I had a tremendous experience at Acropolis Driving School! They were so kind, communicative, and, of course, tremendously talented at teaching someone how to drive! I could not have asked for a better driving school to not only help me obtain my license but to help me to truly KNOW what it means to be a good driver. Right now, I am 32, and I last drove in a car when I was 16, but I never managed to get my license! This year, I decided I would become a licensed driver before the year was out, and Acropolis wanted to see me succeed in this endeavor. From trunk to horn, as it were, my experience at Acropolis was exactly what I hoped it would be. Firstly, the ladies at the front desk are so, so kind. I cannot say it more emphatically! Never will you meet nicer people who want better for you! Lissy, Estephany, and Iralda went out of their way to make me feel welcome, comfortable, and calm! And everyone knows that a good feeling is key to driving well in the car. It really felt like a family helping you to drive. And I so appreciated their enthusiasm and bolstering. They even went out of their way to make some specific arrangements for me in terms of car and lesson schedule when I went to take my road test! They did not have to do this, but it really helped me to feel confident about passing and so they went above and beyond to help accommodate me! And I cannot say thank you enough! Acropolis is also SO organized. It is amazing. They would text me the night before every single lesson and always made sure I knew what my schedule was. If I needed to move classes, they would always accommodate me, and the classes always began and ended exactly on time! When it came to being behind the wheel, Acropolis very smartly kept most of my lessons with one instructor, but sometimes changed the car and teacher to help simulate real driving environments. This method gives you a core guide to learn from in a solid way, but also gives you access to different driving perspectives and tests your abilities to be in a new car with a new person. Acropolis also always has both the goal of making you an excellent driver and the goal of you getting your license in mind. These may sound the same, but they actually require two different skill sets from instructor and student. And both are equally important to seeing you onto the road! Acropolis gave both to me! During my lessons, my two main instructors were Miguel and Marlene. And truly, I cannot say enough about either one of them! Miguel was my instructor for the first half of my lessons. And he was such a calm and solid presence in the car when I was so nervous at first. Crucially, he really wanted to focus on the overall experience of driving. The important outcome in our lessons was not passing one road test necessarily, but that I really knew how to drive. I appreciate so much the core fundamentals of driving that he instilled in me and how at ease he made me behind the wheel. Marlene was then my instructor for the second half of my lessons! Firstly, Marlene is so cool and funny. And she has a knack for breaking down the complex module of driving into easily understood pieces that can be executed. She explained maneuvers to me in a way that I could think about while not in the car and review by myself, which was exactly what I needed. Marlene understands how to slowly evolve a student and how to get them ready for whichever road test they are taking specifically, which is a tremendous kindness. Acropolis is an awesome school. Their instructors are very calm and friendly while being informative. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking to get their license. They were very professional. I did 10 classes. And passed my road test on the first try. The roast test was about 15 minutes long. It consisted of some turns, a 3 point turn, and parallel parking. I was very nervous before starting the classes but the people there assured me that they would walk me through the whole process and after meeting the instructor (My instructor was Ariel) who was super calm and helpful, I felt very confident. Their customer service is awesome. It's so nice to work with people that are tech savvy. They remind you about classes the day before for every class via text. Which is awesome for me because I'm super busy and having the reminder was great! They also have nice new cars that was a pleasure to use. While the cars are modern enough to all have cameras in them, the instructors are helpful in reminding you when you can and cannot look at them to pass the road test. So it's great to pay close attention to what the instructors say. And lastly a tip, I asked for all of my classes to be very close together, especially to the date of the test. Avoid this school like the plague. Yes as everyone has mentioned the front desk people are very sweet (the only star I gave) but they are also extremely disorganized. They don't seem to have an electronic system. All my classes were written on a piece of paper and often times, they'd forget to reschedule a course when I told them I wasn't available. You have to wait light years for an exam date. They keep blaming covid but they just forget to apply for dates. I was told of my exam a week before it was supposed to happen and wasn't able to get time off work. My 5 hour driving course was never scheduled even though I kept asking for when I'd be able to take it. The exam date comes and they notified me I'd have to take the course before they take me to the exam which meant I would have to take a full day off work instead of a half day with no notice :( There's only one good instructor but you get matched to different people each time you go. There's no consistency between instructors. I paid for 15 lessons and still feel like I can't drive. I would just avoid this place if you don't want to deal with headaches concerning scheduling. read more

So I found this place through Yelp. I called and the minute Iralda picked up the phone it was like talking to a long time friend. She explained the packages, recommended the best one for me based on my experience and told me to come on to register.  When I went in to register she explained the whole process/packages and gave me a heads up that everything was delayed due to the pandemic (I was on maternity leave and wanted to do everything ASAP). Iralda then texted me my schedule for the 15 lesson package. I was all set but then my child care person was called back to work. I then had to text her and reschedule 13 lessons, she texted back and said "make me a list of the days you can't do and give me days you can". Then 3 days later my child care person was told they couldn't go back to work yet and I had to text her again to just leave my lessons as is. I was so embarrassed, but with all that back and forth Iralda was never angry, upset or anything. I took my lessons with multiple drivers (all wearing mask) and during different times of the day: 9am, 11am, 12, 2pm. I took lessons with Salomon, Jose, Pablo and Santiago. Each driver had their own way of doing things but each showed/explained exactly what you needed to know. No instructor ever lost their patience with me or yelled at me. They were all positive during each lesson and answered all questions that I asked. Even the conversations during the lessons allowed me: the nervous wreck behind the wheel to feel more at ease and more comfortable.  All cars were working cars (I took lessons before with cars that the blinkers weren't working, the door was broken etc) I am so glad I found Acropolis Driving School because I honestly believe that if I would have went with another school, I would have never gotten my driver's license. read more

After 14 lessons I finally see the car that I will take the test in and it's older, doesn't drive as well, and I feel uncomfortable, the engine is noisy, the "test" teacher talks on her phone continuously and doesn't discuss the test, seems to hate her job fair enough. The first DMV tester cancels my ride when she sees how uncomfortable I am in the car and says it's really the driving school's responsibility to teach in the same car that you test with. This is clearly more of a money thing, it's a small business but still a nicer test car is logical. The guy ahead of me failed. One teacher Miguel is very good, one named Marlene screamed at me during a lesson. I think it's time for Acropolis to modernize their business, use computers, buy a better car for the road test, it is indeed a bit rusty like the Acropolis in Athens, a small well meaning business that is falling apart. read more

If you're looking to get your full license in the city - you NEED to go here! All staff members are incredibly helpful from the second you call/ stop in and it feels like you're talking to good friends/family. I did my research on driving schools and decided Estephany and team were the best fit for me. I called to ask how much a pack of 5 classes were as well as the car for the road test and they asked if I needed the 5 hour course etc. before giving me a price, which I was very appreciative of. From there, Estephany was super helpful when scheduling my lessons and sends a reminder the day before every lesson. The instructors are also amazing! I was nervous driving in the city but they really do calm you and make the lessons fun! I looked forward to every class because I knew they would all be patient, kind and informative. On the day of the exam, you meet at the driving school where Estephany and team explain the entire process of taking the test. They then drive you to the centre and wait for you to take your test and then you have the choice of having them drive you back to the school or you can take the subway back. I cannot recommend Acropolis driving school enough! They really take the stress out of the test as they help book it for you! All you need to do is show up and learn. read more

I give one star because the administrative staff was nice in the beginning; other than that don't waste your time or money here. I've had to reschedule a few lessons; and each time they make it extremely difficult. Their preferred method of communication is via text; I had to cancel and reschedule 2 lessons and they constantly kept saying that they were booked for the whole month; when I would ask what's the next available date they said they'd get back to me but NEVER did. I literally had to harass them so that someone would schedule my lessons. I feel like once they've gotten your money they could care less if you actually get your lessons complete or pick up any skills at all. The instructors aren't consistent. If you do want to pass your road test you're better off looking at a different school. They don't care about their customers. read more

I was recommended by a friend to attend this driving school, and I am more than glad I went. I only practiced driving once before I started my classes, so I bought the 15 class package (reasonable rates) which includes: 15 driving lessons, the 5 hr course, road test appointment, and car for the road test. I went in to pay for the package in June, started my classes in July, and my lessons were spaced out up until my road test appointment in September (the goal I set for myself). Acropolis is taking the proper precautions to minimize the transmission of COVID-19, temperature checks are required upon arrival, hand sanitizer is always available, drivers and students are required to wear a mask, and the windows are rolled down. I mainly took lessons with Suliman and Kevin, who were very helpful and made sure that I strengthened my weaknesses to prepare for the road test. They will cover every part of the test: turning, parallel parking, intersections, 3 pt turn, etc. For my final two lessons, I practiced driving in the car that would be used for the road test (Santiago's). On the day of, Santiago drove two other students and myself to and from the location, and I'm happy to say we all passed our driving exam. Thank you to the staff at Acropolis, and Iralda for being so helpful and professional during my time as a student! I was recommended by a friend who was able to pass in a month. I took six lessons so far in June then I went on vacation. I provided my availability and no one has reached out to me in a month, We are now in August. When I told the lady my availability, she was like it depends on if we have space. Why continue to take people money, if you want have the proper time available to teach them. I paid $500 and haven't had my full ten lessons. My first driver/Jose the one with the thick accent gave me so much anxiety. All he kept saying was "driving is like boxing 1,2,3" and "it's a piece of cake". I also have three lessons with him at the same time and day and he couldn't even remember who I was. The second driver I had was very good and gave me less anxiety, however, I never heard from anyone to schedule the remaining of my sessions. read more

I just passed the road test yesterday!! My permit was going to expire mid October. 5years ago I took a first road test and Boom!! Failed .. I drive in my home country I thought it's easy. Because of my job(I know it's excuse but), I finally decided to go to driving school before I take 2nd road test which has been 5years lol I took 5 lessons. All teachers are nice and relaxed. Spend your money elsewhere. Acropolis is relatively inexpensive but there's a reason for that. I want to them because I had to get my license in order to move to CT. During lessons, the instructor you said I drove Well and I could easily pass it. He kept saying piece of cake. For the most part, he never said anything critical of my driving. On the day of the Road test, I feel confident that I could pass it. I went up with two other students and the instructor. The two people in front of me didn't pass and neither did I. The subsequent times I took it without the instructor or the school, I failed as well. The last time I took it and filled the lady asked if I even went to Driving School. I said yes and she said really which one because it seems like you don't know basic things. My suspicions from my first test have been confirmed, the instructors didn't teach me anything I need to know for the test. I finally took lessons at Grand Prix auto school on the east side And I passed right away. If I had originally taken the lessons with that school, I would've passed on the first try or at least a second. It's a lot more expensive but it's so worth it. Acropolis cost me time, money, stress, and anger. Even after reading all the great reviews I would not recommend this to anyone read more

I'm 32 and did not want to wait any longer to properly learn how to drive. I'm so glad I found this driving school! I came to them at the beginning of July. I was very warmly welcomed by Ms. Iralda at the front desk. She took the time to explain the different package options to me. I signed up for the 15 class package (highly recommended if you are a new driver). I told her I was hoping to take my road test by the end of August before heading back to work. Ms. Iralda could not fit me in the schedule right away, but was able to get me started on July 31st and made sure I was able to get 15 lessons in before my road test. If ever the schedule had to be shifted, Ms. Iralda would call me in advance to let me know, but always made sure there was another time available for me. I was nervous at first, but the instructor, José, put me at ease right away! He was very reassuring and motivated me a lot! I had more classes with him, but I also experienced driving with Santiago. Both instructors gave me very helpful tips. I will not forget them! Especially since, thanks to them, I passed my driving test on the first try!! It's important to note that the person (Jane O.) who gave this school 3 stars is mistaken. There is no person named "Maria" working there. Ms.Iralda is always the one coordinating at the front desk. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone and everyone. My closest friend told me about this place and how comfortable she felt taking lessons here. Also business owned by a woman ! From the moment I walked into the Acropolis office I was driven to apply for my lessons. Ms. Iralda has a warm, happy, welcoming spirit that is heaven sent. Right away she helped think of a schedule that would be suitable for me. Ms.Iralda would send warm reminders of the lessons and would text earlier enough if it needed to be changed to a different time. She was so considerate in every way. In a small office Ms.Iralda always spoke in a confidential manner and no one could hear your business. After sitting in her office I was like wow there's no way this can get any better. When I met the knowledgeable instructors I learned so much, enjoyed learning to drive, if and when I made a mistake they were so patient and kind...I was able to drive and learn different times with ALL 3 instructors. Jose, Jose and Santiago never were mean but totally clear about what needs to be done. My turning skills were awful but by the second day Jose kept taking me to turn down blocks, making lefts and rights. I can drive, make turns and go around double parked vehicles after five lessons (I've had lessons many years ago, so if you have never driven you may need more) When I took the road test yesterday, their presence was in my mind and their words of how to manuever the car was heard. I was so nervous but handled each direction with great control and had the techniques, I never missed a step because I was so confident but nervous...I never doubted myself because Ms.Iralda gave me such encouraging words to just do what I learned and that its natural to be nervous but do it. Their prices are competitive and the whole ambiance is relaxed. The driving teachers Jose and Santiago are very nice and gentle. I would say though that you have an advantage if you speak Spanish.
