One of the most crocked companies I dealt with. You will never get the refund after cancelling the driving lesson. In the website it says you may cancel the appointment and they refund the money. In my case I got the email on 7/11/25 indicating that they are going to refund my money $62.10. I called more than 5 times. Every time they lied by telling me it will refunded in 7 days. Now more than 16 days has passed no refund. So, be carful when making payments upfront to this company. read more

Worst company . I was waiting since before my scheduled class and was never let in by host on zoom. It was a 5pm class. I called at 507pm Jeff or dexter told me call back by 520 if host didn't let you in . I called at 520pm and guess what they told me it was too late. After it was too late to join Jeff told me my user name has to match the drivers license, that information would of be useful the first time I called or in and email which I never received when I first booked the class. My son took his 5 hour course, via Zoom, on 12/26. He was told he would have his certificate within 1-2 weeks. He called last week to check on the status of his certificate, and he was told it was mailed out on 12/26 and that he would have it within 1-2 weeks. Well, we are past two weeks now, so I called today. I was also told he would have the certificate within 1-2 weeks, so I said it is now past two weeks. My son is scheduled to take his road test next week and he needs his certificate. We live in upstate NY, there is no reason it should take 1-2 weeks for a certificate to be mailed to us when you say it was sent out on 12/26. This is ridiculous!! I would like my son's certificate ASAP so he can have it for his road test. read more

Passed my road test on the first try with flying colors thanks to Nate, also had lessons with James S and Joseph B at Flatbush. I also took some last minute lessons just before my road test with Crystal and Donovan that I think helped me with some of the finishing touches. Booked most lessons with Nate, he explains things really clearly and has a good gauge for when he needs to explain things in different ways to help you understand, and was also the most positive, encouraging instructor. Had an awful first ever lesson with Loubens (who is no longer there) who just told me to my face that I'm not passing the road test [ever]. Glad I proved him wrong. read more

He takes the time to fully explain everything and uses demonstrations to make sure you fully understand while teaching you solid driving techniques. I scheduled a class two weeks out because there was no availability sooner. I called and emailed inquiring about how to schedule more classes. No answer. No return call. Nothing. It's fine. I am patient and I know things are crazy because of corona. So last night is my first lesson. I hop in an Uber after work to make it on time, go all the way across Brooklyn to meet at the school and my instructor never bothers to show up. No phone call. Nothing. Just doesn't show. I call the school and leave a message. Today, still no one calls me, but I get an email around lunchtime telling me that my class, last night, has been canceled. I call again and finally get through to someone. I explain what happened and ask for a refund. She doesn't apologize for the no show or for not calling but does ask me to reschedule. Maybe they are good at instructing new drivers but the way they run a business and treat their clientele is terrible. read more

This is an update to my previous review. After finally being able to book sessions, I had lessons with Shawn and Isaura. After my second lesson which was with Shawn, I personally went to the office and requested to switch my remaining lessons with Shawn. I forgot the young lady name who was behind the desk but I know she was new and was very pleasant. Shawn is the example of what a driving instructor should be. He is very tough but still patient. He makes you feel comfortable while driving and provides you with great cues to use in everyday life. As for the company as a whole, I still believe that the system should be revamped to be more customer friendly. This place could or might be losing customers due to the operation of the website itself and also for the lack of customer service when you reach out via phone or email. read more

I am convinced that this is the best driving school in NY. Period. First - Hiba at the front desk is a literal angel. She is so helpful and genuinely happy to see you when you walk in. She is the sunshine of Drive Rite Academy. Second - Simon, the owner of Drive Rite Academy, is awesome. He was my instructor for my first lesson (i.e., my first time ever behind the wheel, basically), and he gave me a crash course covering everything from how to accelerate/brake to how to turn smoothly at intersections. By the end of the lesson, I was driving, slowly but surely, through the streets of Flatbush, secretly bewildered by the fact that he trusted me enough to let me drive. That trust meant a lot at the time. Flash forward a few weeks later - after having received lessons from various instructors, I realized I would learn faster if I consistently stuck to a single instructor. (I arrived at this conclusion after noticing that there were minor - but potentially confusing - discrepancies in the ways in which different instructors taught, which isn't a problem if you like to understand things from multiple perspectives.) Enter Jason: the superhero of Drive Rite Academy and the sole reason I passed my road test yesterday. From our first lesson, he established a solid and systematic structure for learning the two most worrisome aspects of the road test (for me): 1) the 3-point turn, and 2) parallel parking. Jason was SO patient during the lessons, providing me with helpful constructive criticism every step of the way. I was struck by how much he genuinely cared about preparing me for the road test. At some points he even stopped and took the time to illustrate a concept on paper for me. I booked a double-lesson with him the day before my road test, and he ensured that I would be prepared for anything that might come up during the test. The end result: At the end of my road test, while I waited nervously for my examiner to finish taking notes on his clipboard, he asked me if I had previously owned a license, and mistakenly thinking he meant "permit," I said "yes". He responded with, "thought so." When I clumsily corrected myself ("Oh - no sorry I meant I've never had a license"), he said, "well, you're about to get one now" - and handed me the receipt. I was so excited I didn't even notice I had received a perfect score (+0 points) until I looked down at my receipt on my ride back to Drive Rite Academy. Avery Jones is the best driving instructor, hands down. I've taken classes from a number of driving instructors over the years - both at Drive Rite and beyond - and Avery is heads and shoulders above the rest. In the first ten minutes of class he gave an overview of how to get comfortable in the driver's seat, which no other instructor had gone over with me before (who knew you could adjust the height of the seat -and- the seat belt? Not me.) It's very clear from the start that he's incredibly knowledgable and puts you at ease right away. I am beyond satisfied with my choice of Drive Rite Academy for driving lessons. My whole experience from start to finish was excellent! Let's start with the 5 hour class. To be honest, I was dreading sitting in a room for 5 hours. However, I was very pleasantly surprised that the class was actually engaging. Our instructor, Jim, was a really cool and genuinely a nice guy. The class was a mix of videos and lecture, with personal anecdotes mixed in. The class really didn't seem as long as I thought. I feel like I left the class with a lot of knowledge that I will always use in the future. I opted to go with the Silver Package, which consisted of 6 driving lesson, the 5 hour course, and the road test. I also upgraded to the rush road test appointment, in order to speed up the road test to within 3 weeks. Drive Rite was able to schedule my road test for 2 weeks after I took the 5 hour class, in a test site that I preferred (I wanted to go to the Seaview). I scheduled my lessons about 2-3 times a week. I also scheduled one lesson the day before my road test, where my instructor Jason gave me a mock road test. This really gave me a great idea of what to expect on my road test. The instructors that I had for lessons were Jason and Scott. They were both really great at targeting my weak points and letting me know what I needed to work on. I have taken driving lessons at another school before and I have to say that I learned more from one lesson at Drive Rite than 5 lessons at another school. Today, I passed my road test, and I owe it to the instruction and service I received at Drive Rite. I felt really nervous before the road test, but I was able to stay calm because my instructor Scott told me that I would be fine. That extra boost of confidence helped me a lot. The staff here genuinely cares about the students. Everyone that I encountered, from the office staff to the instructors, was extremely helpful and friendly. The facility and cars are also new and clean. I have already recommended several of my friends to Drive Rite Academy. I took 11 lessons with Drive Rite and PASSED my test on my first try. I have no other driving experience or practice. It's all been with this school. The teachers are all very kind, but I have my favorites. Yoevelyn is amazing. Greg is so sweet and calming. Gil (Prospect Heights location) is great. Lenet is great as well. This is a great school, and I'm recommending it to friends. The Flatbush location is a GREAT, easy place for beginners to learn. My interactions with the front desk have been very pleasant. Everyone at Drive Rite is sweet and helpful The only CON is they're very busy right now, so getting classes booked means being on hold on the phone for a LONG time! It also means I wasn't able to book as many classes as I wanted simply because their instructors are all very booked up. This might be because there's a rush of people trying to get their licenses post-pandemic... PS -- I took a lesson the morning of my test with Greg. I did not do a package I just did 2 lessons in the same day with Andy. I was a week away from road test and my parking and broken U turn was bad. In 2 45 min lessons, I was parking. My driving was good but couldn't get parking. Andy's method had a lot of steps but it helped. I can't speak on 5 hour class or customer service but only can say thank you to Andy. This driving school is definitely NOT what I expected. They have poor customer service when it comes to rectifying an issue SUCH AS AN UMBRELLA BEING LEFT IN ONE OF THEIR CARS! I received the run around about this since August. I emailed the "owner" via Yelp and nooo RESPONSE. I recently just got my driver's license thanks to this school after 2 failed attempts in the past with another place. I took a lesson per week for a month and drove also on my own with a family member. I had Christina in the beginning and Andre towards the end of my classes. Really informative, patient instructors. They pointed out all my strengths and weaknesses The 5hr class is torture to have to go through but Sylvia made it bearable. The owner Simon was very approachable. Where do I begin?? Drive Rite had this gal driving right. Nestled right in the nook of Brooklyn college. It's been a wonderful experience, from start to finish. I took the silver package of 10 lessons being I had minimal experience driving and had some practice. I had Jim as my instructor and we clicked since day one, funniest guy ever, humored all my silliness. He definitely made me feel comfortable and gave me great tips for driving, turning, parking and broken u-turns.. I also had Steve for one lesson who was equally wonderful. All the instructors are just engaging and helpful. Silvia for the 5 hour class was hilarious, the time flew right by, she was engaging from start to finish. Simon, my personal secretary lol, from humoring me and being so sweet. Both Jim and Simon are my two favs guys lol but they always joke on me, but all love though. As of August 3, this girl passed her road test on the first try and was driving rite. I had the most amazing experience with DriveRite Academy. I'm the most anxious person on the planet, so of course when it came to driving I had to make sure I got tons of help and the BEST driving school. I passed my road test on my first try today, with ONLY 5 POINTS!!! I was so comfortable driving after the 10 lessons I had with Stephen over the course of about a month and a half. I bought the GOLD 10 lessons package that included the 5 hr. class and a car (and instructor) for the road test. I would definitely recommend this package for any new drivers that have little/no experience on the road. Starting with the 5 hr. class, I believe the instructor's name was Sylvia. The time FLEW by. She was great. She kept it interesting the entire time and did fun exercises to engage all of us. I thought I would be bored to death but was overall a really enjoyable experience. When it came to the actual lessons, I tried to maintain the same instructor for every lesson just so that we could always be on the same page. Once in awhile I had a different instructor but they are all pretty amazing. It's nice to get a different perspective every now and then. My instructor was Stephen (Steve) and he was great!!! He's amazing at what he does, he knows what he's talking about and he knows how to relay it onto the student. My parking is perfect thanks to the step-by-step tutorial he taught me. Every time I was having trouble grasping a concept, (left turns!!) we would go over it a million times until I perfected it. He didn't hesitate to tell me when I could have improved on something. I did several mock road tests with Steve and one with Simon and that's what really helped me! Also, Simon and the staff at the office are really accommodating. They're super nice and always there to help you. I think I only had one minor scheduling issue in the 2-3 months that I was taking lessons and they took care of it right away. This past Thursday I took my 5 hour class with Jim. When I first booked the class I changed my date from Saturday to Thursday at 5pm so that I can have the class with Sylvia I'm not sure why she was not the instructor but thankfully Jim was great. The class lasted 4hrs and he made it interactive, he told us some stories and related the class to his life and specific experiences. I signed up for 10 lessons on the fly, I'm not even sure I was really willing to commit. I was nervous and didn't think I would ever feel comfortable driving. Just finished my road test today and PASSED with flying colors on the first try! This school is awesome. All of the staff (at the school and the instructors) are supportive and seem to really want to see you pass. As I said in my previous review I took my lessons with Monique. I also took a few with David. They are both amazing and I'd highly recommend them. To reiterate a few of their tips: 1. TAKE NOTES - It really helps. Treat it like a college course. 2. Practice with someone when not taking driving lessons- This helped me get a great handle on the car and was one less thing to worry about for the driving test. 3. Take your last few lessons as close to your road test as possible. 4. Try to schedule a lesson the day of the road test. Took my last lesson an hour before I had my road test. It helps. 5. Ask your instructor to do a mock road test to see where your weak points are. I had the 6 lessons package, but take more if need be. But take them with Drive Rite Academy. The in-class 6 hour defensive driving course was the best deal I saw. The course was very informative and my instructor, Simon, was great! I learned a lot without being bored to tears. For some unknown/lazy/busy reason I waited until a month before my Learning Permit expiration day to start taking my Driving Lessons. I Purchased the Gold Package + Rush Test. Since I had no time to loose, I just booked the First 5 classes with the teachers they had available, but than I found Jay! Jay was amazing! he gave me the right instructions, and built my confidence. His classes were so helpful!! He is very patient and he truly loves driving. His passion made the classes be so light and fun! He was 100% present during the classes, and it made me feel like I should to. I passed the Rush Test today with 9 classes, I was still shaking and about to cry when I got out of the car and saw Jay!!! I definitely passed this test because of his teaching skills!! And I will make up for his name driving safely and continuing to Kicking Ass with my Parallel Parking Skills I super recommend Drive Rite (Dean Street), and Definitely Recommend having a class with Jay!! read more

I first took 10 classes with drive rite, took the test and failed. Took 5 more classes and then passed. From all the 15 lessons I had several different instructors; some good, some not so much. I realize everyone has their own learning style and I have mine. My favorite instructors were Greg and Andre. Greg is super calm and relaxed and made me feel calm and relaxed behind the wheel. Andre is much more technical and likes to explain the technique and reasons behind things. He really helped me out right before I took the exam and I know he's the reason I was confident in those last moments. I highly recommend at least one class scheduled with him. Also he's a nice guy and comfortable to talk to. I learned different things from all the instructors that I think culminated into a good experience overall. Also the receptionist is probably one of the most beautiful souled people you'll ever meet. She's just so goddamn nice and helpful. Their cars are in good shape too. I didn't have any outside practice at all besides these lessons so if you've been practicing on your own, some additional lessons from here will definitely help you to pass. read more

Absolutely no way I'll ever try to book lessons with this school again. They never pick up the phone at all! I had to call four times to get someone to answer my call to book lessons. On top of that, their office hours are either inaccurate or they're just plain inconsiderate. I arrived 30 minutes prior to their listed closing time just to pick up my certificate. No one was there and they didn't even leave an indication of why. There was other students waiting too and nothing, couldn't even get them on the phone! After one lesson with her, HOURS before my road test, she was able to fix my parking. I came in clearly not knowing what I was doing in terms of parking and she fixed it in less than an hour. We were both skeptical for obvious reasons and she didn't want to teach me something new the day of the test but I was desperate and we made it work. Overall, I had a great experience with Morgan.
