access to a car, please practice with it! You will not only be ready for the next lesson if you have refined the skills you have learned previously, but you will also be able to ask better questions of the instructors the next time you are behind the wheel. So if you can, PRACTICE! I passed my driver's test on the first try, yesterday, and I know I would not have done it without Lama driving school. I like the format of Lama's driver's test day. All going for their driver's test must have a lesson prior to the test. I had mine with Sam, who corrected some minor mistakes that could have cost me my newly minted license. Many thanks to her! For those who did not pass, Sam was also very sweet in calming them down, reassuring them that they would pass eventually, and offering them a variety of options they could take if they wanted to retake the test even as soon as the following week. Though test day was a bit nerve-wracking, Lama made it more convenient for all of their clients. Overall, I am very thankful for Lama driving school. I didn't anticipate that this would have been such a long review, but I wanted to be very thorough for those of you who are on the fence about using their services, like I was at first. Go for it! Get the package with seven if you are new to driving, and feel free to add lessons if you need more instruction prior to your test.
