I totally recommend this school!! Instructor Enrique was very helpful and taught me everything I needed to know. Aside from the fact that he teaches the 5 hour class in both Spanish and English, he is super helpful and makes sure you are practicing what you need to get better at. He makes sure you are learning up to the smallest things one needs to know while driving. I regret not signing up with Barrios sooner, but they do get very full very quickly. I wanted a spot last September and was told I may have to wait for two months. In a hurry I signed up with another 'school'. The 'instructor' wasted my time so much that by the time I came to barrios my 5 hour certificate had almost expired. Jeffrey is very very professional and respectful. Didn't once make me nervous more than I already was. Wouldn't brake unnecessarily like my previous instructor, wouldn't turn the steering wheel for me, doesn't use scare tactics. His techniques are awesome and I realized my previous teacher had taught me all wrong and useless stuff. He even let me take a road test since my certificate was expiring, so Jackie and Jeffrey just let me go for road test after a few lessons because even though I had little practice, they thought failing a road test would still be a learning experience for me. Best decision I made thus far, Just to give you a synopsis I have taken the driving test two times before and failed using another driving instructor name I will not disclosed. After failing twice I decided to give it one more shot with another person, that's is when I yelped Barrios Driving School and decided to give them a visit. I went in person and met with both owners Jeff and Jackie they were both very attentive, friendly and informative and best of all they were not pushy. I ended up buying the package with the 5 hour class, 5 driving lessons and road test, at a great price if I may add. I attended the 5 hour class first and to my surprise it was a packed house at first, I was worried that I would be uncomfortable and bored for 5 hours talking about safe driving. As the 5 hour class started Jeff was great he use humor and told stories and was very informative about all safely regulations and the "dos and don't of driving" and due to the large crowd the class participation made the class fly by without a hitch. Moving forward to taking my driving classes Jeff was super patient and he assessed what driving problems I was experiencing and quickly began working with me towards correcting my driving skills. When I made a mistake he corrected me and also used humor to minimize any tension which worked so well for me. After 5 driving classes I feel like I'm apart of Jeff's and Jackie's family they treated me like one of their own. Finally I took my driving test at Red Hook on 4/14/2017 and I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My overall experience at Barrios Driving School was beyond superb. I (stupidly) let my license expire for over a year, and had to go through the long, arduous process of getting a new one in a different state. I researched driving schools online for a couple of weeks, since I was rusty, and finally decided on Barrios, mainly because they are in Brooklyn, but ALSO because they are significantly less expensive than comparable schools. I opted for the 5, 45-min training classes, the 5-hour certification course, and the loaner car for the test, all for $285.00. Jeffrey is a dream--so patient and nice, and tosses in the occasional joke to help ease the tension of operating a 2,000 pound death-machine. He says he has a 90% pass rate with his students, and I believe him! Bonus points if you speak Spanish. I passed my test today! read more

I went to Barrios after I had trouble with my previous auto school, which was horrible. Jeffrey helped get rid of all my bad habits and taught me the right way. He's very good at explaining every step, very patient as well. I always felt very comfortable and confident with his as my teacher. I finally passed my road test yesterday, all thanks to him. I can't forget to mention Jackie for always being really sweet and fun to talk to. She helped make my appointments when I needed them most. When you visit Barrios you feel as if you're family because of her. I can't thank Jeffrey and Jackie enough for the great experience. Made my appointments about 1-2 months in advance because they had nothing available sooner. Called to confirm less than a week before and was told that my 8 scheduled classes were now 4 classes because they had to schedule other appointments. And the way they scheduled my classes is not how they do it, so they had to change it. No one called me to tell me. Very disappointed. Cancelled the rest of the 4 appointments that they were trying to give me. Then I got a call from the Manager trying to explain what happened which is none of my business because there was a communication failure within their company. And was told repeatedly, "I don't run the business this way..." Short version Me: but you did, so you do run your business this way. So I have no idea why you are calling me. If you wanted to apologize, fine, but I have nothing to do with it. Barrios: ok, I am sorry. Then she hung up on me. Will not be using them. read more

This is a great driving school. The instructor, Jeffrey, was informative, gave good explanations and tips on all of the skills of driving. With a great sense of humor and highly tuned to any difficulties you might have, he tailors lessons to focus on where you need to practice or work, and is always helpful and constructive. The five hour class here sped by with explanations for why the law is the way it is, and on the day of the test Jeffrey took my mind off nerves with jokes and riddles. I passed the test and I couldn't have asked for more from the package deal I bought, which was well worth the money. read more

New York drivers are terrible. Lousy motorists aren't an Apple-exclusive phenomenon, but we do have a kind of hasty, self-centered jerkiness that is a style unto itself. Barrios Auto knows all about that. A family business for decades, the school is currently headed by a brother-sister team who have the demeanor of people who have seen it all, but still take great interest in the success and education of their students. In the spring of 2012, I began learning to drive for the first time. Shortly after, I moved to Sunset Park, got my learner's permit, and went looking for a local spot to take lessons. I chose Barrios and began my first of what would be many lessons. The packages they offer were very helpful, but, as Jeffrey will advise himself, they are meant to be supplemental and provide guidance and feedback regarding properly executing maneouvers as well as developing good habits as a driver. Don't expect to pass your test on without diligent practice outside of Barrios (as I learned the hard way several times) The classes, both the required 5-hour course and the defensive driving course, go by pretty quickly. They're usually small, intimate sessions of no more than 10 students and Jeff's mix of no-nonsense instruction and dry humor keeps things friendly and interesting. On the road, he's much like he is in the classroom - laid back but stern. It's a good mix to have as a teacher, creating a relationship where you can't help but trust and respect the instructor, but don't have to fret about being scolded. He's neither a dictator not a pushover -the two extremes that usually spells doom for teacher-student interactions - and he's great at honing in on just what it is you need to work on. He even tries to lighten the tension at road tests with jokes and riddles. Overall, if you're looking for a truly quality driving school in the central and south Brooklyn area, you should definitely hit up Barrios Auto. read more

Barrios was pretty cool although he thought a bit too highly of himself for me. The course was longer than 5 hours since Lord commander Barrios basically forced people who don't speak English to finish their tests (written in English), while the rest of the class waited. He asked personal meaningless questions and wanted a response from the entire class. Since it was only a 40$ first come first served class, I guess you get what you paid for. read more

To be Fair other reviews already listed here are accurate, the instructor is indeed very friendly and cordial as well as very informative. Why the 1 star? I had a session scheduled with them for which I had to pay upfront. unfortunately I missed my session and missed the call they gave me about 2 hours prior to the session to remind me of the session. well it happens we are not perfect. so I called to reschedule and was told I would have to pay full price again to reschedule. Really? I get if they would say, we will charge you 5 bucks to book a new session because you missed the time slot, but full the cost of the session? in my opinion bad business practice since now they won't get any more money from as I rather go elsewhere and would not recommend anyone to go there. also if they are going to have a courtesy call which it is very much appreciated. the day before would be more useful than 2 hours prior. read more

Jeffrey is an amazing instructor, he taught me what I needed to know and I was able to pass within the first road test. He gives you tips on what you should work on, as long as you follow everything he says you should be perfectly fine. I originally came to this place and bought a 10 class package deal which would include my 5hr class and have them take me to take my test. On my 8th class they called me 45 mins before my re-schedule my class because the instructor would not make it. Which was fine. The lady said she would call me to re-schedule, I took my 9th and 10th class. More than 10 months later they have still not called me to reschedule, I have called several times to reschedule and they are too "booked." Seriously do not recommend this place, they feel completely irreplaceable since they are very known. Keep in mind, my father, sisters, aunts have taken their classes here. Thanks to Barrio's I had to go elsewhere to complete my courses and re-pay. Really do not recommend this unprofessional place. read more

After some light practicing with my parents, I decided to take lessons before the road test. The 10 lessons at Barrios were very helpful and informative, and the instructor Jeffery was extremely patient and willing to teach. Becoming a skilled and safe driver, using the correct maneuvers, getting comfortable and remaining focused all seemed easy with the teaching I got from Barrios Auto Driving School.
