Extremely Disappointing Experience - Would Not Recommend We spent 15 hours with US One Driving School and unfortunately had a very poor experience. During lessons, the instructor Adrian was often on their phone and gave little to no feedback while my wife was driving. This made it hard for her to actually improve or know what to correct. We later had a different instructor, Bryce, who was great -- attentive, communicative, and professional -- which showed us how big the difference in quality can be between instructors here. As part of the $1200 package we purchased, the school promised a Simulated Road Test Lesson, but my wife never received it. When we raised these concerns and asked that the fees be adjusted given the missing portion of the package and lack of instruction quality, the office refused, simply saying that Adrian had "been teaching for two years." To me, this felt like a breach of contract -- we didn't receive the service that was advertised, and there was no accountability when we brought it up. I strongly do not recommend US One Driving School, especially for anyone looking for consistent instruction or reliable communication. There are better schools out there that actually value their students' time and investment. We would appreciate either: 1. A retest next week that we do not need to pay with a different instructor 2. TLDR: worth it! As someone who hasn't lived for a long time here in nyc, I settled on this driving school after looking through the reviews and everything. I'm glad I did because the whole process was efficient and stress-free. I got the road test package which included the 5-hr prelicensing course (MV-278), car rental, road test appointment and 1.5 hr simulated road test driving lesson for $275. I also got an additional 1 hr car lesson because I've never driven before in the US. My driving instructor for both the 1 hr lesson and the simulated road test driving lesson was Zoe. She was amazing because she made me feel comfortable by conversing and helped pinpoint how to fix mistakes I was making. She was very patient as well. Overall, very thankful for her help. Their customer service was also really good because they were easy to contact through both phone calls and email. They also sent out reminders about upcoming lessons/road test appointment. Edit- edvard refunded me for my missed lesson which I appreciate! I paid for 5 lessons, one of which included my road test. I had Ryon as my instructor, he was late and the school never made up for it. Ryon calls me 15 minutes before my final lesson before my road test, and tells me he can't make it. When I called the school to reschedule the lesson, the school wasn't apologetic. The two rude receptionists (who have been fired since), told me they would call me back and never did and promised me a refund and refused to call the manager, who later called me, apologized and offered me the refund. I did however pass my road test, and Ryon was nice while helping me. read more

I'm giving two stars because ultimately I feel it is much more damning than the typical knee- jerk one star review that any disgruntled customer can write. But, that being said, take heed. I am a driver with likely more licensed road miles than the instructor, but I hadn't driven in nearly 30 years. I wanted a quick refresher highway lesson for NYC. I had taken lessons at a competitor, which unfortunately I cannot name here. Please go ANYWHERE else but here . I wanted a highway lesson, as I said, and the competitor was fully booked so I foolishly thought this school might be able to deliver. The instructor could barely speak English. This wouldn't normally be a problem, as I have a command of 49 languages ( I'm actually not joking). But the instructor insisted on English. Let me repeat: I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE. I ONLY WANTED A REFRESHER. The instructor did many not only upsetting but downright dangerous things. To start off the lesson just right, he unnerved me. He did not observe or listen to me describing my familiarity with driving. Not only did he not instruct me to, but he actually DISCOURAGED me from adjusting the seat and the rear view and side mirrors. He pressured me to get going. When I turned the wheel before checking my blind spot before pulling out, he kept saying " there's a car there THERE'S A CAR THERE". Of course I checked my blind spot as I always do but he commented before I could even turn my head. And of course since I couldn't see from the unadjusted side mirror I had no forewarning of his anxious utterance. On the highway he kept saying " stay in your lane". I admit I needed a little help then, but he had no practical pointers except raising his voice and indicating his annoyance. The worst thing he did was instruct me to exit the west side highway with insufficient notice and raise his voice when I did not heed, forcing me to exit dangerously. He did not notice that after this I was shaking. Oblivious, incompetent, unskilled, maladroit, insensitive instructor with no didactic abilities. U.S. ZERO Driving School in my humble opinion. I am actually proud of myself that I did not quit driving in New York City after this lesson, because unfortunately I think many people would. I went back to the competitor, got the proper highway lesson, and can now not only drive but even teach circles around this instructor. If I ever want any more tips I'll head back to the competitor, not these hacks who could have cost me points on my license. Thumbs down. read more

My partner recommended this school based on a search, but had I come to Yelp I would NEVER have signed up for renting a car/lesson with this business. FIRST big red flag, look at the business owner's responses to any and ALL low reviews. Absolutely atrocious customer service and definitely not a "customer's always right" approach, but retaliatory, petty, vengeful saying things like "Nice try." What now?! Just seeing this, I would not have signed up. However, I ended up taking a chance (BIG MISTAKE) and trusted this business and it was HUGELY anxiety-inducing. When I first called the business I was met with an indifferent/incompetent receptionist who asks you for your credit card information and you pay first in advance, which might exacerbate the following poor quality of service. She says she will send me an e-mail receipt, but I fail to receive this after an hour and have to follow-up. I receive a confirmation with information in clown-size fontS (lots of different colors and sizes with really important information in small font) only after having to e-mail the business owner a reminder. I receive notice to meet the instructor at 9am. I confirm with the business owner as well. Cue 2 days before my test, unbeknownst to me the time has changed to 8am! I did not notice at this point, but the day before there is another e-mail confirming 8am and I ask the business owner to which I NEVER receive a response. NOTE: if you are 20 minutes late to the class you automatically forfeit almost $300 for the training WITHOUT ANY CHANCE OF REFUNDS. However, I am able to confirm with the driving instructor, yes we are suddenly now meeting at 8am!! Due to this, my anxiety peaks and I stay awake watching youtube videos of road tests because at this point I really do not trust the instruction or business. My instructor is much nicer comparatively and reassuring, but she did not have experience with the specific site and had to text the business owner about a road rule and during practice had some trouble finding good places to turn/knowing where the dead ends are/was a little slow about letting me know when and where to turn as a result. Had she been a little bit familiar about a specific stop on the road test as well, which apparently is a bit trickier and a lot of people fail at, I would have passed. She provides general advice instead and not to her failing but asked if I would be interested to take more lessons (assuming with the business), I had to say no. With that said, I would say generally she was very supportive, kind, and assisted in some of the essentials of parallel parking, etc. If I just had a lesson directly with her I would probably agree. I do think this ultimately is related to the tips provided by the business owner, and still the ultimate responsibility of the business owner. If I do get a nasty response for writing an honest, but negative review and it's anything less than apologetic or supportive, I will be writing the same exact review more times and letting even more people know about it-people deserve to know and I am NOT going to be tolerating ANY kinds of abuse from a business owner. However, based on what I see I am not so naive I do not already anticipate it in advance. Started taking lessons this month on August, during this ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and it has been an overall safe yet great learning experience. I got the 15 hours package (which includes the 5 hour pre-licensing driving course and road test rental car). For your information of my driving experience prior to these lessons: I drove around in a parking lot for 3 times with guidance from my sister. Result of these 15 hour lessons: I passed the road test, and most importantly, I feel pretty confident in driving (although I am still a noobie and need to continue to practice more). As of my experiences in these lessons, I had two instructors: Edvards and Nick (for most of my lessons) - both of them were excellent instructors, especially considering how little experience I have with driving. For my first lesson, I was taught the basics of the functions of the car, and I was told to drive around in the east side of the 12th street area - that was shocking for me because I didn't expect to start practicing driving so soon, but it's understandable that to learn, you have to go out of your comfort zone and take what you learn into practice. I also drove around the west side on 13th street, which is helpful in navigating and experiencing both one-way (west) and two-way roads (east side). With every lesson, I was told to drive with guidance from the instructors in terms of where to drive, what to look out for, tips for my road test, and practical driving tips to understand when I drive in the future. Like any student cars, the instructor has control of the brakes which is helpful in any case you make any mistakes or didn't see something from your blindspot. What made these lessons great was that the instructors were very attentive with what I needed to work on, new things to consider and to challenge myself with (mainly mirrors and blindspots and parallel parking for me) while encouraging me to build confidence in driving. Edvards is really great in making sure I drive safely - making sure I make my turns are at 5mph in NYC, giving tips on driving smoothly, signalling whenever I cross over a lane and turning, and noticing very minor details that really goes a long way once fixed - while also being very clear in explaining in certain driving components and giving tips to become a smoother driver. He also makes occasional humorous comments that makes the driving experience more fun and lighthearted. Nick is really great in encouraging me to build up my driving confidence with compliments and teaching technical components of driving that helps me to better understand why certain things are the way they are when driving. Both were friendly and great at teaching, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to pass my road test in my first shot in such a short amount of time! In terms of the 5 pre-licensing course, it was conducted over Zoom, and that was honestly an eh experience because for the 1st hour, there were no audio from the videos. Only afterwards were there any audio. However, considering it was the 2nd time they conducted this course over Zoom, I understand they were trying to still figure out how to best deliver this course. In terms of safety, I believe they wipe down the car before my lessons and have gloves available for you if you didn't bring your own (I normally brought my own, but it's nice to know they're available if I forget to bring mine). Of course, most importantly, both instructor and I wore a mask. Overall, I recommend this place for anyone who's trying to find a pretty decently priced driving school with effective, friendly, and great instructors and live around the area (not sure if you can drive in other locations, you can ask)! read more

I had a truly great experience learning to drive with this school. Lena and Kimmy are super nice and they were very accommodating regarding scheduling. In fact I was so pleased with them that I sent the school a Thank you card and a box of Cookies to show my appreciation to them. All the instructors are great here but my personal favorite was Steven. He's not only a super nice guy but he's great at relaxing you and he's also very intuitive at recognizing what you need individually which is key. He pays attention to your specific needs. I'm also grateful that he didn't run me over with the car for all the terrible jokes I shared with him to make myself feel less apprehensive about driving. Steven is a Fantastic driving instructor. Request him, you won't regret it. I tried some other schools and they don't come close to US One and the prices were great here too. Highly recommended! read more

I took the 5-hour class, after my licence expired--what can I say, I live in New York. Partially expecting a "Tim and Eric"-esque experience, I was pleasantly surprised. I could imagine that the teacher must be numb after doing the same class for months or years, but he--the owner--was present in a no-nonsense way, which makes sense for New York. He was really informative, occasionally funny, and focused mostly on tips for the test, all of which are good. read more

I found this school after checking different places on Yelp. There are so many options here in Manhattan but at the end, I decided to take this one because they have schedules for the Pre-licensing 5hr Test in the morning and afternoon so I just called them and made my appointment. I have read that other places that make appointments online sometimes don't have a teacher available that's why I liked that I have to call them to confirm, later they sent me a confirmation email too. The day of the course I arrived at 10 am o'clock and they just asked me for my permit. The class started on time and I was worried because 5 HOURS sounded like too much but my teacher, Noel, was very helpful and even though I'm an experienced driver I learned a lot about important rules for the road test and improving my driving. Plus, Noel had a lot of experience and tips. I would take my road test with Noel. I recommend this school 100%! read more

After we got to Staten Island the instructor (Andrew) showed me the road where the test would be. He also stopped in a gas station to fuel the vehicle and buy some hot dogs for his breakfast. After that we started with the lesson (1 hour) and I started driving and he was explaining to me basic things like how to turn, how to stop, etc. I also told him how I learned to drive, both in Portland for a few months and driving across the country with my husband. It was only a matter of time before he started to use the things I said to him earlier that morning against me. He responded with personal things like "If you drove from Oregon to New York it doesn't mean you know how to drive." "How did your husband teach you to drive if he doesn't know the recipe to parallel park?!" (He meant some specific "recipe" of his, which he used in all his NYC life in order to parallel park.) Also in many times he told me "You are going to fail the exam" "You're not good enough to pass." Everything he said just made me more nervous and unconformable. Also, he was talking all the time, and he didn't even allow me to digest what he was saying. The only moment when I could focus and breathe was when he was inside the gas station and I meditated for a couple of minutes to digest the mistakes I had made and how to change them next time. When we finished the hour and he saw that I had improved parallel parking (but was dying of nervousness), he said "You're going to be OK." But why did he say that after he had made me feel insecure about my knowledge and experiences, having judged me so strongly the entire hour? When we arrived to the line to take the driving test, he was showing me lots of pictures of himself when he was younger and talking to me about his life, seeming to flirt with me. We were waiting for the person to evaluate me... Andrew left the vehicle and gave him my documents to prepare him to give me the test... when I saw both of them coming back to the car I went out to introduce myself with the new instructor, I extended my hand to shake hands with him and to my surprise he was pissed at me and yelled at me, "I don't shake hands!" and my reaction was to say "I'm sorry." I was so nervous for the lesson and now I was confused about what had just happened, when we got to the car he said "Do you want them to fire me?" as if I was offering a bribe, and I just said again "I'm sorry," and he didn't say anything, just to turn on the car... I tried to leave all these bad experiences and feelings behind me in order to do my best in the test. From my perspective I did great driving, I got a couple of points "wrong" which I never understood why, like 10 points for "bad judgement" on traffic, when we didn't drive in a road with more than 3 cars, and I didn't get close to them nor do anything dangerous, and no one honked at me. Also when he left the car he didn't explain to me any of the mistakes or reasons for the lost points, he just gave me the receipt and left the car. I was mad, sad, and dissapointed with all of the experiences I had that day. To my surprise, it wasn't the end of this nightmare... When we were coming back to Manhattan, Andrew continued chatting on his phone while he was driving (illegal) and I almost told him several times, "The light is green...". He had several people honk at him to start driving after a red light. Every moment I was more dissapointed. I just wanted to come back home and forget the experience... But then my husband persuaded me to write everything and make a review so people can be aware of this place. read more

In response to the comment from the OWNER of the driving school: I stated clearly in my previous communications with your school, you would not have received any complaint from me if my daughter had failed the two driving tests with just minor mistakes and close to passing. I am not complaining because she did not pass her driving tests. My complaint is based on the experience she had with your driving school with two failed driving tests. She came to your school with zero driving experience, and I paid for these driving lessons for your school to teach her how to drive and prepare her to pass the driving test. Your instructors had repeatedly told her that she did not need more driving lessons and that she was ready to take the driving test after she completed 15 hours of driving. When she failed the first test, your instructor AGAIN told her that she did not need more lessons and just to schedule for the second test. I insisted and paid for additional 5 hours (for a total of 20 hours) of lessons before she took the second test so she could have more practice. Clearly these driving lessons with your instructors did not help her because she did just as poorly on her second test as the first one. What is more infuriating was after she failed the second driving test, your instructor simply told her to reschedule for the third test and insisted that she is ready. As you took the trouble and listed out very clearly of all the mistakes she made, including fatal ones, from her DMV score sheets, does it look like she was ready to pass (or even close to passing) DMV driving tests as your instructors kept on telling her? Your instructors may be nice people, but if they are experienced and good driving instructors as you so claimed, they should have better judgement on if a student is ready or not, and in her case, ALL THREE of your instructors failed in doing their job by telling her that she did not need more driving lessons and she was ready to take her driving tests. Your business is to provide a service to your customers, and in your case, is to provide QUALITY driving lessons to your students and prepare them to pass the DMV driving tests. I do not feel the services and feedback your instructors provided to my daughter were good quality as you claimed. They obviously did not teach and prepare her well as you pointed out on her score sheets marked by DMV examiners. And for that reason, your offer of more lessons at 50% discount with the other two instructors that she hasn't had lessons with at your school (you have a total of five instructors) was declined because I do not want to pay any more money or waste any more of my daughter's time with the poor services provided by your school. If she needs 50 hours of driving lessons as DMV recommends, I will happily pay for 50 hours, but in this case, it would not be with your school. My daughter WILL pass DMV driving test and get her driver's license eventually, but it's obvious that she cannot, and will not, be doing that with your school. As a service providing business, customer satisfaction is the most important as everyone knows, perhaps just not you. You are clearly a business owner that makes irresponsible claims and does not value your customers' experience with your school, as my review and other previous reviews have shown. I am obviously a dissatisfied paying customer with your service provided (or the lack of) and simply demanding a refund (never asked for FULL refund), which is well within my rights and hardly classified as extortion as you so claimed. I respect that you had other customers that are happy with what they paid for, and that is the reason I am being civilized and not using the word "scam" in public. I maintain my review on your business and trust potential customers can use their judgement on whether choosing your school will worth their hard-earned money and precious time, or not. read more

I never write Yelp reviews but this place is just amazing. I went from never haven driven a car to feeling comfortable driving in the middle of the city in just 15 lessons and passing my road test. The instructors are all amazing from Morris to Andrew to Josh to Skyler and the pick-up spots are SO convenient no matter where you live in the city (both east and west available). They're also really caring, the front desk called me after my road test to ask how it went and see if I passed. Definitely the driving school to go for in the city! Two reviews have been posted, one, 2/5 stars from my wife for her experience with the classroom course and her instruction. The second, mine, 3/5 stars for my experience dealing with a receptionist and the owner of the business. In short, my wife had a negative experience with the business US Driving One, and a VERY negative experience with their instructor Andrew, and the owner did give a $50 (of $300) refund for my wife's experience. Her review is posted adjacent, but if you read to the end, you will see that it is likely that the company attempt to remove both reviews from Yelp. (And sadly, it is possible that Yelp itself promotes the unethical removal of critical business reviews.) This review is a summary of MY interactions with US One Driving School and their manager/owner. During about 6-8 calls to both the receptionists and the owner, I was happy with the former. The receptionist was attentive, called back promptly, and helped us schedule things and talked about the minor refund as necessary. She and the overall refund earn the business 3/5 stars from my perspective. The same is not true for the male owner, Edward, who -- although using a minor amount of tact developed over the years -- sounded argumentative and continually attempted to pressure me into his perspectives and ideas. Moreover, he finally called me *several hours* after posting the initial review of mine on Yelp and Google+. I, like him, am a strong-willed male. But unlike him, I try to do the right thing: leave an honest review for a business, especially when it seems like important information for other potential customers to know about the business. The owner never swore or threatened me, but I could hear under his voice that not only did he want to, he might have been open to some sort of unethical additional refund granted to us in exchange for *not* leaving a review. Sad. Although the overall operation of US One seems legitimate, I suspect there exists a preference for profits over quality driving instruction, and a possibility of sketchy decisions and potential corruption under the surface. This is especially evident in the downright absurd response from the government test instructor when my wife offered to shake his hand before the test (see her review). Still, with how nervous and uncomfortable Andrew made her, plus the suspected bribery (WTF?) by her government driving instructor when she attempted to greet him with a handshake (again, WTF?), is it any wonder she failed out of nervousness? 3/4 sections marked "wrong" were relative to judgement...did she really have poor judgement that day, or was she doomed to fail with a poor US One Driving Instructor plus a prejudicial NYC Driving Instructor who failed her before she even began? We'll never know. If my original review was immediately taken down by Yelp because it was written by me on behalf of my wife, I bet the owner and his office team immediately try to remove critical or negative reviews each day, unethically improving their score on sites such as this, rather than actually doing the hard work of improving the quality of their business. I do not doubt he will do what he can to stimulate Yelp to remove our reviews and/or call me again to complain at me. For some drivers, this might be a reasonble business to purchase a driving instruction package from. But other drivers -- especially females and english-as-a-second-language students -- might consider looking elsewhere, especially to avoid the instructor Andrew. read more

I bought the 15 hour package (includes 5 hour prelicensing course, road test booking and car rental) from US one driving school (NYC location). I tried a few driving instructors before I found one I clicked with. Morris was a great instructor. Very patient. Made sure I was aware of all the watch-outs and things the examiner would be looking out for. He was also very encouraging and made me feel more confident about my driving. I had trouble with parallel parking with one technique so he showed me a different one, which was so much easier for me. Dare I say i've mastered parallel parking? The receptionists are friendly and helpful. I passed the road test on my first try. Highly recommend Morris as an instructor! He's great. read more

I've had my license since the day I turned 16 so I can't comment on driving lessons as I didn't need them. Moved to NY and OOS license expired. Had to start over w a permit. Got it and scheduled my 5hr pc here a few days later. Alonzo was the Instructor, did it over zoom and done in 3 hours from the comfort of my own bed. Picked up cert next day. Scheduled road test for a week later Hired someone w car for road test as school didn't have anything until late sept and I didn't want to wait and didn't want to pay $145 for their car rental. Passed road test. It all took about 2.5 weeks from the day I got my permit to 5 hour course to road test day. Road test was 12 min total Alonzo was great, chimed in when needed, was concise, direct and hit important points. They'll hate me for saying this, buuut, If you're an experienced driver, I don't recommend get driving lesson anywhere ( unless ofc you suck at driving...and tests aren't taken in Manhattan anyway). Get your 5 hour pre course and book the first available window for the road test; have a friend take you to your test, get there 2 hours in advance to learn the streets/signs so you're prepared, or just hire someone. In total I spent $180 to have my license. read more

I thought there was no hope for me with learning how to drive as I had previously failed my driving exam twice before. This time, I decided to stop going to cheap schools and to pay more for classes at a real school (you get what you pay for). I chose US One Driving because of the Google and Yelp reviews. This school had the best reviews of any in Manhattan and I can definitely see why. I passed my exam! Thanks to the help of the instructors who are really professional and thorough. Morris was great in being really calm and teaching the technical aspects of driving. He is great for beginners. As my exam date got closer, I was scheduled to take classes with Andrew. He was scary at first because he is brutally honest and louder than Morris but he knows what he is doing. I guess it takes a strong personality to get students through the experience of the terrible horrible driving test. I purchased a road test package and we drove around the test site before the exam which was extremely helpful. I would recommend that package to all students. I ended up passing the exam thanks to Andrew's help! Turns out, he is a Virgo (hardworking, meticulous, and goal oriented) which makes sense. Think Beyoncé. read more

I actually started driving with US One a long time ago. Long enough for my permit to have expired once and have taken lessons with Edvards himself! Overall, I think US One is a good school. The secretaries are really, really amazing and will always do their best to accommodate. I can attribute much of my good experience there to them. Booking classes, rearranging dates and schedules, making payments was always so easy thanks to them. Edvards hires good teachers and I have no complaints about any of them. When he was teaching classes himself, I really felt I was learning a ton. I don't know if Brandon or Josh are still working there but they were also great instructors who could observe and critically analyze your driving. If US One could standardize and structure their driving lessons more, I think they'd be a perfect school. I often received conflicting advice from different instructors, because there's obviously more than one way to park a car, but it made for confusing lessons as a brand-new driver. One big shortcoming is the quality of their cars. I understand that they are a driving school and they may not want to invest in good cars, but often the cars that I was driving had poor alignment. The cars themselves also lack power side-view mirrors. During a road test, both these elements just add additional stress. I had to lean over the examiner to adjust the mirrors and still could never get them quite right. How "off" the steering would be in the car was a guessing game. While an old car is okay to learn in, as a nervous tester, not being able to feel confident in the car was something I could not overlook. I actually failed my driving test twice while the instructors at US One told me themselves that they felt confident in my driving ability. So I took a 5-hour class, a road less and the test with US one. It all went well. I passed my test. The only issue I had was with the car and the person who brought me to the test. The car was the worst car I've ever driven. The tracking was clearly off, it leaned to one side and the brakes were terrible. If I didn't have 15+ years of driving experience I don't think I would have passed. The brakes were so bad that I had to push them so hard to get them to engage that the car ground to a halt, making it look like I was a terrible driver. On the way back the person who took me to the test was tired and asked if I would drive back. I didn't want to be rude as he was clearly exhausted. On the way back I took a wrong turn as I didn't know where I was going (He was fast asleep) and we then went over the Triborough bridge (which is a 15 dollar toll). He then starting complaining about how little he was paid and that he would have had to pay the toll for going the wrong way. He then asked me if we would split the toll. I agreed to split the toll because I felt so bad for him but it was extremely unprofessional of him to fall asleep in the first place. A bunch of my coworkers did their tests here and none of them had the experience I had. 08.21.2019 - Edit - I"m adding to my original comment in response to the owner's comment below. This is my real name, and this is my complaint. Sorry that it's out in public. I'm leaving this comment here as so many of my friends have asked me where I did my driving test, and I feel that it's only fair to share my experience with other people out there. A less experienced driver may not have known this. Yes, the car may have been roadworthy but it was still a shocking car for a driving school to have. I have had an overall fantastic experience with US one driving school. First of all, the people working the emails, phone, and booking are amazing! The girls are so nice, super patient, very dedicated, and extremely professional. My questions were always promptly answered, and I have a ton of questions! I first registered to take the 5-hour class. It was fine, you gotta do it. The gentleman who did the presentation was knowledgeable and to the point. I have a foreign driver's license, and I have been driving for a while before taking the "I live in NYC and don't need to ever drive again in my life" break. The school helped me book a refresher driving lesson with Andrew the evening prior to my scheduled road test. They also booked my road test appointment and help me secure my using of Andrew's car for the test. Andrew was great! He has a tough loving personality and won't sugar coat your skills level. He is an amazing human being with great stories and he is very knowledgeable when it comes to passing your road test. He truly cares about the success of his students and he was very thorough with me. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking to learn to drive from scratch. I came here because the reviews were high, but I think a lot of the instructors that were mentioned had left. The school now has instructors who have been teaching for less than 6 months. I learned more about driving techniques through watching YouTube videos and using my lessons to practice those. The cars are not ideal. I had to drive with a car that had a broken horn and another car with a broken right-side mirror. We had focused on parallel parking and the three-point-turn. However, what I needed help with was turning, which wasn't ever pointed out to me. The streets in Chelsea and East Village that they take you to don't mimic the road test conditions as you're mostly turning into narrow one-way streets with heavy traffic. Ideally, for the road test, you would work on wider streets with multiple lanes, as the test can include that since they're in the suburbs. Turning is something people usually think is intuitive, but if you're starting new, you may not know how much to turn the wheel, where to look, or what steering technique is best. Overall, this place may be helpful if you already have some experience with driving and can self-correct, but for someone who is starting completely new, it may not be the best option. *** Edit 10/01/2019 I do not appreciate the owner saying inaccurate information as a comment. I only took the road test twice - once with this driving school and the second time with another when I actually passed. I also drove more than 9 hours and know how to use mirrors. There was at least one lesson where the mirror wasn't working, even with using the L & R buttons. And the horn wasn't working for two of them. I was constructive with my feedback. There were even other details that I had left out because I do not want to jeopardize people's livelihoods, but will add them here in case it's helpful for people. This school had told me that one of their driving instructors was going on a long vacation, but that instructor was actually quitting and complained about being underpaid. Also, on his last day, that instructor asked me out on a date, and I felt VERY uncomfortable. Another instructor told me she learned how to drive through playing video games - this was not constructive feedback to correct what I needed to work on. The instructor that drove me to my test site was on his phone the whole time texting and driving, which also made me feel very unsafe. He also gave me a few lessons and was on his phone the whole time. I get that the owner cares about his business, and I don't ever want to damage someone's company, but I'm appalled by the fact that he commented with inaccurate information. To give him "credit," he did try to message me and called me right after I sent my first review (without this edit), but I didn't get back to him, because I don't owe an explanation for my honest opinion and would much rather be done with this school. THE WORST DRIVING SCHOOL I've ever encountered. Ryon which he states his real name is Yung but I won't even get into that. Ryon was my driver he is so unprofessional, he talks like a computer. He watches you do mistakes and tells you about it after the fact. I had a highway lesson with him and I entered on to the highway the wrong way due to construction I made sure there were no cars coming and I adjusted the speed. He tells me I was wrong to do that after I already did it and it completely through me off. He then proceeds to come down on me about all the mistakes I made in the past lessons which really through my focus off and made me feel uncomfortable. The receptionist YANA is the most UNPROFESSIONAL lady I've ever spoke to in my life. She's dismissive and puts you on hold until you hang up if you have a complaint. I called her several times two weeks before my lesson with Ryon to say I don't want him as an instructor and she told me a manager would call me back which never happened. I called two days prior and no one answered me. The day of my last lesson I was feeling ill and I didn't want to drive with Ryon she told me I should have cancelled 24 hours before and I told her I kept calling no one answered and the manager never called me about my concerns. She basically told me oh well you should have called before but I DID. I've never experienced anything like this in my LIFE!!!!! They're so callous and scandalous, they don't give a DAMN about their customers the best receptionist they had was a girl named Janelle and they fired her. I was ill previously before my lesson and called two hours before my lesson and Janelle accommodated me with no problem. All of a sudden today Yana claims it's IMPOSSIBLE to do. This was my last lesson with these ppl and being that Yana knew first hand how much I called and complained about Ryon she could have simply told her manager that I've been calling for weeks and I was told a manager would call me back and that never happened, so she should have made some accommodations for me but she REFUSED. I wouldn't suggest my WORST enemy to pay their hated earned money to a company that doesn't care about their customers concerns. Even when I told you about how nice and accommodating Janelle was changing my appt last month 2hrs before my lesson because I was sick you told me you fired her and it was none of my business. I was looking for a school in manhattan that could teach me driving from scratch, and assist me with all the formalities including the classes, pre-test classroom session, car hire for the test and the test itself. US One Driving School was perfect in every regard! From start to finish, all my queries were carefully answered, and Edvards was a fabulous instructor. He was punctual for all the classes (important to me), picked me up at a location of my choice almost every class, very very very patient (even though I made repetitive mistakes!) and gave useful feedback post each session. He has a technique that teaches you to be a good driver, know the rules, and also know when & how to use your discretion. As good as it gets! I loved my experience with US One Driving School. I connected really well with most of my instructors and I had a lot of fun driving around town with them. I had Rasmi, Skylar, Joshua, Anik, Hassan, and Brandon before he decided to only teach the 5-hr video course. They were all fabulous and amazing and I had a blast with each of them on the road. I felt really comfortable in the car with each of them because they each had their own vibe which made them really cool to work with. I only mention this because I think it's really important to have a good communication with your instructor. It really will make everything less awkward. My instructors knew my weaknesses and what I needed to work on and how to further improve my techniques. Considering I am a teenager, they were also really patient with me and never yelled at me (even when I took my hands off the wheel). They really made sure you knew that you were comfortable and safe while driving. They always have more than one solution to problems because they realize everyone is different. The office staff are always really sweet to me and I love their check-ups on me from time to time. It's so cute. The 5-hr class is grueling but whatever helps you get you your license, am I right? :) After a couple of driving packages and one sad, failed road test, I am happy to say I was finally granted the RIGHT to drive! 4 months ago I couldn't drive AT ALL and today I passed my test ON MY FIRST TRY!!! Seriously, don't even consider going anywhere else but here. Prices seem steep to what you can find in other boroughs but it is very much worth it. My favorite instructor was Joshua - he's the best! I'm a super anxious driver and he was comforting and made learning how to drive such a breeze. Plan in advance if you want him though, he's usually all booked if you try to book a lesson less than 2 weeks ahead. The service at the school is awesome too: Princess made booking lessons and my road test very easy and was super understanding when I had to reschedule. She would even call me to follow up! Overall, I would definitely recommend this school for anyone that like me, was an anxious driver and thinks they will never be able to learn. THANKS US ONE. read more

I just passed my road test on the first try thanks to US One!! I bought the 10h package and had Godsman, Taj, and Edvard as my instructors. They have slightly different approaches to teaching but every one of them was very calm, patient, encouraging, and insightful. As for the cars, I had no complaints. All the vehicles were in very good condition (Edvard drives a brand new Toyota). The scheduling process is well organized, you can simply call the office to schedule your first lesson or cancel/reschedule your subsequent classes. I would recommend booking all your lessons the day you purchase the couse package, otherwise you might end up with a couple of delightful Sunday 9am classes, as i did. Overall, this school is terrific. If you want to get your license fast and with the fewest pedestrian fatalities, you should definitely check it out. read more
