Price: very competitive compared to other schools in Manhattan. Instructor: super friendly & professional. Me: I am foreigner with 18 years of having a driving license from Poland. Drove in the States for 1 year everyday, after that rented a car about twice a year for the last 10 years. Finally after 12 years in the States I decided to do a driving license. After passing the exam and taking the 5 hours info class I needed a car for one hour practicing and taking me to the test. After searching the web for the cheapest and most convent school I found "Drive Train Driving School" The rates were pretty moderate on their website. Before booking anything I called the school, spoke with the owner and he explained how everything worked and what i exactly needed to take. He said I needed to buy 1.5 hour driving class, which was preparing me to the exam, I could practice a bit and get use to the car. ($75) And I needed the car for the test ($100). I paid online and called back to confirm my payment and the date of the exam. The trainer came to pick me up on time, actually he was before time. He was very friendly and professional. He definitely knows his job well. He told me exactly how the exam will look. WE practiced parallel parking and 3 way u-turn. I had a bit problem with parallel parking and he said it can be a problem. And I have to admit I did not do it well on the test, but still passed it. Overall I had a great experience and I would definitely recommend this company to everyone who needs to do their driving license. read more

Do not waste your time and money with Drivetrain. I paid for my friend to take the MV-278 pre-licensing course, and we never received the course completion certificate after she took the course. When we contacted Drivetrain about it, they agreed to resend it, but never did. They ghosted me on my follow-up messages and blocked our numbers when we tried to call, even after I offered to pay extra for them to resend the certificate. Their website specifies that duplicate copies of the certificate can be ordered up to 1 year after taking the class, but this was not honored for us. I will be reporting Drivetrain to the BBB -- they took my money and did not provide what they agreed. We will need to pay for another course to get the certificate. Others' experiences may differ, but based on my experience I would avoid Drivetrain at all costs and go with a more reliable provider that does what they say they will, even if it's slightly more expensive. read more

We were extremely happy with Drivetrain driving school for our son. He just passed his driving test today after doing approximately 38/40 hours of lessons with Aubrey. Aubrey is extremely convenient as he picks the driver up at their home, is easy to schedule appointments and is reasonably priced for a private lesson. He always points out discounts on his website when they become available. It is almost essential for New York City residents as parents are not allowed to drive with their children with learners permit within Manhattan. After a few lessons with Aubrey, we felt comfortable to allow our 16 year old son to drive our entire family (outside of Manhattan) in the car. His driving was extremely skilled and careful. Aubrey also accompanies the students to the road test/practices in the area of the road test which makes passing the test easier. I would highly recommend! read more

Drivetrain Driving School is easily the best driving school in NYC. Before coming to Drivetrain I had very little driving experience, having only driven with family on and off for almost two years. Aubrey of Drivetrain was very accommodating to my needs, as I was moving to Virginia for work, and I needed to obtain my license within 1.5 months of beginning my lessons with them. Not only was he able to schedule me a road test as soon as possible, but was able to help me get my driving to where it needed to be. Aubrey was able to pinpoint all of my bad habits, and give me the mindset I needed to fix it all up. His co-worker Peter, was whom took over my lessons after a few weeks, and Peter was an amazing instructor. He was able to make me feel really comfortable and confident in my abilities, and was supportive all the way to the very location of the test. I had two sessions scheduled with Aubrey Nurse, with the goal of improving my driving skills following a couple decades of not driving. After about 10 minutes at the wheel, Aubrey informed me that he could not teach me and that he would take me home and refund my money. Incredulous does not describe my feeling in that moment. Now in retrospect, I realize that Aubrey was extremely sensitive and defensive from the get go. Since my goal was to improve, I asked him several questions, sometimes challenging him on things. In my prior experience on earth, teachers handle students' questions in a way that helps them improve. Not this guy. He did not want questions, he wanted mute obedience. I am still shocked at this experience. Since then, I have had two sessions at a normal NYC driving school, and those have gone extremely well. Most importantly, they let me ask questions! read more

Aubrey was so nice during all of my classes and super patient with new drivers. I didn't even know how to ride a bike before, but now I officially have my license! Honestly, the tips that he gave were super useful and definitely are going to help you with your test or just keep you safe while daily driving! I booked a lesson with these folks on Monday .The person was late but I let it slide its New York and the Traffic can not be avoided sometimes . The lesson was ok but difficult to understand the instructor .So me being excited I booked a second lesson for Friday at 9:00am no one showed up or called .I had to call them . Finally I get a text back saying the car broke down can they reschedule for next week .So I did but suggested since I would be paying for continual lessons .they should at least give me a free lesson which they mention they do on occasion .I got a call back saying you know what why don't we just go ahead and forget about Wednesday and cancel that and we will refund your money and hung up . read more

As I'm from Ireland, but a fully licensed driver, NY makes you re do your driving test as if I was a novice. I found Drivetrain online, and from the initial 5 hour pre licence course with Aubrey to the pre test lesson with Peter and then the test itself the service was great. Aubrey put everyone at ease in the pre test course and gave great insight to test process. Peter was great on the practical lesson and leading up to and after the test. Worst service ever. Registered and paid $50 for a 5 hour driving class two days prior. I get an email 2 hours before the session notifying me that the session was cancelled without any explanation. I had to call in to ask why it was cancelled. When I asked the person I believe his name was Yakup, said "The DMV didn't send over the books" and "it was out of his hands" and quickly hung up (Didn't even tell me what the next steps are or any word of refunds). I had to call back again at which point he yelled at me and complained that I kept calling back; I personally had to ask if he could refund me and he said he would and hung up again. I called for a THRID time to see how the refund would be confirmed at which point he angrily told me to stop calling and I personally had to ask how I could confirm the refund. He yelled at me some more, told me he had to go to initiate the refund and hung up. WORST SERVICE EVER. The individual who I spoke to should be fired and everyone who is considering using Drivetrain's service should not. Their representatives are irrational and lazy. read more

Used Drivetrain for my 5-hour class. The location was convenient, and it started on time. Aubrey was very entertaining, and obviously knowledgable. The class was definitely not boring. I'm not entirely positive I learned a lot about driving. I learned a lot about the people who took classes before - vague stories about his friends and students involving (but not limited to) drunken motorcycle driving, dismembered boyfriends, attempted vehicular homicide... The stories were entertaining, but I would have loved to learn more about actual driving. I did learn about the rules of right-of-way, and that I should (obviously) not drive while drunk. If that's all the class is, then mazel! I got what I needed. I got the certificate at the end, and downloaded the NYS DMV 5-hour class workbook. Great service by the guys at Drive Train. I did the 5 hour course with Aubrey which was actually made quite funny by him. He was then able to organize my driving test appointment for the following fortnight so I didn't have to wait. Peter was the instructor who I met 2 days before the test. Really good guy who covered the test and how to pass with zero marks against me. We then did 1.5 hour practice before the test on day of, again, very thorough about what I had to do. Paid $315 bucks and got Peter as my trainer. Turned up 15mins late in a 1999 merc. benz. left indicator light on the inside panel wasn't working. Overall an encouraging trainer and covered most parts on the test. Somehow at the beginning of the test the car would not start as practiced (this is not a buttoned started car, key started, two turns, once for elec., second for engine, 2nd turn did not start engine). Failed. Going to flushing to get a cheaper deal next time, and a newer car. read more

It was the reasonable price for lessons that drew me in and it's Aubrey that keeps me coming back. I just began driving with him a few weeks ago and he is the best instructor I've had. And I've dealt with several (just this summer alone). His expertise with driving and his control over the wheel blows my mind. (And yes, there has been several situations where he has had to take control of the wheel, so I know!) He points out faults in my driving that no other instructor has yet. This is a great driving school. I had not had such great experiences with other driving school instructors, as well as their hours. It is difficult to practice driving in Manhattan and to pass the road test. I had been taking lessons here and there for the past few years before finding the right driving school. My instructor at Drivetrain had flexible hours and an easy-going manner. There was reliable service and enough availability. Many times he was able to pick me up and drop me off at my home in Upper manhattan. We practiced driving in his Mercedes (pretty sweet right?) The instructor was calm and catered to my own specific needs. He was able to be honest with me about what I needed improvements on. Through the course of about ten lessons he was able to help me develop the skills that I needed to pass my road test. I highly recommend this school. read more

Best training by far! When I started I was a really nervous and inexperienced driver but then I took 9 hours of driving classes with Aubrey and it transformed my driving. He is a really cool guy who made my lessons entertaining and helped me gain so much confidence in my driving. I ended up passing my test from the first time! I did my whole package with Drivetrain including the 5 hour test, driving lessons, and road test and it was very easy to schedule and everything happened on time. I would recommend this driving school to all my friends. I already kind of knew how to drive, which meant that I had a few bad habits, and I had been driving around aimlessly without improving much. My instructor was able to identify the specific problem areas (for me, observational skills, responding to dynamic situations) and helped me address those in a very constructive and effective manner, and I passed my road test with no problem! I had been terrified of driving in Manhattan before, but the instructor very gradually exposed me to busy traffics, and I felt that he was always in control of the situation. I passed road test on the first try thanks to Aubrey's instruction. There was nothing for me to have to prepare beforehand other than seeing the right guy. He called me a day before the road test and reminded me of that. And the next day took me to the road test site and gave me driving lesson in detail. On top of that, the road test site has changed to other place because of some construction issue and I didn't realize or even get notified of it but he was already aware of that and we got there without any delay. The service here is terrible! I've been trying to purchase a driving lesson package here for about 3 days already. I came into their office around 1pm on a Saturday, prior to even going I looked up their business to make sure they would be open that day, they were. When I arrived, the office was vacant. I then called the number on their website to have someone tell me "No one was in the office right now" I then asked when would be a good time to go in and purchase some lessons the man told me weekdays from 9-5. I came in today(Tuesday) around 2pm and asked the woman at the front desk how I would be able to go about purchasing a package, the woman said she is not the one who handles the purchase of packages but if I take a seat someone can help me. Five minutes later she calls me up to her desk to hand me a post-it note with the number I called previously saying I can purchase a package if I call the number. I called the number and explained to the man that I would like to purchase a driving lesson package and he responds with "okay can I call you back? I have to take care of something, give me thirty minutes" this is ridiculous, I won't even attempt to buy driving lessons here anymore. read more

Taken a driving lesson with Aubrey. The guy was so negative about everything, it made me not want to learn driving at all.

I did my five hour pre-licensing course with Aubrey who made the class as entertaining as it could possibly be. He was able to get me a booking for a driving test the following week and took me for one lesson. After having to get a driving license in 4 different countries - there is no doubt that this was the easiest, most entertaining and best run driving school I have been used.
