TLDR - if you're a nervous or anxious driver, or have had difficulties with other instructors in the past, Erika is absolutely the one you should get started with. My apologies for the novel that's about to follow: To start off with, I am (or was), an incredibly nervous driver. While I had gotten my license by the skin of my teeth back in 2018, I developed a severe phobia after a bad experience on a highway and let my license lapse, not realizing that if your license is expired for more than two years, you can't just renew it - you have to take the whole road test again. When I learned this, I became so nervous that I started having insomnia and couldn't fall asleep - that's how nervous I was thinking about getting back on the road again. After completing my permit, I worked up the courage to book a lesson with Erika. Now, I've had my fair share of bad driving instructors - they often are gruff, not that great at teaching or explaining, and not great at making you feel comfortable or relaxed. Erika is the exact opposite. She is warm and supportive, without being overly so - you never feel like you have to put on a show for Erika. The day of my first lesson I woke up with full body chills and nerves, but I immediately felt at ease with Erika when I was in the car during my first lesson and knew I made the right decision booking lesson with her. Slowly but surely with each lesson with Erika, I got more confident behind the wheel. She positively reinforces when you do something well, and explains patiently where you can improve. She also steadily increases your abilities over time, slowly taking on new things like driving in a different neighborhood or on a busy street, without rushing you into something that can feel difficult. Since parallel parking is my achilles heel, she made sure to spend extra time walking me through this during our lessons. Leading up to my road test I also decided to take a couple extra lessons with Gus, who only just recently became available again for lessons. Gus has a very different demeanor than Erika - more reserved - and so while he may not be the best person to take a first lesson with if you are extremely nervous and anxious like me, I did find my lessons with Gus to be helpful and so the combination of working with both of them made me feel doubly prepared. On the day of my road test, Erika had the perfect demeanor. She made me feel assured, but never put undue pressure on me - she struck the right balance of being supportive without having that become a stressor in and of itself. She answered all my last minute nervous questions ("Can you walk me through again what to do if I think I'm going to hit the curb while parallel parking? What if I'm too wide?"), without ever making me feel bad about it. I was blessed with a clear day and relatively empty roads, but regardless of the good conditions I know I can owe the credit of my passing mostly to the patience and guidance of Erika. She is truly life changing - she changed me from an incredibly nervous driver who would break down into a ball of nerves even thinking about being behind the wheel, to a confident driver who according to my evaluator, did a "perfect" parallel park - something that I would NEVER have thought in a million years I would hear anyone say. All told, I did 13 lessons before my road test - 9 with Erika and 4 with Gus. While it's possible a less nervous driver could have done less (by my 10th lesson everything really started to click), I'm glad I did those extra lessons to make me feel fully prepared. I highly recommend Revolution Driving School, and Erika in particular, to anyone who is nervous or anxious about driving. While of course what happens on road test day is your responsibility, you will feel so prepared working with them. I can never thank them enough for giving me my confidence back!!

I'm glad I did because the whole process was efficient and stress-free. I got the road test package which included the 5-hr prelicensing course (MV-278), car rental, road test appointment and 1.5 hr simulated road test driving lesson for $275. I also got an additional 1 hr car lesson because I've never driven before in the US. My driving instructor for both the 1 hr lesson and the simulated road test driving lesson was Zoe. She was amazing because she made me feel comfortable by conversing and helped pinpoint how to fix mistakes I was making. She was very patient as well. Overall, very thankful for her help. Their customer service was also really good because they were easy to contact through both phone calls and email. They also sent out reminders about upcoming lessons/road test appointment. I had Ryon as my instructor, he was late and the school never made up for it. Ryon calls me 15 minutes before my final lesson before my road test, and tells me he can't make it. When I called the school to reschedule the lesson, the school wasn't apologetic. The two rude receptionists (who have been fired since), told me they would call me back and never did and promised me a refund and refused to call the manager, who later called me, apologized and offered me the refund. I did however pass my road test, and Ryon was nice while helping me.

New York Auto school helped me maneuver through the 5 hour course and then the road test (I signed up for NY Auto School's companion and car service - which came with a 1 hr prep. before the test). On the day of the road test, I received reminder emails, texts and was promptly picked up at the agreed upon location for my 1 hr prep before the test. My prep was informative, structured, precise and ultimately helped me pass the road test on my first attempt. I could not have asked for a more efficient outcome.

I could not have asked for a better driving school to not only help me obtain my license but to help me to truly KNOW what it means to be a good driver. Right now, I am 32, and I last drove in a car when I was 16, but I never managed to get my license! This year, I decided I would become a licensed driver before the year was out, and Acropolis wanted to see me succeed in this endeavor. From trunk to horn, as it were, my experience at Acropolis was exactly what I hoped it would be. Firstly, the ladies at the front desk are so, so kind. I cannot say it more emphatically! Never will you meet nicer people who want better for you! Lissy, Estephany, and Iralda went out of their way to make me feel welcome, comfortable, and calm! And everyone knows that a good feeling is key to driving well in the car. It really felt like a family helping you to drive. And I so appreciated their enthusiasm and bolstering. They even went out of their way to make some specific arrangements for me in terms of car and lesson schedule when I went to take my road test! They did not have to do this, but it really helped me to feel confident about passing and so they went above and beyond to help accommodate me! And I cannot say thank you enough! Acropolis is also SO organized. It is amazing. They would text me the night before every single lesson and always made sure I knew what my schedule was. If I needed to move classes, they would always accommodate me, and the classes always began and ended exactly on time! When it came to being behind the wheel, Acropolis very smartly kept most of my lessons with one instructor, but sometimes changed the car and teacher to help simulate real driving environments. This method gives you a core guide to learn from in a solid way, but also gives you access to different driving perspectives and tests your abilities to be in a new car with a new person. Acropolis also always has both the goal of making you an excellent driver and the goal of you getting your license in mind. These may sound the same, but they actually require two different skill sets from instructor and student. And both are equally important to seeing you onto the road! Acropolis gave both to me! During my lessons, my two main instructors were Miguel and Marlene. And truly, I cannot say enough about either one of them! Miguel was my instructor for the first half of my lessons. And he was such a calm and solid presence in the car when I was so nervous at first. Crucially, he really wanted to focus on the overall experience of driving. The important outcome in our lessons was not passing one road test necessarily, but that I really knew how to drive. I appreciate so much the core fundamentals of driving that he instilled in me and how at ease he made me behind the wheel. Marlene was then my instructor for the second half of my lessons! Firstly, Marlene is so cool and funny. And she has a knack for breaking down the complex module of driving into easily understood pieces that can be executed. She explained maneuvers to me in a way that I could think about while not in the car and review by myself, which was exactly what I needed. Marlene understands how to slowly evolve a student and how to get them ready for whichever road test they are taking specifically, which is a tremendous kindness. I did receive a refund for my unused portions of the package I paid for. I enrolled as a complete beginner and made that very clear from the start. Instead of receiving patient instruction, I experienced an instructor (Michael) who became frustrated with beginner mistakes and raised his voice during lessons. It was also extremely fast paced for a 20 lesson full package deal. On my third day I was being taught a 3 point turn and parallel parking when I was not comfortable turning onto roads and being centered on roads. There were also communication and scheduling issues. On one occasion, I arrived for what I believed was my scheduled lesson, only to find out the time had been changed without any phone call, email, or text notification. Despite the instructor being available, I spent approximately 40 minutes sitting in the vehicle while he stopped at McDonald's and handled personal matters rather than conducting the lesson. During multiple lessons, the instructor took lengthy personal phone calls while I was in the car, including highly personal conversations that contained inappropriate language. As a student learning to drive for the first time, I expected my instructor's full attention and professionalism, not distractions and personal matters. What ultimately made me decide to leave was being told after only three lessons that my remaining lessons and road test had been canceled because I was allegedly "too nervous." I had attended every lesson, was eager to learn, and had only just begun driving. Although I was offered another instructor, by that point I had lost confidence in the school's professionalism and chose to seek instruction elsewhere. Additionally, while waiting for one of my lessons, I overheard another student discussing a negative experience he had with an instructor named Frank. Under normal circumstances I would not place much weight on another student's experience alone. However, after everything I had personally experienced, hearing another student express similar frustrations further reduced my confidence in the school as a whole. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this driving school.

Coray(?) took care of all the paperwork for seamless registration and helped me book my road test a week before the year ended because she knew it was my 2019 new years resolution. Violet, who helped me with scheduling, is so sweet and accommodating. TIP: save your last lesson for the day of your road test so you get some practice in and calm your nerves before the most excruciating 10 mins of your life. JK, obviously exaggerating. It was easy peasy because I had the best instructors, Monty and Ali. They were super encouraging, so helpful, professional, knowledgeable and just made me feel so at ease behind the wheel. Caio was very friendly and knowledgeable when it came on to the food and the drinks, he was also very entertaining and had great comedic timing. Camila was attentive, she came over to us and asked how everything was going and continued to check on us throughout the night. Even though it was super busy the staff remained friendly. The food was good, the portion sizes weren't big but were just right. The wings are not jumbo and the Truffle fries need to be tweaked, maybe change the recipe or call it fries with Parmesan cheese. As far as the drinks, the cocktail pouches were a hit. We had 2 each including two additional shots. This place is good for a happy hour, lunch, brunch, date, chill spot, etc. The views of the city were great, it's social media friendly with a lot of picture opportunities, they also have jumbo games such as Jenga, Connect Four and Cards. It's more of a drink and socialize place. Again we LOVED it, because it was a change of scenery for us. The downside is that there is no restroom within the restaurant. You have to walk outside the restaurant to the end of the dock to use the public restrooms which normally has a very long line. This isn't ideal. Overall great experience. We checked out to the tune of a 200+ bill. The alcoholic drinks were pricey rolling in at $86 before taxes for four drinks.
